Friends, but it's giving MORE
Rj and Niecy's love story was a lot calmer than Sime and Ari's and I appreciated the differences. In fact the stories didn't feel similar at all and I respect that the author showed range.
Rj was in his early 30s and was living what he thought was his best life. He was single, free to do as he pleased, self employed with a bomb business and he was secure in the fact that he was that dude. He never really cared or wanted to be more with a woman until Niecy. From the moment he met her, he knew she was different. He however didn't think he had the capacity to be what she deserved, so he tried to keep her at arms length, well in his mind.
Niecy was smart, beautiful, bold, and confident. She was in her mid 20s and was working to complete her master's degree. She had a bright future and she wanted RJ in it. She was immediately attracted to him, but they were not on the same page. Rj was giving wishy washy, with the mixed signals he was throwing out. They seemed to be very in tune with each other. Their connection was easy, but also confusing to Niecy. I completely understood why she wanted distance, because for him to be older he was in fact playing.
Once they moved past the bs. I enjoyed their evolution. I think that Rjs hesitancy actually helped them in the long run because their friendship was the backbone of their relationship and you could tell they genuinely liked each other.
This was a quick read and I fully enjoyed it.
