His Affliction: A Desecrated Conclusion

Rate this book
I heard he was crazy, that his feelings were all dead.

I heard the bad things he did was because of the monster in his head.

He likes to deal out pain, reveling in his victims' screams.

He likes breaking hearts, ripping them apart at the seams.

Everything became better, because he went away.

But none of that mattered, since a part of him stayed.

Now he’s back, looking for what he left behind.

They all whisper the same things, about his affliction of the mind.

People say he’s broken, this man Brody Landry.

But I think he’s beautiful, a perfect Prince for me

The wait for Brody’s book was well worth the wait. I am far from disappointed. I have to admit I wasn’t a fan of him. But by the end, I have a different outlook and a newfound love for him.

Is this book the next level from Desecrated Duet? Yes, Yes it is.

Is it twisted with a rollercoaster of emotions? Yes

Is there also a taboo factor? Why yes, there is, and I loved it.

Is this book full of spice and not so nice 🥵 (it is excellent. There is some nice. )

Did I read this book in one sitting? Yes

Read your trigger warning. This book is not for everyone, and that is okay

Brody has been away for 26 years and assumed missing from his friends. He comes back, and to say they are shocked is an understatement. But all is not what it seems. You have a stalker and Brody’s secrets.

The boys and Kailey are back. With their children in tow. But make no mistake, this is not their story. Here is what I love about this book. First, it’s everything and more that I wanted. Second, I didn’t see not one thing coming my way. I love when I can’t figure out what will happen. And that ending is everything. I will miss them. I do see a reread in my future.

26 years later….

I loved reading these characters dark and disturbing stories. I don’t think I have ever been where they took me. How will it end? Nothing can stop me from finding out. My guess, they can’t all die…can they? Someone has to be left standing…don’t they?

I couldn’t put it down.

The explosive conclusion blew me away…

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of His Affliction: A Desecrated Conclusion by C A Rene.

And so I welcome Brody back, but he isn't the Brody from years ago, from his group of best friends and former unbidden interest. He's matured like a fine bourbon, charming if a little sardonic, and fully cognizant and commanding of his demons. With a sexy swagger, Brody returns to claim his business position and to be a part of the son's life he denied himself. But someone watches, someone lethal? Maybe. Forbidden, most definitely.

Character development was amazing. Reading was living in their minds and experiencing their feelings, turmoil, and triumph. This story moved at a medium-burn, immersive pace and was told from multiple points of view. Besides the protagonists, side character from the original duet were featured and very much integral to the storyline.

A gritty psychologically thriller with intrigue, some spice, and overwhelming, palpable attraction and trepidation, I was genuinely held captive the entire time. The toxicity, the angst, the taboo, two unexpected but well-matched characters amid a twisted entanglement. This was a hugely compelling, magnetic age-gap affair in which I was at times allured and others disquieted, a mix of polar feelings.

Afterwards, I was left bereft, emotionally spent from this couple's untamable twisted energy. I can't say I always liked them. Instead I respected them, envied their dynamic, their honesty and comfort in who they were. A mature, heart-rending, angst-filled read. Brody has met his match and all others are left in their wake.

Okay wow I was not expecting this. CA Rene left me completely speechless!

If you read Desecrated Duet, which is highly recommended to read first, then you know this is Brody’s story.
I feel like I waited forever for this book but it was so worth it. I’ve never read anything like this!

Being inside Brody’s head was dark and twisted but even he wasn’t prepared to meet his match.
This was a stalker story, full of mystery and intrigue with complex characters dealing with mental health issues. Their relationship was wild with so many unexpected twists. And that ending, definitely did not see that coming!
Please be mindful of triggers.

”Obsession. Pure and volatile”

This book is on an entirely different level than the Desecrated duet. This psychological thriller/stalker romance is a whirlwind of emotions.

The taboo relationship was crazy and unexpected. The ending, even more so!!
*******
It’s been 26 years since Brody has been back. He’s back for his son and his company. Little does he know, theirs a stalker hunting him. Learning his every move. When force brings them to face each other, could he have finally met his match?

Cooper, Caine, Zeke and Kailey are also back. Together with kids, they are currently living in mourning. Brody coming back at this time is also bringing a false sense of filling a void Kailey is trying hard to understand.

Make no mistake. This is not about Kailey. This is 100% Brody’s story. We dive into Brody’s dissociative identity disorder and meet more of Monster and his other companions. They hold more power than we ever realized. Can his stalker tame the beasts?
*******

So I personally was not into this particular taboo relationship type, HOWEVER this book held me captive and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. It was twisted and crazy and I NEEDED to know what happened next.

If you’ve read the Desecrated Duet, this book is a must read! When the ending came, I wanted so much more!

*Overall 4/5
*Heat? 4/5
*Fast/Med Burn
*First person POV (mostly)
*Taboo 5/5
*Triggers? Rape (but no where near like book 2)
*Dark 2/5
*HEA? I’m unsure lol but I want more

If you read the Desecrated Duet, then you know where this is going. Brody Landry has been dead for the past 26 years to everyone but one person. When he receives an email calling him home, his peace and quiet will be threatened. Everything he has worked to heal and learn to live with is being compromised, and boundaries will be steamrolled. Finally, revealing his secret to his son and family, he's about to meet his match made in Hell.

𝑆ℎ𝑒'𝑠 𝑡𝑒𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑑𝑔𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑎𝑑𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, 𝑓𝑙𝑖𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑑𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑡 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑎𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑡𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑑 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑜𝑤𝑛.

Brody Landry is finally home after 26 long years. Every action, manipulation, and secret acted upon has been for this very moment. Her plan is finally in motion, and 𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 will stop her from making him hers, including family, medications, or illnesses. It won't be easy, complicated at best, but once she reveals her secrets, he will see they're one in the same and what she's known all along. Her soul was created for his.

What a stunning conclusion to The Desecrated Duet . C.A Renee never disappoints to deliver a story that is Dark , gritty , twisted , suspenseful and utterly addicting. His affliction is a Reverse Harem / Stalker romance , it’s a psychological thriller and trust me when I say once you start you will find it impossible to stop . It’s gritty and twisty and the perfect amount of darkness . The character development is absolutely amazing . It’s not often I come across a book that has the ability to make me feel as many different emotions as this duet has done . If I’m being completely honest their were so many moments I literally found myself speechless. His Affliction wrecked me in the best way possible, it’s a true masterpiece.

Phew! Now that was an intense read! Filled with the twists I had anticipated from Brody's story, what I hadn't expected was that those twists would be ratcheted up to even higher levels by his stalker. Madness and obsession go hand in hand to bring us a book filled to the brim with interest and intrigue. Brody's reappearance after 26 years, acts as a catalyst for this fascinating read, bringing up the past, the complex relationships and characters, all seen through the different lenses of it her, and the man characters. Clever use of those differing voices adds to the simmering passions which inform this book. It's dark, but fascinating! What a conclusion! 💖💖💖💖💖

I LOVED the desecrated duet, so I was so excited when it was announced that Brody was getting a book! This isn't the usual love story, nothing C.A. Rene writes ever is. It's dark, unforgiving, and PERFECT. Brody was never going to be a knight in shining armour, and he finally met his psychotic match. It was the perfect ending for the twisted couple.

I am at a loss for words with this book! I’m still in shock about everything that happened. I am happy with that ending because it’s not perfect which is more true to who Brody is. This book is twisted and has some twists that will leave you reeling!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

I hear he was crazy, that his feelings were all dead. I heard the bad things he did was because of the monster in his head. He likes to deal out pain, reveling in his victims' screams. He like breaking hearts, ripping them apart at the seams. Everything became better, because he went away. But none of that mattered, since a part of him stayed. But I think he's beautiful, a perfect Prince for me.

Buckle up people. This is one crazy ride to say the least. This is a dark book and you need to heed the warnings in the beginning of the book. It is twisted and will have you going through so many emotions. I don't even know where to start to review this book for fear of giving something away.
Brody has been gone for twenty six years. All his friends think that he has been missing. That's the only reason that could be for Brody being gone. But now he is back for his company and his son!! What the man does not know is that he has al.so brought his stalker back with him. A stalker that is learning his every . As fate would have it though they will soon be face to face and it just might end up that both of them have met their matches!! Oh Brody.....goodness you put me through the wringer with your story. How we got to dive into your dissociative identity disorder. Then there is Monster and some of his companions who really hold more power than I ever expected them too. But is is stalker the match he has been waiting on and never even knew he needed??
I know that my review makes no sense and sounds more like a jumbled up mess. I wanted it to be that way and I just couldn't say nothing about the book But I did not want to give anything away. This is so a book worthy of reading and I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did!!

O.M.G….Brody and Summer are intense and very dark. Both have issues that cause them to have similarities and keeps them on their toes in a way. Loved the ending!! C.A. Rene (author) did a fantastic job with Brody and bringing out his multiple identities. With Summer, agains C.A. did a wonderful job. Summer is unpredictable, intense, and has sooo many issues. I don’t think Oliver did her any favors by training her from a young age as it contributed to the challenges she has. I enjoyed Brody’s, Madge’s, and Monster’s (even with his limited communication) interactions. The one thing I wish was addressed though is how Monster has handled being married to Summer and did he ever stop loving Kailey and have develop at least some affection for Summer being that she was Kailey’s daughter. If you have read Desecrated Flesh and Desecrated Essence then you will know a bit of Brody’s story from his teenage years. I have to say I kind of like Kaile’s revenge (sorry that was a little off track but I had to say it😂). I was sorry that Oliver died before Brody came back. Ok, I will stop right there with info from the book before I say something that spoils the book for future readers. Just know that I highly recommend you read Desecrated Flesh and Desecrated Essence before reading His Affliction. I do highly recommend His Affliction, Desecrated duet, and C.A. Rene as an author. I really hope that C.A. will want to do a second generation series much like she did with The Whitsborough Chronicle series. Just want to throw this in there too that C.A. Rene has become one of my favorite authors and I fell in love with her books when I read Desecrated Flesh and Desecrated Essence as they were the first books I read from C.A. Rene. I just love C.A.’s writing style. She writes dark romances that capture and hold your attention from start to finish. I hate being interrupted when I read any of her books and I know that I will want to read it from start to finish without having to put it down. I try not to read any of her books at night unless I know I can finish it or I can stay up all night (no work or appointments in the morning). Happy reading!!

DAMN!! That was dark, twisted and utterly delicious! We are once again thrown down a dark and gloomy rabbit hole of depravity, violence, anger and destruction – and I bloody loved every second of it.

Brody is completely unhinged and I loved that about him. He and his monster kept me on my toes not knowing what the hell would come out of his mouth or what the hell he would do next. I loved his darkness, his depravity and his crazy. He comes back to us older, sexier and darker. The time away has given him a chance to accept his demons and control them.

OMG! Brody’s ultimate return to the limelight was thrilling, exciting and had me riveted to my seat. His intensity and sexual aura had me curling my toes, clutching my kindle and gasping at every insanely sexual encounter he has. I could just eat him up! His crazy calls to my little black heart. Brody has a stalker and she is going to do everything and anything to make him hers no matter the consequences. Every step of the way these two battle their demons to become something more and it was utterly titillating to read.

Another brilliantly written story by this phenomenal author (who is becoming one of my most favorite authors ever). It’s a gritty psychological thriller/stalker romance that is filled with raw emotions, mental illness, unhinged and damaged characters, and a delicious taboo relationship that will leave you breathless and begging for more. This was one hell of a riveting story that sinks its claws into you and won’t let you go – it compels you turn the pages quickly, needing to know what was going to happen next! Even when I read the last line I wanted more!

Do you know what happens when you put two mentally unhinged people together? You get 2 broken and damaged people who try their best at love. They love each other in their own way.

Please make note that this is the stunning conclusion to the Desecrated duet. So I absolutely urge you to read that first to get the back story. But if you have read it, get strapped in for one epic story. Keep in mind, this is not Kailey’s story. This is Brody’s. Brody is back, determined to get to know his son and take back his company. A company that was seeming run into the ground. In this, he will meet with Summer, Kailey’s daughter. This is very much a taboo and forbidden age gap romance. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a look at dealing with someone with mental health issues. Summer is manic. Brody has DID. His alters come and go throughout the book so be prepared to be introduced to them when they front themselves. It’s a book about chance, and obsession, and loving someone even though it might not be deserved. It’s a book about finding love through the brokenness, seeing someone past their afflictions and taking the bull by the horns, so to speak, and grabbing what you want. Even if it is by any means necessary.

Aside from all of that there’s mystery and intrigue and a nice dark twist that’s typical CA Rene fashion. I’m absolutely gutted and when I hit the end, I screamed!

I’m sorry what?

I’m speechless. Oh my gosh! I knew this book was going to be out of this world but I didn’t expect this. I’m shook.

Where do I even begin?

Twisted, dark, out of this world, this book has it all for anyone who loved a taste of the darkness. I didn’t see this book going where it did to be honest and I wasn’t sure how I felt about Summer and Brody and if I’m honest I’m still not sure. I mean, they compliment each other in the most twisted way of course but I don’t know apart of me is for it but the other is rebelling. Other wise I loved the book. I enjoyed getting to see the other characters and I’m so sad we didn’t get to see one I was shook when that was thrown in, like what?!

Amazing plot. This was the perfect way to end this series. It was interesting diving more into brody and how he described his relationship with Kailey. It was fascinating seeing his interactions also. Great plot. Set out with mystery, shrouded in twisted intent and so much more. Absolutely loved it. Loved being back in the world of the desecrated duet I hope we get more in the future, I’m not ready to let go of these characters.

I’ve never hidden my love for Brody.

Could that be my trauma coming to head? Maybe. I couldn’t help but love his psychotic self.

I really wasn’t sure how I would feel about this book. It’s something I’ve told Chrissy a few times.

Brody.
Mal.
Monster.
Madge.

I will always be partial to Monster.

The twists and turns in this book, some you see coming; some you don’t. I’m really not sure how to put into words my thoughts about this book. I liked it more than I thought I would. There were some aspects that make me want to cross into Canada and kidnap Chrissy for answers. She dove deep for this book. The research and hard work she put into this, may just be more than some of her other works. To really bring all of the strings together like she did, it was NOT an easy thing to do. You’re going to need to go into this with eyes open.

I really hope we get to see what happens between Summer & Brody after the epilogue. I’m curious about the meeting. Could there be an alter we haven’t met?

Don’t pick this up without reading the Desecrated Duet first. Check the triggers.

Finding out that hearts can cry...

That's what this whole series has felt like. In the best of ways. The Desecrated Duet was a resounding HECK YEAH for me and it packed a punch. Book two absolutely WRECKED me and if I'm being totally honest, it made it hard to start Affliction. I loved Brody, he was that tormented kind of beast that was just impossible to hate no matter what he did. He was awful and cruel and I couldn't get enough of him. I had hoped for so much for him, I wanted him to get his redemption and the love that he deserved from the beginning.

This book takes place years beyond the duet and that alone was an emotional thing, nothing hits like losing time. I wasn't ready for that, nor was I ready for the taboo element of the age gap...it was, wild. Age gap has never been my favorite, I actually tend to avoid it, but this was so much more. I got to the end and was just flabbergasted because I didn't know how to feel, or what to even say about the book. I don't know if anyone else cried or if I was just in some kind of funk but the most random events in this book just knocked my breath to the floor and I had to remind myself it's fiction.

This series, in my opinion, is probably the heaviest of C.A. Rene's so far. Some may not agree but it's the one that really had the biggest impact on me and has really stuck. Her writing is always phenomenal but the way these gut and heal me, it's just euphoric in the strangest way. I'm astounded. Did I get everything I wanted from this? Emphatically.

Will you? Did Brody get his happily? Did anyone? That's gonna be on you to find out. And you're going to love every second of it.

His Affliction: A Desecrated Conclusion by C.A. Rene is a dark forbidden romance.

I would highly recommend reading Desecrated Duet Series first since the stories are interconnected. However, this story is set 26 years after the duet ended.

I was so excited when she announced Brody was finally get his story. The story was definitely not what I was expecting. I devoured the Desecrated duet in two days, but I just couldn't get pulled into this storyline. I just couldn't get behind Brody and Summer being together. I also felt like the book ended leaving me with more questions.

I will say I liked that we got into Brody's head in this book to understand him a bit more. However, I didn't like how my image of Oliver and Kailey were changed in this book.

Overall, the book was written well and really got into the minds of two characters with mental illness.

If you are a fan of her books, I would recommend reading it. The book just wasn't for me but doesn't mean it isn't right for you.

And so we return to the Desecrated world , but ,this time, it's just a little bit different.

To everyone in the world of Ballon Corp, Brody Landry has been dead for quite some time now.  ... or so we thought  .   I welcome Brody back to the land of the living , the broken boy we knew now a grown an matured man , still broken , but with much more control,  until  he finally meets his match .

Summer daughter to Kails and Oliver , handed with mental health problems as well , comes face to face with the man she thought was only a myth . When they clash. They make the most gorgeous flames .

I waited until last minute  to read this story because honestly I was scared to get the rest of his story .. because Brody will always be babe to me . As always chrissy did not disappoint and I'm here for it !

His Affliction by @c.a.rene ARC review

Wow I absolutely loved this book! His Affliction is DARK talks about things that can be sensitive for some readers.

This book takes place for 26 years in which everyone thought Brody was dead. He in turn gets threatened to go back home or his secret about being alive will be told.

Summer has her sights sent on him and she will not stop until she gets him and the answers she is looking for.

This book has so much in it and I can't get enough of it! It has the spice, the darkness, talk of mental health, and even etc.

What happens when Summer finally gets her hands on Brody? Will she get the answers she wants and be done? Or will she get her answers and give in to her list and obsession she has!?

C.A. Rene wrote His Affliction with Brody's side of the story 26 years later after his friends all thought the worst happened to him. He has come back to take what is his but he doesn't know that someone came following him as well.

Kailey and her men are back, much older and with families of their own but this story is not about them and is all about Brody.

To say this book maybe darker that the first 2, more secrets, more revealing and more intense is a understatement.

This book has ⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS!!⚠️

His Affliction dives deeper in to the mental disorders of Brody, showing us more of how his mind works, the monster and others.

Am I still dealing with a Book Hangover?- Definitely

Do I want these characters and story to end?- Nope! I need more!

If you have 0 triggers, a open mind and love dark then this is a MUST read!!

I can say that this book is one of my favorites. Unexpected, dark, twisted, dealing with some heavy subjects, having a bit of mystery around it. It wasn't boring at all. I wasn't much of a Brody fan in the previous books, but he changed my mind in this one, where practically we have portraited his story, his struggles with his mind. Summer is obsessed, uncontrolled, but she lacks some love in her life. I liked her and her personality.
Brody and Summer make a good pair, Summer keeping Brody on his toes, their interaction being quite funny some times.
I loved this book, read it in the shortest time possible and I regret nothing.
You should give it a try, but read the trigger warnings and read it with an open mind.

This sequel to the Desecrated Duet is so freaking good. A total mind trip really, a descent into madness and need. Set 25 years later and it seems like hapoy families, but it is so not. If you have triggers, make sure you read the warnings. I like how it is impossible to tell what is going to happen next in this book. The illusion of who has the power is a huge theme, both literally and mentally. This is the type of love story you get when you have someone incapable of love and someone who is so sure they have been in love with someone since they were a child, but it is really obsession. This was like no other book I've ever read.

The Monster lives on!! Brody has been very much anticipated and I have no doubt that he's been written in the best way to finish out the Desecrated trilogy. Advance 26 years after we last saw everyone and the Brody we knew hasn't changed much. Still a cocky boy at heart. He decides to make his return under the pretenses that Oliver has asked him to come home. Although that's not quite it. Someone did ask him to come back. Could it be an enthralled young woman that only knows the myths and Legends? I can't disclose that unless you read the book!! Please do!! It's a fantastic conclusion that I enjoyed very much.

I have to say writing a review after reading a dark book by C.A. Rene is just unfair because I was left without words after finishing Brody's story which is one hell of an insane ride. There are some serious triggers so don't even attempt this book if said dark triggers are something you can't deal with, and I don't mean that in a bad way because everyone is different. There's so much going on in this story with Brody that I'm going to not say another detail so I don't give anything away. The twists & turns were INSANE & coming in hot to the point that I didn't even know which way was up cover to cover. Hell, I'm not even sure if I'm okay with the end or if it is even an ending to be honest (that could be because I need more though LOL). This review is probably coming off so confusing but there's nothing I can do since I won't give any spoilers so if you can deal with taboo with a big kicker of darkness, then you want to experience all of this yourselves but be ready for the unexpected! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was never a love story.
It certainly doesn't end that way either.
I'm really happy that we got to see a more
redeemable Brody. He is not who he was when
everyone presumed he was dead.
He's different, more in control, and is aware of
his alters. He's also been gone for a long time.
Tragedy brings him back, but it also brings him his
son. To make certain things right (at least in his mind).
He also meets his match in Kailey's daughter, Summer.
He is her obsession, and she'll stop at nothing to get him.
This conclusion was not what I was expecting, but I loved it.
It had redemption (in a way), it was dark and twisted in others.

What a conclusion to this duet! Brody is back from the dead over two decades later and he brings crazy with him. This book is bursting at the seams with dark themes and trigger warnings and it’s wrapped up with a mammoth sized psycho bow! I don’t want to give anything away but this book is full of straight jacket needing characters that will shock you over and over with the amount of crazy they are bringing to the table! This is not for the faint of heart but man it was jaw dropping fantastic! But that ending though. Eeekkkkkk

His Affliction is the conclusion to the Desecrated duet and also Brody’s story. I do want to say read the triggers warnings they are there for a reason. This story is incredible. I knew after a few pages I was in for a twisted ride but that was to be suspected with Brody’s story. I couldn’t believe he met his match in Summer. And that even if they tried to stop her from what she wants she went after it anyway. I love how much dark and twisted we are carried on. But in the end Brody will never be your normal hero but who needs that every time, sometime all we really need a Brody with all his monsters in his head. But we also need a heroine just as dark that is why Summer is perfect for him. And their journey is dark, psycho, passion and perfect all the way to the end. Another 5 stars for C.A. Rene for both characters and storyline.
