A tragic road traffic accident leaves two young drivers dead. A doctor who happens to be driving the same road manages to revive one of them, but which one? Is it Mark Walker, an ex-soldier invalided out of the army and now trying to earn a living despite his injuries. Or is it Justin Lench, a successful dealer in stocks and shares, millionaire, and outright womaniser.

Justin is the one who is rushed to hospital; his chances of survival are slim but still infinitely better than Mark whose destination is the mortuary. However, at the point of revival the unimaginable occurs. Somehow there is a switch, and it is Mark who survives but how is that possible?

Jane, a young pharmacist working at the hospital is the first person to unravel why Justin has the memories of a soldier injured in Afghanistan. She alone works with Justin to help him understand just what has happened. Despite having special powers, herself, has she bitten off more than she can chew?

Although born in Birmingham in the Midlands I have lived in Gloucestershire for the past thirty years. I applied for redundancy following 25 years as a teaching assistant in a rural Gloucestershire school. I had already started writing my debut novel First Breath before finishing work and completed the writing in 2012. The book was published in August 2012. Since then I have penned a further three novels and a collection of short stories. All have been published as e books and most as traditional books as well. Two of the e books were later re-published as one traditional novel. All my novels are in the fantasy romance genre. My collection of short stories are multiple genre. My writing has been influenced by many authors from H.G. Wells to Laini Taylor. As well as fantasy romance I enjoy reading Historical, sci fi and contemporary books.
My books are: First Breath...
Malchediel-Warrior Angel...
Amy-Nephilim Freedom Fighter...
Do Androids Dream?...
Purgatory...
Wings Unfurled.
I am 45,000 words into my latest book as yet untitled.

Switched by Maureen Turner is a love story, with a fascinating narrative that ventures into the genre of the paranormal, specifically, the realm of ghosts and spirits. Turner is an excellent writer, well equipped to take her readers beyond the normal boundaries of the physical world.

Whenever an author takes me beyond the physical world and into an “undiscovered country,” my interest is instantly piqued. Of course, I am reminded of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and his great soliloquy, when he states, “But that the dread of something after death / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / No traveler returns, puzzles the will / And makes us rather bear those ills we have / Than fly to others that we know not of.”

In Switched, following an automobile accident, and the deaths of Justin Lench and Mark Walker, Turner describes how their spirits come to accept their situation, and to accept the necessity of moving on. For one of the spirits, “moving on” means moving on with life, and for the other, it means moving on into the undiscovered country, a heaven, a hell, or a purgatory.

The switch, however, occurs when Mark’s spirit enters Justin’s body, as it is being resuscitated by a doctor on the scene and later the paramedics. In a comatose state in the ICU of St. George’s Hospital, Justin Lench, now possessed with the spirit of Mark Walker, eventually becomes conscious and speaks out to Jane, a young pharmacist, who has two extraordinary skills. First, she is a telepath, and second, she is a witch, with powers she had inherited from her mother. Using her powers, she comes to Mark’s assistance, helping him to understand and eventually accept his new life situation. However, the spirit of Justin Lench, also known as Jay, is more than bewildered and flummoxed. He is, in fact, an angry spirit, who wants to take his life back and who wants his revenge. The rising conflict, between the spirits of Justin (Mark Walker) and Jay, gradually escalates, as the narrative unfolds, until it explodes in a fierce row, both physically and spiritually, between two combatants.

I am sure that you will find Turner’s resolution to the conflict to be more than satisfying. You will find it not only practical, but bittersweet, which clearly mirrors life. Because the narrative of Switch goes beyond the normal boundaries of the physical world and ventures into the spiritual, the supernatural, the preternatural, or the paranormal, and accomplishes its mission, which is to enlighten and entertain, I highly recommend this book to all readers.

Maureen Turner’s fantasy romance novel Switched begins with a quiet, unsettling intensity. For weeks following a deadly car accident, a young man named Justin has been confined to a bed in the ICU. He is trapped in a comatose state, but his consciousness is now aware that something is terribly wrong. Immobile and unable to communicate in the usual ways, all he can do at first is send out desperate thoughts of his need for someone to hear him. Finally, someone does. It’s Jane, a young woman who works in the hospital pharmacy. And to the young man’s great good fortune as he begins his recovery, Jane has gifts the average human being does not, which help her to understand that “Justin” is not who everyone thinks he is.

Thus begins this appealing book, which is both an engaging love story and the tale of a ghost bent on vengeance. Turner has chosen the first-person point of view, with chapters alternating between her three principal characters and each character’s distinct voice skillfully maintained throughout. All her characters are believable, and the protagonists are highly relatable. She knows them intimately, and before long, so do her readers, which gives Switched an immersive depth. This kept me turning the pages to see what came next, while also asking myself how I would try to cope with the situations she describes.

The book’s ending is pure perfection. By the time I arrived there, I had no idea what to expect. The author had kept me guessing, and parts of it took me completely by surprise. Some were so moving they brought tears to my eyes. But ultimately, I could not have asked for a more satisfactory conclusion. From her inspired idea, Maureen Turner has spun an irresistible story. With the current state of the world’s affairs, Switched is exactly the sort of book I wanted to read, as comforting as a warm hug. I loved it.

Maureen Turner has a great talent for writing fantasy. I’ve read several of her books and am always impressed by how rapidly I’m drawn into each cleverly constructed plot and the exploits of well-drawn characters.

As the title of this book suggests, it involves the switching of souls following an horrific car crash which results in the deaths of both drivers. A doctor driving past the scene manages to revive one of the men, but doesn’t succeed in reaching the other before it’s too late. The survivor is rushed to the hospital, but as he’s recovering, it becomes evident that something is very wrong. Why was everyone referring to him by a name that wasn’t his?

Through a secret power of her own, Jane, a young pharmacist delivering drugs to the ward, becomes involved with the patient’s plight and soon realises that, somehow, a ‘switch’ has occurred. Concerned for his welfare, Jane helps him understand how such an extraordinary thing could have happened and promises to help him face the future as a different person, with all that involved. His former life was over.

But is it the ultra-rich playboy, Justin Lench, who now faces a relatively impoverished life as Mark Walker, or disabled army veteran, Mark, who now faces a future life of prosperity and ease? And will Jane reveal the full extent of her power? Find out by reading the book.

Great characterisation and dialogue with a fantastic plot, make this another hit for me from Maureen Turner.

There’s something about a book narrated by a ghost that gives a narrative a special charm…but one that’s told by a man who died but has returned in someone else’s body, a telepathic witch, as well as a ghost—and you’ve got SWITCHED! This fabulous and fast paced tale is full of great tension, and, as if that isn’t enough, it's also a (weirdly) credible love story. I found it easy to suspend disbelief and let the tellers of this unique tale teleport me to their unique perspectives. What a wonderful fantasy! Looking forward to reading more titles by Turner!

The reverse S in the covers title caught my attention first.

What a story I just couldn't stop turning those pages to find out what was to come next. I love the books of this author and this one certainly did not disappoint either.

Great character's as usual with a strong suggestion of magic thrown into the mix. Well worth checking out.

You die and then what? Is it all over? Is there a heaven or a hell? But 'Switched' by Maureen Turner offers a different perspective. What if instead of dying, instead of becoming a ghost you find yourself in another man's body, living his life? You still have your own memories, but you have lost everything else. Maureen explores the confusion, guilt and gratitude of the protagonist beautifully. It is a complex tale told really well and makes you want to go down the path to know how it will all end,

If you like stories with a supernatural twist, stories that explore life altering circumstances than Switched is a perfect read. The characters are well drafted and believable, the plot is twisty yet never confusing and there is a surprise. I love twists and bombshells.

Having read 'Switched' I can say that Maureen Turner is a master in crafting immersive fantasy tales that captivate readers from the start.
In this book, titled to hint at its premise, a life-altering car crash leads to a perplexing soul-swapping event. While one driver is resuscitated by a passing doctor, the other is lost forever. As the survivor grapples with his inexplicable situation, Jane, a pharmacist with her own secrets, becomes involved. She realizes a baffling 'switch' has taken place and vows to help him navigate his new life as a completely different person.
This narrative is a testament to Turner's storytelling prowess, with meticulous character development and engaging dialogue intertwined within a riveting plot. I am looking forward to reading more books by Maureen Turner.
Highly recommended!
