Alpha Compound #3

Wide Awake: Alpha Compound - Book 3

Rate this book
My life hangs by a perilous thread. The Awaken Virus began turning men into mindless beasts three years ago. They ravaged and burned and killed, and humanity hasn’t been safe since.

Carmen
Bouncing between friends’ apartments and the shelter was hard enough. But now women are being abducted right off the streets by Awakened. That’s why I decided to get out of New York and head for the forest upstate–I can be alone there–alone and safe.

Imagine my horror when an Awakened male saunters right into my new home, flirting like a lunatic and offering unsolicited gardening advice. Connor claims I’m his omega, and offers to introduce me to our “mate”. Hard pass. My reservations are confirmed when I meet Brady and he tries to rip my head off.

What makes this even worse is the Awakened Task Force breathing down the alphas’ necks. I came out here to feel secure, but safety is an illusion the longer I stay around the alphas.

There’s just one problem. Connor and I can’t keep our hands off one another. And every time we slip up and touch, it hurts Brady. Discovering me is tearing their bond apart.

One of them wants to kiss me, and the other wants to kill me. Can I figure out what’s between us before the Task Force destroys it all?

Wide Awake is the third book in the Alpha Compound series, by Anna Fury. This dystopian MMF omegaverse romance features a quiet heroine and two alpha males finding their happily ever after.

I don’t know that I’ve read a more uncomfortable MMF book in a long time. It takes balanced writing for an author to have two men deeply in love, and then involve another into their bond. Even the synopsis from Carmen says it all….
There’s just one problem. Connor and I can’t keep our hands off one another. And every time we slip up and touch, it hurts Brady. Discovering me is tearing their bond apart.
Because this is a shifter omegaverse, (insta-lust, knotting, alpha/omega dynamics) usually sexual feelings are intense, immediate and welcomed by all involved. This was not the case here and that made it difficult to read. This was a far more angsty and complex pairing than I anticipated from a book in this cheesy-fun series.

*There will be some slight spoilers in the rest of my review*

Brady is against the three-way bond. He’s jealous of his mate, Connor who is all over Carmen from the get-go. These two men are deeply in love and bonded. They have a smokin hot connection with throat-grabbing-toss-you-against-the-wall-and-have-my-way-with-you sex. However, they have hidden their mating from the pack, thinking no one would understand their unique alpha-alpha bond.

I felt so badly for Brady. At 50% into this story, he’s still not feeling it. Despite Connor saying he’d go along with whatever Brady wanted to do…Connor is GONE for this omega. He’s tasted her slick and he’s over the moon ready to make her his, or theirs…whatever, as long as he gets her.
-I thought Connor and I had everything we need, and I don’t want someone to come between that - no matter how fucking beautiful she is.

-It’s always been Connor for me....And I’m terrified of sharing my mate with someone.

-Seeing Connor and Carmen happy together should make me happy, if we’re mates. But I’m still…jealous.

-I’m not sure what I am right now, I didn’t want her, than then…I did.

-I hate the way they’re talking about us like it’s just a matter of time before we fully claim Carmen.

-It reminded me of how little choice I have in this whole matter, and that bothers me all over again.

-I remembered all my reservations and felt trapped by my lack of choice.
After multiple tequila shots, a first date the men take Carmen on turns into an oral sex fest. Brady was so apprehensive, and it was very hard to read. At one point, with his mate Connor at his back and Carmen giving him a somewhat unwanted bj, Connor whispers that maybe Brady should just close his eyes and feel it. “Just experience her as she enjoys you.” Read like rape to me.

Soon after that the o-mighty-Alpha-Omega bonding/mating drive kicks in and everyone is one big happy family. This “romance” felt like an unequal power struggle. I understand why people thought this book was hot and steamy. It does have some really hot sex scenes, but the underlying message wasn’t a positive one.

Brady and Connor should have been left as a bonded alpha-male couple. Carmen should have been paired with a single alpha. Absolutely didn’t work for me as a menage.

I appreciated the author’s note at the end. Sounds like she really struggled to write this story and she tried to make the poly relationship realistic.

An emotionally heartbreaking journey of love, acceptance, and choices
*****
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 3 flames
Genre: MMF / Omegaverse / Dystopian Romance / Shifters
*****
Brady, Brady, Brady... I genuinely expected Connor to steal my heart, but it was the beautifully broken Brady who completely owned my heart. My emotions completely synced with his during this book; when he was hurt, I hurt; when he was angry, I was angry, and when he was happy… you get the idea.

Brady was raised in a devout household and has never really embraced his sexuality, and, out of fear, he has kept his relationship with Connor a secret all these years. Fear that his pack may reject him... fear things will change... fear of losing Connor his mate.

Connor is the jovial Alpha always ready with a joke or prank... until he enters the bedroom, that is. Connor lets his alpha flag fly high in the boudoir, and it's so sexy! He and Brady are happy & content mates, even if they aren't completely open to the pack… and then they meet Carmen.

Carmen has struggled her entire life, she grew up in foster care and never felt she was safe, loved, cared for… never felt she had choices. So finally, she is taking her life in her own hands and she leaves New York to find a quiet secluded place where she can be safe. Except the place she picks is near the Alpha Compound and she is about to come face to face with one of the Awakened.

Once again I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see how this would all end and what an ending it was… I admit that I struggled with Carmen being added to the Brady/Connor relationship. I understand they all belong together because fate and all…my brain says “The three of them were meant to be together” but my heart says “Brady and Connor were good together." In the end I embraced the trio, but it was hard for me to let Carmen in.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and I cannot wait for Jude and Griz’s book! I definitely recommend this book and series

Trust me what I say this book is HOT!!!

Great job on another amazing story! Out of all the books you’ve written, and I’ve read them all, this is by far the most emotional and complex! This is remarkable.

I love your portrayal of Connor and Brady’s relationship, even before Carmen. It wasn’t an afterthought just to move the story along. This is one of the best “bi-awakening” books I’ve read. The “questioning” and conflict rang true.

I’ve read a couple of MMM and MMF in the past and the authors tend to lean toward one “pairing” over the other and I want to give you kudos for creating an equal, albeit complex, relationship. This made me want to root for their relationships, because no is left out. I love how equal it is especially towards the end.

Overall, I loved everything about this book. The steam is hot, the emotions are real, the action is exciting and the continuity of the series is solid.

Holy hawtness!!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: MMF/fated mates
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

This is the hottest book I've read - hands down! I had to say that up front since I've been reading romance my entire life and, just wow 😲. Back to the regularly scheduled review, lol.

Wide Awake is the perfect continuation of the Alpha Compound series by Anna Fury. When continue to learn more about the alpha shifters, their omegas, as well as continuing threat against them. The character development is phenomenal and you really feel connected to all of them and appreciate what makes them tick. As I mentioned before, the smexy in this book is seriously the hottest I've read and I'll share that my hubby barely survived, lol. Great storyline, great characters, and a TON of hawt smexy 🔥🔥 - what more could you ask for? I can't wait to see where Anna takes us next!

Wide Awake is the third book in the Alpha Compound series by Anna Fury. It could be read as a standalone, but best enjoyed when read in series order because of overarching story arcs. It is told in first person from multiple POVs.

Wow.

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but by far, this is the authors best book. Writing wise, I felt like it was much stronger than the two before. Which makes sense because authors will grow with each book.

The storyline was absolutely amazing. I felt like we got a lot of plot in this book, more so than the other two. Things are starting to really heat up and the compound is being forced to make impossible choices.

And if you worried there wouldn’t be as much smut because there’s more plot in this book, you’d be sadly mistaken. There us so much smut in this, I can even began to tell you how hot these scenes were!

I would like a Brady and a Connor please. I’ll also take book four.

So excited to read Jude’s story next!

Connor, Brady & Carmen

Connor and Brady have kept their relationship a secret from their pack. Brady is struggling with coming out to everyone. But things go in an entirely different direction when Carmen enters the picture. Carmen just wanted to escape the craziness happening in the city but ends up at the compound.  The chemistry between these three is so hot. With the new dynamic of their relationship and the danger lurking from the Task Force, this book kept me on my toes. So much action and steam. I loved it. I also wanted to strangle one of the alphas too because he was driving me crazy for a minute 🤣
I freaking love this compound and the entire group. Connor is a sexy goofball, Brady is a thoughtful dominant man and Carmen was bada$$!!

I don't have words for how good this book is. It checks all the boxes I want to have in people exploring poly relationships for the first time. It's also so hot my phone warning light came on so... Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

But this book, it isn't all happy times and seggsy smiles. I cried. There is real emotional pain here and it's well written. There isn't an emotion that isn't covered in this book. Don't think that means it was a kitchen sink book either... Everything that went into this book came well timed and written so that you can enjoy it.

Read the series from the beginning. You can't just skip to this book. That's not a bad thing.

Super hot. I haven't read any MMF romance before and I clearly need to read more. I love the Alpha Compound series. Anna Fury does a great job developing compelling and likable characters while balancing the drama and world building of this dystopian world. I'm hooked and can't wait for the next book.

This is a really hard review to write. I find myself conflicted.
I think this is maybe a 3.5* rating for me.

I love this series. And the characters are wonderful. The stories keep me flicking through the pages like there's no tomorrow.

HOWEVER, Brady in particular, wanders too far adrift of his character in this book, for me.
He was the calm, sweet-natured psychologist. But a darker, violent, insensitive man is unleashed in this story - one I'm not entirely comfortable with.

And Connor turns out to be bi, which I think the pack alphas would take issue with, given his closeness to their omegas.

The thing is, I loved their existing relationship. In my heart, I hoped they'd both just feel comfortable being more public with it. That journey would've given me all the feels.
However, an omega lands in their lives. She's an amazing woman, that being said - her story arc is intriguing.

I love a good polyamorous plot, but maybe there's an alternative pairing I would've chosen for that?

As I've come to expect with these packs, there's plenty of angst, trepidation and hot bedroom action.

So yeah, I liked it, but I didn't love it in the way I wanted to.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

If I did not love Anna Fury so much, I would send her a bill for ruined underwear, excessive water use, and boxes of tissues.

I had thought that Wake Up Alpha, Book Two of The Alpha Compound series, destroyed me, but apparently Wide Awake, Book Three, came to ask the previous books to hold its beer.

The book picks up where the second one left off. The compound is recovering from the Task Force attack. Our heroes Brady and Connor are trying to help wherever they can, but Brady bears the burden of helping the compound residents mentally as the resident therapist and Connor still has a serious and lingering eye injury. They are also trying to figure out how to tell their brothers about their relationship.

Meanwhile, Carmen just got evicted and decided to find one of the abandoned vacation homes up north. After she gets hurt, Connor and Brady end up bringing her back to the compound.

The three main characters bring on so much wonderful but heart-aching angst, and I am all over it. They bring such relatable trepidations, fears, hope, and, most importantly, love to the table, and Anna Fury does a fantastic job of creating a wonderful and thoughtful representation of a triad relationship. Her care for making sure there was an equal balance of love and attention among the three projected so well in the story.

I love that each character in this book and in this series bring unique personalities, experiences, and perspectives. I want Connor to be my best friend; he's so easygoing but fiercely protective. I even light up when he smiles in the story; his joy is just that infectious. Broody Brady just makes you want to hug him for all of the pain and worries he keeps in his head and heart. And sassy Carmen. I adore fearless women who are not afraid to fight for what they want, and Anna writes the best of them.

And the spice. Oh, the spice. If you just read this book for nothing but the steamy moments, it would be so worth it. I would not recommend it because you would be missing out on a phenomenal story with amazing world-building, but if that's your jam, you will still get a wonderful, fulfilling experience.

I cannot stop recommending this series, and this book is no different. I have started my countdown to Book Four, because this series just makes you want to crave more moments with these wonderful characters.

Title: Wide Awake
Author: Anna Fury
Genre: Omegaverse
Spice: 🥵 yes
Series: Alpha Compound, book 3

Thoughts - Y’all I cannot with how much this story had me sweating when they were only teasing each other. Seriously! You think the MM is everything but then the edging and then the MMF hits and bam, you’re pregnant. The last 15% had me on edge! Sweating but in a different way 😅 special mention to the power play the three of them have. It is next level. Absolutely series recommend!!

Plot - Connor and Brady have kept their relationship under wraps, they don’t need an omega because they have already found there mate. Right? You definitely can’t have a shared mate… right…*insert Carmen here 😂

* Found Family
* Alpha/omega
* Dystopian
* Shifter
* That spice 🌶️
* MM, MMF

“Lie down, honey,” he soothes. “We’ll take care of you, but be a good girl for me and relax.”

Bright future

With each new book added to this series, a new complexity is revealed in the story of this dystopian Omegaverse. In this book, we get a whole story on the cuties that were introduced in earlier books, Brady and Connor. Brady is the reserved and compassionate therapist of the group, while Connor is the more easygoing and gregarious one.

What we didn't know was the depth of their relationship with one another, their passion and love for one another. But when woman literally stumbles into their life everything changes. The seer of the pack has a vision that says change is in the air and their relationship the way it is, is just not meant to be. In order to gain the strength of the Alpha and save the pack, they must try to forge ahead with the bond that is growing with the little omega they saved in the woods. Despite the hunger burning within them for her, can they set aside their doubts and jealousies for a possible future together?

Another hit

I really have enjoyed this series! This one is super hot and the storyline is heating up.
The things:
-This one if MMF. So Connor and Brady have been a thing and are mates without this pack. Carmen ends up being their omega and it’s some hotness
-Omegaverse/ shifters. 2 alphas and a omega. The omegas here are humans. They are only turned omega when they are near/find their alpha Mate.
-Here we learn a lot more about what’s happening with side characters and the overall series arc. We see Jude and Griz more. We see Mal and her brother. We see trouble for Alice and Mitchell.
-Each story could be a standalone as each is a diff couples story but the whole series has an overall storyline of the task force trying to capture these alphas and take their omegas so I’d read them all.
-The heat in this book was 🔥 okurrrttt? I mean lord all the biting and throat grabbing and Brady dominated Carmen and Connor dominated Brady. Lord it was HAWT!
-written so well
-The Alphas are protective in the normal shifter/ that’s my omega way but it’s not OTT or anything but I loved how devoted they are to their bonds
-A bit of reluctance on the going from MM to MMF for Brady. He has a bit of a hard time but he comes around.
-We learn more about this world with the history we get from the other packs and stuff.
-Super excited for the next book and I better see some babies soon! Lol.
-No drama, besides just them becoming a threesome and Carmen trying to accept her place with alphas, and Brady learning to share Connor and accept Carmen.
-HEA

Have really loved this series and this book really ended well for me. This has got to be the best omegaverse I’ve read just because it’s different and written so good to me.

Ok, so as usual, ANY book by Anna Fury has me needing a fan and assistance from my BOB because that ish is HOTTTTTTT.

This book? It was om FIREEEE!!! We had some sexyyyyy af MMF action that had me drooling all over myself. Connor and Brady's chemistry and banter? Off the charts. Carmen's banter with each off her mens? STILL off the charts. The wit and humour is AMAZING.

Now originally because Brady and Connor were in an established relationship before Carmen came into their lives, there's worries of cheating and infidelity by one or any of the parties, right? But NOPE!! The author handled it SOOOOO WELL that I didn't feel like there was any miscommunication or that either of them were left behind IN ANY WAY. This was a MMF book that other books should strive to be like.

By the time they're all fully bonded I'm already so invested in their relationship! So much individual AND throuple growth.

Plus the action! As usual with this series, I can never figure out what's gonna go down until it ACTUALLY DOES! This book is gonna have you on the edge of your seat for the whole ride and then actually pulls it off in the end.

I 100% recommend this book!!! *chef's kiss*

Oh My Holy Heart Stealing Hotness!

Prepare your heart and cold shower because things are about to get a whole lot angsty and steamy up in here.

Brady and Connor are fated mates who have managed to keep their relationship a secret from the pack. The connection between these two is strong, sweet, soul deep and thigh squeezing steamy.
But...
When Carmen enters their world will three become a crowd? Or will three form an unbreakable downright steamy bond?
Each of these characters owned me. Connor is the sweet and sexy class clown that will have you laughing and swooning. Brady squeezed my heart. Due to his previous life he is more reserved about his current situation and life. And yes while there was a time or two I wanted to give him a friendly shake up gosh this dominant alpha had me swooning and completely rooting for him from the very start.
And Carmen our Omega heroine I looovveedddd (even if I am a little jealous of her 😉😂). She is strong, a little sassy, understanding and fits perfectly and beautifully with Brady and Connor.
In Wide Awake not only do these three need to navigate their new bond and relationship dynamic, but with the Task Force still breathing down their neck they must watch their backs and be ready to fight and protect themselves and those they love.
I absolutely adored this journey. It was suspenseful, action packed, steamy, swoon-worthy, and had some perfectly placed humour.
I can't get enough of this Alpha Compound and the 'Pack.' The continuing plot has me nervous but most importantly so excited for the rest of this series. And that sneak peek of Book 4 oh god how I need it.
I Highly Recommend this read and entire series!!!

I have always liked a good sandwich, but this is top notch! While I am still partial to Pen from the last book in the series, Carmen is pretty badass in her own right. Connor and Brady were smoking hot too…to be honest the entire book was on fire ..

With any MMF or poly romance I always worry about someone being singled out or the third wheel, especially if part of the triad was pre-existing. But Anna did a beautiful job showing the growth of each character and the struggles they are working to overcome. Also, can we can an AMEN for authors who write consent and verbalizing feelings in an open and honest manner?! Anna BODIED this between Brody and Carmen especially and it was awesome.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOKS IN THE SERIES. This series is fantastic…READ IT PLEASE!

wow! Just wow!!

Absolutely loved getting Connor and Brady’s ( and Carmen) story as they are two male alphas who are mated but hiding their love from the other alphas. This book gave me all the feels. It was a coming out book, am I enough book, love is love book, and a “…love is a bucket…”book. All the MMF smut you can handle, action, intrigue, and secrets revealed and uncovered. I cannot wait for the next book!!

This is the story of Carmen, Brady and Conner. Book 3 of a series--and I recommend you read them in order. Anna Fury has a profound skill for bringing characters to life. This story is mostly about our trio's exploration their bond but also infuses the over arching plot line of the series. We see beloved characters from previous books.

Carmen grew up in foster care. Her story brought me to tears several times. She leaves the city to carve out a better life for herself. As she settles into an area, she encounters Conner. He's an alpha and over the past few years everyone believes alphas are to be feared. She isn't sure if she wants to stay but he is certain he is drawn to her. He brings Brady to see her but they find her injured. They bring her to the compound and Brady's angst creates challenges. Will the three bond? Will Carmen decide to move on from the compound? Read the story!

In the background, we continue to learn about the Task Force and the mysterious female alpha. We learn more about Pen's dad's pack as well. This story line has so many interesting twists and turns. It's an omegaverse with Anna's own little tweaks that make it extra.

DNF.

Stopped reading after they got Carmen home and Pen spilled the omega story all over her. Why would you let some random stranger in on the inner workings of your pack? Specially a few days after getting invaded?

Didn't like the way the m/m couple immediately get retconned into bisexuals, then one was a repressed, closeted bisexual (the psychiatrist, even), and then when they started noticing Carmen, go and suppress that attraction because "I have a mate", like straight monogamous guys. Probably to manufacture drama before everyone works their ish out and then there are plenty of holes to go around. And magical Omega Vagina will probably give them powers that their same-sex bond cannot access.

Book 3 in this dytopian omegaverse series, following Connor, Brady (both of whom we've seen already in the earlier books), and Carmen, a totally badass FMC.

This book was really the entire package -
☕ SO much angst omg
⭐ And following the angst, a full set of sweet fluffy moments between the three of them

☕ A lot of talks about choice and consent, this was just brilliant

☕ a totally badass heroine, I can't stress enough about this

☕ So many amazing revelations about the dystopian world? Like it was surprise after surprise, imo the way this series slowly transitioned from a contemporary omegaverse to a contemporary fantasy-ish omegaverse is so insanely cool

Oh and also
⭐⭐ Griz-Jude angst (book 4 is gonna make us all cry, I'm already on the brink 😂)

⭐⭐ Mitchell-Alice angst (oh book 5 is also gonna make us cry)

⭐⭐ a couple of surprising characters where I was like *jaw drop* and then *scream internally*

So overall, this book was really perfect. And wholesome 🤍

Kinda meh but not too bad

This book definitely delved into agency and consent but I just...wasn't a thousand percent on board. Maybe because it was a third person joining an established mating? Idk but I didn't feel like I got enough time with the characters to fully connect with them like how I did with the first 2 books. There was also minimal progression until the end really. I'm going to continue this series but this one has been my least favorite. It's still an ok read tho. Tons of spice

I wanted to like this more but in the end, while this was a bit of a long book, there wasn’t more than “instinct” bringing this throuple together and the actual love felt underdeveloped. Dare I say too much angst? Also there was too much emphasis on characters not being 100% on board with something the other character wanted but still doing it anyway and then not enjoying it in the end. I understand compromise and whatnot but enthusiasm is way WAY more fun and sexy.

This was fine.
