Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
This is a better book than the first but Gareth is still a bit annoying. His belief of knightly behaviour sometimes strikes me as naive and that causes some arrogance. But he seems to be outgrowing it. All in all it’s still a very good book and worth reading
Good 2nd book with a little humor sprinkled in as well as some great battles. Especially in the 2nd 1/2 of the book when a great enemy tries to bring down a whole town and kill all the people including the Prince. In one of the Battles Gareth has a battle where he ends up with an elven shield that is magical. And then later ends up being taken by another enemy which is after an ancient powerful artifact called the Dragonskull which she wants to use for evil.
The overall was an okay read. The plot and characters have developed well. The MC was neieve again and annoying about the girl he loves. Almost every thought was about her and it became repetitive to the point I had to stop reading for a bit.
So many different races, magic and dark magic beinthrown about ! Four young teenagers in training to become Knights in a land of dangers and unexpected conflicts. Then we have the ancient runes under some of the greate cities that are very old and ancient the deeper one may find themselves in ! In many ways reminded me of exsploring dungens. . Undead toumbs, magical beasts, and traps of many kinds ! Mysteries to unravel and much Sword play and Sorcery to overcome.
But in the beginning - these young men were so wanting to growing up, hoping to become great Knights ! But had to overcome their own differences first ! They had to learn to war as one against their enemies rather than each other !
This is a story of the school of hard knocks that a actually woke them up and learn to survive and navigate many dangers that stalked their lives most every day in one way 9r another !
Ever book keeps taking them into greater and greater danger ! I keep wanting to find out what next foe you never know what's next ?
Going to the next book now ! He just won a special Shield after fighting a thousand years old dead warrior ! He got caught up in a trap in an ancient city deep under ground ! Separated from their team who were trying to find their way back to the surface !
I started reading this 3/31/22 and felt that something was “off.” When did Gareth grow up, become a knight and have a love interest? After doing a bit of research I realized that I hadn’t read Book 1 of this series yet so back this goes. I buy these books as they’re released but if I’m in the middle of another story at the time, they get lost on my Kindle. Just for grins I checked my Kindle content and found that over the years I have obtained 121 Kindle books and 25 documents (via Smashwords) by Mr. Moeller, which I’m sure is a record compared to any other author I follow. I decided to compare short stories with anthologies to eliminate any of the former that were included in the latter. I then made a list of any unread publications and intend to play catch-up. Right now I’m reading Book 5 in Wraithshard of the Demonsouled series. I’ll get back to this book sooner than later.
4/13/22 - Finally read Sword of the Squire which filled in the blanks. Unfortunately I just don’t find Gareth a very appealing main character. He’s grown up a bit in this book compared to the last as he’s now 19 years of age but still too immature. He does make an admirable hero when it comes to battles and protecting the Prince. Hopefully he’ll continue to expand his horizons and learn to accept life’s realties.
At the start of this book Gareth and his friends have been Knights for a year now, and are travelling to Cintarra with Dux Constantine to escort Prince Tywall to Tarlion, where he is to be married.
The events of the book are centred around their arrival at the city and the subsequent preparations for their departure to Tarlion. The action comes thick and fast, including several encounters with undead Orcs in the Shadow Ways below Cintarra. The action is nicely interspersed with light-hearted moments between the friends and some of their newer acquaintances, giving you insights into their various backgrounds and personalities. There is also a growing mystery surrounding Gareth, about how he has been affected since he touched the Waystone and what significance this will hold for his future.
All of these elements combine to create another enjoyable, engaging and entertaining story.
Having to escort Prince Tywall to Tarlion where his mother stays...as well as the love of his life, sure is no problem whatsoever for Gareth. Except, dark forces are at work to kill Prince Tywall. And Gareth! Dragonskull: Shield of the Knight by author Jonathan Moeller, certainly turned out to be a humdinger of a thriller with some hair raising incidents enough to twist one's stomach. At least I got clarification on what the waystone truly is as well as the significance of the dragonskull. In spades! Enjoy
Gareth Arban and his knight friends battle arachar orcs as they try and kill the prince of of Cintarra. Gareth know learns the true name of Lady Anna is Azarmola, Quaesitor of the Heptarchy who is following Gareth because of his connection to Niara one of the first Magistri and the Dragonskull.
It is quite easy to immerse yourself in this series, the characters and plots are interesting. The author includes enough about characters that you become invested in them and the plot lines. The pace is a good one and the book flows but there is humour enough as well, a good read.
I almost gave this 4 stars because of details. But Gaven is still constantly referencing his crush (at least it became an unexpected plot point!) and some of the behaviour of everyone is juvenile and Gaven is downright stupid (or the misdirection didn’t work on me). So this book hints at but isn’t on par with the books I’ve given 4 stars to. But I will read the next!
The son of Ridmark Aruban, the Shield Knight is following in the footsteps of his father. A loyal knight and friend, who try’s to be the perfect knight in an imperfect world.
Jonathon Moeller has never failed to entertain me with his writing. He manages to wind various characters into a glorious story and keep me from putting the book down. Looking forward to more.
