Caregiver, are you overwhelmed? Do you secretly (or not so secretly) have bouts of despair, bitterness, and even hopelessness?
As a caregiver, you run the risk of disappearing. Your time goes overwhelmingly to the needs of your loved one. Relationships get strained, and challenges and anxieties are difficult to articulate. It’s easier to just keep your head down and do what must be done.
What’s more, you probably didn’t sign up for this role or train for it. And yet here you are, reliving the trauma that got you here, providing support you didn’t know you had in you to give, struggling with fatigue, making critical, life-altering decisions, and yearning for the community you had that has changed or disappeared. As a caregiver, do you ever
Rich in stories, threaded with humor, and unflinchingly real, We’re Stronger than We Look is a safe place for you to process the life you’ve been given, to accept that it’s okay not to have it all together, and to be inspired about your caregiving role―even while recognizing the need to take care of yourself as well.
I’m not a carer, but this book certain helped me to see and comprehend some of the struggles that come with that job. I believe it will help to love the carers I know, and perhaps be a better carer myself if I am called to be one.
Reading this book felt like being at a caregiver's retreat with Jill as the guest speaker. You had the freedom to drop in for one or two chapters at a time or to experience the entire book at one sitting. Jill and David's honest personal experience expressed with grace and wisdom blesses the reader with strength and hope on the caregiving journey, a path that tends to feel never-ending, depleting, and lonely. This book is the perfect gift for yourself or for a caregiver who is dear to your heart.
In writing a poignantly-honest account of her journey as a caregiver for her husband, Jill Case Brown makes space for others who are struggling with the exhaustion and frustration of caring for someone they love to admit and live into their own experiences. In the process, she also provides a template for finding the accompanying joys. This beautifully-written book is at once candid and encouraging.
This is a great read for all caregivers. The author shares her personal insights in honest details that will resonate with an audience longing to be understood. Equally inspiring and practical, I read it in one sitting.
A dear friend with Advent Health gifted me this book when she could sense I was struggling in my caregiver role. Jill Case Brown is so honest and raw, but I needed that real talk. She also encourages and teaches grace by pointing the reader to Scripture and the love of Jesus. It’s a gem of a read. Thank you for your intentional and impactful writing, Jill! - Lynnette F. I've been asked to review a few books on caregiving in the past, bought this because I knew the author. Easily one of the best books I've read on the subject, a great mix of honest stories, humility, humor, and practical advice.
Love this book! Have been a caregiver for over 34 years. It's difficult for others to understand the relentless trials and toll caregiving takes, but Brown does. Her little essays are lovely, her perspective exactly what I needed.
Fantastic little book for caregivers. Jill acknowledges how lonely, isolating and often unexpected this role can be. Short engaging chapters, humor, wise insights. Read it or gift it to any caregiver friends!
Navigating caregiving in this season has been lonely in many ways. As I've read more books like these they've offered truths that our experience is not terribly unique and it's given helpful realities to learn how to navigate this season well. Grateful for the honesty and vulnerability of Brown and the truth in these pages.
