I received ARC in return for an honest review.
The Rooms We Hide is just the start for this author. The book hooked me from the get-go. When I find a book that reads so vividly, I have to devour it as quickly as I can, and this book had me reading well into the night simply to get answers and see how scenes played out. I had to finish it as soon as I started. The twists and turns and surprises that await you page after page…. I could not get enough. When I say, I let out audible gasps, I am not kidding. Since finishing the book, I find that I am already missing the characters and places laid out and I am ready for more. A wonderful introduction into the world of JS Mercier, I am excited for what is ahead.

I received this e-arc from the author for a review and what can I say! That ending! Just wow.

I found Jen a very likable MC and admired her strength and courage, add in her snarky sarcastic attitude and you got one badass female main character. I loved all the dark twists and being kept on my toes. When you thought you figured something out…BAM something else happens that makes you question what you thought you figured out. The beginning was slow but once things started getting into things, my did it do a whole 360! The characters are well developed as well as the story being in great detail that you found yourself immersed in the story unfolding around you. Anyone who knows me , knows I do love a good cult vibe book, especially a religious cult. I will admit I would to learn more about the compound and the corrupt morals of Uncle Patrick.

The spice level was just perfect and written so well that it wasn’t too cringe. The chemistry between Jen and Evan was off the charts. Evan was such a loveable character and had so much depth him.

I honestly can’t wait for the second book and reading more from Jen and the gang.

I received an E-ARC copy of The Rooms We Hide and oh my goodness! Slow to start, with just the right amount of details to really get you engrossed in Jen's situation and what lies ahead for her. JS Mercier creates such a powerfully vivid world that so easily sucks you in, and at times I felt like I was right in the thick of it with the characters and really didn't know how it would pan out. Just as you get comfortable with characters - whoooosh! - hidden agendas and secret identities unfold.

The right amount of spice paired with a crazy amount of suspense, I could NOT put this down. From the dedication (which is hilarious!) to a content warning for triggers and a Jen inspired playlist - this is a very well thought out and skillfully executed breakout work for JS Mercier. I cannot wait to see where this author goes and her many successes from here on out!

*I received an eARC from the author for an honest review*
This book was a pretty fun read. I liked the MC and the fact that she's like a female Dexter. Jen isn't the type to be a damsel in distress. If you screw with her family, she will kill you. Jen is a badass and I loved her.

For a second, this felt like a reverse harem (the MC makes a reference to this). I was actually surprised at where the story went. There were plenty of twists to keep me guessing.

If you're a fan of spice, then this is for you. I personally feel like there may have been a little too many spicy scenes, but it's a matter of preference.

I loved the scenes with Jen in her workroom. I'd say those and the bookstore were my favorites.

I'm looking forward to the next book. I hope a certain someone gets what's coming to them.

What a freaking beautiful debut book!

Jen is the strongest women character I've have ever met in a book. She's an inspiration. She was a good daughter, a good friend, a good partner.

About Evan.....he was a sweet boy, a sweet partner and a sweet friend.

About other guy characters.....I can't tell because it will be a spoiler. Just I can tell that every guy in this book carries their own mystery.

I absolutely adore this book. It's one of my favourite book of all time. Thank you so much JS Mercier for the gifted eARC, I appreciate it so so much. Can't wait to read what's ahead after this book!

I received an ARC in return for a honest review…so here it goes!

This book is AMAZING! It starts off and you think you know how it is going to go and then BAM a major twist! The characters are catchy and make you want to dive in. There are a few triggers with this book so please make sure to know that ahead of time.

Can’t wait for more books from this author!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

WHAT. A. DAMN. RIDE! The dark twists throughout kept me thoroughly entertained and whenever I thought I knew what would be coming next… I was wrong! Jen is a major bad ass FMC, and the men in her life… I love them. And the spice. Ooooofffff the spice was SPOT. ON. It’s rather difficult to write sex scenes but damn, these were done perfectly. BRAVO.

Really the ONLY reason this isn’t a 5 star review, is because there were moments where the detailed description of daily outfits or the over explanation of certain actions distracted me. I skimmed through a couple paragraphs here and there because of it. I know many readers who love this, but it’s just not my personal preference.

But honestly, this is a GREAT debut for this author! It is full of betrayal, torture, murder, revenge, majorly spicy romance! And that cover?!? Absolutely LOVE IT!

I really look forward to seeing what happens in the next book!

This book certainly provided the twists and turns... you may think you know what’s going to happen, but I would guess you are probably wrong. It has a somewhat slow start but once the action starts there is no putting it down. The characters are well developed, and the story is told in great detail, allowing you to get fully immersed in the narrative that is unfolding.

This is a great first book for this author, and it will be exciting to see where this story goes next!

Wow! I just have to start with wow! This was so much more than what I was expecting. It was my first dark romance book and I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in a day and being a longer read (495 pages) shows that it was THAT GOOD! The way the author brought in humor along with steamy romance and thrilling dark suspense was just amazing! I loved the writing and how the plot twists continued to pop up when I least expected them to. The story line was so well played out and the characters are ones I definitely won’t forget. The ending was perfect (no spoilers) I didn’t see it coming and it was a perfect way to “end” the story line for this one! I can’t wait until her other books come out in the future because they will for sure be on my bookshelf! This is definitely a must read!

With nothing but loss in her life, Jenevive is trying to get on with her life. With twists and turns, lies and betrayals, can she find her way?

Bizarre. Wild. Crazy. One moment you think you know what’s happening and then BOOM! I thought I had so many things figured out but turns out I knew nothing.

I was extremely intrigued with Jenevive from the very moment she was introduced. She was fun, hilarious, and a strong lead. Her secrets shook me once they were out in the open.

The action in this book was delivered. The spice in this book is perfection. When everything started to kick off, I couldn’t put it down.

The only thing that kept me from giving this story 5 stars was the slow start. There were times I was skimming and had to push myself through. There were parts of the story that felt like filler conversations. For example, there were times when the story focused on describing stuff that happened or the way the setting is, that to me took away from the plot. There were moments where the character would tell Alexa to play a certain playlist or a certain song. It wasn’t necessarily that the mention of the song or playlist was the problem, but it was repetitive over time.

With that being said, you just have to hold on and keep going because I promise it’s worth it.

Either way, this book was a good debut novel for JS Mercier and I was honored to read it. I will say I’m just going to sit over here patiently waiting for the next one. If you’re looking for twists and turns, slow burns, and a wild ride this is the book for you.

I wish I was a skilled writer so I could give this book the review it deserves! I loved every second of The Rooms We Hide. The way J.S. Mercier writes is captivating. You can’t help but get immersed in this story, the characters, the suspense, the romance, the emotions, all of it. I was captivated from the moment I started reading it and couldn’t wait to get home from work each day so I could continue. I am beyond impressed that this is the first book J.S. Mercier has written. I am officially a fan and cannot wait to read the next book!

Spice Rating 🌶🌶🌶

I am still reeling from the absolute whiplash of events throughout this book that come together to provide an absolute thrilling adventure. When I say I gasped out loud I am not exaggerating. The twists and turns were spectacular and top that with some yummy spice and you have a clear winner!! I cannot and will not provide any specifics to the plot of this story as it would ruin the adventure that awaits you. All I can say is you won’t regret getting this book, and I for one will be purchasing anything by JS Mercier no questions asked ❤️

I don't even know where to begin! This book was unlike any of the others that I typically read. There was romance in it, but the plot and the twists kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to put this book down! The story of Jenevieve was well told. I like that the author flashed back a certain times to make sure the readers knew why things were the way they were as well as the different point of views from a Jen and The Watcher. I was really surprised by who was really watching Jen and how their relationship ended up developing. There were many shocking parts to this book that I never saw coming. One of the biggest surprises was who was the person behind her father's death! This is definitely a book I would recommend and will read more than once! I can't wait to read the next one! Excellent work!!

This wasn't a super smut fest so if thats what you want the first half may be disappointing. However, the plot, characters and amount of twists and crazy town turns just kept me so laser focused!! I absolutely didn't call half of the crazy turns! I love when authors can catch me off guard like that!

The Rooms We Hide: The Secrets Duet - Book 1

JS Mercier

Jen, Brandon, Daniel, Ryan and Evan have been friends for most of their lives.
Jen and Brandon work at his mother's book shop they live in the same apartment building and close like brother and sister, helping each other when needed.

Jen has been trained by her father to get rid of people that don't obey by the rules and not get caught.

In this book there's spice, entertainment, humor and blood and Jen is a force all by herself, she's strong, has a soft side with a touch of darkness at the right moments.

This book had me reading late into the night trying to figure out whose behind the mystery only to be thrown off guard, sometimes you knew what was going to happen and that balanced the book out perfectly.

One thing I did love about this book is when you have main characters and then a character watching/stalking and not knowing a name or a clue of who it is, also loved how she would share her Playlist she was playing at the time.

There are so many things I enjoyed about this book that it would give too many spoilers away and you have to be surprised just like me.

Each chapter had you turning the page to see what would be next, this is one of those books you say I'll read just one more chapter only to read more than one I loved it.

I love all of the characters in this book and it is well written has a mixture of love, betrayal, blood, darkness and grief.

I really enjoyed Brandon character he's the type of guy you would want as a best friend/brother I hope in the next book there's more about him, I want to love him even more than I already do.

I love this author and look forward to reading more.
If you haven't read this yet, I highly recommend it.

The rooms we hide is a debut by this author and what a way to start! It’s dark, romantic, bloody and has you intrigued from the very beginning.

I did guessed a fair few of the twists or turns before they happened but I sure had hella lot of fun on the ride and watching them come untwisted.

I would normally say ‘our two leads are’ but I’m not going to do that with this review as I don’t want to give too much away cause that’s part of the suspense in the beginning. So this review won’t be as long as normal.

I absolutely loved Jen she is a badass Queen, with a fantastic personality! She is my sprit animal. The love she has for her friends, her loyalty and caring heart.
Of course she is a total freak’ psycho in the best way too, her dad trained her to help clean out the trash literally ridding the world of those who only take, hurt and destroy others.

If I could have a friendship like Bran and Jen have I would be happy for life and I do mean JUST FRIENDS with these two. They are so unbelievably cute, the banter is top form and their love for each other is like none other!

‘The watcher’ if you know, you know! He is hot stuff! Adorable but demanding AF! Loved him from the start and knew he was the one! He will do anything for Jen and she will do anything for him. He has always loved her, he is her missing puzzle piece.

There will be people who get in there way, can their live prevail through it all or will it be too much for them both to handle? One thing after another comes after these young adults, will it all get to them? Will they get caught? Or is this only the beginning?

This book is bloody, had twists and turns.
Has Banter, steam and love in many forms.
I really enjoyed and am so looking forward to book two. Ends on a cliffy

UMM.. Wow. This book was a masterpiece filled with drama, mystery, romance, blood and gore, cult vibes, torture, and lots of spice!

There were so many twists and turns, you never know what’s going to happen, and you never expect it! This book kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat! It has a somewhat of a slow start, but once the action starts it keeps going. There isn’t much specifics I can talk about since you need to experience the book itself.

I will say that I love Jen. She’s such a strong character and very genuine. She is comfortable with herself and won’t change a thing and she isn’t afraid to kick ass. And then there’s Evan (SWOON). He’s the sweetest and hottest and so respectful of her. He also had the perfect dirty talk and it was delicious. Jen’s relationship with her best friend Brandon is so great, I really loved it. They love each other like siblings and are so protective of each other, it was just the best.

I absolutely loved this book, it was so unexpected and it was a great adventure. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. (check your triggers!)

ARC REVIEW!
This book was a masterpiece! It was everything you want in a dark romance! There’s murder, blood and gore, revenge, cult vibes, second chance romance, found family and lots of spice! There was so many twists and turns throughout, I was shocked, heartbroken and swooning at so many parts!
Jen is a book worm and reads smut!! She’s perfect😏.
Jenivieve is such a strong character and I love that she was a badass bitch!! Doesn’t take anyones shit and knows how to defend herself.
Evan is the sweetest human ever! He’s been in love with her since they were kids and he’s just the perfect book boyfriend. He’s sexy, charming, so respectful and he’s obsessed with her. He’s also got a dirty mouth that was delicious🥵.
Brandon is her best friend and I’m obsessed with their relationship! They are so protective and loving towards each other. But their banter was amazing! I would most definitely read his book if he gets one!
I did not see the twist that came in this book. It was so good and I was on the edge of my seat! I cannot wait for book 2! Once you finish you’ll understand the cover!
JS Mercier is a must read author!!

First, I need to tell you to heed the warning in the beginning of the book. This book is not for readers who do not enjoy darkness and revenge because it is full of both. Jen is awesomely tough and self-sufficient. She needs no man to complete her, yet she yearns for one to walk alongside her. When she finds him (and I can't tell you who him is because it's a major spoiler), he says this to sum up how they fit: "I do accept every part of you because all of your parts match my own, those dark ones included."

There is a lot of graphic torture in this book, which I don't typically go for and I did skim over some of it for my own mental wellbeing, but I liked how Jen and her true friends worked together. They were a family by choice that had each other's backs in every way. The ending leaves it open for the next book, and I expect it will get even darker from here on out. This was just the tip of the iceberg into the depravity from the villains left standing in this story.

This book was absolutely crazy!! I mean, the title kind of explains it but wow I did not expect half of the twists in this book!!

Jen, Brandon and Daniel unexpectedly have their friends Ryan and Evan disappear four years ago. They were all best friends and one day Ryan and Evan were gone, with no notice, never to be seen again.

Four years later Ryan and Evan show back up and explain the unfortunate and unavoidable situation they faced four years ago. Jen and Brandon decide to give them a chance to rekindle their friendship while Daniel is skeptical of why they are back.

The steam and sexy talk is top notch. The characters were disturbing and unhinged but it worked. There were so many twists I almost got whiplash and I honestly did not know what was coming next, and the freaking ending…..my god I can’t wait for book 2!!

Wow! This book had me cracking up out loud by the end of the first page. Jen’s humor and inner dialogue is snarky and hilarious! The twists and turns are unpredictable and had me turning pages all night long, trying to put the pieces together myself. Jen’s grief and turmoil over her father’s death is so heartbreaking, but the joy and comfort she gets from her loved ones balances it out. Her friendships, especially with Brandon are total goals! As a side character, Brandon jumps off of the page with his colorful outfits and outrageous remarks. And then there’s the romance and spice that build up in Jen’s life… hot damn! I would classify this as a medium-burn, because the spice is fairly mellow until about halfway through the book, but once it shows up it stays HOT. This was such an emotional, twisty, action-packed story and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

Holy Sh*t

I have never read a book quite like this in my life! I was completely blown away by this author and was legitimately shocked that this was her debut novel First, I want to say that this book is so well written, it completely read like a season author wrote it! Next let’s get to the story! Sweet baby Jesus this story had me in a chokehold the entire way through. It is dark and twisted and spicy as hell! I had every single emotion imaginable during this read and I was absolutely for it! I don’t want to give anything away and honestly think you should go into this one blind, but if you enjoy dark romance, some unaliving, mystery, crazy psychos who get what they have coming to them, a badass heroine, and an alpha possessive hero THEN READ THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

This book was incredible and was the perfect mix of spice, mystery, and thrill to devour poolside. With lots of Dexter vibes, I was instantly hooked to join Jen, Brandon, and Evan on their wild adventure.

The Rooms We Hide (perfect title, btw) primarily follows Jen has she deals with processing her father’s somewhat mysterious death, while two ghosts from her past show up unexpectedly. Admittedly, that is only the beginning as this book twists and turns and then leaves you with a great cliffhanger. Needless to say, I am beyond excited for the next book in this duet.

Thanks to the author, JS Mercier for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

Wow. Just when you think you have things figured out, the author throws in another plot twist!

Starting out I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, it was a little slow in the beginning. However, once you get past the character development, it takes you on a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns! The story is well written and the scenes are well described without going over the top. All in all I really enjoyed this story.

Please make sure you read the trigger warnings and then proceed with caution! While this is a love story, there is also a lot of revenge and murder included, and revenge can get kinda messy. 😉

This book was awesome! I came across it on a video based social media platform. I was immediately hooked and quickly scrambled off to download it on kindle unlimited. I did not fully expect the plot that developed as I read and I LOVED that. I'm not sure exactly what I thought I was going to be reading now that I look back but what transpired was not it. I think I was expecting a romance with a little darkness but it was heavily romance based. Yeah no. This book is an amazing thriller with the romance thrown in! The romance scenes were amazing, steamy, hot, passionate and just *chefs kiss* but it didn't hold a candle to the shocks and plot grenades that just kept hitting me as the reader. I thought I had the story figured out and *BAM* nope it has changed.

I don't want to give away any of the plot but as long as you are okay with a dark romance, some murder, creepy stalker situations and hella strong FMC's then this book is for you!

The only reason I did not give the book 5 stars is because, at times, I felt like maybe there was too much detail to the current happenings in the book. I feel like it was a personal issue at the time and perhaps I was in a mood because I see that no one else has had that same thought! Seriously, it wasn't too much that I felt like I needed to stop reading but it seemed enough to put the thought in my brain. Again, I still think the book is AMAZING and you should check it out!

This book had me hooked from start to finish. A gripping page turner. There's all kinds of twists and revelations. You'll think you've got it figured out on what's coming but then surprise something else happens. I couldn't stop reading this once I started. It surprised me and it really delivers one hell of a story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
