If you love small towns, endearing relationships, food, animals, and a touch of murder, you will love this mystery series set in the small town of White Eagle Montana.
Tess and Tony are busy preparing for the annual Spring Fling, an event designed to both ring in the tourism season and welcome the end of cold temperatures and drifting snow, when a man with a mission sends Tess a letter detailing an odd but intriguing request. It seems that years ago, Simon Baldwin, one of twelve members of a secret society, identified fifteen cold case murders which they then took it upon themselves to solve them. They chronicled the investigation of each murder in a journal they titled: The Murder Chronicles. Of the fifteen murders, fourteen had been successfully closed by the group. One case remained unsolved and Simon, the only surviving member of the original group of twelve, is determined to solve the case before his death. Simon is a Montana native who’d heard about Tess and her success tackling this very sort of thing, so he sent her the journal and asked for her help in solving the last unsolved murder.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Ooo this was a good one. I gobbled it down in just under 2 hours and now I have to wait until September for the next book *sigh* So worth it though, this isn't a series you can just read a chapter here and there; once I start one, I have to go until I finish it.
In The Murder Chronicles, Tess is sent a package from a man named Simon requesting her help on a cold case. Back in the late 1950s, a man, Roland, created a group to investigate his brother's suspicious death. After solving that one, they picked 12 more cases to solve. Over the years, they managed to solve 11, but the last one, a case of a woman who went missing in White Eagle decades before. The last surviving member of the group, Simon has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and, weeks from death, wishes to see the case solved. Unable to resist the call of the cold case, Tess, Tony, Bree and Mike set out to solve a decades old crime - without knowing if a crime was committed or not.
Absolutely riveting case! I would've loved to hear more about the cold case group and the cases they closed, it would be a great series on its own! As for the final case, even though it was obvious from the start that the woman met with foul play, it wasn't easy to find out what happened to her, as there were few villagers who were old enough to remember that time and were still living. I enjoyed the way they pieced together the story and the reveal at the end was bittersweet and a great closure to the tragedy.
Kathi Daley has written another complex cozy mystery set in White Eagle, MT with Tess and Tony trying to solve a decades old cold case. I always enjoy visiting this small community and the residents who live there. A quickly paced plot which delves into the past of a missing person from the White Eagle area made this one even more interesting as I got to learn more about the history of White Eagle. A great afternoon read.
Oggi avevo voglia di una lettura veloce e piacevole, quindi sono andata a colpo sicuro con questa autrice. Così mi sono anche messa in pari con questa serie. Come al solito la scelta è stata buona.
The Murder Chronicles is the thirteenth book in Kathi Daley’s Tess and Tilly Cozy Mystery series. I love the wonderful, three-dimensional characters and the charming setting in this cozy mystery series. The storyline flows steadily, and the storyline is well plotted and intriguing, with plenty of twists and red herrings to keep readers engaged. I highly recommend this series to those who enjoy reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Once again, in their absence from town, the planning committee has volunteered Tess and Tony to co-chair an event to help bring tourists to White Eagle, Montana. As Tess works on some last-minute details for the town’s annual Spring Fling, she learns that the waterlines servicing the businesses along Main Street and the adjacent park where the event is supposed to take place have burst, causing problems for the business owners who sponsor the event and the potential cancellation of the event. Meanwhile, Tess receives a package from a man named Simon Baldwin, seeking her help in solving the last of twelve cold cases he and his fellow crime-solving group undertook years ago. The mystery and the man quickly captivated Tess, and she enlists the help of Tony, her brother, Officer Mike Thomas, and her best friend and Mike’s wife, Bree, as she sets out to solve the disappearance of a woman named Jessie Dogwood that occurred over sixty years ago.
I love all of this authors books, but this one was particularly fascinating and just a wonderful mystery with a really hard to solve cold case that has an urgent deadline. Great characters and wonderful writing style. I can't recommend it high enough. The whole series is fantastic.
Another great book by Kathi Daley. This Author just keeps the reader wanting more.
Tess receives a letter from a man named Simon with details about murders that happened over 60 years ago. Apparently Simon, was a member of a secret society who was trying to solve fifteen cold case murders. They were able to solve all the cases except for one. Now he is the only surviving member of this society and has only months to live. He really wants this last case solved before he dies. This society put details of all of these murders in a journal they named The Murder Chronicles. Included with the letter to Tess, was also this journal, Simon had heard about Tess and her success at solving mysteries so he was enlisting her help to solve this last cold case.
It is a case of a woman who went missing in 1958. She supposedly got a call from her child's school that her son had been in a fight and she needed to come and pick him up. She didn't drive so she called her husband and told him she was going to walk to go get him. Something isn't setting right since the school is about 5 miles away and it was raining and windy. After her husband talked to her, she was never heard from again.
Tess & Tony, with the help of Mike, decide to try and solve this Mystery even though they know, everyone involved is probably dead at this point. It won't be an easy task but if anyone can solve it, it will be these three.
In addition to this cold case, Tess & Tony are also planning the Spring fling. Over at the animal clinic they had an employee who is quitting so Brady & Tess hire a new employee. There is a man in town who used to know Tess' dad and he is asking questions. Tess gets a visit from her dad. There is a lot going on in Tess' world.
If you love mysteries and you love a good cold case, like I do, then you are going to love this book in the Tess & Tilly mystery series. The author takes us on twists and turns to a final climax we didn't see coming.

I absolutely LOVED this story. It's a quick read, The Characters are great! I loved the Suspense of the story. Love the settings. I loved how it ended. I'm looking forward to the next in this series. I highly recommend reading this series and many more by this Author.
I love revisiting White Eagle with Tess and Tilly, one of Kathi Daley's cozy mystery series. This is the 13th book in the series, which I hope will go on for many more adventures!
In this book, Tess is approached by a dying man to solve a mystery which occurred many many years earlier. The man was a member of a group of friends who solved cold cases, this was the last cold case to be solved, but unfortunately all his friends had passed away and he was not long for this world.
The mystery takes Tess and Tony to California and they have to find out what happened all those years ago, with most of the major players already passed. The first thing they need to do is find out if there's a body or not.
An ongoing facet to the books is Tess's Father who leads an interesting life.
The books are all standalone mysteries but they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series. Kathi brings into the story characters from her other cozy mystery series.
If you like this series, try one of her other series, they are all equally as good.
You've heard the saying 'if you want something done, find a busy person to do it." This fits Tess and Tony. They are volunteered for major projects even when they are away doing other important things. This time they re responsible for a major town fundraiser, the Spring Fling. A huge complication happens when a main waterline breaks. Can the event be saved? The town needs those funds and tourists.
At the same time a mysterious package is delivered with clues to a very cold case crime. One final investigator is alive and needs help to solve the case before he dies. Time is running out. Tess calls on family to work together to solve a disappearance decades old.
Great mystery, not simple to solve. Lots of intertangled plot lines. Characters you'll grow attached to.
A package arrives for Tess with a cold case journal from a team of friends from 60 years ago. 11 of the 12 cases have been solved and as the last living member of the team knows he is dying, he asks Tess to look into the 12th case. Tess, Tony and Mike are up for the challenge. This is another interesting mystery with a killer you aren't expecting.
Tess and her husband Tony become involved in a cold case involving the disappearance of a young mother. By including her brother, Mike a police officer and Tony's exceptional computer skills, the cold case begins to unravel as they track down some of the key players. Will they be able to solve the case or will it stay ice cold? A quick, intriguing mystery that I was able to read in one day. Kathi Daley continues to entertain with her cozy mysteries.
Love the Tess and Tilly series. As always, good investigative work on Tess and Tony’s part, and appearances of Tess’ ‘deceased’ father. This mystery is different for them as they are looking into a old cold case mystery that was never thoroughly investigated. There was always something not right about the disappearance of a woman and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. So they do their best to solve it while being entrenched in the Spring Festival. Keeps you glued to the book until the end!
Another wonderful installment with Tess, Tilly, and Tony. I love these later books, seeing the relationships between the main characters and growing family. Another intriguing mystery is presented and solved by the group and some great glimpses into the continuing mystery with Tess's Dad. Just Fabulous!!
I loved following this group from year to year and through all their escapades! Deep family connections and long-term friendships. However, I really would have liked to see what happened with Tess and her new dog that she got for search and rescue. That aspect was never fully explored beyond the one s & r she was involved with.
Tess has a different live now. Tilly is still in the storyline but doesn't have a major role anymore. Tess now married to Tony, the Series title could be change to Tess and Tony. It was a good plot. Left unanswered why did Mom want a big birthday party.
What do you have when you put two old journals, several trips by land and air, a artist, sixty years along with having elderly people as well as some not so elderly people enter your life? A great story by a fantastic storyteller! Grab a coffee and comfy chair you will love it.
Always a great story with a mystery at its center. This time a very cold case from the past. And on the periphery more on Tess’s Dad and a connection with the Zoe Donovan series which has many similarities to this one. But both are enjoyable cozy mysteries with a bit of tension and usually a satisfactory resolution.
But its a really story if you just take things as they are, I like this author , maybe some of the books are kind of shallow but she writes a lot of different series
Another Tess and Tilly Mystery that doesn't disappoint. Tess gets caught up with an old cold case and has her computer savy husband to help her along with her sheriff brother and his wife. Her dad even makes a brief appearance. Very enjoyable read.
A surprising delivery for Tess leads to the newest investigation in Tony, Mike, and Tess's life. Several parallel plot lines keep us up-to-date with some of the regular series characters. Who is the man around town asking after their father?
This series keeps getting better and better. The only thing I don’t like is that everyone expects Tony to pay for everything, if Tess’ Mom wanted a lavish party she should at least ask before. But Tony is a sweet generous man. On to the next one.
