I think maybe I just don't care for books for the very young. I read 6 books this morning, five for the youngest readers. Five duds. I may not be the best judge of toddler and preschool books.
This book made me want to smack somebody. And yet, I can see very young readers getting a kick out of it.
This third installment of the Bobo and Pup-Pup series is all about book love. Pup-Pup is reading a funny book that he loves. His mistake is telling Bobo that he will love it. Bobo has a terrible time waiting. Pup-Pup tries to avoid Bobo’s constant pleas to give him the book. Over six short chapters, Pup-Pup gets more and more annoyed. The friends finally fight, and the book tears in half, and they each have half of a funny book. The problem is solved by going to a bookstore to buy TWO copies of the book. They both agree that “Reading the same book at the same time with a friend is so much fun!”
Very simple text tells the story in speech bubbles, mostly panel-less, making the book great for the newest readers just learning to navigate independent reading. The animals are totally cute, and the bright colors and uncluttered page design are appealing.
I would have preferred to see the friends check out two copies of the funny book from the library, but that’s just a librarian talking.
