A compelling, twisty read for fans of domestic suspense and psychological thrillers!
Here’s a little about me, Brandon Massey. (“Massey” is not pronounced “macy,” by the way. Think of “mass” instead.)
I was born June 9, 1973, in Waukegan, Illinois. I grew up in Zion, a suburb north of Chicago.
I originally self-published Thunderland, my first novel, in 1999. After managing to sell a few thousand copies on my own, Kensington Publishing Corp. in New York offered me a two-book contract, and published a new, revised edition of Thunderland in December 2002.
Since then, I’ve published up to three books a year, ranging from thriller novels such as The Other Brother, to short story collections such as Twisted Tales, and anthologies such as Dark Dreams.
My newest suspense thriller, Covenant, was published in November 2010.
I’ve got plenty more stories in the works that I’ll publish in the coming years.
5 stars ⭐️ for this long awaited novel from Mr. Massey. Absolute page turner that I read while getting my hair braided (6 hours 😩).
In this story we meet Eric who is on a desperate search to find his 20 year old daughter Destiny who he only recently discovered existed. Turns out she’s been in foster care all her life. Eric wants to get Destiny on the right path and away from her shady boyfriend but suddenly Destiny goes missing. This leads Eric on a insane search to find her that uncovers secrets from his past along with an unbelievable shady (and dangerous) family that he’s mysteriously connected to. Join Eric on his wild race against time to find his oldest daughter and hopefully make up for lost time.
Mr. Massey, please don’t make us wait too long for your next book!!
This story was so over the top. With each twist and turn it got to be more of out of control. The nonsense was so plentiful that it was almost comical. The suspense was good. It made me want to keep reading to see how it would all come together. There were some elements in the book that reminded me of Massey’s book, The Quiet Ones. He even threw in a crazy twist like the old Robin Williams movie The World According to Garp. I could appreciate that because I used to love that equally ridiculous movie. I can’t say that this was a great piece of literature, but it was definitely entertaining.
The only other book I've read by Mr. Massey was "Dark Corner," so I wasn't sure what to expect going into this one. Initially, I thought I would enjoy the premise, but I feel like Eric unraveled way too quickly - there was no real buildup to him suddenly thinking he was Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson's character in "Taken".) Alyssa's behavior struck me as odd as well. In one breath she is telling Eric to be careful, but she's doing her own digging and being extremely secretive (and then kind of pushy) when she wanted to pursue her own theories. I just don't think what little we knew about them up until Destiny went missing jibed with everything that came after.
The ending felt rushed and the reveal was very soap opera-y. I think this book had a lot of potential but it was not executed well and left a lot to be desired.
It felt like I waited a million years to read a new novel by Brandon Massey! This book was different from his others. Normally, when I pick up a book this I can't put it down. This time I had a hard time picking it up. It was a bit difficult reading at first because the main character was so damn weak. But as the story went I was able to see that he had more strength than I thought. There are a few other points that needed a bit more explanation. But overall still a good book.
REALLY hoping that it won't be another eternity before the next novel.
This was thrilling story about a man, Eric Newton, who discovers he had a 20 year old daughter unbeknownst to him. He just wanted make sure she made good choices, but her boyfriend Clive proved to be a choice be didn't agree with. They both learn about her mother through a rich family the Cannon in the small town of Grisby, Georgia. They family has some shady business practices that put both of their lives in danger. I enjoyed this story. Brandon Massey is a good writer I like his out of the box thinking.
What a story of these main characters and the horror of both families and from the wealthy side of society. I really could not stop reading it. It was fast paced moving quickly through each suspenseful scene. Well written by the Author.
It was good, but I know he has potential to do better!
This was a slow turn book in the beginning, it wasn’t until the middle of the book where it began to grab me and I felt that the store kind of went on from there. I really liked it, but after reading The Landlord it had huge shoes to fill!
This book was a lot different than the books that I’ve read by Mr Massey. It was suspenseful, kept me wanting to see what was going to happen next, but somewhat predictable.
Faithful follower ….. patiently waiting the release of his next book.
Kind of different, with some scenes in the book that could have been written a little different. It seems like something was missing in parts of the story. The characters in story were weak or not really up to par pertaining to the story.
Mr. Massey does it again!! There is always a twist that I did not see coming! I thought I had everything figured out and then bam, the unexpected happens! Keep telling masterful stories!!
Interesting and well written storyline providing thought provoking discussions. I would recommend this story as a bookclub read or a good mystery read. I liked the way the story unfolded
I am a huge Brandon Massey fan; but I must say I was left disappointed with this book. I felt as though it was a little juvenile for Mr. Massey compared to his other captivating books - such as: Don’t Ever Tell; The Other Brother or Within the Shadows.
I love Brandon Massey and I usually love all of his books. This was weird to me. There were a lot of unanswered questions and scenarios in the book that just didn’t make sense. Was there another book before this? Interesting story but weird.
Although I felt I had the book figured out about 75% in, I still enjoyed reading how everything unfolded. It was slow towards the beginning but it picked up quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was my first B. Massey book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot, the pace the story was really suspenseful. I couldn't wait to turn the page & I was not able to guess the ending. I am going to read the landlord now. I recommend this book.
Pretty good plot to get me back into the psychological thriller mood. Although this was a solid read, this was not one of my favorites of his. Still a good thriller with some shocking twist. It shows you what a father would do for his baby girl.
Brandon Massey is a versatile author. I enjoy his stories. Here, a man discovers an adult daughter. His search for answers leads to a psychotic family, hiding secrets. Strong recommendation.
