Kristen loves to write just as much as she loves to read. For years, she’s imagined wonderful characters and exciting storylines, just waiting, waiting to be brought to life. Now that her children are a little older, she has the time to enjoy her passion for writing and is putting pen to paper, giving life to her characters and stories.

Kristen resides in Sydney, Australia with her husband Robby, and three very energetic, young children. She loves nothing more than spending time with her family or sitting down with a slice of vegemite toast, a good cup of coffee and writing the next exciting chapter for her characters.

"In this world filled with darkness, be the light."

Kyra, kick ass light Princess, has been living a double life on earth for over 300 years fighting demons from the Prince of Darkness. During the day, she works on a construction site in Sydney, by night she's fighting ferocious and fearsome minions. Things change suddenly when she meets her friends date, Duncan, and the fireworks between them set off a chain of events Kyra never saw coming.

Conflictus is a fantastic name for this debut indie book. The conflict in battles, in affairs of the heart, and within friendships is ever present in this relatively fast paced fantasy novel. There is def some romantic insta-love (that car boot scene was pretty spicy va-voom), but it mostly is a pent up vibe as they struggle with their desires, and with the job they must complete. Duncan has an alpha vibe, which sometimes irked me (the feminist in me was like uh uh get em Kyra). The symmetry between worlds is cool - kind of multiverse vibes. While I prefer my fantasy in third person, I think Dovnik has done a good job capturing the complex balancing act Kyra must live - a character that seems to have been kept in the dark somewhat about the whole truth. I feel like she may be a little naïve for my preferences, as I think I know where this book is going, but, it ends on a hell of a cliff-hanger, so guess I'll be reading the next book "Contentment" to see what happens next.

"Fate will have to wait … but I feel that’s going to be easier said than done I’m afraid."

I received this from Forever Lost Books for an honest review.

Kristen gifted me an ARC of her debut novel, Conflictus, and I couldn’t be more honored to have the first look at MC, Kyra’s journey. As a new author, Kristen brings together a very intriguing storyline that interplays and personifies, light and dark.

I really liked how she provided a great backstory to the MC, as I am personally a character-driven reader. I enjoyed the fact that there was various proses touched on, romance, war, and character growth.

The story was a more “tell you” rather than “show you” – however, I feel that this will develop as the story continues. I am very excited for Kristen and I look forward to seeing what she produces next.

I enjoyed this story.

I love a light verse darkness theme.

Having the princess of light and the prince of darkness, of course enemies makes for a good story for me.

I enjoyed the concept of this story and the different worlds.

I’m excited to see what’s next!

Definitely recommend!!

Kyra is the Princes of Light, she has been raised to fight the forces of Darkness and ultimately, the Prince of Darkness to protect Earth and The Sun.

Kyra meets her friends new boyfriend and feels an instant and undeniable attraction. Something she has never faced before.

Then Kyra is fighting a hoard of three-headed dogs and is bitten by one. Suddenly her healing abilities are gone and, no-one knows why but if they don’t figure it out soon, Kyra could die.

Characters: 6.5/10 I did like Kyra and Duncan was OK if weirdly controlling over someone he’s known for a handful of days. The whole ‘mate’ thing created an ‘insta love’ that I am really not fond of. I also didn’t like Kyra’s friend. She gets hysterical when dumped after one date *eye roll*.

Atmosphere: 5/10 I really like the symmetry with Kyra’s world and Earth. I liked the addition of fairies and mythological creatures. However, this book was so short and felt like it jumped from action scene to action scene and, in a Fantasy book like this, I really need more filling in between those action scenes. This filling allows for world-building and character development that can really make a fantasy series like this epic.

Writing: 6/10 This is a good debut book. If more had been done for world-building and character development, I like to think that there would have been less ‘insta-love’. There was also the odd instance of a word in the middle of a sentence being in the wrong tense, misspelt or grammatically incorrect. I am keen to read the next book in the series but would like to see a bigger book that’s much more fleshed out. The kinky dream was so well written! I loved it.

Plot: 8/10 I quite liked the plot from beginning to end. The concept is brilliant.

Intrigue: 5/10 So, there is this thing, where no-one actually knows who the Prince of Darkness is or have even seen what he looks like. This is because each time the Prince or Princess dies, they are re-born with none of their previous memories. The last time the Prince died was also the same day Kyra died and, the Prince has not revealed himself since and the Elders (Kyra’s guides) either can not or will not explain why they died at the same time. I figured out immediately why this is and, I think it’s supposed to be a massive reveal in a later book, but it’s quite frankly already more than obvious.

Logic: 5/10 Insta-love is not logical and not easily explained away by the concept of mates. I don’t mind books that have the whole mate thing going on provided that the people involved do not instantly fall in love the second they discover the mate bond.

Enjoyment: 7/10 I don’t know what I can say that I haven’t said already. I did enjoy reading this book, and it is a great debut from a first-time author. However, I did find certain aspects problematic, as outlined above. I’d love to see this remedied in the subsequent books. The kinky dream was extremely fun to read.

Total Score: 6.07/10

I'm totally amazed after reading this fantastic fiction. The prime character in the story is a gifted girl 'Kyra'. The book is a science fiction, Kyra is not an ordinary girl, she is blessed with amazing powers and is responsible to save the planet. As soon as she entered the world she has been told to protect the planet. Kyra is 'the princess of light' and her target is to battle wirh 'the prince of dark' and his forces. Apart from this there is a touch of romance in it. Kyra is attracted to her friend's boyfriend and this portion of love and attraction will definitely entertain you. Then one day Kyra is brutally attacked by a scary three-faced dog which made her to loose her healing powers. Now here's when you will start make predictions about the survival of Kyra and further events of the story.

I enjoyed reading this fiction. The characters are really entertaining and the addition of romance made the story even more beautiful and relatable. I really appreciate the cover of the book. The narration is smooth. Also the combination of various themes with science fiction went really well. I enjoyed the book totally and found certain scenarios highly relatable.

I recommend this book to you, this will keep you engaged and entertained as well. To the SciFi and thriller lovers, yes this is definitely for you. This is author's debut book and I felt it was amazing and I appreciate all the efforts behind the book.

Reading 'Conflictus' is quite an experience and it's from the very start of the book that its sheer, magical palette overwhelms us.
And, we are immediately aware that we are witnessing a dream. Real life, as we ingloriously witness after putting this book down, never looked this good.

Fantasy are magnified an awesome extent, every sequence coordinated to the hilt. A sweeping, breathless, gloriously overblow adventure yarn filled with marketable ingredients, from rip roaring thriller scenes, big hearted romance to cliff hanging suspense.

The plot is simple as can be : Kyra, the magnificent princess of light has to fought with the prince of dark. The book most quietly moving moment is when Kyra falls for her friend's boyfriend.
The best part of the book is description, the heavily oppressive setting. I personally thought these characters has lot of emotions and are beautifully described.

Overall with the beautifully crafted storyline, well developed characters, gripping writing style and engaging and crisp narration, it's an interesting book with many secrets.

Thumbs up
🌏-Very good and unique plot. The plot is filled with twist and turn from start till the end of the book. I loved the concept behind the book i.e. everytime a prince/princess dies they are reborn with no recollection of previous memories.
🌏- I was impressed with how the author blended many themes and genre together. Specially the inclusion of romance was such a great addition to the plot making the story more beautiful .
🌏- The sci-fi elements have been used beautifully. Healing powers and scary dogs were great. I loved the way author narrated the story. It was smooth as well as fast paced to make the readers stay and want more in the end.
🌏- The characters were well developed. I loved how their emotions were potrayed making their deeds justifiable.
🌏- I loved the cover. The cover really shows how dynamic is the environment of the world the book is set in. The title is also apt to the story

Conflictus by Kristen Dovnik is a sci-fi romance novel about Kyra.

This is a debut novel, and I think there’s a lot of creativity in Dovnik’s writing, but I couldn’t get into her story. It felt repetitive and telly to the point I didn’t feel like I was part of the story.

Dovnik shows potential, and I look forward to seeing what next she releases.

This book is a debut, as can be seen by the writing style and grammatical errors throughout. The storytelling is not as immersive as I would like it because it felt like I was being told what was happening rather than being allowed to experience it.
That being said, this did not stop me from reading because the ideas brought forth were quite compelling. I was quickly hooked by the storyline.
The plot unfolds nicely; the reader is not left confused. There is a good amount of suspense throughout and I have my suspicions about what will come of book 2, which I will be reading. The author is able to capture attention.
The things that I really enjoyed were the multiverse vibes (more of a duo-universe) - certain beings being able to go from our world into a veiled world accessible only to them. The love interest was good - the intense attraction of soulmates. I also liked the resurrection aspect of the two royals in the book.
The title is fitting, as there is much conflict - the battle between light and dark being one. I am quite curious as to how things will play out in book 2.

I was gifted a copy of the book and leave my honest opinions voluntarily.

This is a fun Urban fantasy with some steamy romance. I skipped the steamy bits as I'm not a fan.

Most of the dialogue is done well. What I caught skimming the steamy bits seemed cheesy, like a romcom. But, the main character is endearing and well developed. I'm torn as I want to know what happens next but hate having to skim the romance parts.

This is a great read for lovers of romantic fantasy!

I really enjoyed the plot of this book, very different to anything I’ve read before!
Amazed at how much Kristen was able to fit into a 200page book but she did it so well! I wish the soulmate thing was a little slower but I did enjoy the intricacies behind it, something other books with soulmates don’t really explore!

Really recommend this book and cannot wait for the second to be released!

NO SPOILERS++++

First persons are always dangerous for a writer. They must be careful to ensure the thoughts and actions are even more accurate than a typical third-person because we spend so much time in the mind of the main character. Kyra, our protagonist is relatable, despite being a Princess of Light (read to learn more). I enjoyed reading it and found the style of writing to be smooth. There we no excess chapters, although I did find subtle repetitive words here and there. It's a great debut, with the promise of more.

I liked half the side characters and disliked the other half. They were consistent which I applaud. Too many books flip-flop characters around where you can tell the author had no grasp on them. Dovnik seems to know them, and therefore like or not, we know them too. With that being said, the psychic was fun.

It's a short read, nothing that would take weeks, and definitely something I'd recommend, especially those into the female heroine trope. The author did it well!

Conflictus is the debut novel of Kristen Dovnik. Overall, I would consider it a positive entry and a good place for the author to start her career; there is clear evidence of creativity and imagination, and the characters are interesting. Additionally, Conflictus boasts an interesting premise and a well-conceived plot. Unfortunately, these strong points are dragged down by issues with pacing, prose, and a haste to 'tell' rather than to 'show'. These issues are ones that can be resolved with experience and practice, which hopefully Dovnik undertakes as her debut work is promising.
Overall, three out of five stars.

Conflictus was very intriguing starting from the title to the characters. All characters were very fun to read about I especially loved the Kyra & Willow dynamic and want to see more of them together. Though when the MC was looking for the Dark Prince it had me wanting to physically scream at Kyra that what she's looking for was in front of her eyes. But you know we can't sadly. And there is Duncan the way he was described mad he should both like a god and a heartbreaker. His character intrigued me a bit more than the others as it made me want to find out more about his past and what he truly knows about what is being kept a secret from Kyra. The storyline was amazing it has some great battle scenes I love how it showed the conflicts and struggles Kyra has when it comes to finding the prince but also protecting two worlds with her life.

As I was getting drawn into the story more I realized that there was too much to undcover starting with what was even true and who could be trusted. Just when I thought I figured out everything about who was who and was like I'm a genius I got played! The ending now has me questioning everything if I was even right about anything at all. Even so I'm still very much intrigued, confused, and want answers. And I'll be damned if I don't read the next book.

What an epic ride Conflictus was and I’m super glad I was able to start Contentment straight away because my gosh that ending was something.

Dovnik's writing style flows nicely, even though at times I did wish for a bit more description in some parts of the story there was still enough to imagine what was happening in the story and for me I find only some authors can do this. So kudos to Donvik.

I love Kyra and Duncan's relationship, I found it to be realistic and it wasn’t mushy like I thought it would have been as the book has the destined soulmate kind of trope. Without giving away too much it was a mutual understanding and realisation that they had to be in it together to make things work.

The magic element to the story was just perfect. I love the magical creatures, hidden locations, the legends and myths.

Overall a fantastic read, and I can’t wait to read the sequel.

Kyra is strong minded, determined, and fights for what she wants. She’s a tough chick with a double identity. She carefully juggles her separate lives in parallel worlds, which is pretty cool.
Her soulmate Duncan is not what I’d expected. He’s a controlling, narcissist, but he seems to truly care for Kyra, which kept me from hating him.
I liked how we continually switched between Earth and Zagoria, and I found the ladies (fairies) very cute. I also liked the bond that Kyra had with Willow.
The ending was a real surprise package!
Now I need to read book 2 to see what happens…

OMG- that ending!!!!!!!

Ok, so going back to the start, this was a fun YA novel with light vs dark and instalove tropes. Kyra is a great, compassionate leader to her people, and there is so much more to Duncan than meets the eyes. The side characters were well worked into the plot, and I'm looking forward to reading the second books because- again - OMG that ending!!!!

This was a super quick, fast paced Fae Fantasy Novella. It has the classic light vs dark trope, but also fated mates/insta love and is set in both the Fae world and the modern world. I loved the aspect that light and dark always exist and are eternally in battle with each other, but Kristen added some fun twists to it. There was some good banter, monsters, and political intrigue in this story as well. It did feel a tad rushed to me, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a fantasy novella so that was most likely a “me thing”.

I read this book as part of the ARC for the second book. I feel like this book serves mostly as a lead up to the events of the first book and an introduction of sorts. However it did feel as if some events and storylines were incomplete or cut off at times. Though it ends up making sense/ fall into place once you read the second book. I liked this book, but loved the second book.

"Fate my have brought us together, but it is up to us to make it work, and I will do everything in my power to make that a reality."

A kick arse light princess working in good old Sydney in Australia. With mystical creatures and a relam that is a parallel universe, fated mates, secrets, and action. What more could you ask for in an urban fantasy, with a little cliffhanger ending.

I loved every minute of it and can't wait to continue this story.
