Misandry: The hatred of MEN (Feminist collection of shorts): A collection of short fiction revolving around the hatred of men

Rate this book
Misandry is a nasty, no-holds-barred collection of short fiction revolving around the hatred of men. It involves everything from a serial killer using her womanhood to evade discovery and a woman trying to make herself disgusting after years of fetishization, to the impossibility of recovery after sexual assault and what it means to be a woman dating “one of the good guys.”---About the Louise MacGregor from Glasgow, Scotland, is an internationally published writer of fiction, pop culture criticism, and feminist social commentary. A graduate of journalism and history from the University of Stirling, MacGregor brings her passion for women-centric stories to fiction and non-fiction.While running the long-standing pop cultural blog, The Cutprice Guignol, and film criticism outlet No But Listen, MacGregor has written boundary-pushing, genre-defying works such as Ruthless and Trouble Clef under the pen name Kara Lowndes.

"We’re the ones who give birth to you. We’re the creators, and we always have been. What sort of conman wrote God as a bloke?"

Is it strange to say that I loved reading this book? Yes? Who gives a fuck. Louise MacGregor's writing is poetically poignant and I adored every aspect of how she wrote this piece (more accurately, selection of short stories).

Each story had its own metaphoric point it was trying to make which was masked in beautiful disgust. Throughout she makes worthy points on women's perception through the often corrupted lens of man's frightening gaze.

I am a male, and some readers could reach up their own arse and say this piece is "anti-men". Either way, I ask, why does it matter? If the observations are sound then is that not enough in itself? I personally believe humankind, on the whole, is a sad mutation of biology, but of course, the sexes have their own vices if we are really being honest with ourselves.

Men can be disgusting. Women can be disgusting. Maybe women are just better at hiding it than men, who knows. To those who enjoy short stories that question and attack oneself and the unspoken red-handed others - check this out immediately.

Despite the title, this sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes heartbreaking collection of stories should be mandatory reading for all men! Maybe they don't know why we find them so unpleasant. Anyway, stories like One of the Good Ones stay with you forever. It's a fun read, a thoughtful compilation of the things women don't like about men, and a very well written book by an author I hope we'll be seeing more of.

This book hates me, and I can see why

Furious, bitter, mournful and dripping with bleak sarcasm. Blasts out of the gate with ‘Disgusting’ and doesn’t often stop for breath.

Thee Best thing I have ever read. Described how I feel, as a woman in a mans world. The hatred, anger, resentment, internalised misogyny etc. Perfect portrayal of misandry - from a woman’s perspective. Definitely one of my favourite books, if not my favourite. Louise MacGregor is incredible. It’s just a shame that I cannot get a physical version of this masterpiece.
