Sometimes, getting what you want is the worst thing that can happen.
Dell Eckhart lives on the wrong side of the portal. The side where the ruin and devastation left behind by the war makes everyday life harder than it’s ever been. More than anything, he wants to win a ticket for passage through the portal. He’s running out of chances, but he’s not going to let that stop him.
He needs that ticket. It’s the only way to save the one person he truly cares about. There’s just one problem. That person is actually an android. And androids aren’t allowed through the portal.
Doesn’t matter. He’ll figure it out. Because life on the other side of the portal is perfect and easy, and she’ll be safe there. At least, that’s what he’s been led to believe…

Androids. You probably have a picture of some kind of human shaped yet obviously robotic figure in your mind. Totally understandable. In Portal the possibilities of what an android looks likes and their functions are more varied than you think. That's one thing I found very satisfying. Another is that while there are no slow parts in this book it makes you want to read as fast as you can to find out what happens.
I have to say I love a good Post-Apocalyptic story. This one went so far into the mechanisms and robotics of a world that at times I was bleary eyed. I did enjoy the story and the rapport between our MC, Dell, and his AI, K8. There are some fun moments revealed and going through the portal was over the top cool. Makes you wonder what will happen in future and/or alien worlds! If you like good Sci-Fi or the Apocalyptic Genre, you’ll have fun with this one.
Lots of action! Smart regular people against alien scum attempting to enslave mankind. A fast action packed read. Looking forward to more from this author collaboration.
A fun post apocalyptic romp that shows humanity in various states of emotional upheaval. Shows one mans capacity for love, loyalty and compassion for something different than himself. A good read. Looking forward to reading what these two authors together, can produce in the future.
Good sci fi adventure of the post apocalyptic type
The worldbuilding is a little grim, but the underlying message of hope kept me reading. Dell and Markus are both interesting characters, but K8 and Princess steal the story.
I was looking for a different twist to read in the Apocalyptic reads and this novel didn't disappoint. Loved the characters, and the alien species were unique.
