Rebecca has had her fair share of trials. After being attacked violently by her husband, Rebecca comes face to face with a cloaked figure, their hand punctured through her husband's chest. Rebecca can't believe what she sees, and thinks it's all in her head as she grapples with pulling her life back from the brink of despair. Follow Rebecca as she is once again faced with this figure, shrouded in darkness, beckoning her to follow her into the deep woods. Who is this cloaked figure? What does it want with Rebecca? Answers await as she walks deeper into the mist.
I picked this up at a convention in West Virginia last week and I finished it in a single sitting.
This book has some very strong themes of violence against women and the scenes are graphic. There is a content warning at the beginning (THANK YOU AUTHOR), and I will say that this novella will not be for everyone.
But for those of us who love a good feminine rage/revenge story, it's excellent.
The main character's plight was compelling and I genuinely felt for her from the very first page. As someone who has escaped an abusive marriage from a tiny town, I immediately identified with and understood Rebecca.
And who doesn't love Medusa?
(If it's you, if you're the one who doesn't love Medusa, then move along. There's nothing for you to see here).
If you're searching for a quick, delicious revenge story to boost your spirits about the lousy world we live in, give this one a chance.
There are several typos and a few places where the tense shifts from past to present, but it wasn't enough to distract from the story.
A wonderful novella that was a quick and gripping read. The theme surrounds domestic violence and the injustice that evil men place upon women. I found this book to be relatable, and that made me love it that much more. Whether you have been a victim or know one, you will relate and sympathize with Rebecca. This book takes mystery, fear, and justice and wraps it all up into an incredible one sitting, easy read.
