A moment, thoughtless or not, where you choose wrong over right. Evil over good. You roll the dice and brace for the consequences, and that's exactly what Jolie and Carson did the day they met by mistake.
One wrong number, one simple conversation over text, and their lives as they knew it were gone.
Jolie, a miserable housewife who clings to the bottle just to get by, and Carson, a doctor who's stitched together the perfect facade to hide his failed marriage from his children and colleagues.
Loneliness consumes them both, and when they find an unlikely friend at the end of a stranger's phone number, they cling to whatever connection they can get. Neither intended to cross any lines, but then again, good people rarely intend to do bad things.
For Jolie and Carson, their key moment was fast and not at all easy. And the consequences might be even worse.
Wrong Number is a slow burn, forbidden love, age gap romance with high angst and some steamy scenes. Despite how hard you have to work to get there, HEA is guaranteed!
Emily is an east-coast Canadian thirtysomething mom of two humans and a furbaby. Her lumbersexual husband doesn’t actually work in lumber anymore, but he still wears the plaid and the beard.

This book surprised me on so many levels. Foremost, I didn't expect it to be so... gloomy I guess. And so slooooow burn. Also I couldn't stop wondering how is it possible that I couldn't relate to Jolie, like at all, but I wasn't able to stop reading about her either, and kinda liked her at some point?
So, we have two very sad, very lonely human, Carson and Jolie. Both married, both very unhappy. Carson is an ED doctor, we don't know his age exactly, but he has two teenage daughters (14,17) and a cheating wife who is a public person in some sense, and fears a scandal, so they live together, but they don't speak together and from her side the marriage is practically dead. Jolie on the other hand is 22, she's a trophy wife that spends her days drinking and smoking, she's crude and very depressed because her husband pays her no attention and the love that maybe was there sometime in he past, isn't there anymore... her friend gets a new phone, and when Jolie tries to text her, she mistakes one digit and ends up texting Carson instead. They get to talking, and then become friends... it goes on for a very long time really, they begin to confide in each other, and rely on each other, all without even knowing their names or who exactly is on the other side. They are at different stages of their lives yet they are so similar, both feeling unworthy, lonesome and miserable.
This first half of the book was really great, I even considered rate it with five stars at this point. It was fast paced, and seeing their heartache and internal struggles was quite depressive sometimes yet I couldn't put the book down and felt invested in their lives.
After they met though, the story felt rushed to me, the drama with the ex-wife unnecessary and their fight in the end - I can't help it but Jolie's reaction was out of her character imo. She was a lot of things during the book in my eyes, but immature was not one of them... I couldn't comprehend her reaction and in the end it just seemed laughable to me.
Overall it was a wonderful deep story, full of angst and raw emotions. I was impressed with Carson's relationship with his kids and I really loved the not so classical HEA in the epilogue.
This was such an interesting read. I honestly didn't think it would be as slow-burn as it was, nor did I think it would be this deep and emotional, but it was great.
What I liked about the book: 1. I liked the age gap. Some claimed "age gap" books have a 10 year age difference or so, which is fine, but to me that's not really an age gap that is crazy. As the previous 10-year-old who was going to marry the lead singer of RHCP Anthony Kiedis who is 30 years my senior, 10 doesn't really do anything for me in the taboo department.
In Wrong Number, we don't get too definite an answer on their ages (until Jolie's is revealed in the 5 years later epilogue), but we know Carson is approaching 50 and Jolie is in her early 20s. THAT my friends is age gap and I freaking love it!
2. Quick chapters!!!
3. The meet-cute is pretty damn cute, and it's totally relatable. How many times have you gotten a text from a wrong number? So many, right? What if that wrong text was the one?
4. I love how bad their lives have to get and how much they lean on each other before they find their HEA.
It's like, what is this, a damn Colleen Hoover book???
5. Characters:
- Jolie - wow, just wow. I sympathized with her for sure, but I don't think I actually liked her much. Which it's kinda crazy to me that I can feel those conflicting emotions about a character. She's that well-rounded, so great job Iris Trovao.
- Carson - Ok, this dude felt to me like he had no personality over text. That was frustrating, until I started thinking....(I know, lord help me) was he supposed to be bad at texting/conveying emotion over text because the dude is almost 50? I know that sound ageist of me, but I'm curious if that was the thought process there. Outside texting, he's better, so I really don't know what else it could be....
- Thad - I really liked Thad. He just seems like a sweetie.
- Lily - giiiiiirl, this girl is a queen! She is such a good daughter and she is so smart. She is literally the smartest one in the room most times. Happy she got her HEA!
- Janos - he is the friend Alicia should have been. He's supportive and just the best. I love that she went to work for him at the coffee shop later. Jolie should have realized he was her person instead of Alicia a looooong time ago.
- Alicia and Carson's ex-wife (I don't even remember her name, that's how much I hate her) - you both are awful and the people around you deserve better.
6. I'm not usually a fan of slow burn because I'm impatient AF, but I loved this slow burn. It felt realistic for people in this situation and it makes me happy they didn't rush like fuccbois.
7. Finally, I liked that the ending wasn't the typical HEA where they get married and have loads of babies. That definitely has it's place, but for these two, I felt their ending was perfect.
Why it didn't get a 5-stars: 1. Once they both make their life altering decisions, it time jumps essentially 9 months into the future and we lose seeing a lot of character development. For this, I can never forgive, especially in Jolie's case.
Thanks to Booksirens and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. The book comes out January 24, 2022 so not much longer to wait for this beauty!!!
This book has LITERALLY everything I adore in romance. Age gap, forbidden love, angst for days, slooooooooow burn, and all wrapped up with a HEA. The tension this author weaves throughout the story is so brilliantly done as our two main characters meet by accident through a wrong text.
Throughout the book you are CRAVING their conversation, their chemistry, and their inevitable and climactic meet up. Which, my god does the author deliver on Jolie and Carson's first meeting. It's a total simp fest, and by the end of it, I was sweating and begging them to tear each other's clothes off.
You'll fall in love with this story and these characters, laugh with them, cry with them, and probably want to rip Jolie's head off like I did at some point XD But this book is so wonderful, and as a connoisseur of the forbidden romance, this book gets five stars from me all day long!
Wrong Number had me completely hooked at the first chapter. This book was engaging, enthralling, tragic at some times and totally redemptive. It is well-written, full of detail and an exemplary story. There were a lot of ups and downs along the way, but every page of Wrong Number was worth it for the absolutely perfect conclusion.
I loved the plot and the characters. The meet cute is a great idea! Descriptions are great! Characters are well written and relatable! I loved it and read it in one afternoon.
Wrong Number by Iris Trovao was such an exciting and unconventional read. I put this book down once during a pivotal part in the story, but otherwise couldn’t stop reading!
The story begins with Jolie texting her friend, and having the message get sent to someone else. Ironically, she begins a blind relationship with this person, developing an interest solely on the conversation factor. The fact that this can exist in today’s internet day and age already tells you this is going to be a special thing between her and the person on the other line.
The buildup of her relationship with Carson is such a cute little romance mixed in with some humor. Definitely a really good slow burn kind of read with a feel good spice level (not too spicy, but just a hint!).. But like any love story, not without its trials and tribulations. Theres enough insecurity and drama to keep this book afloat until we reach a resolution. I did find that Jolie’s personality to be a bit aggravating at times but also refreshing and realistic - not every main character in a book should be sickly sweet and perfect.
The lesson of this story.. don’t hit block right away! Who knows.. you might have a handsome lonely doctor on the other line ;)

When a wrong number connects you to the one person who might understand what you’re going through.
Wrong number by Iris Trovao is the perfect age-gap romance in a digital world.
Charismatic Doctor Carson thinks he’s content living in a dead marriage and Jolie passes her days, chasing the last drops of alcohol in any bottle, while her husband avoids her at all costs.
Neither one of them is truly willing to accept their marriages might be failing until their digital guardian angel gives them a slither of hope.
More than a romance, Wrong Number is a tale of recovery in more than one sense. Falling out of love needn’t be scary, especially when you have the right person out there for you.
Carson and Jolie aren’t perfect but they are for each other. And when those two finally meet, well what can I say, it’s explosive.
The dual POV was done extremely well and Iris’s male POV is perfection. I cannot tell you how much I loved his voice, especially when it came to those steamier chapters. *chefs kiss*
If you haven’t read this book yet, what are you waiting for? You won’t be disappointed.
**FYI this is not a cheating romance despite the mention of marriage in this review.**

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book. I started out reading it in digital format, but because I'm also a member of the author's patreon, I was about halfway through it when I got a paperback copy it sent to me. Ah! It is sooo pretty! The cover was designed by Pixie Stormcrow, who just creates the most absolutely gorgeous covers.
Anyway, this book was a real treat to read. If you like angst and drama, THIS is the book for you.
To take some inventory of the drama and angst in this story, we have: -4 character hospitalizations -1 death -1 affair ending in divorce -1 unexpected pregnancy -1 media scandal -1 assault -1 blow-up that ends in two best friends barely speaking -1 bath tub on fire -1 emotional affair -1 battle with alcohol dependence
I feel like I could keep going, but I won't. This book was a lot and I loved it.
There is a significant age gap between the two main characters, so for those who like an age gap to be an AGE GAP, this is the book. I'm not entirely sure on either of their exact ages, but there seems to be more than a 20 year difference between Carson and Jolie. I'm not into age gap myself. I don't find it off-putting in books. I guess, I'd say I'm neutral on age-gaps in fiction. They don't bother me or tickle me. But I know that people who love an age gap are often like "the bigger the better," so just wanted to let people know what to expect with this one.
Gina made such a great villain. I'd actually love a spin-off in Gina's POV. She's so unlikable in this book. It would be cool to see the situation from her perspective. She cheats on her husband and throws away her marriage, only to THEN try to blow up the relationship with her baby's father and go back to the husband she cheated on. What's the matter with her?! But that's the thing...I sort of want to know what's the matter with her. She's clearly dealing with a lot of baggage and emotional issues, and yes, she acted like an absolute cunt in this book and no amount of emotional pain excuses her behavior, but I'd still love to get a peek inside her head.
Also, I loved Carson's daughters. They made the book so fun. I loved his relationship with them and their relationship with each other. I loved how accepting they were of Jolie right away.
For all of the drama and angst in this book, it has such a happy ending. It gave me all the warm and fuzzies <3
Thank you to Iris Trovao! (aka Emily Hurricane) for sending me a digital arc and then a beautiful physical copy of this book. It was such a pleasure to read :)
Wrong Number is the first book I’ve read by Emily/Iris, but it definitely will not be the last. I binged this book in TWO DAYS, and honestly I probably would’ve finished it in one if I hadn’t had work. The best thing about the book is that the characters feel real. There are no stereotypes or shadows. We get to see two characters going through troubles, being honest about how they feel (except, of course, when it comes to their feelings for each other), and find solace in a stranger.
Both of these people are at different points in their lives, yet somehow some of the struggles that they share are the same. Their coping skills may be different, but it’s clear from the moment they start talking that they need each other. It’s finding someone else to say “Hey, you aren’t crazy for feeling that way.” And while it’s definitely slow burn, they pay off feels so worth it because they wrap up (most of) their own baggage before trying with each other.
The only reason this gets 4/5 for me is the ending. I GOT SO MAD at the way Jolie acted towards Carson, and while I understand she was coping and regretted her choices. It’s a lot to take on for someone her age. But he forgave her so easily! He took more blame than I felt he should. And then instead of seeing them work out their issues and find the balance, we’re rushed off to a HEA. I just wish we could’ve seen a bit more of how they worked through these problems together.
All in all, a very good read. The perfect mix of angst and fluff!

Let me start by saying I will absolutely be recommending this book. This was my first time reading a book by Iris Trovao, I love exploring new authors but I almost didn't read Wrong Number. By the description I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. It screamed cheating which I just don't enjoy reading. BUT it's so much more than what it sounds like. A huge part the story is about the simple act of communicating and how a few words can change the course of your life. How no words can send you in a tailspin of destruction. The other part is about love and not just romantic love. It's not just about two lost souls finally finding someone who is present in their lives It's about falling out of love and letting go so you don't loose your hope. It's about the overprotective love that blooms when children stop needing us and it's time to step back before they pull away. It's about loving someone not despite their flaws and insecurities but because of them and helping them move forward. It's about learning to love the parts of you that someone told you made you unworthy of love, because the people who love you now know your worth you should to. I have voluntarily left this review.
Wrong Number is a Forbidden Romance. A delicious Age-Gap. A sweet Opposite Attactration. And glorious Slow-Burn.
Wrong Number starts out with Jolie accidentally messaging Carson thinking it's her friend's new phone number ... and thus their tentative friendship begins.
Both of them have drama going on. While my heart wept for Jolie, I absolutely relished Carson's heartache. Sorry Carson, but I delighted in Gina's chaos; was super surprised by Thad; and got all weepy with your daughters' sisterly support of one another.
It is a slow-burn of friendship turning to romance. Iris writes their messaging in such a unique way, you forget that Jolie and Carson aren't physically in the same scene. I couldn't wait until they met and when they did it was an inferno of feelings and steam.
AND FUNNY! There were so many moments I was chuckling away with these two. I loved Jolie, but Carson stole my heart the moment he got back a sense of himself and joy for life once more (thanks to Jolie) and he messaged his first emoji. Dr. Dorky McNerdface is adorable and sweet and hot.
I have a desperate weakness for books with flawed, human heroines and earnest, cinnamon-role heroes. There's just something very refreshing in today's "alpha-hole" riddled romance landscape about a hero is just... goodhearted and doing his gosh-darn best in the face of adversity.
So... let's talk about Carson. Carson is an angel from heaven. He is strong and silent without being aloof. He is confident without being arrogant. He is capitulating without being a pushover. Oh, and he's a sexy doctor, so... Anyway, Carson warmed my heart on every single page with his patience and quiet strength in the face of betrayal and hardship, and with his youthful sense of humor and joy when interacting with his children and with Jolie. Watching him find his own happiness after many years of 'just fine' just... agh. AGH.
Okay, now on to Jolie. Jolie was hella flawed. There were a couple scenes where I wanted to dive into the book, take her by the shoulders, and shake the immaturity right out of her. But as the story evolved, I realized how deliberate this was on Iris's part. Jolie is a character in which we can see ourselves at our absolute lowest and most self-destructive moments. That's what makes it so gratifying and so uplifting to watch her heal and grows. It takes a talented writer to show us a character both owning up to her flaws and learning not to punish herself at the same time. Jolie's was a beautiful transformation and for all that I want him to myself, I'm glad she found her happiness with Carson.
Oh, and finally... I'm not generally swayed by sex scenes, but uh... yeah.🔥. Many, many 🔥s
RATING: 4.5 stars. Wow, it took me a morning and afternoon of uninterrupted reading to finish Carson and Jolie's story. I couldn't put it down! It was a slow burn, age gap, angsty story and so good. If not for the one digit that was off, they would not have ever met….incredible. Both Carson and Jolie were in miserable marriages, though each dealt with their problems differently, with Carson preferring to avoid the issues and Jolie preferring to drink them away.
After the initial accidental texting, they keep texting each other for almost a year, helping each other through their big life changes. When they decide to meet up in person, things go sideways instead of smoothly.
I really liked how they supported each other through their difficult times, always through texting, never calling or meeting until almost a year after their initial contact. Even after meeting up, they both still had issues to work through.
I really loved this book and look forward to reading more of this author's work.

This is a sad emotional story with Jolie who is in her twenties and is dealing with a severely injured husband and is emotional drained. Carson is a doctor in his fifties with two daughters and a cheating wife and he is also drained trying to hide all the drama from his daughters. When Jolie text the wrong number (Caron's) they end up texting back and forth as friends but soon turns into something they both need at this time of their life.
loved it !!! what a story !!! love Carson... and Jolie... this is their story... a fast paced slow burn drama... it all started with a wrong text... and it became something more, so much more... both are lonely... in dead end relationships... Jolie is an alcoholic...Carson a doctor... they text... they fall in love... this is their story...

The book is a good, and enjoyable steamy forbidden romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Not going to lie, this was a book that I easily binged and just didn't want to put it down! It was so much fun to read, I loved the writing, and I really liked the slow build-up of angst happening! Okay, now that that little gush is done, on to the true thoughts!
This is a book I think any of my other romance fans out there will love to read! Getting ready for some heart hitting moments though. This story definitely shows the readers the realities of two different type failing marriages and the crap that life toss onto your shoulders. There are moments where you see Jolie struggle with being an alcoholic and her attempt to move past this addiction. Also, a little bit of survivors guilt - not spoiling, just warning - happening as well. Keep working thru these moments though! They show the growth that both Carson and Jolie are going through in their own situations and how they are overcoming the cards they are dealt.
It is also a GREAT slow burn that just makes your toes curl and possibly even a little giggle to slip out while you are reading. These two strangers we stumble across are to genuine individuals who, some how, find friendship over just the honesty of life. Of course, that friendship buds into much more as the weeks and months go by as well. The romance is on point!
But truly, this a such a fantastic book. It is real. It is heartfelt. It is a great story to read. Plus, it totally helps that the Doctor is super Super nice to look at!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for a voluntary honest review.
This is the story of Carson, a doctor with older teenage daughters. And Jolie, 23-year-old married housewife who was drinking herself into a dangerous pit. Both were in loveless marriages. There was no physical intimacy at all or any sort of relationship in their marriages. Jolie accidentally texted Carson, thinking it was her best friend Alicia only to find out a year later the name of the guy she was texting. It turns out that Carson and Jolie texted each other and had an emotional relationship while going through very traumatic things in their marriages. I was happy to see you at the end of the book that they each got their HEA. I was sad to see that Alicia and Jolie after five years were still trying to rebuild a tiny bit of a relationship. I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but I will say that this book had some things in it that I truly didn’t see coming and they were things that made it different from some of the other books that I’ve read. I would recommend this book.
I've read this exact storyline several times from different authors, most of them making it a comedy or even a dark romance story. None of them were as good as this book! This author managed to deep dive into dual intensely emotional situations, it takes you on a rollercoaster of feelings, while the characters battle their own issues and struggle to come together. The characters are interesting and relatable human beings, the situations are admittedly a soap opera and a half, but it's well written and a real page turner. It's a one of a kind read in a variable sea of similar options. I loved it! And I highly recommend this read for fans of... Romance, Meet Cutes, Age Gap Romance, Friends to Lovers Romance, Doctor Romance, Second Chance Romance Forbidden Love and Drama stories.
Possible Trigger Warnings: Foul Language, Addiction, Grief, Infidelity, Mention of Accidents (Both Fatal and Non Life Threatening.), Manipulation and Sex.
I enjoyed this. I’m a sucker for a accidental text/meet by text romances and when you add in the age gap I really enjoyed it. It was a really emotionally deep story for both Jolie and Carson as they both battled issues. I don’t think it’s that taboo or forbidden although you get a “being in another relationship” issue but once you read you will see why I don’t categorize it as forbidden. But overall I enjoyed a lot. I am wondering how old is Carson because I feel like I never really found out.
Wrong number is not the first book by the talented Emily S Hurricane I've read and won't be the last.
Familiar with her work, I had an idea of what is waiting for me; amazing characters, a well-paced story, original thought through plotlines, steamy moments... I was all in before I even opened the book.
Yet, she managed to absolutely disarm me. The raw emotion she dragged me through with this story left me in awe. This is so much more than a romance story. It's about self-care, self-love, healing, about the importance of cherishing and nursing your own mental health to be able to function with another human being... I am in love with the book.
Very few books managed to get me so invested in the characters and the story, I would actually feel the emotions. This book has. I don't remember the last time I cried reading a book, if ever, but this time I did. After a very long time, I read a romance story where I was genuinely interested in the main characters' lives beyond their relationship. I was so impressed with Carson's relationship with his kids. I felt every pang of pain through Jo's struggles. The story touched me in so many ways. I can't recommend this book enough.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary honest review.
Lots of angst but the build-up was SO GOOD!! The age gap was definitely a big part of the angst but honestly, there was never that much description about the characters' ages or appearances so you just got a vague sense of it.
Knocked down half a star because I found the epilogue and bonus scene to be very underwhelming. It would have been nice if the characters had expanded to photo messages or even phone calls before they met up but it added to the tension I guess lol.
slow burn forbidden romance with age gap and lots of angst-
I read this because I wanted a romance book with lots of texting, and it did have that, but I still struggled getting into it. I could see lots of people enjoying this, but I didn't really like the characters. Jolie seemed like someone I could have coffee with, but not someone's love story I want to read. IDK how to make it make sense, but it just wasn't for me.
• age gap • love @ first sight • meet cute • grey fox doctor • barista • SLOOOWWWWW BURN 🔥 • HEA
This is not my usual read, its actually too sweet for me haha, but it was still a really good read. I loved how they met, and the buildup to when they met in person. There are some tender heartfelt moments throughout the book, but nothing devastating. all in all, a good read! sweet meet-cute story!!
Started well and then the character development happened sort of off stage so to speak. Add to that some scrappy characters that were just vile human beings and a non existent plot that dragged out for 61 chapters and an abrupt ending and you have a disappointing 2 star read. Shame I had high hopes
Wrong Number By: Iris Trovao. Love it. This is a great book that have everything I like age gap, HEA. Love the writing. Couldn't put it down. This book is a slow build-up of angst.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this story of Jolie and Carson. They met in an unconditional way but yet it worked for them. Sadness for her on John’s passing. Gina and her flight of fancy. Loved their stories. Thanks for a good read.
When is a wrong number so right? In this slow-burn romance, a mistaken text to a wrong number creates a divergent path for two people. As someone who has received a wrong number text and had a bit of fun, this premise appeals to me. New-to-me author Ms. Trovao creates a beautifully messy and complicated romance between two flawed people. I loved it.
