I own 4 different editions of The Betty Crocker Cookbook. One from 1954. One from 1983. One from 1996 and now this edition. This is a stunningly good update.
They did a total tear down and rebuilt it from the ground up with lots of reimaginings of old recipes, inspired new recipes and lots of tips for beginning cooks. Everything from how to measure ingredients, cooking techniques, equipment lists, and ingredient substitutions. They also expanded the number of recipes that you can make in 30 - 45 minutes.
The expansion of vegan and vegetarian options and how to convert non-vegan options to vegan were wonderful. I have tried several of the recipes and they are clearly laid out and the instructions were easy to follow with beautiful photos, graphs and illustrations to aid you. Oh yeah, and they were delicious too.
I can't say enough nice things about this cookbook!
This is a great updated version of the Betty Crocker Cookbook. All the best recipes are in it along with more modern updates such as making kombucha and recipe remakes that are smarter and healthier. This would be a great gift for a new household or a cookbook collector wanting to update their version. All nutritional information is included for those who like to chart their macros.
This is more than just recipes. It has cooking charts, how tos, kitchen organization, definitions, tips and tricks and interesting trivia you might say. Some of the information is very basic in it, where you are kind like duh, but there is also interesting facts and some handy tips as well. In terms of the recipes, it looks like there is a combination of the classic and more modern, however, it tends towards the more modern health inspired recipes than the hardy classics, which is a little bit of a bummer. There is nothing wrong with healthy recipes, just Betty Crocker is the home recipes you grow up with and you hate to see them change. While there are from scratch recipes, there are also a lot of cheat recipes where you use premade products. I haven't had a chance to test any recipes yet, but it still looks like there are a lot good ones, especially in the dessert section, you can't really mess with those. While it is still Betty Crocker, it is a more updated, healthier version of her, which like I said isn't bad, but is a little disappointing for us classic lovers. Overall, it is still a very handy kitchen aid to have.
I received a copy of this Betty Crocker cookbook via giveaway and it’s been my favorite win EVER!!! There are so many varieties of recipes and the layout is like a magazine spread: detailed instructions, easy to read lay outs, and mouthwatering photos. I also love the handy charts and even the pictures of different ingredients/meat cuts/spices, equipment, etc. dispersed throughout the chapters. I’m so excited to add this to my meal rotation. Thank you Harper Collins!
outstanding!! I actually read this cookbook. Pictures (which help), detailed directions, glossaries of cooking terms, tips, on & on. I love this cookbook. Likely it will become by go-to and some others will be pushed to the side. I have already picked out several new recipes to try and feel confident since there a lot of tips & hints that will help me.
This cookbook has everything the modern cook wants and needs. Perfect for the new cook as well as the seasoned cook, it includes how to measure ingredients, cooking techniques, equipment lists, and ingredient substitutions. With lots of color photos, clear directions, a great layout, with both from-scratch and almost-homemade cheat recipes, it's a great resource.
I am so excited to have the holy grail of cookbooks. I remember using the Betty Crocker cookbook back in junior high school in home economics. This cookbook is a treasure and I'm excited about the gluten free section. My husband has celiac disease and it will come in handy. Feeling blessed.
Fun to have the latest version of Betty Crocker. I have the first addition that was my mother's from when she got married and the new 80's version from when I got married. I do wish the latest version was also in binder form.
I'm so glad I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway! Love this cookbook - tons of helpful info on ingredients, cooking processes and great recipes. My new Go-To -First cooking book. Lots of recipe pictures too. I plan to buy one for my sister too - she will love it.
Love! Everyone needs one of these on their home. It's big with lots of info in it. Great that it has an attached bookmark and easy to identify page tabs.
I think this has to be the best Betty Crocker cookbook yet! Over the years, I have collected many of these cookbooks and I know this one has the most useful information to be used by anyone of any age. There are basic tips for your kitchen, grocery shopping ideas, and explanations of ingredients used in their recipes. As I have vegetarian family members, it's nice to see recipes all in one cookbook rather than trying to look in several books and not find something for everyone. Also, I love that there are different sections for all the recipes to make it easier to find and to take less time doing so.
Thanks to Goodreads, HarperCollins Publishing, & William Morrow for sending me a copy in exchange for my honest opinion/review!
The only cookbook you will ever need. This edition has hundreds of recipes with full color pictures. Gives you tips, tricks, and ideas useful for any type of cook. A must have for any kitchen.
