Draco stared at her, sure he had misheard. “Pardon?”
Hermione looked up at the ceiling, taking a deep breath. “I have it on good— I have heard— oh bloody hell,” she muttered. “I’m bad in bed. I need practice.”
His lungs had entirely stopped working. “Practice,” he repeated dully.
“Yes, practice.”
“At sex.”
“At sex.”
“And you came to me why?”
“Because what else are we going to do here this month?”
Enjoyed it a lot but started skimming a bit closer to the end cause oblivious Hermione was annoying me and miscommunication/lack of communication isn’t my favorite
Call It What You Want is a series that also includes: Stary Eyes Sparking Up My Darkest Nights And Loves Me Like I’m Brand New Both of which, I’ll be including as part of my review for this short story.
Call It What You Want is a cute and fluffy novella that’s only 14 chapters long. The story takes place with Draco and Hermione already having an established working relationship (not to mention the fact that Draco is already head-over-heels in love with our girl).
I loved how protective Draco was over Hermione as well as how much Hermione trusted Draco to always have her back (even before she was aware of any additional feelings). It made the relationship that progressed from there seem believable.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy about this story was how Hermione not only forces Draco to give her answers to questions she already suspects she knows, but then she also initially rejects him and the feelings he has for her. She raked him over the coals a bit, just to stab him in the heart at the end.
Plus, with how vehement Hermione was that she didn’t care for him that way at all, it was a quick transition to her admitting that she was in love with him too. The happy conclusion, then, seemed more forced. Her friends are the ones insisting she has feelings; Hermione doesn’t come to this conclusion by herself and is practically pushed back into Draco’s arms. I wish that had been handled a bit differently.
I didn’t love the epilogue either. It takes place over 7 years after the conclusion of chapter 13. I enjoyed getting a look into the future, but I don’t know that that much time needed to have passed nor do I think the glimpse we got made a ton of sense (since half of it is them [loving] arguing about giving their 2 kids a bath).
Overall though, this was a really enjoyable (and quick) read.
Stary Eyes Sparking Up My Darkest Nights is a one-chapter deleted scene that falls between chapters 5 and 6, and Loves Me Like I’m Brand New is another one-chapter deleted scene between chapter 13 and the epilogue. Both were cute and completely worth the read, but I don’t really understand why they couldn’t have been included within the story. It would’ve made more sense to do so. (Also, can we just take note of how terrible these two titles are?)
Cute afternoon read I rewarded myself with for finishing my own Dramione inspired book.
Half a star off for them cutting out the smutty scenes and putting them somewhere else. I'm offended... Another half off for some grammar and spelling errors that got in the way of my enjoyment. Another half for the duel not taking place and ending in an amicable handshake I don't think would've happened, along with some other out-of-character behaviors.
Really well done dramione where the two work together in the Department of Mystery and are sent on assignment to an island in Scotland to deal with a nasty dead pureblood family's relics/house/land/wards.
The story was on point and kept me engaged the whole time. Sex scenes were fantastically written. A nice, quick 35K word fic that's worth a read especially as a palette cleanser to balance those darker fics.
premise was very interesting and this fic, i felt, was wittier than for the best, but suffered the same problem once dramione became established and i got bored quite easily.
The only reason this isn’t five stars is that I needed more 😭 it was way too short. If this author ever writes a full book length version of this- for the love of all that is good and green on this earth- someone tag me or something
So dang cute! Short and sweet. Forced proximity and a Hermione Granger who believes she’s bad at sex so she asks Malfoy to help her practice. Malfoy is protective and loving and I just love it.
