Aidyn Blackburn is a human, fighting in a dragon's world. He's had one mission since his mother died ten years before... Find the dragon responsible for killing her and make him pay. He's spent the last decade learning to fight dragons and bouncing around from dragon cune to dragon cune, searching for any information he can find.
He didn't expect to find something else when he ventured into the territory of the the Valen Cune. Specifically, he didn't expect to find Dux, their leader. When his attempts at strong-arming information out of the man doesn't work, his slightly... softer approach backfires on both of them. Nothing changes a destiny faster than a baby.
But just because they're having a child together, doesn't mean Dux wants him to stay, right? This isn't a damn fairytale. Oh, and what about Aidyn's revenge? And how the hell is he supposed to keep a diaper on a kid that can shift from human to dragon and back in the span of a sneeze?
A dragon killed Aidyn's mother causing him to want revenge for her death. Dux is the leader of his area when they meet there's instant attraction. After a kiss Dux know he is his Flame also know as a mate. After a baby, meeting parents and lots of love Dux gives Aidyn a gift which is his mothers killer.
Dnf 63%. I honestly didn't get a good feeling about this book from the blurb and page count, but I loved the cover so much I gave it a shot. The problem with doing that is you can't see the cover while you read (though the chapter logos were also pretty).
The random time jumps with no warning pushed me to my DNF breaking point. Near the end of a chapter, readers were told that 3 weeks had passed without us realizing, and apparently nothing worth mentioning happened in that time, which means the MC was apparently fine with ignoring his vendetta for 3 weeks while he apparently did nothing more than have sex. In that chapter, we find out he's carrying an egg, and in the next chapter it's just casually mentioned that he carried the egg in the past and the egg is now out of his body. This time we don't even know how long the time skip was because no one ever said how long it takes to carry a dragon egg. So we have another large chunk of time in which apparently nothing at all interesting happened while the human MC carried and laid a dragon egg for the first time in his life. I found that hard to believe.
I also really disliked the MC. I love sarcastic and tough MCs, but this guy came across more as one of the bullies he claims to hate. He's selfish and rude and thinks he's better than everyone else. He also joked with his dragon lover about making a pair of dragon skin boots out of a different dragon--which just seemed, at the very least, tacky. I mean, the MC probably would have been pissed if his dragon lover talked about wearing human skin, but apparently this MC is perfect and can do whatever he wants.
Fluffy, romantic, violent, dragon and mpreg. What more could you want!!!
I enjoyed this new serie. It's a lot more violent as a series while keeping the romantic side. I love it. Fluffy, violent, dragon and mpreg; what more could you want!
I took off one star because honestly the point of putting all those dragons as witnesses in the last scene was to prove his point and I would have liked to know their opinion on this.
The blurb suggested an attempt at betrayal, manipulation for information and goodbye with a broken heart. But it's not that at all. Yes, there is a great desire for revenge, but much of the book is about their story, the romance, the adaptation of a human who enters the clan with one of the greatest positions, the Tribute flame. A position that could put the Tribute in danger if it were any other human than this one. This one will have to prove his place and induce fear to prove his point that he is just as dangerous as a dragon.
I like this new world. The thing is that I was more invested with the few times Laet was on page up to the 70 %ile. I didn't connect to the couple and their love up to this point. We were told a lot but not shown. The only thoughts we were "shown" were of how they wanted to be together and touch each other. It felt as if they weren't communicating at all, didn't do anything beyond the bedroom. So when they told each other their I love yous I couldn't really connect. I only started to get a "feel" for them after Aidyn "birthed" the egg. What I appreciated was that Aidyn didn't fall for some people trying to make him doubt his relationship with his dragon and actually saying if they truly thought that he wouldn't just go and talk to his dragon and just presume that they were telling the truth.
Well, I hope to be pleasantly surprised with the next one - Laets story.
I should have read the free short story from the Prolific Works giveaway before reading this book. Unlike some authors, Light doesn't spend paragraphs reintroducing characters; you've either read the previous offering. Or just soldier on. This is a new world. New rules. Not as lighthearted as the WTF stories. Aidyn is borderline (or maybe not so borderline) psychotic. But his Dragon mate , Dux, likes him anyway. For me, Aidyn switches gears too fast. He goes from stabbing dragons to "Oh, I'm so happy to be pregnant". Maybe it's the book's length. Light is a quick read; maybe there wasn't much room for angst and handwringing. Still, it was enjoyable.
This is an interesting spin on dragon shifters. Aidyn is trying to track down the dragon that killed is mother. His next target for information is Dux, leader of the Valen Cune. But trying to get the answers he wants has Aidyn finding much more than he bargained for. There were a lot of fun steamy moments and a ton of attitude and snark. I loved that the shifter's mate is called their Flame. I also liked that the dragon shifter can cause their human mate's body to adapt to become pregnant.
Got to love dragons and the humans who fall for them and know how to handle them!
Duc couldn't believe a human actually got the drop on him. Aiden was primed and ready for questions. All it takes is one kiss and things can change forever whether you want them to or not. But surprisingly enough sometimes those changes can bring a happily ever after. This was a good story it was fun to read the characters were cute and lively definitely worth reading. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
I loved this new series! This is such a neat world that the author has built; the idea that a human is living their life unaware that there is a dragon out there for them until their dragon’s kiss ignites their “flame” is such a unique and sweet idea. Dux has met his perfect match in Aidyn, a human unlike any that Dux has met before. This story was sweet and sexy and I look forward to more great books in this series in the future.
Cute and short. It would have liked it to be a bit longer and to show the development of their relationship because I struggled to understand how Aydin went from fiercely independent and on a revenge mission to "sweet, I guess I'll just settle down here" in what felt like a couple of hours. But I really liked Aydin and thought the gift Dux got him at the end was really romantic. Maybe I'm messed up.
What a wonderful new world JD has created. So different from her Chosen series, but with the same snark and endearing characters. Aidyn, so headstrong and fierce in his desire for vengeance, unexpectedly finds love in the arms of Dux, leader of a dragon cune, who is more than willing to help Aidyn quench his desire in more ways than one. This book is a great start to an amazing new series.
Really enjoyed the story and can't wait to read more. I really hope Graves and Laet are next! I wished the Ruse/Belo storyline would have been wrapped up before the epilogue and that the epilogue would have been used for a look at the next book or further into their future. That's my only complaint. Otherwise, I loved it all.
This was a exciting story. The storyline was hot and full of adventure. In this story Dux is a dragon and Aidyn is look to a dragon lucky its not Dux he wants to kill they are perfectly matched and they get a wonderful ending if not a little messy. Can’t wait for more.
Aidyn is human, but he spent his youth learning to kill dragons to avenge his mother's death. He's snarky and violent, and if I met him, I'd stay far away. His mate/flame thinks that's sexy, somehow.
If that doesn't bother you, you'll love this story because it's funny and hot and a little kinky.
This book was definitely fascinating. I loved watching how Aidyn fell in love with his dragon flame, Dux. I appreciated how strong and tough Aidyn was since he was only a human who was out for revenge and received everything he could have ever wanted. The writing was well done with a nice smooth pace. Loved it.
True to JD Light, 𝘌𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 is shaping up to be a creative and high energy series!! 𝘚𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥 is a quick but complete read, with a sweet and funny storyline that’s of course twisted around some sad/angst on both MCs sides.
Very well written, and I’m excited to read more of these new chara ty& Cunes!!
I read the prequel and was super excited about this book and it didn’t disappoint! A fast, hot, steamy, sexy story with a bit of suspense. I want Graves and Leat’s book!!
Awesome world building, fun, snarky, and quirky characters, DRAGONS! All my favorites, and with that signature J.D. Light touch. I look forward to reading more of this world. Dux and Aidyn were a perfect way to start!
Great books . straight to the point plot great, just enough detail to make plot great without to much unnecessary details. Have loved all her books. Looking forward to more in future.
I already was loving this from the prequel story. This first book just solidified my feelings there. So far these stories have that enviable ability to be short but still show case complete stories with a great cast of characters. I even know who I’m hoping is next.
Overall I enjoyed this book. The book had some confusing points that don’t really get explained or make sense. It almost felt like it was missing something or needed to be fleshed out more. Other sections, however, were really good.
This book is plot light but cuteness and fluff heavy. Centered on the relationship and showing off moments between the two MC’s rather than an actual story. While I normally dislike this immensely this story manages to be short enough to be able to pull it off.
I’m loving this new series. The first book is definitely making me ready for the next book in the series. Aidyn is fabulous & Dux is so sweet. The background characters are intriguing & I hope they all get a story. I’d definitely recommend this series.
This is a joyous, fast- paced story. It starts out as a routine revenge saga that quickly evolves into a love story. It is a new take on dragons. I fell in love with the characters. Even the minor ones were well thought out. As Dux is Tribute of his sure, his schedule doesn't permit much free time. Finding that the human who keeps breaking into his bedroom is his Flame is a shock to the system. Aidyn is out to avenge his mother's death. His attraction to Dux is as immediately intense as it is inevitable. You are going to enjoy them coming together, having really hot sex, and discovering that sometimes love can overcome the need for revenge. Yes, there are two clueless dragons, an overprotective one, and a and human carrier with a penchant for very sharp knives. Sit back and enjoy this wonderful romp. Get. It. Now!
The story was a mess. Too fast-paced to connect to any character or develop any relatoionship. There's certainly an art to writing good short stories; this was not it.
