At a glance, the dwarves and gnomes of the Horkensaft Kingdom are two peoples who are worlds apart. The former are seen as hardcore traditionalists Hell-bent on maintaining the status quo, while the latter only look ever forward and upward as they grasp at the future with both hands. And yet, these two seemingly opposing cultures serve as a counter-balance to each other, creating a civilization that draws upon the wisdom of the past to face new challenges. Whether that is actually the case or mere propaganda will soon to be put to the test, as they are about to receive a visit from the Hero of Chaos. The enigmatic herald of change has already fostered a well-deserved reputation for setting things in motion by their presence, and only time will tell if the Kingdom of the stout-folk will survive the impending transition.
Though, once again, Boxxy doesn't actually care what ripples it causes. It isn't there to upset society or challenge the stagnant culture of all-work-no-play. Its goal is to track down an errant treasure that escaped its grasp while it was out of commission, and maybe secure some new pieces for its ever-growing collection along the way. Before it has a chance to, however, it must first deal with a significant issue that threatens to undo much of its work since its arrival in Azurvale. It is a challenge unlike any it has faced, and not one that it can hope to solve easily through force and violence. The limits of Boxxy's patience and self-control are about to be tested, as it looks desperately for a way... to leave the house.
I was a bit disappointed that it took a year to get this book to come out, but im still happy never the less. I finished this book and less than 12 hours, however I did read it almost nonstop. The sheer absurdity of how Boxxy T. Morningwood accomplishes he's goals is just so entertaining. It was a long wait for this 1 but it's just as good as the previous ones
While the book is fun and exciting, it ended without any real progression in the main arc. Felt more like half a book for this reason. Still worth a read/listen.
SBT Do a fantastic job bringing the story to life, as always.
A fine little self contained adventure about an ice dungeon and a frozen dwarven settlement. But decidedly a side quest... or even filler arc. Much like the last book, Goroth is the title character but doesn't see much screen time, weirdly Mortimer makes more of an appearance in this one than the one with his name on it.
I give this novel a 5/5 because once again Neven delivers a fantastic read of the adventures of my favorite LitRPG murder hobo and the undisputed hero of chaos. While this could be a standalone novel one could pick up if they have never experienced the earlier book, It is my opinion that Neven has used his love for both gaming and experience as a programmer and created a finely balanced world that calls to all of our inner nerdy geeky selves. Yes it is perverted, and strange and not for the faint of heart, but for those looking for something a bit different then look no further. I'd also suggest checking the earlier novels, for they are a very tasty reads themselves. It also might help the reader to truly understand hero of Timmy and marmalade, Nevels unique sense of humor, and how Boxxy gives death the finger all the while chasing his favorite shiny north on another bumbling adventure.
My Rating System: 5- Perfect for my taste, I could not physically stop reading/listening and wanted more afterward. 4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterward. 3- I enjoyed the book and could see others loving it, I need to think if I want more. 2- I can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more. 1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for, but definitely not for me).
[Audiobook Version]
This series is not for the faint of heart. The series contains multiple graphic scenes that are explicit in detail and can be quite upsetting to many, to say the least. You have been warned.
Boxy is back and feeling upset that he has to repair the damage done after his death. Now is a treasure hunt, dungeon rebuilding, dungeon exploring and minion finding adventure with some gods and mass murders mixed in.
Some books, series, films and franchises get old and boring only to become the thing you hate. This however is fucking amazing and I never want it to end.
4.5 stars. The last 3 books have been a nice change of pace from the early books. Teresa, Mortimer and Goroth have allowed for the characters to grow and even though there was a bit of throwback to the early books with boxy and his demons leveling up and going to a dungeon, there was a whole new feel to it with how powerful they were. I am glad at the end they addressed his luck level to explain just how insane his skill is and how it affects everything he does, on top of the hero of chaos stuff.

It's been a minute since I read the previous volume, so I spent the first few chapters wondering what was going on. There is no "Previously on.." part. I would say this was an average entry into the series. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't particularly ground breaking. I might even say it was a little repetitive. Boxxy and company are on a quest for something, some naughty jokes are told, some meta-gaming observations are made, and our anti-heroes succeed (?) I'm hoping the next one is better. It was good enough that I'm going to read the next one, so it has that going for it at least.
I truly love that this world has solid logic as to why there exists many of insane things that come with a RPG world. Not may fantasy books try to, let alone succeed in that.
There were a number of "chekhov guns" that never got there conclusion, and I particularly had hoped for more experiments with spells and abilities as that is another point I love about the series.
Better than the last book but still not nearly up to the standard of books 4/5. This series is at its best when it sets up massive climaxes which blend humor and lampoons of the usual fantasy tropes. But this book is a fairly standard dungeon run. It's funny enough, you won't be bored listening to it, but it's not anything close to the massive battles and clever writing we've seen from the series so far.
Another book down and it was as we're the others even better than the last. More often a long series starts to taper off and sometimes seems to forget what has come before. This wonderful adventure keeps getting better each time and I can't wait to be along for the next wild and tasty tale of the greatest Hero of all time Boxxy T Morningwood and his Demon mates. Cheers. May all your shinies remain so.
While very enjoyable, much like the other books in the series, feels a bit like filler despite some major things happening. I think this mainly comes from the initial drive (to get Fizzy) doesnt get resolved and instead seems to fall to the side and isnt resolved in any way. Still really good craic though and the war crime machine that is Boxxy is never not fun.
Also major props to Soundbooth Theatre who are also amazing in the audiobook version.

I love the character growth. I love the gods. I love how it feels like an RPG, especially the insanely wild ones I played in years ago. I love the main character staying true to his malevolent self yet still growing. I want more and more, of all of them. Damn, this is FUN!
I realize that I have found one more series to add to my small collection of most loved series of all time. Riftwar saga by Feist, Discworld by Pratchett, Portals of Infinity by Van Stry, and now Boxxy the Murder Hobo by Iliev! The story continues to draw my undivided attention each time, I love it!
Story is good. Pretty much the same experience as the previous, although not a lot of overall plot progress.
I'm not a fan of the audiobook sound effects (the theatre part of sound booth theatre). The constant background ambience makes it more difficult to hear the narrator and don't really add to the experience. Am unsure if I will continue the audiobooks.
Boxxy and his depleted entorage go in search of Fizzy, and do their usual unsubtle best at getting the job done, monsters get mangled, treasures are found and deities watch it live on the Boxxy show
I do really love this series it's a great switch from the traditional where they take everything a bit too seriously this is crude funny and weird all at the same time. the only problem I have with this story is the music can be a bit loud and the TV sound at the end of the epilogue was rough.
I felt the story start to drag here a little bit...too much time was devoted to figt scenes, which were not that interesting, especially when it was just the side characters fighting. Still fun, but I do hope the next book will progress a bit more again :)
I highly recommend this book and series. Neven bro can you speed up the writing a bit without sacrificing quality because I need more of this much more.
