Entire and complete Mpreg romance with HEA!

Being the brother of Elias Darkriver comes with an undeserved stigma Julian can't shake. The day he finally gets brave enough to enter the shop of the gorgeous, intimidating man only known as Wehr, his life changes. His grandmother has told him stories about dragons for as long as he can remember, but he was never sure he believed them… That changes in one afternoon. Julian doesn't believe a man like Wehr… a dragon, could possibly see him as anything but a charity case, and Wehr doesn't want to take advantage of the sweet, beautiful man who sacrifices everything for others. All it will take is a moment of weakness for everything to ignite.

DNF at 35%

The thing that led to my DNF is the explanation of mpreg by a child (literal child), in this book, using romance book and fanfic references:

Pursing her lips, she looked toward the stone overhang above us, clearly thinking. "Okay," she said finally, nodding hard. "Do you read books? Gay romance?" I blushed, but nodded. "Sometimes." It was a lot more than sometimes, but she didn't need to know that.
"I'm not allowed to read the stuff with sex in it yet, but I really like to read fanfic sometimes. Have you ever read Mpreg?"

I just cannot. This is a child. She could explain mpreg system of the dragons normally, but this kind of thing...isn't she like 8 or some shit.

Other things:

• this was generally kind of hard for me to follow. I couldn't remember which characters were related to who, and who was doing what, etc. It was just all at once all the time.

• so much gasping

• straight to a capitalized, random pet name "Little Flower" (y tho)

• I also managed to continually forget whose POV I was in...when it should be obvious given their differences.

• it was confusing to my sad brain to reconcile "tribute" meaning "leader" for the dragons (i accept this is petty and tiny criticism but man was it distracting)

Overall, this had a lot of things that didn't work for me, first and foremost precocious mpreg explaining child via fanfic.

Different J.D. Light but not to different to be enjoyable.

It was too short. I got confused in the end when a bunch of characters were mentioned and I had no clue who they were. It felt like I'd missed something. I get the feeling that this .5 book was written after the other two.

I really liked Loli a lot. Although like another reviewer, I did find her reference to mpreg off putting. That reviewer thought she was 8 but she's 13 or 14 which I guess makes it a little less weird but still.

I actually hadn't realized who the author was when I read this. Now that I know it becomes obvious to me why the nickname Little Flower started so early in their relationship. The author does this with all of the Chosen books. It annoyed me so much I quit reading that series.

"Burned" received TWO AND A HALF stars.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

1/2 * gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

More serious and less intriguing, but not less captivating.

This new series contains a human-dragon relationship.

A human who has been deprived of many things by life is given a "flame", a dragon mate, who will do his best to protect him and give him back hope, immense joy and a loving family.

I am looking forward to the next part of this wonderful series.

Poor Julian’s background story was tragic and his brother insane. Wehr was almost to good to be true but Julian definitely deserved someone like him. I liked Loli too. I wish there were better descriptions of them in their dragon’s form. I can’t even remember whether the books specifies Wehr’s colour.

This book truly touched my heart and had brought happy tears to my eyes. I loved Wehr and Julian (who had had an awful past) and the love that they had for one another along with another character who had became a part of their family. This was excellent and I'm looking forward to reading much more in this series. Loved it. :)

I didn't connect with this story. The idea is good, who doesn't like dragons and mates? New terms, unnecessary but I understand trying to be unique. The story should have drawn me in, cute kid, fated mates, shifters, protective partner, mpreg, a bit of mystery. Somehow it didn't though. Not sure why.

Sweet, fun and very entertaining. There are 2 novels that follow this "Scorched" and "Scalded" and are best read in order but could probably be read in order.

Perfect little bite of awesome. Hurt/comfort vibes as these two meet and it’s pretty much love at first sight. Loli is the perfect addition for these two.

Cute and funny and sweet ... but not *too* sweet. And then there's this issue about laying an egg, but you'll have to read this book to find out who, why and how. ;)

I don't know why this isn't properly linked to the rest of the Emblazoned series, but this precedes book #1, Scorched.
