Forbidden Temptations

The Grump's Girl Friday

Rate this book
I needed to be only what he had hired me to be.
His assistant.

Not his savior.
Not his girlfriend.
And definitely not the mother of his child.

And yet... there I was.

Eric was a total nightmare.
Much older than me, rich AF, refused to settle down.
Despite his mother threatening to deny him his inheritance.
He didn’t care about things that didn’t serve him.
And for that, I hated him.
But I pretended to be his perfect employee.
Surely, I could beat him at his own game.

Coffee? He would have it right on time.
A new contract? I would land it for him.
But pregnancy? That was not what I hoped for.

It could backfire everything.
Cost me my job.
My heart.
Basically, my entire life.
But somehow, somewhere...
Mr. Grump made the destruction sound all worth it.

Deliciously sinful, kindle melting hot, full-length, standalone office romance featuring a smart mouthed girl, capable enough of killing her magnificently grumpy boss with kindness. This one is overloaded with drama, banter, slow burn, off-the-charts heat, and ALL. THE. FEELS.

Eric and Lucy . . .

Lucy Gibson first met Eric Holloway through her boss, Amrose, who asked him as a favor to help her get a job with his company when she had told him she was ready to move on. Eric was a terrible boss, sending her on personal errands and not seeming to value her. When he oversteps and calls her in on a weekend for an “emergency” that is not urgent, she tells him all the irritations she has bottled up. Surprisingly, he apologizes.

When Eric asks her to accompany him out of town to win a client, they are successful. They end up in bed together. She finds out later that she is pregnant. Not sure how he feels about her, she tries to find out, to have him give her a reason to stay and not accept the new job offer elsewhere, but his mind was focused on his morning routine and he didn’t pick up her vague “hints” as she wanted him to guess about the baby, that “change that is coming” she mentioned. Eric has his own fears about relationships, and he didn’t want to influence her decisions about the job offer. Then a phone call ended their conversation. Will she quit her job and leave without directly asking him how he feels about her? Will she tell him about the pregnancy? Is there a future at all left for them?

First time read from this author and I enjoyed the story, well written, a genteel love story of two people who fall in love against all obstacles. This is an age-gap, interracial story, and the characters are so nice they definitely deserve a happy ever after.

You'll love Lucy and Eric's story. He's a grump for sure and their back and forth banter is hilarious at times. They originally met in New York City but were brought together when they were both transferred to North Carolina. He's the heir to a hotel fortune but chooses to work for Matthews Communications the same company she works for. Her life takes a different turn when she agrees to be his personal assistant for a year. No shortage of chemistry or family drama. This is a cute book with a fun story line and well developed characters. Plenty of twists and a surprise or two. I received a free ARC from Booksprout an I'm voluntarily leaving my review.

First, this book is a lot of fun to read!

Both Eric and Lucy are career driven and keep their "eyes on the prize". The conflict in their relationship comes from outside, meddling people. However, they both have to decide if love is more important than wealth and a career. Or can they find a way to combine both?

I was really shocked that Eric's wealthy, socialite mother had no problem with Lucy's size or skin tone. I was expecting an epic battle. Great Story!

Growing up as a PK Lucy was forced to live within a set of expectations that drove her inward. Eric, having been scorned by his life choices, also became introverted. When these two souls collide it is explosive.

Sofia T Summers has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Lucy and Eric. Lucy has just told her boss, Ambrose, that it is time for her to move on and he tells her that it is about time. He tells her that there is a charity event that he has to go to and invites her to go with him since his wife can't go since she is pregnant. This is where Amrose introduces her to Eric and asked Eric to see about getting her a job with his company. Eric tells him to send her resume to the HR department and he would tell them to be on the lookout for it. Lucy gets the job and she has to move back to her home town and that is something she is not wanting to do. When she first starts, things between her and Eric do not go so well. Eric doesn't treat her like part of the team, he treats her like she is his assistant and has her doing things for him, like going to pick up his laundry from the cleaners, and going to get his lunch. She puts up with it until she is with her sister Ashley, and friends helping with planning Ashley's wedding when she gets a call from Eric with a work emergency. This was on a weekend and when she gets to work and finds out there is not an emergency, she let Eric have it. She tells him everything that she has held in since she started working with him. He knows he has treated her wrong and he apologizes to her for it. After that, things are a little bit better between them. Things really change for them when Eric has to go out of town on business and he wants her to go with him and help with the client. With Lucy's help, they get another five-year contract with the client. While they are gone, they end up sleeping together. Eric has feelings for Lucy, but after the way his wife treated him, he doesn't want to get into another long-term relationship. After they get back home, they spend a lot of time together after work and he gets used to her being at his house. He is not as grumpy at work and happier than he has been in a while. Lucy has been working with Matthew Communications for a while and she gets a call about another job back in New York. It is working for a company that works with Matthew Communications. She has been feeling tired lately and when she is at her sister's wedding and at the reception, she gets sick to her stomach. On the way home, she stops and picks up a few pregnancy tests. When she takes them they all say she is pregnant. She doesn't know how to tell Eric about the baby. She doesn't know how he feels about her and she gives him a chance to tell her but he doesn't.
What will happen between Lucy and Eric?
How will he react to the news of her being pregnant?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

I liked it

I'm trying to figure out why I don't want to give it four stars, and maybe going down the list will help.
The plot has a kitchen sink feel with a high stakes situation appearing out of nowhere. There are too many tropes that aren't explored. I say pick one instead of giving pieces of three separate tropes.
The characters are decent. Eric is generic. Lucy is well done as far as I'm concerned. I can't speak for BIPOC readers and how they would view her, but for myself she reminds me of watching Denise on The Cosby Show. She's ambitious, smart, beautiful, and super capable. Lucy is very aware of expectations and how she handles Eric reflects that. The rest of her family and his are character sketches.
The writing is decent. There are callbacks to characters I don't care about and introduced side characters that don't need to be there. The focus is scatter shot and too much emphasis was placed on mediocre love scenes. And what was up with repeating a scene word for word.
The pacing was slow. Glacial filled pointless conversations with side characters. There were build ups for scenes never realized. Killing 'em with kindness, telling his family, friction with the ex, and disclosure at the office. Any of those could replace the ones that actually got included and maybe the conflict and tension could have increased.
The world building was exemplary. New York and Greensboro were treated with similar fondness and familiarity. The weather was extremely well behaved for North Carolina for the most part. It needed to rain more but, that is a nitpicky detail.
So why is it a three star, because one good category doesn't make up for multiple weak points. It is a good story and I enjoyed reading it.

THE GRUMP'S GIRL FRIDAY was not at all what I was expecting. There was a lot of depth to both the story and the characters. This is Eric and Lucy's story and while it was steamy it also has heart. It was interesting that there was a prologue by Eric and the first chapter takes place ten weeks earlier and is told from Lucy's perspective. The story is told in alternating chapters by one of the main characters.

Eric and Lucy didn't get along initially when she was newly hired and assigned to his department. He also treated her poorly since he couldn't seem to be around her without being attracted. When they enter into an arrangement things heated up fast but we also saw they were good for each other and understand each other when others didn't. They were also both workaholics but she seemed to bring out the best in him.

There are family and friends, business associates, anger, sadness, tears, elation, celebrations, joy, happiness, lots of steamy moments along with romance, loving and love. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the relationships Lucy and Eric had with their families. There were a lot of stories being told that were woven together nicely and I liked that characters we've previously met in other books were included in the story. There is a nice flow to the story and good closure especially with the epilogue told by Lucy taking place thirteen months later. I got the happily ever after I look for and it was better than expected. I enjoyed the chapter told by Lucy's friend, Imogene, and look forward to reading her story.

This is a love story about an older man, Eric who is a grumpy man and he has reasons for it. With an ex-wife who won’t sign the final divorce papers and her cheating on Eric has him shut off emotionally. Lucy is a younger woman who moved away from home due to her family members are too critical on her life choices. Lucy goes to college in NY City and works at Sutherby’s as an assistant to a well known man. One night he has Lucy attend a function and introduces her to Eric who promises to share her resume with his HR company. Lucy is shocked to get a call and offered a position in her hometown Greensboro and knows she can not pass up this opportunity. Against her wishes to stay in NY Lucy finds her way home and all her crazy family has something to say about her life, looks, the way she dresses and on and on. On Lucy’s 1st day things are crazy and Eric shows how grumpy he is so Lucy takes it all in and becomes the person he needs. These two had an attraction on that one night in NY so when Lucy and Eric start working together their are sparks that they both discover to be more. They are two good people who find one another and their journey is one worthy of love. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Lucy Gibson & Eric Holloway. Lucy has just finished her masters degree and has let her boss know that she is looking to move on from her administrative assistance position. He is not only happy for her but agrees with her and introduces her to Eric to pass on her resume. When she not only gets the job but starts her first day she feels like she has done something to personally offend him. She is strong and determined though and will show this job that she is the best to be there. Eric knows from the moment he first lays eyes on Lucy there is something special about her. When she is hired and put under his division. There is a part of him that wonders if this is his last hurrah or if working will her will help him to improve too. The biggest problem is his pride won't let him listen to her and things go from bad to worse before they get better. Can these two find a HEA or will they be destined to butt heads forever?

Another amazing story by this author. The emotional roller-coaster these two go through will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Eric Holloway, Chief Marketing Officer of Matthews Communications, met Lucy in New York. Though he was heir to Holloway Hotels, he enjoyed working for Matthews. His attitude just sucked, disgruntled and acted like a curmudgeon.
Lucy Gibson just finished her Master degree. She worked in New York to get away from her nosy family that she just couldn't seem to buck. A week after meeting Eric, she was offered a job with Matthews Communications as a senior strategist. Problem, it was at headquarters in her hometown, Greensboro, NC. Only good thing was she could be hands on maid of honor for her sisters wedding.
When Eric looses his personal assistant, Lucy makes a deal with him. I'll be your assistant until you get a new one, a raise and when done a transfer to another office out of state.
This is their story. A casual affair, why Eric is a grump, an oops, family, threats of disinheritance are just a part of this well written book. Read now to find all the answers. They might surprise you.

Lucy first meets Eric in NY when she is still working as an administrative assistant to the head of Sotheby's and has just finished her masters. Her boss recommends her to the company he works for back in Lucy's hometown of Greensboro NC. She does end up getting a job offer and assigned to work closely with Eric, when his personal assistant has a breakdown, she assigned some of the responsibilities. Eventually Eric's grumpy attitude gets the best of Lucy and she tells him off, it makes him look at her differently and realize how he has been.

A business trip to San Francisco changes the relationship between the two, what was meant to be just during the trip, starts lovers keeping things on the down low. All is not smooth, there is Eric's estranged wife and surprise pregnancy that throws in some drama.

This was my first book by the author and will have to go back and read some of the others in this series.

His Unexpected Soulmate -
Eric was a hot and grumpy alpha male who had sworn off relationships and was a workaholic. Lucy was a sassy and feisty heroine, who didn’t allow anyone to push her around. They had an instant connection, which they tried to resist, but after spending time together, it allowed them to see each other differently. They relationship agreement was meant to have a time limit, but it became a moot point after the near fatal incident and the surprise pregnancy.

This story was highlighted the fact that you shouldn’t give up, when things don't go right the first time, as you don’t know what is in store for you around the corner. I enjoy reading stories about strong female characters that don't put up with crap and alpha males who realise the potential of having such a heroine in their life. This story had everything I would want included in a must read story and I am sure you will feel the same way after reading it too.

Lucy is talented, has just earned her qualifications and is offered a great opportunity with an amazing company. The catch is: she has to move from New York back to her home town, where her boisterous extended family like to interfere in her business.

Eric is drawn to Lucy from the first time they meet, but they get off on the wrong foot. Eric is a grumpy perfectionist taskmaster whose attraction to the much younger Lucy makes him even more irritable. Lucy decides the only way to work together is to kill him with kindness.

This book has so many tropes. Age-gap, Boss-assistant office romance, secret pregnancy, Sunshine-grumpy, fake relationship, enemies to lovers... they're all in here.

I liked the two MC's. The relationship between the two of them developed along well. The ending was expectedly cliche, but ok because you know what you're getting right out of the gate.

This book contains descriptive love scenes.

Well worth reading this steamy, feel-good story. 4*
This was a well-written, easy-to-read, enjoyable age-gap novel with good use of the English language, good editing, good vocabulary, and well-described characters. I particularly liked Lucy, a talented, lovely young woman with a sassy, confident, likeable personality, able to deal with Eric, her grumpy, unhappy, boss. Secretly they have a strong attraction to one another and over the course of the book, they not only give in to their desires but become so much more than casual hook-ups to one another. This is a feel-good inter-racial romance with a well-deserved HEA, that, like in so many romances, almost didn’t happen. I particularly liked Lucy’s level-headed character that could be a role model for young women. I am happy to recommend this book to anyone who likes strong heroines and heroes that can realise what they are fighting for.

Lucy got her big break with a marketing job in a major firm. The only problem was that it was in her home town of Greensboro, NC where all her good intentioned and loving family was located. When she arrived at work she found out she was being assigned to the big marketing executive, Eric, who also had the reputation of being a grouch. While away on a business trip they got involved and Eric proposed a temporary arrangement to prove to his mother that he was dating. Of course temporary arrangement can become more in a romance book and we have an unexpected baby added to the mix. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were extremely well written. I did not want to put this book down when I started to read it. I loved it! Sofia T. Summers another job well done.

If you read Sophia before you may remember Lucy as Ambrose’s PA. She’s smart, quick-witted, and lovable. When she meets the handsome Eric, there’s a spark for both of them but she’s trying to get an in with his company. She does, but she has to go home to Greensboro to take the position and that’s a hard task because her family is better in small doses. This connection between Eric and Lucy is evident, but he’s hardened by his past. He just can’t get the bronzed skin beauty out of his mind. When he’s driven her to the breaking point, she reads him his rights and he gets his act together and the heat is on. Can these two work, play, have an arrangement together without falling hard…highly unlikely. I really enjoyed this book. Sophia does the surprise pregnancy with so much fun! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Older grumpy boss & the beautiful young talented employee...
The hero was worse than a grump, he was demanding, intolerant & inconsiderate. The heroine would kill him with kindness but she was not impressed by his unreasonable demands that were not in her job description. The problem was she was so good at her job & could meet his expectations that he wanted her to be his permanent assistant which was a waste of her hard earned talent. When he had an "emergency" on the weekend she went running & then spoke her mind about him being beyond unreasonable. Not that he could change in a hurry but he did apologise. Their relationship evolves to intimacy & then how will the grump act when he learns that she is pregnant with his child. Great dialogue, banter & sexy, right up my alley. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

I love surprises pregnancy books, that's the main reason I picked up this book. I don't really know how I feel about the story though. Lucy and Eric had an interesting work relationship, that developed into lusting after each other and slowly falling in love, after making a bargain, but neither of them dared to acknowledge it. Since her dream was to go back to New York, where she lived before coming to work at his firm, when the opportunity arises, he doesn’t try to stop her. The pregnancy is actually a small part at the end of the story, a little drama with his ex-assistent makes it known, Lucy wasn't keen to tell him, since he didn't try to stop her from going back. An all right read, but being advertised as a surprise pregnancy book, I expected it to be the focus point of the story, so I'm a little disappointed.

A nice read.

This book wasn’t really what I expected.

Nicely written with a pretty well done storyline, tho at some points, it was a bit lengthy with TMI, at least ones that I think without them, the book would still be fine, they didn’t affect the storyline much.

The chemistry between our two mains, Eric and Lucy, was good. Though, I probably would’ve loved it more if, A LITTLE SPOILER ALERT HERE, in the end, they hadn’t rush into marriage like that. Because to me, their interactions and relationship development throughout the book weren’t enough for them to reach that stage yet. Maybe make it official? Yes! But marriage? A little too soon.

Anyway, whenever I start a book, any books, I try my best to keep my mind fresh and expectations free. But there will be books that when you look at the title, the cover and the premise, you can’t help but be a little judgmental and have some certain opinions and expectations about it. And I think I read enough to recognize those.

I know I know, don’t judge a book by its cover, but when I first saw this book’s holy three, aka the title, the cover and the premise, I honestly didn’t really expect much from it and just hoped for a good, or hell an okay, time here. But surprisingly, it exceeded my expectations and turned out to be quite good.

However, while it was way better than books where you have no expectations whatsoever and you don’t have (or want) to take it seriously, it definitely felt underdeveloped compared to books where you know you can expect for more.

Does that make sense to you?

Idk, along the way, something felt either missing or not enough.

Overall, this was decent and I still had a great time here, just wished that it was developed more.

This was a well paced read full of drama and steam although there was nothing too over the top, either in drama or steam. I liked both Lucy and Eric as they seemed liked realistic and sensible individuals. Although their personalities seemed opposite, they balanced each other out. Both had family drama to deal with that was handled with tact and care. I even liked the family members although I’m curious as to Eric’s brother’s background. While Lucy and Eric’s relationship got steamy, it was not too explicit. This was an interracial relationship but the difference in skin colour was not exaggerated. This was more a story about 2 people who fell in love.

I loved the cover!

I really enjoyed reading, The Grump's Girl Friday by Sofia T Summers because it was such a steamy story about Eric and Lucy. Lucy was working for Eric who was her boss and a grumpy man. He made Lucy's life miserable with his grumpiness. Everyone noticed it too. Lucy's character was bold and she was not afraid to speak her mind at all. Eric's character was broody and moody and he was having feelings for Lucy that he didn't want to have. That is why he was grumpy. Things were intense for both of them. I would highly recommend reading this story. It was steamy and very intense and there was a bit of drama in it as well. It was a great story!!!

This was a great story. Highly recommend this book. The only reason I did not give the book 5 stars is it started out a little slow and it was a little difficult to understand the motivations of the main characters at first. Definitely worth the little bit of time it took to get beyond the setup to the rest of the story which was fantastic. I admit I am not a big fan of a "preview" of the current, go back in time for the rest of the book to catch up to the first thing you read somewhere in the middle.

Overall a great story with characters I loved. The H is definitely swoon-worthy and a true romantic hero. The h is someone I can respect. She is strong, caring female character who is also very loving. Wonderful story.

This was an interesting story. Lucy Gibson gets her Master's degree while working full time and gets a job that requires her to move back home to Greensboro. While her new job entails doing the things she studied so hard for, she somehow becomes Eric Holloway's Girl Friday. His grumpy persona is off-putting, but Lucy seems to be the only one who can penetrate that gruff exterior. This is a forbidden office romance, so what you think will happen, happens. BUT... there's a surprise along the way! While the forbidden office romance storyline can be a bit predictable, the author made the characters interesting and gave them personalities that while opposite, made them able to get along and fall in love.

I love the grump/sunshine torpe!!! Eric is the ultimate grump. He is a workaholic and Lucy is determined to kill him with kindness. She is hired at his company as an analyst, but Eric treats her like she is an assistant. He does everything he can to make sure she is always out of the office running errands. She gets under his skin and he can't handle it.

Their story had sweet moments, a little bit of drama and plenty of sexy times.

Style: Age-gap, grump/sunshine, office romance

Sofia has a 5-star hit on her hands with The Grump’s Girl Friday. Lucy has graduate and tell her boss Ambrose that she wants to get a new start. He hates to see her go but understands and helps her by introducing her to Eric and gives him her resume. When they meet Eric seems to be taken by Lucy. Lucy finds out she gets the job but it lands her back in her old town and she isn’t too thrilled but hopes after a little while she can move up. When Eric has to have her fill in after his assistant falls ill these two will see be working close and things begin to change between them.
A really enjoyable funny steamy yummy storyline. Well worth the time.

This is an older man/younger woman story but you will forget the age difference. Eric is a grumpy exec who has thrown his life into his work, especially after a horrible marriage he has decided relationships aren't for him.
Lucy is an independent woman who is at the top of her field. She is thrilled to be working for Eric, but it's not what she was expecting.
These two are wonderful together. Their banter keeps the story going. And when Lucy agrees to help Eric with a family situation, it just notches up their chemistry.
I love the secondary characters and most of us can relate to those relatives that just want to butt into everyone's business.
Enjoyable story.
