The name of the book is The Price of Integrity. But...whose integrity? I never did figure that out. There isn’t a lot of integrity in this story to go around.
I liked the beginning of the book, until I didn’t. It started out with an interesting premise that should have stayed the course, but it did not. The initial interplay between the two protagonists was ludicrous and juvenile. Training Officer Farrah Moss is working with Barker, a golden Lab who is about to get his first partner. She is serious in her intent to keep the dogs and their partners safe. Officer Kurt Willis is her polar opposite, a fun-loving clown who is never serious. Sounds like there could be an appealing conflict between these two disparate personalities, right? Nope.
Willis behaves like a petulant little boy and becomes increasingly antagonistic towards Moss. She is worried about his behavior affecting the dog, Barker, and she is right. He doesn’t follow training protocol and allows Barker to become a pet rather than a partner. The writing is heavy handed, and Willis comes off as a shallow, mean-spirited man who stoops to pranking Moss in increasingly deprecating and borderline cruel jokes…at Moss’ expense, of course. He even recruits help from others in the unit. He is a genuinely mean person, ugly inside.
Based on his pranking the training officer, I had no respect for the Willis character and as the story wore on, it got worse. Neither of them gave the other a break. I had to side with Officer Moss, however, because she never belittled Willis, only strived to make him a better K9 handler. Officer Willis, however, felt the need to show her who was boss, meaning him, naturally.
Their insta-lust was false. From a bar scene, into a cab, and finally at his apartment they went at each other. What was no doubt meant to be sexy or erotic was just a lot of tumbling around. The sex was gratuitous, occurring way too soon. I get what the writer was trying to do: show some mutual attraction beneath the anger and frustration they felt for each other. But there wasn’t enough ground work laid and the rush into sex seemed pushed, as if the writer couldn’t wait to get to the sex and forced us along with her even when we wanted to wait a bit. The follow-up sex was no better, occurring at inappropriate times, like during a stakeout (Really? Really?Really!)
At 59% completion, I gave up. It was too awful. I started to speedread, then went on to skim paragraphs and finally skipped whole sections without missing much. The story is thin, without a lot of substance. The characters have no empathy. Their initial fall into sex was appalling and it got no better. By the time they decided they loved each other, towards the end of the book, it was too late and I didn’t believe either of them.
If they had been kinder from the very beginning, if Willis had not pulled cruel pranks on Moss – and yes, these were cruel tricks, meant to ridicule her not just in his eyes, but in the eyes of their unit – then a deeper relationship might have made sense. However, there was no going back. He had set himself up as the unkind jester and he personified her as the “bitch with the stick up her ass.” Shame on him for telling her this just because she was right.
And Moss’ attraction to Willis? Very odd. Nothing preceded it. She was annoyed, made to look a fool, demeaned, and devalued. So what did she do? Jump into bed with him. She kept wanting him, even with all that. I like to see protagonists grow to like, then love, each other. But this couple made no sense. Their chemistry was non-existent, created out of whole cloth; like that old saw, the writer sewed a vest on a button.
And finally, speaking of integrity…where is the integrity when an officer insults and performs cruel jokes on a fellow officer, inciting others to join him? Where is the integrity when two officers have sex on a stakeout during a career-making case? Where is the integrity when an officer is so egotistical that he will not call for backup because he wants all the credit for working a case?
I rated this book 2 stars. It started out well, then went to shambles. It was a disappointing read. The hero was anything but a hero. The heroine seemed lost and was so manipulated by the writer that by the end of the book, she no longer had a clear persona. No thank you to any more books in this series.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Farrah and Kurt. The author does a great job pulling you into the story and kept me glued to the pages right to the end. I loved watching them work together and build their chemistry and relationship.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
An exciting start of a new series from the new duo of Lexy Timms and Ali Parker!!! Farrah Moss is a K-9 trainer and is about to introduce her favorite trainee Barker to his new partner Kurt Willis. Things start off on the wrong foot when they arrive at the station to see Kurt and another K-9 officer rough housing. Kurt just can't seem to get the stick out of Farrah's rear end...I mean doesn't she ever loosen up or just blow off some steam?? Farrah isn't sure he's ready or responsible enough for Barker yet and insists on more training to get the two more acquainted. When Barker makes a drug bust out of protocol, Farrah insists on partnering with Kurt to get the top guys. Things go from frustrating to hot in the confines of a stake out. Once the lid is off their sexual chemistry there's no putting it back on. Someone is in the know of their safe house and kidnapped Farrah while Kurt is out with Barker. How can Kurt get Farrah out safely?? Will Farrah make it out with their secrete safe?? When did dislike turn to love?? An exceptional MUST READ!! His/her POV, no cheating, no cliffhanger and one hell of an HEA! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Looking forward to the next story in this series.
“The Price of Integrity” is the first book in the ‘K-9 Protection Romance’ series by Lexy Parker. It’s an entertaining story with three main characters – Farrah, a female police officer who trains dogs for the K9 unit, Kurt, a male police officer who has recently joined the K9 Unit, and Sergeant Barker, the canine who brings them together.
Farrah is extremely serious about her career. She has great respect for the dogs she trains and wants to make sure they are always handled safely. She’s a big believer in rules, routines, and requirements. Kurt takes his responsibilities as a police officer seriously, but he’s a happy-go-lucky kind of guy and finds great pleasure in joking around, playing pranks, and bending rules. Farrah has her doubts about Kurt’s suitability for the responsibilities of being partnered with a K9 and is very reluctant to leave Barker in his hands. There is a lot that goes on in this story. The action includes a big drug bust, an erratic informant, a forced partnership, a surprisingly steamy stakeout, conflict, confusion, and an unexpected baby on the way.
I thought this story was easy to read and entertaining. I liked how readers learn more in-depth information about both human lead characters as the book progresses. A couple of moments having to do with the police department weren’t entirely plausible to me, but it’s fiction so that’s OK because it worked for the story. There were nice plot twists, good dialogue, and interesting secondary characters. I also enjoyed how Barker became an actual character instead of just being a furry prop. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next in this new K9 unit.
This is book one in The K-9 Protection Romance Series and it is Farrah and Kurt's story and it is a great start to a new series and definitely a must read. Farrah is a police officer and also a K-9 trainer and she absolutely loved her job and takes the training of the dogs seriously and she has a soft spot for Barker the dog that she has been training and will be sad when he goes to his new owner today. Kurt is a police officer and has now joined the K-9 unit and he is looking forward to having his dog today and even though Kurt is a bit of a joker and laid back he takes his job very seriously. When Farrah and Kurt meet sparks fly but not of the good kind and they end up butting heads constantly as they are the totally opposite of each other but when they end up having to work together on a case will they end up killing each other or will they give in to the strong and intense chemistry that is between them but only time will tell what the outcome will be. The characters and storyline pulled you in right from the start and keeps you engaged in the story right until the last page and I couldn't put this book down as it was so addictive and a real page turner and I can't wait to read more books in this series.
This is the first book in the K-9 Protection Series and I absolutely loved this one. Farrah Moss is a K-9 dog trainer, she gets them ready to be partners with their human counterparts. It is her job to ensure the dog is matched correctly. When she first meets Kurt Willis, she is not impressed, in fact he makes her angry as he does not seem to take anything seriously. He does not understand he cannot be buddies with Barker, it needs to be kept professional so as not to confuse him.
Kurt does not understand what her problem is, she must have a stick you know where. Then she says she is going to stick around for the week to make sure he knows what he is supposed to do. During that week, they stumble on a drug bust, instead of turning the case over to narcotics, they work the case together.
A night at a bar, where both have been drinking ends up with a very steamy hooking up. There is more forced proximity when they are on a stake out together and things are not so innocent.
This story was very entertaining, it pulled you in and kept you enthralled throughout the whole book. Cannot wait until the next in the series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
⭐️⭐️ - It’s okay, not really my thing. Won’t read again.
Farrah’s incredibly serious, borderline TOO serious, but i understand her dedication to the dogs and training them.
Kurt is childish. Down. Right. Childish. He even compares himself to a golden retriever. Maybe that’s what the author was going for, but I definitely did not see it. There was very little that was cute or funny about him.
I didn’t like the “fighting” between Farrah and Kurt at the start. It was really petty and stupid honestly. Kurt pranking Farrah every day, multiple times a day, for a week because she called him out on not being serious enough about Barker? He was obviously set on making Barker more of a pet than a working dog, whether that was intentional or not.
The relationship between Kurt and Farrah was very rushed. Ahem, the taxi. It was just… they absolutely LOATHE each other and then within 10 seconds of sitting in a cab they’re all over each other and can’t get enough?
I understand it’s supposed to be enemies-to-lovers but this felt more like hate-to-lust-to-hate-to-like-to-hate-to-lust-to-love. Didn’t work for me.
SPOILERS UNDERNEATH HERE
And the PREGNANCY trope? Really? Not a fan of that

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE PRICE OF INTEGRITY". This was a great start to this new series by Lexi Parker my first book by her she did a great job writing this story full of angst, intrigue, humor, heat, danger it hooks you from the start. I thoroughly enjoyed the jorney Kurt & Farrah along with loveable Barker K-9 dog that she trains to be his first partner from K-9 Unit at first these two are like oil & water she's very serious about her job he's more laid back. It was fun to watch Kurt & Farrah navigate around their feelings they finally give into as their chemistry they can't seem to avoid any longer, also they end going on a drug bust together after Barker K-9 sniffs out a druggie with a bag full of cocaine in the park. I definitely recommend to get this interesting, entertaining, delightful story with great characters so looking forward to reading more from K-9 Protection Series I thoroughly enjoyed this story it won't disappoint a must read for sure.
5 Stars I received a free copy of the steamy Portland, Oregon Police Department set The Price of Integrity: K-9 Protection Romance Series: Book 1 by Lexy Parker and this review was given freely. At first, I thought Kurt Willis was a goofy jerk but, his character grew on me. I loved the all-seeing, match-making Captain Prince and the sweet but efficient Barker. This is an easy-flowing opposites attract, advisory to more story that includes a good introduction to both the Portland, Oregon Police department and its K-9 trainers. Some of the police officers are very juvenile but overall, the characters are complex and realistic coming from less-than-ideal childhoods. Regimental K-9 training officer Farrah Moss was prepared to introduce her latest trainee Barker to his new partner but was not prepared for the self-entitled, unprofessional, laid-back southern California transplant Officer Kurt Willis or the ramifications from the drug case they accidentally stumbled into.
Perfectly written and told story. This is my first book by Lexi Parker, and I must say, I have got to read more. For Farrah, first impressions seem to stay with her, but the disgust Farah feels for Kurt quickly turns into something else. Farah is delivering Kurt’s K-9 dog and he and another coworker are goofing around, so Farrah immediately thinks he is not ready to be a K-9 partner. They rub each other raw just like sandpaper on sandpaper. But once they are thrown together on a case, sharing their lives, feelings change. This book is filled with drama, drugs, a powerful love and fear of what could happen. Now that Kurt has found Farrah, he cannot take the chance of losing her. She is “the one“ for him and he must have her in his life. She’s oxygen to him. What an excellent story. Filled with just enough tension to boil your blood, but then the lovemaking tells a different story.
Wonderful start to a new series. Farrah went from police cadet to K-9 officer to training officer. Her mother left when she was two and she was raised by an alcoholic father. She has taken care of herself from a young age and never had anyone she could depend on.
Kurt moved from California to Portland to become a K-9 officer. He had been a cop for five years. Raised by a single mother who worked two jobs. His new K-9 partner Barker discovers a junkie with a bag full of cocaine in the park.
You get action, danger, betrayal, drugs, a crooked politician and an amazing HEA ending. I was drawn into the storyline, turning the pages trying to figure out what would happen next. I voluntarily submitted this book review.
This book pulled me in. I immediately loved Farrah and Barker, though Kurt was a tougher sell for me. It was easy for me to connect with Farrah and her somewhat anal-retentive tendencies. Kurt's more laid back, happy go lucky attitude was more difficult for me to wrap my brain around, and I actively disliked him when he started the prank war. I really appreciated seeing them overcome their differences in order to work together. It made it that much easier to believe in the chemistry between them when they finally gave into it. I'm already fascinated by their supporting cast, and I can't wait to read more about this K-9 police unit. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Kurt has just relocated to a new town where he's about to become the newest member of the K9 Unit of the police department. Farrah is the trainer whose shoulders it falls on to introduce him to his K9 partner, Barker They don’t get along at first as she's very uptight and he's way too easygoing, but the more time they spend together the more their feelings grow, not always a good thing when working together, they both have to learn how to handle them and not allow them to affect their jobs.
It's an entertaining read which held my attention all the way through and kept me turning the pages of my Kindle, there is a little of everything in this one love, action, suspense, kidnapping and humour too.
An exciting new series by two of my favorite authors, Ali Parker and Lexy Timms. The Price of Integrity, book one in this new K-9 Protection series follows Farrah Moss, a K9 officer who trains the service dogs, Kurt Willis, a newly promoted K9 officer, and the canine they are both working with, Sergeant Barker. When Farrah is told that Barker is ready to meet his human partner, she has some reservations and they only grow deeper when she meets Kurt for the first time. Farrah isn't sure that Kurt is responsible enough to take on Barker, so she assigns herself to be Kurt's partner. What happens next is a whirlwind of action, drama and even a little romance. But in the end, will Farrah be able to put aside her feelings and hand Barker over to Kurt?
Farrah, Kurt, and Barker -- a love triangle!?! Farrah is the Portland police department's K9 trainer and Kurt is the intended officer for newly trained Barker. Farrah becomes rather anxious when Kurt seems to be taking his responsibilites too lightly. They just can't seem to get along professionally, but lust blooms between them. When Barker attacks a homeless man who happens to have a backpack full of drugs, Kurt wants the case to help build his career. Again they butt heads over the situation. This is a great story with romantic suspense and some terrific love scenes. I love dogs so this new series from the Parkers really appeals to me. I'm sure the peripheral characters need to have their stories told as well! Looking forward to reading them.
Romantic suspense with a sprinkle of cozy mystery thrown in
Farrah, a K-9 trainer, is unsure whether Kurt, a new transfer to the K-9 unit, is the right officer for the newest K-9 for the city of Portland. As the story progresses a difference of opinions drives them crazy, a new case dives them together, and the sparks that fly from the clash of their personalities is not the hottest fire they may end up dealing with. Lexy Parker springs into action from the first page. This author has combined romantic suspense with a sprinkle of cozy mystery thrown in.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This is the first book in this new series and it doesn't disappoint. Farah is enjoying her life and her job as a police officer now training K9 dogs for the police. As she heads over to hand over Barker her latest dog to his new handler she is not sure that the new officer is up to the job. Kurt is looking forward to his new partner but when the Farah puts up blocks to the handover he doesn't take it well. As they work together they get closer but a case they are working on takes a turn for the worse will they both be safe. A brilliant read with plenty of twists and turns and suspense but also a love that can't be denied. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Loved this book. I am a BIG dog lover...and this had me turning the pages. Even though it is more about Farrah and Kurt, Baker the K9 is a major part of this book. And who doesn't love dogs!!!
It is a great story about two strong people with strong characters who have to work together and both think they know what is best.
But like all great books, these two see more in each other than what drives them crazy about each other.
Loved the story line about the drug issues in their town, how they stumbled upon it and what happens when the dealers are not what you thought they would be.
You must read this book, it will keep you turning the pages until all hours.
Farrah is a K-9 trainer who is very serious about her job, the dogs she works with and the officers handling the dogs. Kurt is a transfer officer who has been dreamed of being a K-9 officer and he is finally getting his chance. Will Farrah cooperate and let him handle one of her dogs and become a permanent member of the K-9 unit? Kurt is very laid back and fun loving, characteristics Farrah believes are detrimental to a K-9 partnership. Will Kurt be able to win her over to his side? I loved this book, the characters and the story. The relationships between all the characters including the dog are amazing.
Farrah trains K-9's and does a great job at it. Kurt can't wait to get his first dog, so he can be a K-9 officer. When Farrah sees Kurt's antics, she doesn't think he's ready to take Barker from her. It's fun how she worms her way into Kurt's investigation. This story has a little bit of everything. Kurt and Farrah have a ton of chemistry, they fight, the love, and they get through some tough times together. Can't wait for the next chapter in this series!
I really loved this book; the title is perfect and made me smile and laugh :)
This opposites attract/office romance has a very gripping and intense storyline, with many exciting action and dramatic scenes. Both leading characters are passionate, have an explosive chemistry and great banter. The authors were very good at describing emotions and other situations.
I highly recommend this book; I will read it again for sure and can't wait to read other books in this series !!!
I received a free copy of this book from the authors and this is an honest review of it.
This is the story of Farrah and Kurt. She is a k-9 trainer for the police department and he's the newest member of the K-9 unit and is receiving her latest "star pupil" (yeah Barker!) as his partner. She instantly does not like him and questions if he is a good fit for their k-9 program. There is humor in their "opposites attract" interactions and as they spend more time together for work - the heat begins to ramp up and their attraction to each other becomes more obvious. Hello sparks! A fun story that offers a little but of everything - you will not be disappointed.
I have read many books by this author duo but I enjoyed this read. This story is about Farrah and Kurt. Farrah is a K-9 trainer for the City of Portland. Kurt is a new transfer to the K-9 unit and Farrah is unsure if he fits. This duo tends to have strong opinions and after a pretty big difference of opinion seems 6o be wedging them to opposite ends, a new case dives them together. When this happens, all the sparks that seemed to be contained prior fly out of control. I’ve always like Ali Parker, but I hadn’t read much from Lexi so this is a nice cross over.
This is the first book in the K-9 Protection Romance series, a new series written by Lexy Parker. Lieutenant Farrah Moss is a police officer, who trains dogs for the K-9 Unit. She is beautiful, strong, and smart. Lieutenant Kurt Willis is a police officer who's paired with Sergeant Barker, one of the dogs trained by Farrah. Kurt is handsome, charming, easy going, and determined. Their story is entertaining, and sexy, filled with action, and twists and turns. The story is well written and captivating. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Barker, Farrah, and Kurt Although Barker is ready for assignment his trainer for the police department, Farrah is concerned that Kurt isn’t ready for Barker. To make sure Kurt is assigned both of them as partners, so now it’s a threesome. However, it turns out that as their mutual attraction increases so does the danger they are facing in their efforts to rescue her father from his kidnappers. This is the perfect combination of crime story and romance that is hard to put down until the very last word. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Price of Integrity is the first installment to the K-9 Protection series from Lexy Parker. Farrah a no non-sense K-9 trainer and Kurt a laid back goofball must team up to a drug dealer. The problem is neither one of them can stand the other. However, what happens when chemistry and sexual tension become to much to bare? The Price of Integrity is a well written romantic suspense with unexpected twists, tons of steam, and well developed characters who will steal readers' hearts. I can't wait for the release of the next novel in the series.
The story of Farrah and Kurt told by them. Farrah is a K-9 trainer and Kurt is the officer to receive a K-9 officer as his partner however, Farrah doesn't think he's ready. Farrah convinces the Captain to allow her to go along on the next drug bust to watch how Kurt and the pup work together. Be prepared for your emotions to run the gamut in this book. I loved reading this book. Lexy Parker knows how to grab you and hold on and not let go until the last page. Great job.
I thought this book had a slow start to it but it didn’t stop me from reading it. About halfway through I got to where I didn’t want to put it down. While I understood how the author was trying to show the intensity of Kurt and Farrah’s building relationship it took until close to the end to feel their full connection.
I did love the action scenes dealing with drug bust and truly felt the intensity in the situation. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs and support of police.
