While searching a deserted mountain range, an explorer locates a high-tech artifact he assumes is merely another interesting find. It’s only one piece in a greater puzzle leading towards a device of ultimate power, the Diffusor-Sphere. Suddenly, he’s thrown into a battle between an engineer who’s remade himself as a cybernetic demigod, and the one tasked with safeguarding humanity from him. The only way out is recovering the Sphere first, but will he reach it in time?
The Treasure of Lor-Rev is another exciting adventure from Bryan Asher, set in the world of floating nations known as The Intercontinents.
Bryan Asher is a native Washingtonian and lifelong fan of fiction in all its forms. He started out like many kids from the '90s, being enthralled by all the superhero comics and cartoons crossing his vision. His love of literary fiction came when he was handed a copy of John Bellairs, “The Chessmen of Doom” by his local librarian. Bryan still credits John Bellairs as his greatest literary influence, with his books featuring multiple illustrations and stand-alone adventures, just like Bellairs.
After years of dedication and planning, he debuted his first novel in 2020, “The Assassin of Malcoze.” The following year he released his second novel, “The Treasure of Lor-Rev,” which went on to win multiple awards.
Bryan still lives in Renton Washington with his loving wife and two awesome children. He also still has the first comic book he ever purchased (which cost a quarter in 1990).
The Treasure of Lor-Rev isn't a perfect book, but it's definitely better than most self-published stuff out there. It feels a lot like a 1980s adventure movie with a futuristic sci-fi flair. It makes me excited to see what Bryan Asher produces in the future.

Readers’ Comments “Enjoyed this book a lot. The first chapter is a little hard to follow but then it gets much better. Exciting in parts and filled with interesting characters.” Male reader, aged 34 “Overall, this is a good read. There´s plenty happening, and the author knows his Intercontinent settings well. I did fell the speech was wooden, and needed spicing up, many of the characters sounding identical. But it didn´t pull away from the compelling plot.” Female reader, aged 56 “I was impressed by the author´s imagination whilst reading this sci-fi adventure. He works so hard to offer the reader a complex setting for them to get lost in. An exciting story with slightly uneven pacing but with a solid ending. I suspect we will be seeing more of this author in the future.” Male reader, aged 63
To Sum It Up: ‘A superbly imagines sci-fi adventure with a memorable cast of characters. A RED RIBBON WINNER and highly recommended!’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
After having read his newest novel (The Fear of Moncroix) I was kindly approach by the author to review his other books and I have to say, you might consider Bryan Asher one of the authors from whom now I will read anything.
The Treasure of Lor-Rev is definitely a treasure hunt set on a sci-fi world, and while I thought this could be my favourite of the three I’ve read since is sci-fi but I have to say that I’m not the biggest fan of the plot. We follow an explorer who discovers an old tech artefact that has been hidden for years, and now with the help of a super cool lady (she definitely is cool) they have to stop humanity from being slaved while being hunted with an augmented cybernetic human. I do have to say that in paper it sounds amazing but it didn’t grab my attention as the other two books. I do have to say according to the ending this could make a pretty cool series of spinoff following the characters that we already know.
Once again the world building was great, you could definitely picture the wasteland outside and the cyberpunk city inside. This also helped by once again great interior illustrations. There are nice touches here and there that make the world feel alive and pretty grounded in reality (well in a future reality). This is probably the book with more references to other Intercontinents specially Moncroix, which makes super sad to not have discovered before that all of Bryan Asher’s books are set in the same world since I started with book three and didn’t get at the time any of the references (a reread might be necessary to get even more enjoyment out of it). I mean you could still read them in any other but it felt way better getting every little nudge. I also need to add that there are fragments of interviews in the middle of the book that gave it a great touch and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Characters were fleshed out as we again had multiple POV’s, all narrated in third person. Jared was extremely charismatic every time we were in his POV and Kanna is just the coolest chick ever.
We also have a little bit of romance and even though I’m not a fan of it in general it was okay and it didn’t take you out of the story at all.
I would say the weakest point for me was the villain, who just felt evil for the sake of it making him a bit cartoonish at times, I even preferred Nathan for a moment there instead of Daemon.
The Treasure of Lor-Rev is the second book by Asher.
This book takes place in the same universe as his first but in a different time and place. I honestly enjoyed this book more than his first. I'm not sure if its the Sci-Fi premise or just that he is coming into his own as an author. Nonetheless, it was definitely enjoyable.
In this novel an unlikely group forms in the depths of Lor-Rev to track down stowed away tech. This tech is at risk of falling into the wrong hands and turning all of society into a hive mind. The group can't let this happen!
Lor-Rev ia heavily influed by cyberpunk style and to me felt like it had some Matrix undertones (maybe why I liked it).
A fun Sci-Fi adventure novel with dashes of humorous banter. This self-published work has all the hallmarks of great start in writing. I'm excited to see how Bryan Asher grows in his craft as he publishes more.
Overall, I loved this story. The plot was interesting, the pacing was good and the characters were fun.
One criticism that I have is this: Add depth to the villians. I'm not sure why but the main antagonist felt very mustache twirly bad guy rather than super calculating and manipulative like the author was aiming for. In my opinion, a story is only as good as its villian.
But as I said earlier it was a fun ride through the story and I liked the level of detail that the author clearly worked hard to have in there.
Received as a review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. A wickedly smart, immersive journey that's makes the story feel a science fiction version of Wonderland. A world of secrets and one single artifact can bring devastating consequences and it's the person that holds the truths that'll steer the fate of everything. A thought provoking, witty and poignant tale beautifully written you'll want to return to after the first visit. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed this book, great follow up to his first. Set in the same world, but this one has a completely new perspective. Fun, fast-paced, cool sci fi tech, interesting characters — there’s lots to love about this book.
What a fun and exciting second book in the “Intercontinents” world. I love how Bryan Asher has written these books as separate stories, but they are still they are interconnected. This is a well written, fast paced story that is chocked full of action. It’s an entertaining and interesting take on the Science Fiction genre, I have found another go to author. Simply awesome.
You can read this as a standalone book or as a series, but I suggest reading them all.
It was once again my pleasure and an honor to receive a free copy of this book but that does not in any way affect my opinions in this review of this entertaining story.
I really enjoyed this book set in the same world, but different "intercont" than his first book. Great characters, great story, very unique and interesting world he has created with so many possibilities. I want to read more from Bryan Asher. I also really enjoyed this one as it is in a different set of rules than the first book, and this author can write both fantasy and science fiction and leave me ready for more.
I can't wait to see where he takes this world he created.
What I Did Like: +Excellent start. When you’re dealing with heavy science fiction you have to walk a fine line between bringing people into the world immediately and not giving them too much to learn too quickly. This one does a remarkable job of that! It’s a beautiful balance. Also, starting with a villain … INSTANT high stakes. +The world building is well done. The technology is futuristic but still understandable. Plus the addition of the images really helps bring everything together in a cool way. +The characters are great. From the main team to the villain and even including the side characters from present AND past, everyone has clear goals and furthers the story in some way.
Who Should Read This One: -Futuristic Scifi fans, this one packs a lot of great world building into its short length, making it a good recommendation for fans of the genre!
This book is a solid 4.5 to 4.75 because of its imagery, creative narrative and dialogue, on top of the diversity of character make up and girl power. I can see this book become a series or beloved limited release content in your favorite streaming platform; kinda like Mad Max meets Total Recall. It has cyborgs, eccentric founders, and cool dystopian tech - which reminded me a lot of Asimov's Foundation.
I think it would be a good read for teens and young adults, just as well as for the geeky/nerdy crowd. It's not heavy on the science or on the societal commentary but it still gets some of those points across. Wish I had grabbed the rest of the collection at ECCC to continue to learn about the mysteries or Lor-Rev and the Intercontinents.
I randomly got to meet the author at a local Comic-Con. His sign described this book as a mix of Uncharted and Blade Runner, so of course I had to check it out. It was a good description! Maybe it’s the power of suggestion but I couldn’t help but picture the main character as a sci-fi Nathan Drake. I really enjoyed this and hope there will be more.
A fun read. I love sci-fi treasure hunts. The main characters are interesting and the dialogue between them is playful. Looking forward to what comes next in this universe created by the author.
