Winters Geheimnis

Rate this book

Was verbirgt er?

Too connected

First a disclaimer: I really enjoy Mary Stone's writings but at this minute this series is starting to wear on me. Everything is so interconnected with the story before that there is no way someone could grasp on to the story and be able to follow unless they started from book 1. Plus at this point the mystery of the whereabouts of Justin Black needs to come to light. A series can only carry on so long and then your audience attention will drop off.

Good series

I really like the Winter Black series. By the 6th book, Ive noticed some things that are causing me to lose my patience. An author ending each book in a series with a cliffhanger has never been something I’ve enjoyed reading. When I’m reading a mystery, I like most plot lines to be resolved by the end of the book before moving on. The storyline with Winter’s brother needs has been carried through six books and it needs to have some type of conclusion because it’s growing tedious.

A few observations.....Yes, the readers are aware of Autumns profession. We know she’s a doctor, do we really need it mentioned four or five times every time she appears in the book? Initially I really liked her character; in this book I found her tiresome and boring. The parts of her personality that I liked before this book have faded into the author only focusing on the fact that she’s a doctor who wears band t-shirts. It’s annoying. The fact that her friends use her as their personal psychiatrist seems a bit unlikely as well. I hate seeing such an interesting, funny character turned into someone who gets on my nerves every time she shows up in the book.

The Winter/Noah romance storyline was also starting to grow tiresome. Without giving spoilers, I’ll just say that I’m glad to see the author has started moving them forward a bit.

One more thing....I realize and appreciate that FBI agents are human and just as infallible and everyone else but the author insults their intelligence a bit. Winter has weird episodes that at least three FBI agents she works with just shake their head and say “oh that’s just winter being her usual odd self”. It makes no sense. These people are trained to investigate and they don’t even ask questions when she starts bleeding from the nose and solving cases with no evidence?

As I said, I do enjoy this series. With any serial mystery, by the sixth book usually problems start appearing. I’m sure it’s difficult to write about the same characters continuously and keep the storylines fresh at the same time. As readers, we need to see that. What we don’t want to see are the same old tired storylines appearing in each book with no resolution. Drawing things out to add more suspense and mystery are fine, as long as the authors knows when the cut them off and give the readers resolution. I’m hoping book 7 does that because otherwise, I’m almost ready to give up on Winter and her friends.

It has been amazing to watch each of the characters of this outstanding series change and grow into the personalities they have become, in their interactions with each other, in their relationships and in how they handle their jobs. Each individual transformation has been the natural progression of a person as their experience in their personal and professional life has grown. You know, just like in real life. It has only added to each individual story line which has been driven by a common goal of the lead character. That goal has only partially been completed. It is all complicated by our heroine's special ability which has also been progressing along with the story lines which stems from a seminal moment in that character's tragic childhood. It is an unpredictable ability which adds to heighten the drama. None of the characters have had rosy childhoods, which cements and adds to their cohesiveness as a group. It all works beautifully.

These books are outstanding and I hope I do not have a long time to wait for the next one. Also, I hope the author does not drag out that final piece of the puzzle. Even a devoted reader to a series, like myself, loses patience. There is still plenty of a foundation which has been established here to continue with a terrific series. ;)

DISAPPOINTING

I had enjoyed the first five books in this series so having to struggle to finish this one was particularly disappointing. In the earlier books I found the plot development and resolution made up for the emotionally stunted main characters. They are dedicated and tough FBI agents who have the emotional personas of adolescents . In this sixth entry, the lack of a cohesive plot AND emotional responses that make no sense meant a boring read. Plus, the editing was not up to par with the earlier books. I actually found myself wondering if a ghost writer was in use on this one.

Winter's Secret is the next book in the Winter Black Series, and if possible each book is better than the last one. As Winter grows in her job and is better to control her emotions we see her relationship with the other members of her team also grow as she opens up more around them. This helps to improve the storyline also. I love her and Noah the chemistry between them. I look forward to the next book in the series.

This story in the lives of our FBI friends is very intriguing and somewhat shocking. This story gave us more insight into Agent Dalton and his family dynamics. It was an intense and well thought out storyline. I am loving the romance between agents.

This book in the series was much better than the last few!

We finally see Winter and Noah consummate their relationship, and I cheered for them so hard as if they were a real-life couple.

A police procedural with a twist, I will definitely be continuing onto the next novel!

In the continuing series of Winter Black, this book finds us reading about a kidnapping. That of Jonathan and Natalie, - and the father, Eric Dalton seeking out his son Noah Dalton, the FBI agent to help him. But Noah is still angry that his father left years ago to take up with his other family, casting Noah and his mother aside.

Of course we have Winter helping Noah and things get more involved because this all happened when Eric borrowed money from the Russian mob and the reason he has to go to Noah for help is also hinged on the fact that in order to settle his debt with the mob, he must find out where the FBI has the Russians they are holding in a safe house that are going to spill the beans on the mob.

This story was very intense and twisted and kept me turning the pages. Another great book by Mary Stone...on to book #7. #KindleUnlimited #fourstars

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
Received an ARC by Author Mary Stone. Winters Secrets is the 6th in the series. If you haven’t yet read the others, go do so now!!
The characters are phenomenal as is the storylines. They’ve grown and bonded so well together and have definitely become an amazing FBI TEAM!!
I cannot believe how much Author Mary Stone has put into this story. There’s so much going on and I absolutely loved everything about it. Finishing each chapter will leave you breathless with anticipation.

This Winters series just keeps getting better and better and I eagerly await each and every one of them.

A MUST READ SERIES!!!
You better get all your errands done before you pick up ANY Book in this series, as you’ll get NOTHING done. You won’t want to and cannot our these books down. From book 1, to this last installment, the characters grab you from the 1 paragraph. With each book the characters grow, and you’re introduced to new ones. The plot thickens and continues on with new cases to complicate the personal ones. I’d recommend this to Anyone and Everyone

Well. Noah and Winter have a crazy case on their hands this time when Noah's runaway father mysteriously calls in the middle of the night to tell his "son" he's in trouble. This is the man who ran out on a young Noah, his sister, and his mother years ago and never looked back. You know this isn't going to go well, and you'd be right.

But just how crazy it gets? That one's a bit harder to predict. The author has pulled out all the stops on this one. Noah's "dad" is a class-A jerk. Winter and Noah finally make legit moves after 5 books of this slow-burn business. I like a good slow burn, but this one was more like a flame that someone kept dousing, and frankly, it was getting kinda' old. For two confident FBI agents, they sure did act and think like high schoolers when hormones got involved.

Regardless, it's pretty well all boiling now, including Winter's temper because all of this chaos has moved her missing brother's case onto a back burner once again. Just another string for the kitty to get distracted by...

As always, the characters are well-honed, the pacing is terrific, and the story is intricate but easily followed. But Winter's Secret? It may really be getting out now.

Finally, Noah and Winter's relationship has progressed. Noah's biological father was a horrible person, but I never expected the fallout from his decisions to be so disastrous.

I'm glad that Winter's episodes seem to be more effective but less physically intense. I have to wonder as each episode provides more clarity will her explanations have to become more nuanced?

It really doesn't thrill me how there is the continuous plot regarding Justin that seems to go nowhere. I also don't really appreciate the technique of ending one book with the beginning of the next. But, I suppose it's no different than adding a blurb at the end of the book about the next book. It feels different somehow.

This episode was slightly boring. I found myself zoning out a few times. I ended up having to rewind and play things over. The narration was often difficult because I either couldn't tell who was speaking or about which person they were speaking.

I would not suggest a reader start with this book. At this stage, too many events have occurred that seem to be somewhat interconnected. I think there may be some confusion if a reader starts from this point.

Family secrets

Noah’s family takes the lead in this story and it is with a side of Russian mafia violence. An absentee father, a step family and lies are all mixed with trying to get Noah to help out. Noah, Winter and the FBI realize something is not right but they take the case and keep finding out more details that paint quite the criminal picture.

Along with solving this multi level crime, Noah and Winter finally make some decisions about their relationship and the backstory of Winter’s family takes a few new twists. Autumns character and role as a forensics psychiatrist is getting cooler and more developed with each story.

Loved this story and how all the pieces came together. Bobby has to know more then he thought from his conversations with Sun and now Bree is also questioning Winters hunches...it does have me curious to how this will play out!

WOW!

Meine Bewertung: 10/10 Punkte.

So good! Winter's Secret is more about Noah Dillion than about her. At least, I think so. His estranged dad, after twenty years, suddenly appears in his life saying he needs Noah's help. The Russian Mob has kidnapped Noah's step-daughter. Will they ever get his dad to tell them the real reason they have gone after his daughter? How many people will die before they get to the truth?

Stone has developed all Winter and the supporting cast of characters so well. I feel like I visit old friends when I read her books. The tension that she can write is unbelievable. I didn't really care for book 5, but book 6 is back to what I expect from Stone.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

Mary Stone never disappoints! Her story lines hook you, characters are believable.

I have enjoyed every series I have read by Mary Stone. The Winter Black FBI series has been a great read. As so many writers give you hope the next book in the series will not be repetitive, Mary Stone, actually does continue to introduce new story lines in her book s. Familiar characters, but as she continues a series new characters are introduced artfully while continuing to maintain your total b interest in the outcome. I recommend these books to any reader. If you read occasionally or if you are an avid reader, she will not disappoint.

FBI Agent Winter Black is being taunted by her brother who was kidnapped 13 years ago. How will Winter handle this? Does she go back to the person she was when she went after the serial killer, The Preacher? Or, will she continue to be a team player? This is made more difficult because her partner, Noah Dalton's biological father is in trouble and causing trouble. This book explores family. What is a biological parent and what to we owe them? I enjoyed this book but it was hard to see Noah's character struggle and continue to be hurt. The book moved a lightning speed. Another great entry.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been invested in a series. I have been waiting for it to reach the point where it’s played out and past its prime. So far, I’m not there just yet. I enjoyed this latest installment more than the last book.

One thing, I do have to remind myself it’s fiction. There are moments when I’ll think to myself, there is entirely too much drama and romantic entanglements to be happening in one FBI office… but it’s the same thing we see played out in TV dramas.

SPOILER: I was happy that there was finally some forward movement with Winter and Noah. I just hope it continues to move that way and develops the story rather than a Ross & Rachel back & forth dynamic.

Another Winter Black story - Cybercrime found the source of the email her brother sent her: Harrisonburg. Her friend, Autumn Trent, goes with Winter to her old home in Harrisburg. There she finds messages written in blood and four decapitated rats. She leaves the scene to the crime scene techs. She’s assigned to the case of Noah Dalton’s biological father, who is in debt to the Russian mob in Baltimore. They’ve kidnapped his daughter and son-in-law until Eric gets them information. He has one week to get the information from Noah, the son he abandoned over thirty years ago.
