New-to-me-author with a book cover and book blurb that drew my attention. I had a difficult time staying with this prequel to her new Deprivation Trilogy. The two main characters are thirty-two and twenty-eight -- and act like they are much younger. Both were whiney and getting over losses. I didn't find the attraction between them very compelling, and the romance was insta which doesn't appeal to me. Of course, there were hurdles to overcome but the process was boring and once again immature.
I'm sure it will work for many readers, but it just wasn't for this one.
Ava is a physicians assistant at a medical office that Mick frequents due to his medical sales job. He has to show up and get a sign off every other week and always get push off by the doctors so Ava sets a standing appointment to meet with him and take care of him. This turns into lunch dates and is just so sweet and cute. They both have this obvious instant attraction to each other but because of personal reasons take forever to act on it.
While these two are just the sweetest couple ever, that also leads them to trouble. They have pasts that leave them guarded and they don’t open themselves up to communication, Mick especially.
I love getting a totally different glimpse at the Deprivation world and seeing Ava’s life before Nick and Kat came into the picture. There are so many times I just want to scream at these two though. They clearly have their reservations but if they talked they would have zero worries and realize how perfect they are and just meant to be.
I love LM Fox’s easy writing style, makes reading her books feel like they are your friends and not just characters made up. You feel like your apart of their lives and involved in their world.
So I really liked the concept but the execution wasn’t that great. The steam and dirty talk were extremely corny. Like I actually cringed. The hero got on my nerves. Yes his past causes him to be distrustful towards women, but Ava didn’t deserve being ghosted like that. I loved that Ava stood up for herself, especially imposing that 30 day ban from Mick. Good on her. What I didn’t like about that was that she had to approach him after being ghosted. I think this was originally a novella that was expanded upon and you can tell.. so hopefully her other books will be a better reading experience. It was good in the beginning but went downhill fast.
This was a sweet story. It flowed nicely, and the angst was well done. The writing was such that the plot didn’t need bells and whistles, and that was in no way a bad thing. Easy to read and well written. LM Fox is now one of my go-to authors!
This book centers around Ava and Mick, who meet through their jobs. Mick is a former baseball player who now is a medical sales rep and Ava is his go to at her job.
Moonshot is a very cute, miscommunication trope, romance. If you're familiar with LM's previous works this is definitely a different vibe but still set in the same world and you even see characters you love from her other books!
They are both very relatable in the essence of their mindsets and interactions.
I enjoyed this prequel in her world and can't wait to see what she writes next.
“Ava, I love you. I never knew I could love anyone as much as I love you. You’re my Moonshot. I don’t ever want to let you go.”
Omg! This is my first book from LM Fox and I am not disappointed! Even though this is a novella, It felt like a full-length book! It was not rushed and I felt the pacing was so good because we get to know the characters prior their meeting.
Their chemistry was really good, even if Michael was reluctant at first to be in a relationship but couldn’t be apart from Ava even if he tried. Ava wants to try dating and here begins their story of happiness, love, and a tad of heartbreak.
Thank you author LM Fox and Foreword PR for providing me an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion
Mick had the girl and the baseball career in his future until he didn’t. Ava has the looks of a beauty Queen and the intelligence of a Physician’s Assistant but has been used too many times by men to make her trust them. Sounds like a match made in Heaven. Fox weaves a story of two people who really want to trust each other but can’t quite make that a reality. Great plot, believable characters, and enough je ne sais quoi to keep you wondering until the end. Great book. Can’t wait to read the trilogy that follows.
LM Fox does it again! I was blessed to receive and advanced reader copy of the book. I absolutely love Moonshot. Fox really gives the reader time to get to know both of our main characters separately before we get to them interacting with each other and I appreciate that in a great book. I love that the book is just the right pace to it and it’s not too fast or slow. Sometimes with novellas I feel like authors tend to rush the story line and the relationship development between our main characters, but LM Fox does it oh so perfectly.
Michael and Ava just seem to be made for each other from the very beginning. Michael is hesitant to jump into any serious relationship due to a heartbreak he experienced at the same time an injury cost him his baseball career, but there’s just something about Ava that captivated him and he just can’t seem to stay away.
Ava like her mother suffers from chronic migraines since she was a teenager, but unlike her mother she hasn’t let it take control of her life. As Ava deals with her migraines and her a-hole of a boss she finds a light at the end of the tunnel in beautiful and sexy Micheal with his biweekly visits to the hospital she works at. She wants to give dating a try despite her not so good history with going on dates.
We get to follow their journey of nerves and giddiness, happiness and laughter, misunderstandings and only a little bit of heartbreak.
LM Fox’s experience in the medical field and her hard work shines through in her writing!
Micheal and Ava's story was one that I really enjoyed. I think it's a good read. And it definitely made me curious and want to read the Deprivation Trilogy. Their storyline is quite different and that really intrigued me into reading it.
However, I have one problem with this book which is the miscommunication or lack thereof at that particular scene, which caused Mick to ghost Ava. I think it was a bit of an exaggeration and unreasonable. I know he's been burned before, but to do that to her? I think it's really hurtful. I definitely liked Ava's action after that and made Mick work for it.
The ending was better than most of the book but I still wasn’t a fan overall. The 2 main characters are late 20s/ early 30s but behave so much younger- it’s insta love apparently but then miscommunication after miscommunication. I liked Ava but found Mick a bit pathetic for most of the book.
I received an arc from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Another great book by LM Fox! I was so excited to get an ARC copy of Moonshot after reading her Deprivation Trilogy.
I just love Mick and Ava’s love story. I laughed and I cried and most definitely swooned! Thank you LM Fox for another awesome book! I can’t wait for what you have in store for us.
Loved this book so much minus the small bit of miscommunication ( I can't stand it) x the romance based on my fav movie frozen just sealed it for me x loved the banter between ava and mick as well x
I did not like this at all. The writing style cringed me out, I didn’t even really like the male mc, wasn’t a fan of the miscommunication and I hated the frozen (yes, the Disney movie) references and how frequently they came up.
Happy Release Day! Now available on Kindle Unlimited!
Moonshot is a prequel to the author's Deprivation trilogy, but can be read as a standalone.
Mick and Ava are the picture of cuteness in this light-hearted novel. We get to know them a little individually and then watch their relationship build and unfold throughout the story. I found both characters truly endearing. Ava is a strong, independent woman despite her ailment and childhood. The author focuses heavily on Ava's migraines. I believe a lot of readers will find this relatable. It also showcases Fox's medical background. Mick was just adorable with his boy-next-door qualities and sense of humor. The Frozen references were great! I loved how open these two were about their feelings for each other- even when things got messy.
Now I need to go back and reread Deprivation Trilogy and Bitter Rival so I can see them again! I'm so hoping for more of these two in future novels by Layla!
I hate to sound mean, because I know how hard it is to write a book, but this just wasn’t my cup of tea.
It just felt disjointed to me. It’s almost too sweet, then Michael will have something overtly sexual to say, and I’m totally fine with that, but it just felt out of place sometimes. I also found the dialogue a little too proper or stiff.
The pacing felt off to me too. There is literally a month between their interactions over and over. They have a 45 minute date? A month before they see each other. They have another date? He misinterprets something and there’s another month. They *finally* talk and clear the air? She asks for a month apart.
After this very minimal interaction, I’m supposed to believe they’re in love?! They barely spent any time together. I needed to feel their connection wayyy more to believe this. Especially since the other events happening when they weren’t together were so boring.
The one good thing was that after the dreaded miscommunication trope (which was soo annoying here) Ava doesn’t forgive and forget right away. Even though the month apart was irritating to see again, I was glad she wanted him to grovel and improve himself after jumping to conclusions and literally ghosting her.
I wasn’t so sold on Mick all the time either. He’s not sleazy but mentions a lot of one night stands on his frequent travels. (We don’t see any thankfully.) At one point he is about to have a one night stand to “get over the ice Queen” which I’ve seen in books and can only tolerate if the man comes to his senses on his own. But in this case, I’m pretty sure the only reason Mick doesn’t is because his ex shows up and he wants to escape. He also jumps to conclusions that could’ve been solved with a one sentence conversation.
He got better as time went on, and did seem devoted to Ava in general. The end was sort of cute, but overall, I found the book a little slow and underwhelming.

Another brilliant read written by the talented LM Fox. I really like Layla’s writing style and I’ll read anything she writes. I love the world she is building and she delivers her stories with relatable characters, raw emotions and sprinkles of humour. And of course steam! Moonshot is the prequel of the Deprivation trilogy, one of my favourite series of all time. It takes on a more light-hearted tone versus her other work and I love it all the same. This medical-workplace-sport romance is an absolute home run for me!
Mick is a former baseball player turned medical sales rep. He played ball his whole life wanting to be part of a major league team. He blew his shoulder during freshman year and could no longer play. He lost his dream and his girl and hit an all time low. He then moved on to study business and took on a new career path selling prosthetic devices to surgeons. In one of the clinics he frequents, he met the striking, kind and caring physician assistant Ava. He was so attracted by this icy queen yet hesitant to pursue things having been scarred by his ex.
After a year-ish of seeing Mick at work, Ava formed a little crush on him. He was a breath of fresh air, handsome, down-to-earth and funny unlike the arrogant surgeons she worked with. She too had been burned badly by her past relationship. Coupled with the chronic migraines, she was even more afraid to explore a relationship with Mick. Her mom suffered from the same illness and it was too much for her dad, he ended up walking out on them.
Ava and Mick finally worked past their insecurities and took the leap of faith to date. Their interactions inside and outside the workplace are just so so cute. I swoon hard over the effort Mick put in to make the relationship work, the thoughtful lunch date, the flirty text messages, the lovely baseball game night. And don’t get me started on the one bed scene. This wall of muscle + panty-melting tats + dirty talk hero is so fine.
I love seeing how their connection grew over time but miscommunication, or rather no communication is a real b*tch. When Mick jumped to conclusions and wouldn’t talk things out with Ava, it frustrated me beyond measure. There are so many times I wanted to bang their heads together. But once they cleared the air, they realised there was more work to be done individually. I applaud Ava for realising her worth and making Mick work for it. It was amazing to see them go on a journey to better themselves for one another. Of course, I enjoy seeing men grovel.
Special mention to our beloved crew from the Deprivation trilogy, it was incredible to see some of them make an appearance in this book. The Frozen references are so smart and funny, I absolutely love that. I am super excited to see what Layla has in store for us!
L.M. Fox always delivers a fantastic romance with a heck of a lot of steam. Her stories are hot and spicy, gripping and well written. Moonshot is one of those books that has you wanting more with Michael and Ava's chemistry being off the charts.
Ava is a smart and beautiful woman that works in a medical office as an assistant, enjoys her joy but not her boss. She suffers from debilitating migraines just like her mother and sees how her mother lives in pain all the time. Ava wants to be in a relationship but does not want to be a burden to anyone because of her migraines and what she goes through during an attack. When Michael, the medical supply salesperson, comes in she gets a tingle feeling inside of her. He is gorgeous and sweet, the perfect mix of a man. He comes in every other week to have his paperwork signed off by one of the doctors but always seems to be pushed off or dismissed. Ava offers to meet with him and this is where the sparks start to fly. Will she wants to start something with him and he seems like he likes her as well but there are walls up that need to be broken down. Will she start to believe that she deserves to be happy and loved? When the chemistry is too strong to ignore, will she give in to her heart and let her mind follow?
Michael was on his way to being a professional baseball player but due to an injury, his dreams were shattered and so was his love life. When he sees Ava his heart skips a beat but he is guarded because of his past. His childhood sweetheart left him when he got injured and he as never really wanted a relationship because of the hurt. But then Ava comes into his life his thoughts are focused on her not his guarded heart. When she offers to be the contact for his paperwork, he offers to bring lunch then hose lunches become more. She shows up at the little league baseball games that he coaches. Will she get him to let the walls around his heart break down? Can he get her to see that she is worth taking care of?
Having read the Deprivation trilogy previously, it was great to see the difference between Ava now and Ava after meeting Nick and Kat. I also loved having Nick and Kat involved in Moonshot. I am never disappointed in LK. Fox's writing and I definitely recommend adding this book to your TBR collection.
Wow! Where do I start? LM Fox has done it again. Her other 4 books were simply amazing and after reading this book I honestly can't wait for more of her work.
This was such a beautiful story and Ava and Mick simply stole my heart. If there is one thing that I love about this author's writing, it is the down to earth, realistic storyline and character relationship that she portrays. Ava and Mick were realistic people with real issues that were dealt with in such a brilliant way. Mick, who comes from a sporting background and Ava his 'princess' who works in the medical profession both have to battle with relationship insecurities and childhood traumas in order to take the next step in their relationship.
I loved their developing relationship and even though at times I wanted to reach through the book, shouting through a giant megaphone and then bang their heads together to tell them to talk to each other; I still loved every bit of the angst and suspense that got them to their HEA at the end of the book.
There is such a connection between Mick and Ava and how he is so sweet, protective and chivalrous towards her is what really makes this book for me. Not to mention the hot steamy scenes that we get, especially the hotel scene where they 'let it go' it is just utter perfection.
The side characters were perfectly written into the book and they certainly added that extra detail to the storyline. I can see new books from some of these characters on the horizon and I honestly can't wait.
I also absolutely loved the cameo of Dr Sebastian Lee (The Bitter Rival) and it made me love him even more than I did after reading his story in The Bitter Rival - if you haven't read this book and The Deprivation Trilogy, I highly recommend that you do and then you can experience the dreamy doctor duo that is Dr Barnes and Dr Lee!
Overall, this book is a 100% must read - you will not be disappointed!
Mick had been waiting in the doctor's office forever, but finally, the last patient was leaving and he can get his form signed. Mick was an ex-ballplayer turned medical device salesman. Of all the offices that he dealt with training on how to properly use their partial knee replacement hardware, this was the one he both dreaded and looked forward to.
These surgeons are the worst. One is especially unpleasant and condescending and Mick has to bite his lip hard to keep from commenting. The ray of sunshine is one of the physician assistants. Ava...who is Elsa in his fantasies. Blame his sister for making him live through Frozen, but Ava reminds him of the princess in both looks and sunny attitude.
Ava suffers from debilitating migraines just as her mother had, but unlike her mother, she is determined to not let them take away her life. Her job as a Physician's Assistant is stressful enough in the busy orthopedic office, but one surgeon, in particular, is determined to drive her crazy with his attitude and dumping his patients on her at the last second.
The highlight every two weeks is the eye candy who comes in to see how their hardware is working out. Many of the surgeons make him wait, but she decides to make him her permanent appointment right before lunch so she can spend more time with him.
LM Fox has written another amazing book! Mick....I so love Mick! A sexy ex-ballplayer, what more could you want? I love Mick and Ava's story. So many misunderstandings and miscommunications. Stubbornness and hurt play a big part of Mick's life. Having been burned horribly by a past relationship he just ghosts Ava instead of confronting her.
This book is steamy hot and action-packed from beginning to end. If you haven't read LM Fox you are definitely missing out on an outstanding author!!!
Thank you for LM Fox for an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
To my knowledge, LM Fox has done a complete makeover for Ava and Mick. This was originally her first book, even before the The Deprivation Trilogy: Box Set and The Bitter Rival, so I was very excited to receive a copy of this story.
One thing I've grown to love about Ms. Fox's books are the unique storylines. Her stories have depth and twists that I don't see coming and I love reading them late into the night. Mick was adorable with his references to Frozen when it came to all things Ava. His method of winning her over was pure cinnamon roll and exactly the kind of things Ava needed to see how serious he was about the prospect of them having a future.
"I never knew I could love anyone as much as I love you. You're my Moonshot. I don't ever want to let you go."
Another thing I always look for in books are female leads who know their worth. Ava made sure to lay down the law when it came to how she should be treated and I think that's an amazing trait for ALL women. Mick's sweet side was rivaled by his dirty talking, which let's just be honest, that's what we all want. These two were perfect for each other and I loved how there were appearances by some of our favorites from LM's other books. I got so excited meeting Dr. Sebastian Lee and it made me want to jump into his story for a reread!
The good + The way they were both all-in for forever + Ava standing up for herself and telling Mick exactly how he made her feel with his actions and how he should make it up to her + Mick romancing the shit out of Ava + Mick's faith in his little league team of ragtags + Ava yelling at Dr. Stark every time he went too far + The way Eve dealt with Fucking Edward + Emmaleigh + The flower shop + Mick showing Ava he'd stay by her even when times were bad
The neutral o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased o Mick really wanted a (manly) dog. Ava's mom volunteered at an animal shelter. They didn't get a shelter dog. Missed opportunity!
The bad - Ava said multiple times she'd love to have a partner to come home to when her headaches were really bad. I really really wanted a scene where Mick just takes very sweet care of her when it all became too much, but that didn't happen :( - Their separation went on a bit too long in my opinion
This was a really sweet and lovely romance. I absolutely loved how Mick romanced Ava and how well they fit together. It's also very refreshing that they both stepped into dating knowing they were working towards a relationship and not just sex. Very sweet, and would definitely recommend. I think I'm gonna read the series now that this book is a prequel to and see what's up with the handsome doctor.
Wow... This was so far from my expectations! Knowing LM Fox I was expecting more of an angsty read that would play with my emotions but instead I got a sweet romance which was very refreshing.LM Fox you're setting the standards for men too high for me through your books!!
It was a great experience observing St. Luke's world through Ava's POV and seeing the characters I love through new eyes! I loved how Ava and Mick even though were fighting their own individual demons but still decided to take a chance with each other, and the pacing of this book was just perfect. There were times specially with the parts with miscommunication where I wanted to get into the book and shake these characters up and get them to talk to each other. But they did not disappoint me for long and when they finally did get all their issues sorted? Damn I wasn't expecting the book to take that sweet turn! Mick was one of the sweetest book boyfriends I know specially once he pushed through his past hurts he made sure Ava knew how much he loved her every single time! And Ava was such a relatable character for me specially since I share many of habits and characteristics with her! The way she works hard and doesn't let anything in life get her down was really inspiring. The whole time I was reading this story I could actually relate to Ava a lot and that just made me love Mick all the more.
Thank you for my advanced copy ❤ Here is my honest review.
I felt the book was great. The storyline was fantastic. I absolutely loved how the truth was shown in how some people battle migraines. I personally suffer from them, so I felt this on a different level.
My impression of Ava was that she was wonderful. That girl had an amazing career. Wonderful support from her mother, cousin, and friends. She battled through migraines and still didn't let them take her down. I especially loved the 30-day thing with Mick. Now I didn't like that she approached him about it, but it all made sense.
My feelings for Mick well I wanted to shake him a few times. The man lived and breathed baseball, even knowing his major league dreams were over. I loved his friendship with Zack; we all need a friend like that. I understand past relationships can hurt future ones, but don't be a smuck about it. Now, his 30 days, he much deserved it after the crap he pulled on Ava. Ugh, men! I'm glad he more than proved it through.
A few things I felt could have been left out the whole Trevor thing, but I'm holding out on maybe that will lead to another book. I would be okay with one for Zack.
My suggestion on reading order - This one, then The Deprivation Trilogy, and then The Bitter Rival.

Ava He calls me Elsa. Ironic given he’s the one who can deliver a frosty reception. Yet between the hot physique, smoldering sex appeal, and his warm, sweet smile, this ice queen is melting for him a little more each day. I pray he’s not like the rest, giving me the cold shoulder once the challenge is met. Because I’m ready for the fairy tale.

Man oh man! I loved this book! It was a fun, loving, quick read. A perfect prequel to the Deprivation series~ which again I totally loved! Whenever I'm reading her books, I forget LM Fox is still a new author. Her work is brilliant, captivating, romantic and honest. I can easily envision what her main characters look like, the settings. I cannot wait to read more books, hoping that some of the characters have their own spin offs. ❤️
This totally sweet love story had me smiling the whole time. Mick and Ava are definitely characters that are made from each other- both being burned in past relationships it’s nice to finally see good things happen to good people!
I love Layla’s medical drama romances! With The Bitter Rival still being my all time favorite, we’re taken back to St Luke’s but a life before Dr Barnes and Kat and Dr Lee and Bella-( and the mention of Jake💔💔💔) but what you also get from her books because of her life in the medical field is actual knowledge about the medical situations in her books- and in each book she writes she picks a medical condition and goes with that, so for Ava- it was migraines. So not only do I fall in love with the romance part but I feel like I’m learning from her too!
Ava and Mick’s love story is perfect with a few GAHHHHHH moments( because one thing Fox does put in all her books in the miscommunication between characters that sets off a chain reaction- but you’re rooting for this couple the whole time. If you enjoy Fox’s writing than you will enjoy this as well! Looking forward to many more for this inspiring author! She is an absolute joy to talk with her and read her works!
The bases were loaded and Fox hit the Ultimate Grand Slam and knocked it out of the park. Moonshot is nothing short of romantic bliss wrapped up in 32 chapters and an epilogue then served with a beautiful red bow on top. Fox didn’t hold back when taking it to the next level with Mick and Ava, and that bar scene was so hot I think my kindle could have melted from the F I R E from this encounter alone. Mick an ex-baseball player turned medical device salesman makes a trip once every two weeks to an orthopedic clinic and Ava the gorgeous platinum blonde bombshell who resembles Elsa from Frozen, is currently the physicians assistant at this clinic. And is the lead in all of Mr. Michael York fantasies. When he finally gets the balls to ask her out after a year of admiring her from afar, lust and love is on the horizon for these two but not without some speed bumps along the way. Moonshot will get you all up in your feels and keep you guessing what will happen next. Fox knows how to bring romance to her pages with a kick of spice. You’ll definitely need to add this one to you TBR list.
Moonshot was such a swoon-worthy book! A heartwarming and steamy little romance, these characters stole my heart, and I adored their story!
"She's a forever kind of girl, and I'm just not sure I'm ready for that."
I devoured this book in one sitting; I couldn't put it down. ("Let it go. Let it go. LOL, I loved these references.) I found myself laughing through this book; it was such a fun read.
Mick is an ex-baseball player, and he now is a medical salesman. Ava is a PA at an Orthopedic Clinic. Mick always sees Ava at the clinic when he comes by but hasn't dared to ask her out. Mick is still hurt from his last relationship and doesn't want to get hurt.
Even though they weren't looking for a relationship, they couldn't deny their chemistry. They definitely faced some ups and downs in this book, mainly from stubbornness.
"Trust me, Mick. I'm already yours."
Mick and Ava's story is about two people finding themselves and falling in love; it's about friendship and trust; it was a beautifully written story, and I highly recommend you read it; trust me, you won't be disappointed. Moonshot was my first book by LM Fox and definitely will not be the last!
This book had a lot of potential but, unfortunately, I feel like it missed in a lot of areas.
Pros: - Ava is really likable as a character - Chronic illness (migraines) is portrayed with care and thoughtfulness - The little league team that Mick coaches is crazy and wacky - just like a real group of kids playing little league
Cons: - The way women are routinely talked about in this book is unnerving and unsettling. I realize that some men actually speak like this, but for our hero to engage in it and let it slide at other times was really uncomfortable. - Ava is labeled as an ice queen throughout the book by Mick, but she's not one at all. I recognize it's supposed to be because she looks like Elsa from Frozen, but the term ice queen means something completely different from Ava's personality. - The plot was unclear at times. Other than Mick's biases against women, there wasn't anything for the couple to overcome or deal with in the book.
Overall - I really liked Ava and I wanted to like Mick. However, because of the aggressive message against women and no repercussions (or even call out) of the men who spoke so lowly of women, I can't recommend this book.
