Yates Anderson, ex-military strategist, part-time assassin, and full-time flowershop owner is one hundred percent focused on finding his elusive mark, Mr Stevenson.

He has not gotten distracted by the young man who wandered into his shop and asked to die. He has not taken it upon himself to look out for this tragic case, and he wants nothing more than Dylan to stop lingering around his shop like a bad smell.

Except, he doesn’t smell bad, he smells like strawberries, and with each encounter, Yates wants to add cream to that equation. His big watering eyes and twitching eyebrows do things to Yates, dirty things. Dylan is pathetic, so pathetic, but what does that make Yates?

He craves pathetic, longs for it in his bed, and once it’s there, he’s not sure he wants to kick it out the next morning. He doesn’t do caring or emotions. He’s heartless, robotic, yet he’s falling for Dylan.

Dylan knows (or doesn’t) just how to play his one last remaining heartstring, and maybe, just maybe, Yates doesn’t want the lonely, cold existence he claims.

Maybe, just maybe, he wants Dylan to be his.

And maybe, just maybe, that one remaining heartstring is going to break…

This is a perfect example of the 'I hate everyone in the world but you' trope, and I absolutely adored it.

Yates's grumpiness, bluntness and glaring anger issues were absolutely hilarious.

The banter was great, and Yates bounced off of all the other characters amazingly; especially when it came to his vulnerable and 'pathetic' love interest Dylan, and his overly excited best friend Ranger.

Yates trying to fight off and reason away his affection towards Dylan was not only very funny, but also oddly charming and endearing.
He really did not want to have any "annoying emotions", and he was thoroughly pissed off at himself every time Dylan pulled on his “one remaining heartstring”. I loved it.

There's quite a bit of drama within the relationship here, and I do wish some things were handled a little bit differently, especially when it comes to the real conflict at the end, but the book still managed to remain light-hearted and humorous throughout.

I definitely liked the rest of this book a lot more than the actual ending, but overall I thought this story was fun, comical and sweet. I enjoyed all of it.

I can't lie and say I didn't inhale this book with a big smile on my face, because I definitely did.

Our favorite Flower Shop Assassins are back! Ok our only Flower Shop Assassins. But I feel like if there were others, these would still be our favorites. I went back and forth on getting an ARC on this one. To the point where I thought I lost my chance and then cried to Rebecca and then got my chance again and grabbed it. I had hesitated because I was afraid I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as Bye Baby. I've really stopped doing most ARCs these days. They make me feel too much pressure to like them and have simply started stressing me out. I'm weird. Anyway, I'm glad I did grab this one because, while I may not have loved it as much as Bye Baby , I still really, really liked it!

Note: This could, I guess, be read on its own. But I highly recommend reading Bye Baby first. Plus why would you want to skip out on Donnie and Elliot? They are so much fun!

I feel like Louise Collins has hit her stride with this series. I’m totally clueless as to why she doesn’t get as much love as other authors I see floating around here. I also recommend her earlier Adrenaline Jake series if you want almost non-stop smut and crazy OTT shenanigans.

If you read book one, you'll remember Yates as the flower shop owner who coordinates all the hits. He's grumpy, violent, a little bit of a sadist, lacks tolerance for idiots and has a penchant for flowered shirts.

Yates has a lot of scars and tattoos but I thought this guy was hot and I think Yates would like this shirt.

As Camilla pointed out in a comment below, I love my grumps you guys!

Unrepentant grumps:

Grumps who are only soft for their person:

Just give me a grumpy guy and I'm happy!

Yates meets Dylan in his shop. Dylan has come to Yates with a job request. Only it's not to kill someone else, he wants Yates to kill him. Yates can't bring himself to do this and is also annoyed that he’s turned on by pathetic Dylan.

He later helps Dylan in a different situation. Dylan, in return and to Yate's both dismay and reluctant arousal, attaches himself to Yates like a barnacle. Dylan is messed up in his head and Yates isn't exactly the most nurturing person. But he can't shake Dylan and it isn't long before he really isn't trying that hard to do so.

Honestly, this started a little slow for me but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh. Anything with Yates being irritated at catching feelings was the best. And shoutout to Ranger, who I kind of hoped would get the second book spot because I love him. He has been the funniest side character in both books. His story better be epic! It was also sweet but not sappy sweet. Poor Yates and his one remaining heartstring. It made me melt a little bit.

I would say the steam was a medium level. Satisfying. The side plot with Yate's current hit job was an interesting one. The guy was a real sicko. And not the good kind. You know, not a fun sicko. I loved catching up with Donnie and Elliot again. There was some drama at the end but for me it wasn't excessive and it came with groveling. I only wish there had been a longer ending after the action plot resolved itself. I felt like we didn't get enough time. Or even a slightly longer epilogue would have done the trick. Small niggles though. I ended it feeling pretty happy. If you go into this, don't take it too seriously or analyze it too thoroughly. Embrace the crazy and fun and I think you'll like it too.

I do have to wonder...who was the, "pathetic," one? Messed up Dylan or grump in love Yates?

Yates smiled. "I'm an assassin who prefers to run a flower shop. I'm an ex-sadist who's gone soft for someone.

**Also-tell me the four, clearly murdering, bakery brothers across the street are getting a spin-off series? Pretty please?

❝My point is what people want and need changes all the time, and what I want and need right now is you.❞
❝Me?❞
❝But I swear to God, if you break my heart again, I’ll kill you.❞

Okay, let me explain. Those two and something stars are for Ranger, Yates, Elliot, and Donnie only. Cause honestly, fuck Dylan. My god did I despise that pathetic piece of shit. Yes, I just called Dylan a piece of shit … change my mind.

This is one of those books where I liked EVERYTHING but the romance. And honestly, I hesitate to even call So Pathetic a romance. The romance on a whole felt very one-sided. Also, it was heavy on the smut, but … I kinda saw the smutty stuff as Yates's love language.

No, where this book lost me was Dylan. This kid was … absolutely horrible and you can't change my mind. I think where Elliot (from b1) walked the fine line between likable and unlikable, Dylan fucking pole-vaulted right over it. And I was willing to give this dick a pass … fucking twice. But the stunt this little asshole pulled at the wedding was it for me.

Because, despite what actually ended up happening he still choose to let Yates go. He said red and I never thought someone uttering a safe word would hurt, but damn did I feel pain. I just- I love Yates so much, and I was so angry on his behalf. So yeah. FUCK DYLAN. I don't like him. Elliot and Donnie walked so Ranger and his fighter could run. That's right, I'm completely erasing Dylan from my brain. He's not in the equation.

*takes calming breath*

Where this book succeeds is fleshing out Yates and Ranger. Both characters are fan-fucking-tastic. For Yates, we really get to learn a lot about how his mind works. He's the ultimate grump, but despite his hemming and hawing, he's actually a fiercely loyal man who loves his inner circle with the power of a thousand suns. I also felt like his relationship with [redacted] showed him that sex could be intimate, and that maybe, just maybe, that was something he needed.

Also, not this moment causing me to tear up at fucking three in the morning … totally didn't happen. Not. At. All. 😭😭

❝You’re not nothing to me.❞
❝We know.❞ Ranger snorted.
Yates blinked and risked a look at him. ❝How do you know?❞
Donnie snorted from the front seat. ❝You use your contacts to plan our hits down to the smallest detail.❞
Yates turned back to Ranger, who nodded.
❝All we’ve got to do is turn up and pull the trigger. It’s your way of making sure we’re safe.❞

The other standout character from this book was, obviously, Ranger. He's the embodiment of a himbo-golden retriever, and I love him so much. He provided the best comedic moments. I mean … the hen party was … ICONIC. And when he whipped out the tabasco sauce, I kid you not, I laughed out loud. Also, I loved the way him and Yates were always there for each other (begrudgingly on Yates's part of course). The way he'd regale Yates with his failed romantic exploits both made me laugh, and even more excited for his future book.

❝You’re paying for those.❞
Ranger looked down at the petals covering the floor. ❝I’ll tell you what, I’ll buy some roses from the supermarket to replace the ones I took. No one will notice.❞
❝Get out of my shop before I throw you out.❞
❝Okay, okay,❞ Ranger said, backing up to the door. ❝Later, bitches.❞
Yates tilted his head, glaring at Ranger until he registered his mistake.
❝Fine, ❛Later, bitch.❜ Is that better?❞
❝Just call me by my name.❞
❝Got it. Later, bitch.❞ Ranger slipped out of the door, flicked Yates the bird through the window, and disappeared up the street.

Plus, I'm excited to see if he recovers his memories. It'll be interesting to see how he reconciles the Ranger he was before with the Ranger he is now. Cause when Ranger gets angry … ahaha - watch the fuck out.

Oh and I can't not mention the ElliotDonnie cameo. Gosh I love these two. Their little cameo makes me wish we had gotten to spend more time with DonnieElliot in couple mode. Plus, I would have loved to have seen Elliot interact with Ranger and Yates even more. I don't know ... everywhere *side eyes hard* DyLAn failed, Elliot succeeded. Honestly my reception to the romance in So Pathetic makes me want to retroactively bump up the rating on Bye Baby.

Elliot shook Dylan’s hand too. ❝I’m Donnie’s fiancé.❞
Donnie smirked. ❝No, you’re not.❞
❝His husband then.❞
❝I like the sound of that, but still no.❞
Elliot stuck out his bottom lip. ❝Fine, I’m his partner and Yates’s failure.❞
Dylan [🖕] frowned, searching Yates’s face for clues. ❝Your failure?❞
❝He couldn’t kill me and ended up saving me in the end.❞
❝I was saving Donnie. You were just…there.❞
Elliot grinned. ❝Now we’re best mates too.❞
❝Not on your life.❞

To end this rambling mess of a review I just wanna say this, I loved everything about this book, EXCEPT pathetic asshole Dylan. And because of my burning hatred of Dylan I cannot, in good conscience, give So Pathetic more than two and something stars. I don't … I just *throws kindle* I cannot get over my burning hatred of that twerp. I- I just cannot do it. Maybe if he had properly groveled, or something … but idk. In my opinion, he did not love Yates as nearly as much as Yates loved him. I my humble opinion, he spat on Yates's love.

Still, I highly recommend this series. It's fast paced, has equal parts action, comedy, and romance. The dynamic between Yates, Donnie, and Ranger is fantastic. If you can overlook *gags* dYlAN then I think you'll really like this one. Oh and for a less ranty and rambling review, see HERE.

Highly entertaining romance between a “heartless” assassin and a naive boy.

This was all sorts of adorable and fun. This had grumpy/sunshine vibes, bluntness that reads like humor, and a strangely sweet D/s vibe that wasn’t quite that. It was such a weird mix of elements that shouldn’t have worked and somehow did. It was so entertaining that I’m willing to overlook the truly heinous actions of some characters (and I’m not talking about the murdering).

I’m really looking forward to Ranger’s story.

*** I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.***

So Pathetic is a fast-paced and enjoyable conclusion with our favorite Flowershop Assassins, featuring Yates the surly flower shop owner, who is a very guarded person and his cold heart begins to melt when Dylan, a 21-year-old going through a transition in his personal life is immediately enamored by Yates honest and blunt nature.

Throughout So Pathetic both Yates and Dylan are drawn to one another and a romance slowly and quietly blooms through a series of interactions that builds a wonderfully sweet relationship of trust and consistency. Unbeknownst to Yates, Dylan has a secret that threatens their relationship while forcing both to confront their own personal demons.

Overall So Pathetic is another fantastic entry in this series with some great appearances by both Ranger and Donnie who add a lot of life and humor to every situation. So excited for Ranger's story, which looks to be very.... interesting.

This almost became a 3 stars with that twist... almost. 😈😈

I loved this! It kept being weirdly funny, sarcastically brilliant and just lovely. The couple was well thought, when I read the blurb I didn't know how that was gonna go but Louise solved it beautifully. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Except that twist with the sister, I don't like cheating, specially done like this and when you hurt Yates? Boy u need a brain, but it was solved at the end so I let it go because Yates deserves it.

Loved it, CAN'T WAIT FOR RANGER'S BOOK!! CAAAAANT!!! *faints* 😵😵

Now some quotes because yes:

“I want a boyfriend.”
The wail of a dying man would’ve brought Yates more joy

“He called him a little shit the last time I spoke to him.” Yates
“Yeah, but it’s how he says it. His tone. The affection. The fondness. The love in the way he says it.” He sighed. “Little shit.” Ranger

"Tucked away in a dark, dank office, groping himself in front of a computer with a flower arrangement screensaver" Yates in a nutshell.

Still laughing. 🤣🤣❤️‍🔥

Really entertaining again - this author just matches my sense of humour really well.

Yates is just such a funny character to me, although I did miss Donnie in this one - I still keep picturing the escalator scene from his book and having a little giggle at it.

Ranger still isn't growing on me either...not sure I'm going to like his book all that much but I'm trying to keep an open mind.

I am really intrigued by the bakery boys though and I'm looking forward to reading their books.

i liked the first half a lot. funny, i laughed a lot, loved the pacing, good characters and the set up was amazing.

the second half left a bitter taste.
yates went from some sort of insta protectiveness to slightly more soft with dylan. i expected more. he doesn’t want to hurt dylan. the bar isn’t that low, that’s not enough.
dylan was interesting at first and unbearable by the end. is it cringe if i say that he was pathetic? or maybe that was the point? why would you write a character like that?
so many questions.

i also would like to add that if you’re an assassin and your skill is asking people to look things up for you so you can send threatening texts, maybe you should change your job.

3.5 stars rounded up

“You’ve never been afraid of me.” Yates murmured.
“Not until I thought you wouldn’t take me back.”
Yates tilted his head and brushed his scarred eyebrow into Dylan’s palm.
“Why didn’t I scare you?”
“I walked in on you jerking off to a meadow. How pathetic is that?”
Yates blinked, and blushed, and growled into Dylan’s chest. “Little shit.”

The zany quirkiness of the series continues with this second installment. It’s a weird amalgamation of romantic suspense/offbeat humor/ridiculously fucked up characters/and angst. This time Yates, flower shop owner and lead assassin, is back as grumpy and misanthropic as ever. And Dylan, a depressed, twenty-one-year-old drama student, keeps hounding him to kill him after he’s dumped by a shady ex-lover.

To say that Yates’s and Dylan’s relationship is comically unhealthy is an understatement. Neither of them is in the right mental or emotional state to be in a relationship, yet they find themselves stumbling along into one—Yates kicking and screaming and Dylan needily. Their early sex scenes are hilarious given their sexual incompatibility. Yates is into hardcore BDSM and scary sex toys, while Dylan is a sexually inexperienced, sensitive guy.

“He accepted Dylan’s version of kissing for as long as he could before surging forward with the aim to part Dylan’s lips with his tongue. To plunder that sweet little mouth. Dylan backed off.
A growl of frustration rumbled in Yates’s chest.
Why bother kissing at all?
It wasn’t a kiss, but a pathetic touching of lips. No tongue or teeth or groans. It was utterly pointless…”

Ranger, Yates’s sidekick, is a wonderful side character. He’s not too bright, wickedly funny, and desperate for love. I can’t wait for his book!

The best way to enjoy this is to go into it expecting an atypical, OTT, and entertaining romance.

Dang, what a great series! We meet the assassins again. The mc of this story is the ever grumpy Yates.

Yates only wants the no-string-sex and is happy to pay for it. He runs the flower shop, but he’s also an assassin. He can handle flowers better than people. Yates is a cold emotionless guy with just one heartstring. He has a strong opinion about a lot of things. He despises ordinary, hates pathetic people, and has a low tolerance.
He’s a bit surprised when a young guy named Dylan 🥰 asks him to eliminate him. Ha! Nope, that will not do. He rebuffs him.

Yates is gruff, grumpy and a ruthless man, but jeeez Dylan’s big eyes and lips are tempting, he can’t say no to Dylan who grows on him like a fungus. Dylan is way too sweet, Yates doesn’t do sweet, well… maybe a tiny bit. In no time doe-eyes Dylan got Yates around his finger. Yates hates it wholeheartedly.

There are a few different storylines and they come together fluently, absolutely marvelous done!

It starts all quite easygoing like a friendly flowing water stream, full of humor, sexiness, and nauseating (Yates here speaking) sweetness, but further in the story, the friendly stream turns into a swirling river.
From hanging comfortable in my chair to sitting straight up on the edge, what the f is happening!

The whole story is vividly written, entertaining af! I loooove Yates he had such great characteristics, and Dylan… read it yourself *big smile*.
Besides Donnie and Elliot, we meet, more prominently, Ranger again and omfg he’s so awesome and hilarious, but watch out, he’s lethal! I’m already excited to read his story!!

What a refreshing read, fun as in hilariously funny, emotional as in dripping tears, lethal as in… lethal ha!

This was so good! I enjoyed Bye Baby but the writing in that was a bit off for me. Here the writing and story flowed and it was so fun and entertaining!!!! I’m so happy I gave this a second try! My first try I stopped in the first chapter. Isn’t it funny how books aren’t always what we want to read at one time but when you try again you find the time is right.

I can’t wait to read Ranger’s story and then the bakery spin off!

I loved Yates! He is really just a softy when he loves someone. Dylan was harder to figure out but I felt like he was a perfectly flawed character who needed guidance and to find the right man. These characters aren’t good people all the time but I think that’s why I like them so much.

And Edna! The way the story ends is perfect!!!!!!

Yeah.😐

I absolutely expected more for Yates, a total badass, who survived the burning building, is scarred, rough, has no emotions to spare and is a contract killer turned florist.

There's absolutely no soul in his story, no flavour , you can't even tell Yates is a bad guy, if you're not paying attention to the boring subplot, that has no business being there in the first place.

I liked the fact that this story paid more attention to the MCs' developing relationship -if you can call it developing and if you can call it a relationship- but it was all wrong for Yates.

I guess the author wanted to go for "the gentle, young kid softening Yates' edges", but i don't feel like Dylan was doing his job.

Yes, I'm completely disappointed, but on the other hand I'm giving this book 2⭐, because it's a very long prologue to the book I've really been waiting to read , and that's Ranger's book.

Ranger has captured my mind since the first book and has been a very nice addition to this one, in fact, he made it tolerable.
Not only is he an assassin with a fatal head injury that completely changed his personality, but he's also a stripper! And a complete romantic.

I really hope his book doesn't let me down.

Wow… I don’t even know what to say about this book. It came as a surprise since it’s a new author to me. And pheww.. I liked the book a lot. It was so funny and quirky. I enjoyed it so much and I loved loved Yates and his friend Ranger. Their banter was the best and I laughed a lot with them, Ranger is a hoot! I liked Dylan too at first but by the end of the book I kind of fell out of love with him quite a bit. Him doing that to his own sister and then letting her go on with the wedding. He was a coward and a cheater. And breaking Yates’ heart by running after that asshole…yeah, that didn’t sit well with me.
What I didn’t like about this book was that it was ..hmm how should I put it ..too “sex oriented”(although dirty and hot ) . It was distracting for me. I like sex on page but don’t make it all about sex and lust . Anyway, it was fun. And good. And hot.

“I think I’d make a good boyfriend.”
“You kill people for a living.”
“Does that make me a bad person?”
Yates folded his arms and levelled him with a glare. “It certainly doesn’t make you Jesus.”
“Fuck Jesus!” Ranger pulled a red rose from a bouquet, and Yates flexed his biceps, flashing Ranger a macho display. He sighed as he spoke to the rose.
“I would, you know?”
“Would what?”
“Fuck Jesus, that’s how desperate I am.””

A good follow-up to Bye Baby!

I am so happy that this series is being continued! Bye Baby was one of my favourite reads of 2021, and I was desperately hoping that we would see more of the Flowershop Assassins.

So Pathetic started off as brilliantly as I could have hoped, I was laughing from the first line! The banter between Yates and Ranger is hilarious. I must say that I wasn't that keen on Yates in Bye Baby, but I loved getting to know him and his funny quirks: his prissiness over his flowers, secret pride over his award, and unreasonable hatred of Fiona Florist! The industrial espionage scene is gold!

We get to see much more of a caring side to Yates too, and the gruff, reluctant way he takes care of everyone around him. I am more than a little bit in love with Yates!

Dylan... I feel like I have a big question mark when it comes to Dylan, and I can't be quite comfortable about him. I loved his interactions with Yates, the way he was completely unintimidated by him and broke through his protective shields with apparent ease.

His actions, however, make me uneasy. I am an actions over words person, and for me, a person really proves their feelings by what they do not what they say. Dylan did not demonstrate the same level of commitment to Yates that Yates did to him. Added to that, Dylan is such a mess over his previous situation that I just can't feel that he's a good partner to Yates. Certainly he is drawn to Yates and gains comfort from him, but it felt to me like any port in a storm would do, not that he was 100% committed to Yates in particular.

Donnie and Elliot make an appearance, which was really lovely, but the way they function as a team really emphasised the lack in Yates and Dylan's relationship.

One thing that absolutely stunned me was that this book is set in Cornwall (or somewhere South-West). I had no idea that these books were even set in England, let alone in Cornwall. It wasn't until St Ives and St Austell were mentioned that it clicked. I guess the american-english spelling threw me off, but I'm wondering how I completely missed this in book 1. Now that I know, I really wish it was obvious and that the location played a part in the books. Somehow, Cornish hitmen are even funnier!

There is some action in So Pathetic, though not as much as in Bye Baby. I found this book surprisingly emotional. The sex was hot and everything to do with Ranger hilarious.

Speaking of Ranger, I cannot wait for his book! Poor Ranger is still languishing for love, and who knows what will happen when he finds it. Something tells me his book is going to be spectacular.

I'm giving 4 stars to this book because it was well written and I enjoyed the read BUT I didn't like Dylan and I don't approve of his relationship with Yates. In fact, I think Yates deserves better. I don't understand it but I respect the author's decision. I didn't sympathize with Dylan at all but that didn't stop me from enjoying the story so that's why my rate it's 4 stars.
Maybe it's just me but I feel like Yates gave everything and got hurt and Dylan only took more and kept asking. So unfair!!!
My favorite part of the book was Ranger though!! I can't wait to read his story. He deserves the world ❤️

5 stars for Yates coz he’s awesome but 3.5 stars rounded to 4 for the story because of Dylan.

The title is apt. Dylan is pathetic and Yates deserved better. I don’t dislike Dylan, he’s okay but I don’t love him at all. Maybe hopefully in time, Dylan would grow and evolve to be the best partner for Yates, here’s wishing and hoping.

I can’t wait for Ranger’s story!!!

I loved everything about this book, absolutely everything, except Dylan.
I can’t begin to describe the disgust and disdain I have for this “pathetic” man (and pathetic in a bad pathetic way).
Up until around 60% when the truth about Dylan’s ex came out, I loved him. Needy pathetic submissive little men are my kryptonite, but the moment I learned the truth, all my love for him absolutely vanished. I kept reading more in the hopes of it being some type of trauma or attack or something. I was like Yates will avenge him, but lo and behold, Dylan was just an asshole piece of shit. He is a disgusting manipulative man, and I hated everything he did.
Usually we read books about MCs who get cheated on, or maybe MCs “cheating” in arranged/unwanted/forced relationships, but as a readaholic, I don’t remember EVER reading about something like this.
I even hated Yates for accepting him back (I love Yates). He 100% didn’t deserve to have someone like Dylan. He deserved someone good, especially since he is such a grumpy person with high walls around his heart.
Yates broke my heart. He deserved someone sweet and caring, someone that gives him his whole attention and heart ❤️
The only reason I didn’t DNF was that I truly loved everything else about this book. It was hilarious, cute, entertaining, and sweet, but I especially loved the friendship between Yates, Ranger, and Donnie. It was so beautiful ❤️

”… We love you, man.”
Ranger squeezed his hand. His watering eyes made Yates’s sting. Even Donnie sniffled from the front. They shared meaningful looks, passing them around, letting them sink deep. He might not have had Dylan’s love, but he had these idiots, and that was enough. It was more than enough.
“Love you too.”

The little plot twist at the end about Edna warmed my heart 🥹 I adored every interaction between her and Yates ❤️
Anyway that’s it. I skimmed a few pages towards the end when Yates reconciled with BitchAss Dylan (which I usually never do -I never skim- but I just couldn’t handle it).
I will be reading my baby Ranger’s book obviously (I hope his guy will be good for him) and I hope I won’t be seeing any fucktard Dylan moments in there.
On to the next one!

We have an assassin who doesn't do feelings and the man who breaks down his walls. Unfortunately I didn't love Yates' love match, Dylan, as much as I did Donnie's partner Elliot. Yates was everything I expected him to me but more, and Dylan was pathetic and his whole backstory/situation made me eye roll. I didn't think he was worthy of Yates but whatever the sex scenes were scorching, and I'm looking forward to Ranger finally getting the love he desperately wants.

Favorite Quotes:

(Ranger) "I think I'd make a good boyfriend"
"You kill people for a living."
"Does that make me a bad person?"
Yates folded his arms and levelled him with a glare . "It certainly doesn't make you Jesus."

"I think I like the dogs the best."
Yates glared. "They're wolves. Big, vicious, tear-your-throat-out wolves."
"They look cute."

"I'm an ex-assassin who prefers to run a flower shop. I'm an ex sadist who's gone soft for someone."

I didn't like Dylan. The moment I stopped liking him was the reveal about the affair. The moment I didn't want him and Yates together was when he ran after him at the wedding. It wasn't a reflex decision because he deliberately used a safe word, besides I can't stand cheaters. The sister and Yates let him off easy, which doubly annoyed me in the next book. I liked how Yates obsessed over his flowers and how he supported his friends. The assassination was clever, the screwdriver not so much.

3.75 stars. This was great. I am going to knock off 1/4 star just because I never really warmed to Dylan. The writing is excellent and I’m excited for Ranger’s story!

Book number 2 in the series has us focusing on Yates and his romantic good times. Yates is the assassin ringleader who organizes all the hits for the boys to carry out. We thought he was a goner in book 1, but he made a glorious comeback and is back in the flower shop, bein a silly flower man.

This one was my least favorite of the series and I almost skipped it because I was really excited to read Ranger’s hijinks. That said, I started Ranger’s and made it a couple pages in and felt I missed a lot of context by skipping #2, so Ranger’s story saved the day.

This one had its moments and was a necessary component for Ranger’s story, so that’s why I read it. Yates didn’t make a huge impression for me in book 1, so I wasn’t excited for his moment, but it was a fine time. I really liked the story behind his hit and found that part of the story to be really really nice. I also really love that he loves flowers so much and doesn’t get teased away from wearing his obnoxious flower shirts. I LOVE Ranger, and I love their friendship.

Yates felt a bit less pervy than he was in book 1, which took a bit of his fun personality for me, but I loved his begrudging love for his found family. He played a fantastic grumpy softie. Dylan was kind of a butthead and I didn’t feel chemistry with the 2 characters at all. Yates was such an outward and sexual dom, Dylan’s super-sad-boy-who’s-afraid-of-kink persona didn’t work for me at all, and didn’t make sense to me as someone Yates would be into. He also kind of sucked as a person, and I don’t feel he was redeemed. I was hoping for a lot more from him and was let down. Their love story disappointed me, can’t lie.

That said, it wasn’t the worst thing ever and was worth the read to get to the final book, which was fantastic.
