Trent Noguero plays as Vale dePardon in the massive, culture-redefinining deep dive VR game, Secret of the Old Ones. The game feels like reality, a better version of reality. The primary form of entertainment on Earth is to either play SOO or watch those who do.
After becoming a streamer and a professional gamer, Trent abruptly discovered how dark and ruthless the real world can be.
Now he does what he can to search for those who threatened his loved ones. His regular job remains growing his career as Vale, a member of one of the most powerful streaming parties in SOO. The new PVP event in Secret of the Old Ones offers unprecedented opportunities for player advancement and quest rewards.
But a growing faction of inhuman players are threatening human-controlled lands, razing cities to the ground. Human characters like Vale might actually lose the war.
And with everything else going on in his life, Trent feels a growing suspicion that something is amiss in the real world, something related to the game...
Blaise Corvin served in the US Army in several roles. He has seen the best and the worst that humanity has to offer. He is a sucker for any hobby involving weapons, art, or improv.
He currently lives in Texas, in a house full of enough geeky memorabilia to start a museum.
He likes talking about himself in 3rd person and posting pictures of himself holding tarantulas. Sometimes, he pretends he is not an idiot with a terrible sense of humor.
It's all very eccentric.
Blaise currently writes mostly in the GameLit genre and LitRPG subgenre, exciting new classifications of fiction where characters either play a game (usually VR), or live in a world with game-like elements.
Delvers LLC is GameLit, lightly LitRPG, mostly a Fantasy/SciFi Adventure. Secret of the Old Ones is hard LitRPG, complete with XP and leveling...plus has Lovecraftian and steampunk elements (because why not?).
Luck build finally progressed after many years. Not going in the direction I expected but definitely an interesting bent to the story. Hope the next book comes out swiftly
I have waited for years for this book. Blaise thank you. Also to the bicycle riding, harem writing, gun nut individual ( aka he who must not be name in the land of Amazon least we draw the attention of the book lord's ire.) who hounded Blaise. Thank you as well. Ok book.... Book good.... Oh you want details. The book that's a good job picking up from where I left off all those years ago. Honestly it's what I was wanting and frankly I'm chomping at the bit for more. On that note I hope that Jeff Hayes is lined up the audiobook. (I've got a credit burning in my pocket for it already.) I'm excited to see where the Eldridge horror invasion takes us. Seriously people I want you to think back when lit-RPG was young you were excited about the genre and not going oh God here's another one I hope this one won't suck because everybody is writing one because it's what's selling right now. This is that. Take the time reread book one read book two. I'm enjoying me with my bright torch and pitchfork.... Hmmm I mean implements of encouragement.... Again all seriousness we have to show him that we want this. Another multi-year gap for the next volume is not acceptable please please please. O.o I want more good stories that happen to be lit-RPG not lit-RPGs that might contain a story. You all know what I'm talking about you read some of them too.
Even with the fast pace, the characters developed and became relatable. The game world is extremely engaging for its relative rarity of horror and LitRPG. Plus the underlying menace outside of the game is very intriguing. Overall a great short read and I would love for it to be longer and the third book to come out. Have review this with the hope the author gives it some time and consideration.
I've read all of five pages. But i simply can't make this amazing author suffer with 0 stars. I've read SOO1 about 16 times. I've been practically harassing the author to write this book so he deserves it.
The writing is impeccable here. As I mentioned, I've only read 5 pages but i know the writing in the rest of this book will knock me out of the park.
I really like this series. Really can't wait for the next book!
I just recently discovered Blaise Corvin & so far I'm really liking his work. I don't really appreciate the Call of Cthulu aspects of this particular series but I like the story, the MCs, the intrigue, etc. otherwise. I highly recommend this series.
Even with the gap in time between publishing this sequel and the original, Mr. Corbin successfully keeps his character portrayals consistent; this being the second book our characters are established enough to take some time fleshing out backstory on the newer members.
A long awaited return to Secret of the Old zones after a long break the author used to focus on other stories. I’m certainly glad he did, though, it was a great read and my favorite kind of VR story. You’ll just have to read to find out what that is!
I loved the first book and had almost given up on a second installment. I like the authors other series as well, but like the LitRPG aspect of this series better.
SOO was so good when I discovered it in 2019. The fact that it got a sequel…wow was this book just as good. I had given up hope…now I cannot wait for #3. So good. Might be my favorite series of recent years. Keep it up Blaise!
Been wait forever for this to come out. We'll worth the buy and read. My only two issues are, 1 way to short lol. And 2, the ending, how could you do this to us now we have to wait for the next book. Pure evil lol.
I have been waiting for years for the next book in the series. Really cannot wait for the next book. Very interesting world and great wiring. Recommend it to anyone. Buy it don't wait for it to come out on Kindle unlimited
5 year wait and it was worth it. I can't wait for book 3, and Trent's further adventures.. It will be interesting to see where the story progresses to.
Character, check, love interest, check, mystery, check, eerie atmosphere, check. Everything i have come to expect from the author. I'll read anything he writes.
A significant improvement over the first book. It didn't feel quite as rushed. Still about half the length it aught to be. I finished both books in under a day.
