The last thing Amelia Kennington wants is to participate in the London Season. But the daughter of a duke is not afforded such opinions. She must put forth a subdued facade, but beneath it is a well-hidden fire that surfaces only when provoked—such as when an overly familiar gentleman startles her and she falls into the Serpentine.
Edward Drayton, the Earl of Norwich, has gained a reputation as Society’s most decorated rake. And while there are benefits to such a reputation, it no longer gives him the satisfaction it once did. This Season, he plans to find a wife—except she seems to find him instead. And she is nothing like he expected.
Scandal is inevitable following Edward and Amelia’s ill-conceived meeting, forcing them to marry. Amelia’s disdain for this man she hardly knows is more than clear, and Edward’s pride is wounded before their marriage has even truly begun. Yet, against all odds, the two slowly let their guard down, discovering the truth of who they married. But when Society gossip, a sister’s jealousy, and long-held secrets threaten their budding relationship, the unlikely couple must determine if their unconventional love is strong enough to withstand the opposition they face.
Karen Thornell grew up reading when she should have been sleeping, but it wasn't until 2019 that she started writing. Tired of ending books and saying 'goodbye' to beloved characters, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters that lived in her head always. It was probably a mark of sleep deprivation that she wanted people living in her head, but the idea was planted regardless.
Karen lives in Utah with her husband and kids. When not writing contemporary or regency romance, she spends her free time doing endless loads of laundry, playing board games, and, yes, talking to those characters in her head.

This is an unmarked sequel to To Marry an Earl and that's obvious in the prologue. The hero to this one is all bitter that he lost the girl in that story. So I'm abandoning this on the theory that I want that backstory. But I'm a little pissy about authors not marking sequels/series so I'm not being proactive about it and may not. So this note is for future me in case this crosses my path again.
This was good, really good in fact. I haven’t read but one other of Karen Thornell’s books and I knew I would enjoy this but she exceeded my expectations. This one is going into my favorites clean romance list. Great writing with engaging scenes made up of beautiful life struggles that cement their love to each other. Things I loved: • how they met • Edward • their laughter • the kisses • HEA I was smiling and gave this book a big hug when I finished. Wonderful, satisfying read. I highly recommend this one. Thanks Covenant Communications via NetGalley.
Oh, my. Karen Thornell has done it again! I absolutely LOVED this book! It may just be my new favorite book of hers. She has the way of writing characters that leap off the page - they are so vibrant and so fun and I have all feels when reading her books!
Poor endearing, bumbling Edward. 😂 He reminds me a bit of the Jonquil brothers (if you have read Sarah Eden). Nice guy with good intentions but a complete idiot when it comes to love. And Amelia was so perfect for him!
This was such a fun twist on the marriage of convenience trope and watching Edward and Amelia fall in love was such a happy sigh. And wow, that first kiss was just 😍😍. Who knew piano benches could be so romantic?
Every book needs a villain you love to hate and Edith played that role quite nicely. Is it normal to want to slap her while reading? Asking for a friend.
Karen's books just keep getting better and better and this book is the perfect example of why she will always be an auto-read author for me. 5 stars for this sleep-stealer!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

Lady Amelia Kennington does not want to marry let alone participate in the upcoming Season. As a duke’s daughter she must and bear the criticism of her two sisters. Safe in the confines of the country, she was content with her life and situation. Now being thrust into London, a place that is so unfamiliar to her, she is slowly trying to come to terms with the way things are done…and at the scrutiny of her sisters. She is not happy about her prospect of marriage as she harbors a secret where no man may want her as his bride.
Edward Dayton, the Earl of Norwich is very well-known to the ton. He is viewed as a despicable rake who leaves a trail of women wherever he goes and is considered a decorated rake at that. However, this Season he is bent on changing himself among his peers and changing what they think of him…hoping to find a wife to go along with the change.
Unfamiliar with London, Amelia embarks on an adventure that leaves her falling in a Serpentine, drenching wet and in the arms of Edward. A scandal is inevitable and she is forced to marry Edward at the insistence of her father, who is an unrelenting opponent to every objection the two throws at him to call of the marriage…but her father feels he is doing this for her best interest and Edward sees this to avoid the likes of unscrupulous women trying to trap him for his title and money.
What an angsty story between Edward and Amelia. I enjoyed the banter but the length Edward went through to garner the trust and love of Amelia. There were minor characters who were a very delightful addition to the story…the two Dowagers who were protectors of Edward as he coasted along in Society. There was empathy for Amelia who I believe felt like an outcast at times. She believed that no man would want her because of her childhood tragedy that has been her secret since her childhood, an older sister, Edith who throws her faults and tragedy in her face at every turn, and a father who didn’t understand her or her situation. Oh, I had so much dislike for Edith, who was just cruel and ugly throughout the story. Her dislike of Amelia was so prevalent and then there was her other sister, Henrietta who was a bit lukewarm towards Amelia but had a redeeming character in the end.
A clean regency historical romance where both Amelia and Edward slowly find trust in communicating their secrets that have ruled their lives and trust in one another to a relationship of love, despite the gossip, secrets they held from one another, and family and outside jealousy. This was such an enjoyable story by Karen Thornhill, new author to this reader. This was a well-written story with a nice HEA. Although I like a bit of heat in my HRs, this was one that really didn’t need it. Very enjoyable and look forward to reading more by this author. Recommend the read.
It always feels silly to "review" my own books, but I also love the opportunity to talk about how much I love these characters! I still enjoy flipping through the book to some of my favorite moments and scenes. It took a while to get their love story right, but I absolutely love how it turned out. I hope you will too!
First of all--this cover is gorgeous! One of my favorite that I've seen this year!
This novel was a fun arranged marriage and enemies to more love story!
Edward was an entertaining hero. He has the best of intentions, but his execution and follow through need some work. I laughed at how he bungled everything up while thinking he was nailing the "husband" thing lol. For someone who thought they knew what a woman wants, he was sadly mistaken. He was also my favorite character. Amelia was sweet and I loved her quiet strength. The flirtatious/banter bits were my favorite and I loved whenever we saw them hit their stride.
I am wondering if we will get stories for Henrietta and Edith. Henrietta grew on me throughout and Edith...well, lets just say she could use a redeeming storyline lol.
I'm excited to see what comes next from this author.
Aaaaaaa. This is a very very pleasant read!! But I will say this again, nothing despise me more than an evil family members!!!
Okay, this book? Oh God, it is filled with perfect romance. There were no flirting, as the couple prefer in teasing each other but it still does give me the flutters and I was smiling throughout reading this. The characters were perfectly developed, there was nothing awkward in this book. It didn't drag the whole story, everything fell perfectly in its place. Nothing is out of their place, it's just perfect. Splendid clean romance book! Ugh, I'm a sucker for this kind of book. I highly recommend this if you need a relaxed and not-so-serious fast read.
But if I might be bold, I hope to see Lord Berkeley and Sir Henry's book...? Heh. Jesting! But I most definitely would not refuse to see their story in your next book, Miss Thornell.
As soon as I read the blurb I said, “sign me up! Forced marriage is my jam!!! It has a mix of close proximity (also a fav), enemies (or distaste) to lovers (another fav) AND the awkward moments… oh and… watching them fall in love piece by beautiful piece!
Some of the misunderstandings had me cracking up. The two do NOT think the same way and Edwards attempts to woe Amelia are equal to a 11 year old boy. Poor guy is trying so hard but.. whew.
Amelia and Edward worked through a lot and I enjoyed how their personalities were so well done. Not only their personalities were deep but also the other characters. Each character had its place and woven in all the right places.
This is a beautiful love story that I highly recommend!
I read my first Karen Thornell book not too long ago now and immediately knew I would read anything she writes. This book was so beautiful and shows her amazing versatility of genres!
I immediately fell in love with Edward. He was a hilariously clueless “rake” 🤭 The way he kept trying and failing to woo Amelia was funny, frustrating, and endearing! Thankfully, he has a couple adoptive mothers to advise him.
Amelia was a beautiful and complex heroine. Poor thing just wanted a walk by the river... Next thing you know she’s got a disreputable, over-complimenting, new husband. 😂 I loved seeing her growth throughout the story and when she would really let her inner fire out.
Once Edward & Amelia finally got through the initial awkwardness that comes with a marriage of convenience, the story really took off! I won’t lie, the lack of communication sometimes was frustrating but it was all very much worth it! Their chemistry was top notch. The near kisses were agonizingly WONDERFUL! That darn Coombs and his interrupting self! 🤣 Seeing these two scarred individuals find a true home in each other was so satisfying! 💛
I also loved how much music was so apart of the story. A lot of my favorite scenes were around the piano 😍 (Makes me wish I was still playing…) The description of the music was just perfect. Really made me able to imagine how it sounded.
As for the villain of the story… Another reviewer said it best when she said she wanted an Ever After “punch the evil sister in the face” moment. Technically she said that about the secondary villain but both of them really deserved it. 😂 I’m not a violent person. But, I would give both of them two sound slaps 👋🏻🫢
Since this was my first regency of Karen’s I didn’t recognize the characters from To Marry an Earl. So I guess I better go read that then, huh? 😉
Extra parts I loved: The River dunking The *facepalm* compliments & pet names Flower in hair moment 🌸 Dining table fire 🔥 Henrietta 💚 Edward’s daily residency outside the music room door 🚪 Breakfast together The musicale! 🎼🎶 The piano lesson 😍🎹 The “heroine gets very sick/injured” trope Lady Cromwell & Lady Anderson (I seriously kept imagining “You are not your scars.” The epilogue 🥰
*I was honored to be apart of Karen Thornell’s ARC team! I received a digital copy from the author. All opinions and thoughts are genuine and my own.*
"Edward and Amelia" is a romance set in 1813 in England. It wasn't realistic historically nor did the characters act realistically. For example, even though it hadn't worked for any woman before them, woman after woman kept trying to trap Edward into marriage by getting in compromising situations with him only to have their reputations ruined. The eldest sister declared she wanted to marry a man with a high title but then actively worked to ruin the chances of happiness not only for her sisters but for herself by spreading scandalous rumors that would reflect poorly on her family. The friend who helped start the rumors clung to Edward at a public ball while flirting with him yet somehow everyone felt this shamed Amelia and gossiped about her instead of the flirt. These characters' actions made no sense.
Actually, the story didn't start off too bad. Edward didn't listen well because he was certain he knew what women liked. When Amelia said she didn't want to plan a dinner party, he basically told her that of course she would enjoy it and made her do it. When Amelia told him that she didn't like flattery, he eventually listened. Amelia refused to believe anyone would desire her because of her scars and because her family treated her so poorly. Edward slowly started to listen and open up.
But things got more and more absurd and nonsensical in order to keep them apart. Women kept visiting Edward in the evenings, but he didn't explain who they were or introduce them. Edward kept complimenting every woman he encountered (in front of his wife!) in an attempt to make them leave him alone. He wrote to the women that he'd ruined to apologize and left their letters on his desk where Amelia saw that he was still writing to these women. After weeks of marriage, Amelia received dozens of letters from "women ruined by Edward" within a few hours and yet she didn't suspect that they weren't genuine. She literally refused to listen to her husband try to explain the truth behind his reputation. The author's efforts to keep them apart due to misunderstandings just became absurd. Frustratingly absurd. Not a satisfying read.
There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Marriage of convenience trope is stretched to include a young woman, Lady Amelia Kennington, youngest daughter of the Duke of Stafford, who found herself forced to marry a stranger she’d met whilst investigating the cries of a child along the banks of the Serpentine River. Said young lady should not have been unchaperoned in the park without a maid, and should not have spoken alone to a gentleman who turned out to be the much vaunted rake, Edward Drayton, the Earl of Norwich. Falling into the waters of the Serpentine didn’t help, although really that was more Edward’s fault. So public a place and so damning when they were caught by other members of polite society. The young woman is more a Cinderella figure with very superior twin sisters (stand-ins for the ugly sisters) and a father who has no patience with her (wicked step mother equivalent). Of course this is only half the story but the couple coming to an understanding after the wheat has been sorted from the chafe, including Amelia and Edwards personal trials and tribulations, and the scandals and viciousness that surrounds the couple. I must admit to being frustrated on occasion by both characters, and the attempted excuses that neither had good role models for marriage became somewhat lame. I also become quite cross with the bullying Amelia received from her sisters, Edith in particular. I kept wanting Amelia to face Edith down. Alas, I’m not sure that even occurred. Still love triumphs, albeit awkwardly.
I was able to read an early copy of this book and it is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. I love Amelia's fire and sweetness and Edward's teasing and growth as a character. There is banter and chemistry and moments that leap from the page and make you swoon. Thornell has such a beautiful way of crafting sentences in a regency novel that I adore. Her characters are all likable, witty, and relatable, which makes the story that much more fun to read. Loved it!
Edward and Amelia is about a forced marriage between two people who don't seem to belong together with an overtone of enemies to lovers because who wants to be forced to marry someone they just met. Amelia and Edward have the most awkward and funny first meeting, but because people happen to come upon them soon after the incident, and Edward has a less than stellar reputation, Amelia's reputation is sure to be ruined so Amelia's father has them marry quickly. It's not quite the way to start off a marriage.
Amelia would rather have been shipped off to her family's country estate and become a spinster than marry Edward, whom she didn't know; she'd only just met him. All she knew were the rumors all around town about all the young women he'd "ruined". Edward makes a plan to win over Amelia but, despite his reputation, the poor man is quite clueless about women and it made me wonder how these two would ever get together.
I love the person Amelia is when she's with Edward--the submissive girl she is around her family disappears and the true Amelia emerges. The one who loves to play the piano, the fiesty one with the witty remarks. Edward's first attempts at wooing Amelia were hilarious but he drove me crazy because he wouldn't clear up the rumors about his reputation with Amelia. They'd made so much progress but then the rumors almost destroyed it because he hadn't told her the truth yet.
I loved watching these two develop feelings for each other and fall in love. Each of them had emotional scars that needed healing and I loved watching them help each other do that. Amelia's oldest sister, Edith is truly the world's worst sister and though she was punished, I feel she didn't get the comeuppance she truly deserved.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I listen to the audiobook & it enjoyed it between heavier reads.
If you enjoy.. ◇Slow Burn Romance ◇Cinderella retellings ◇Closed Door Romance ◇Marriage first then dating
My only con is a personal trope that I'm not a fan of the miscommunication one.

Loved this one! I love marriage of convenience and this one was so good! Definitely lots of drama and Amelia’s sister was evil but I loved how it all unfolded and there was so much closure at the end. Edward had a lot to figure out and was clueless at times but he was a great MC. Amelia was tender hearted but fiery and I liked getting her backstory and see how she came into her own by the end. Such a fun regency. Highly recommend!!
Thornell's best so far! I genuinely love being an observer as an author grows and becomes better at their craft and I've been blessed to have a front row seat to Karen Thornell's career. I love seeing her personality on the pages and becoming better acquainted with the characters she creates. Amelia is caught in a compromising situation with a renowned rake, Lord Norwich, and they are forced to wed. For a known take, Lord Norwich is really quite clueless in how to woo and court a woman and that creates some pretty humorous situations. Amelia is so tucked inside her own shell that it's challenging to get to know her until a bit later in the book, but once her personality comes out, she truly shines. As they try to navigate the scandal surrounding them, the hints of attraction growing between them, and the secrets in their pasta, the relationship they build is both sweet and satisfying!
Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for my e-arc of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
What a darling story! I've wondered what it would be like to be put in a situation where a mere encounter with a member of the opposite gender results in a marriage to save a reputation and the hilarious first meet ends just that way.
I felt like Amelia was a Regency Cinderella, stuck with impossible rude and arrogant sisters and a clueless, widowed father, but Edward is a very unlikely Prince Charming. His bumbling ways, delivering what he assumes a woman wants, only served to push him further from Amelia's graces. I loved how fearless she was towards him and how determined he was towards her.
This charming story may have started as a marriage of convenience and a case of misguided opinions, but it quickly grew into much, much more. I loved uncovered the secret facets of each character and watching a beautiful tale unfold.
Content: mild romance; mild moments of mistreatment
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
A forced marriage, two very different people, rumors running rampant…what more could you want in a regency novel? I loved the contrast in personalities between Edward and Amelia. They were so different and I wondered if their marriage would ever work. Thornell really had me by the heartstrings in this story. I didn’t know how Amelia could endure everything thrown her way. I was starting to wonder if she would ever have anything good happen to her. The slow build relationship and romance was perfection. The beauty of finding out who truly loves you was brilliant. This is an absolute must read for regency fans. Edward and Amelia will have you crying one moment and laughing the next. Thornell knows how to do it all! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love being a cheer leader for Karen’s books. She is a talented writer and each book gets better! I loved this marriage of convenience and the meet cute. ❤️ The tension, budding chemistry and emotion was 👌🏼
Edward and Amelia had a lot to deal with and being thrown together wasn’t helpful. Then throw in a dysfunctional family, Society and rumors and scandals - it’s no wonder why you would want to scream, hit something, faint or run to the country. 😅 Through it all Amelia was brave, Edward confronted his fears and the possibility of love to bloom made for a sweet story.
This book mentions “To Marry An Earl” characters but it can be read as a stand alone. This book was a nice chunky regency which made me happy! It kept my interest and I loved cheering for Amelia.
Thank you for the publisher and Net Galley for the e-arc copy and for the paperback arc from the author to read. These are my own thoughts and opinions. This book comes out next week!
I loved this book so much! Karen Thornell does such a great job writing her characters, and her plots. Her books always leave me wanting more.
Amelia…I loved the way she was. She simply wanted to avoid having her sisters and her father censure her for every little thing she did wrong. And she did a lot of things she shouldn’t do. But that wasn’t her fault, not completely. Her family had left her alone much of her growing up years. She felt unseen and uncared for. And her sisters, wow, they were not nice to her. At. All.
Edward was such a complicated character. He appears to be a scoundrel, ruining young women almost as fast as he can. But his care for his valet and his valet’s family make that seem wrong. I loved the way he and Amelia meet. And are compromised so they must marry.
For much of the book, Edward and Amelia are married. And the reader gets to see their love story. I loved the gradual way they grew to care for each other. They had so many ups and downs, misunderstandings and others trying to mess up their relationship. I loved every bit of it!
This is one you really need to read!
I was sent an e-copy of Edward and Amelia as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Edward and Amelia is a lovely sophomore novel by Karen Thornell. I can see ways that she has fine-tuned her writing. The dialogue sparkles, the emotions ring with truth, and the interactions between are two leads are endearing, maddening (in a fun way), and filled with romantic tension. The story is one of a marriage of convenience, but Thornell puts a spin on it that made it unique for me. Perhaps it’s the way that they became engaged and married, which is a humorous scene in and of itself but one with serious consequences.
Amelia hides scars behind her high necked gowns, but more than just the physical, she also holds scars from a childhood largely ignored by her sisters and father. She has a scathing wit and a tough exterior that is determined to keep up its walls. Edward has his own reasons for clinging to his poor reputation, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he’s a bit clueless, which does grate on the nerves a bit. I loved his stand-in aunties that helped him along the way, especially when they finally took him to task for it. The romance is quite tender and breathless, but of course, always tasteful. The chemistry between them is so engaging and sweet, especially those scenes in the music room, a place that is at the center of both of their hearts.
And, oh my goodness, the villain in this story is so icky. I do wish for a bit more depth from her character (as in why was she so completely awful), but if ever there is a character that one would love to hate, this is her! So kudos to Thornell for creating such a strong reaction in me towards a fictional character.
Other things I loved – Amelia’s biting wit. Edward’s “charming” endearments. A timely butler. The music room and especially the piano bench. I enjoyed this Regency romance, and it’s definitely my favorite by Thornell so far. I’m eager to see what she comes up with in the Regency world next.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher; a positive review was not required, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Karen Thornell is definitely a favorite author! Whether she’s writing contemporary or Regency, her heartfelt characters really shine through. I loved this story of two endearingly flawed people battling with scars, both physical and mental. It’s a forced marriage, reformed rake, slow burn romance with a pretty despicable villain. I had such a hard time putting this one down!
I adored Edward! His reputation is awful and he’s blamed for the ruination of many young ladies whether deserved or not. But, he’s finally determined to marry and settle down. When forced to marry Lady Amelia, he desperately wants to make it work. The poor guy has the best intensions, but goes about wooing Amelia in all the wrong ways. Without good parental role models, he struggles. Thank heavens he has two enjoyable biddies who try to guide him in the process.
As the Duke of Stafford’s youngest daughter, Amelia is constantly criticized for her behavior and appearance, especially by her sister Edith. Since her mother’s death, she feels forgotten and unloved. The scars hidden beneath high necklines are often a source of ridicule and embarrassment. She’s made to feel worthless until Edward comes along. With his flowery compliments and pet names, she can hardly take him seriously. She guards her secrets and erects her walls determined not to love him. As she gets to know Edward, she begins to let her guard down, but is he still the rake Society’s deemed him?
The banter was delicious. Amelia is so cowed when she’s with her family, but her fiery personality comes out around Edward. The romance was amazing. I loved those near kisses (darn Coombs the interrupting butler) and touches on the hand. The piano lesson bench scene was my favorite. At times, I wanted to shake the two! When they finally communicate, it’s obvious they’re perfect for each other.
Edith was horrid. She’s so mean to Amelia and her jealous tactics are awful. She’s a villain you want to see get her comeuppance. Yet, the author manages to make her a little sympathetic at the end.
This is definitely a favorite read! The great characters, storyline, and witty dialogue had me quickly turning those pages. If you love clean, Regency romance, this is for you! Can’t wait to read more of Karen’s books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author and publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 4 1/2 stars/5
This is a tough review for me, I wanted to like this book more than I did. In the forced marriage trope I find the two parties can either be like, well, we didn't want this, but let's try to make the best of it, or they can be angry and determined to be miserable. Unfortunately I found this book went the latter direction too much. Particularly with Amelia who, in my opinion, seemed set on believing the absolute worst of Edward, taking the word of complete strangers and bullies over his. Amelia irritated me, and for the majority of the book, I frankly thought Edward could have done better, and yet he made a mull of things? Too much blame was put on his shoulders. I don't know, perhaps I'm wrong, but Amelia's assumptions of her husband's character just rubbed me the wrong way. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the writing, there isn't, and I'd certainly read the author again, I simply took issue with character choices, but that's me, others will probably love this more than I did. I received an ARC from the publisher via netgalley for an honest review
I absolutely adored this book from the first to last page. Edward and Amelia were two interesting and fascinating main characters with multiple layers. I have to thank Karen for writing a book that kept me up way too late, a story that I love, and for creating one of the most disliked villains I’ve read in a long time. I genuinely enjoyed the experience of reading this book. There only reason it’s not five stars is because I felt like the problems between Edward and Amelia could have been resolved faster. A romance book that has miscommunication between the two main characters can be typical, but I just wish that Edward would have been more upfront and Amelia could have given him the benefit of the doubt more. Other than that I completely loved this sweet regency romance and I highly recommend it to any historical romance reader. I am so excited to see what comes next from Karen.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to leave a positive review.
I tried so hard to like this book but in the end it just was such a frustrating read. I was really looking forward to a historical regency romance with forced marriage but this was such a convoluted story line that I couldn’t pay attention properly. To start, there was little to no chemistry between the characters. In fact they didn’t even kiss until well after 60% into the book. And that is the most you will get from them. It didn’t feel like a slow burn because there was never any tension between them. And it felt like the author tried to hard to keep them apart. After one misunderstanding there would be another and then another. And to top it off, it was wholly unrealistic according to history and society at that time.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgally for a copy of this in exchange for my honest opinion, unfortunately this story was not for me.
As I don’t want to give any spoilers, I’ll keep this short. I LOVED this book! Soo great! I had to re-read the prologue before I realized I already knew Edward and then I was even more excited to read this book. The surprises and twists and emotion in this book are fabulous. Not to mention the various relationships which were shown to be weak and strong. No one is perfect and relationships take work. This was told wonderfully and I would very much recommend reading this book!!!
Redemption romance stories are some of my favorite and I felt this was a great story that showed a man who truly wanted to change. Would the circumstances that Edward Drayton finds himself in allow him the chance he needs to prove he is more than his reputation?
The forced marriage between Edward, a rumored rake, and Amelia Kennington, was off to a rocky start and I couldn’t wait to see how it would turn out for the couple. All of Edward’s attempts at having Amelia fall in love with him were not working. Boy, am I glad he had some older women who acted as his mother to help set him straight on matters of the heart! These ladies were some of my favorite characters, providing wisdom when Edward needed it.
There were some great antagonists in the story that made Amelia have to make a choice to either believe lies that she thought were true, or choose to trust herself and her own judgement. I was cheering and clapping when they were discovered and their plans failed. It’s not said what exactly happens to those who brought near destruction to Amelia, but I sure hope they got what they deserved! I received an arc of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This was a charming story. I loved that the book made me laugh multiple times, and the brewing romance between Edward and Amelia is sure a fun one. This book really drew me in and now I will be looking for Karen's earlier book which features characters from this story. Great read/listen.
