Have you ever wanted to travel somewhere with absolute peace and quiet and not be in a rush? If you answered yes then this book is for you. Quiet Escapes, by Emma Thompson, is full of ideas on achieving this. As our world becomes smaller and more focused on technology, the hidden destinations of the world are disappearing, and instead becoming huge tourist attractions filled with crowds and the same fast food restaurants from back home. Ms. Thompson’s book showcases not only remote locations, but the locations that are trying to turn back the environmental impacts overcrowding and overdevelopment have created. With destinations on all seven continents and ranging from camping outdoors to exclusive resorts on tropical islands, there is something for everyone. Ms. Thompson provides details from booking your trip to the best views.
Our world is rapidly changing as we become more and more dependent on technology. Getting back into nature and experiencing the quiet can help us humans recharge. Even if you aren’t ready or able to travel to a mountainside monastery in Tibet, or take a cruise to Antarctica, the descriptions and beautiful photography in this book can transport you there for a moment of relaxation,
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was an intriguing travel guide! Thanks to NetGalley and Mobius for the chance to preview and review this book. Publication date to be September 13, 2022 “Slow” travel has become quite a thing and this book takes it one step further. The author seeks out quiet and contemplative destinations all over the world. The photography was wonderfully inspiring. The format was very helpful with clear suggestions for traveling to the destination and where to stay and things to do. There were even other suggested similar trips for each section. For the most part the destinations were exotic and sometimes primitive but there were some more accessible to the average traveler . The chapter Urban Oases was particularly appealing, as traveling to remote locations might be cost prohibitive for many. I loved how the writer mentioned how the destinations would also benefit from “quiet” travel to maintain their pristine uniqueness while helping out economically. I have definitely added some of these to my personal bucket list. It was great fun to read about and imagine all of the trips!
This title includes such interesting travel destinations. Make your way to Greenland’s remote Arctic Circle Trail or to Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile or, one that I have been to, Haleakala National Park in Hawaii. There are fifty amazing places here, enough to fill a lifetime of travel. Just a few of those that I would like to visit are Foula in the Shetland Islands (it has a population of just 38), Fogo in Labrador and I do love that the Met Cloisters in New York (that I know) was included. Travel all the world here, so much more is included than just the ones that I have highlighted in this book that is packed with information and photos. Armchair and real travelers, the world is here for you.
Many thanks to Hachette Book Group and NetGalley for this title. All opinions are my own.
Emma is a fantastic writer and this book so apt in today's world of never ending noise and lack of serenity. There are so many recommendations on here to find silence.
Lovely book with places all over the world to unwind, or go "quiet". Beautiful pictures and information about each place. Many are remote, but not all are.
