Meet Juliette Sanders, a fourteen-year-old from London, UK. She cares about her family, her friends but most importantly, she cares about her future and getting good results. She's a quiet girl, who is into her crime shows, books and tends to keep out of trouble.
Every year on her birthday, she receives a gift from a stranger. There is never a note, that is until her 14th birthday. After years of searching, she is finally given a clue as to who the secret sender is...
- Q
She is given a list of instructions to follow. Solve a case, she gets to unmask the mystery. Easy right?
Wrong.
In the midst of all this, Jules gets introduced to the American new boy, Damian Williams, who she finds incredibly annoying and extremely secretive.
What happens when she finds out that her mysterious new friend is close to the person she is trying to uncover?
But what happens when she realises she is too?

This book was a great introduction to the series. I loved the whole theme around this book. I nearly cried in the first 14 pages, grandad Norman! 🥺 Jules was an amazing character I honestly thought she was so mature for her age. I loved her friendship with Damian and I hope we get to see more of how that progresses as the series goes on. Her love for her family is something I admire and she would do anything for them. Rodger was just a no go, I hated him. Overall this book was just brilliant and I couldn’t put it down, I can’t wait for the rest! Torrie I’m so proud of you and you’ve done amazing with this first book.

Never did I expect to be reviewing a book where I'm mentioned in the acknowledgments but here we are.
For a first time author, I can tell how much effort and love Torrie but into this book. I'm extremely proud of how far she's come and it was a honour to be able to read it having known how much blood, sweat and tears that went into this.
The Lies We Tell is a story that you can get your teeth into, you never know what's coming next on the page and it just goes to show when you put in the work and effort, anyone can be an author if they really put their heart and soul into it.
Kudos to Torrie and I can't wait for the next in the series. Whatever will Jules get herself into next?

For a first time author, this book was very well thought out! With plenty of twists, turns and major breakthroughs I enjoyed reading it.
The characters were well thought out and easy remembered. The story line was crazy yet subtle enough to make it believable for someone who is only 14 years old.
I did notice a good few mistakes and I had the edited copy so perhaps a more in depth editorial process would be beneficial!
Great work Torrie on your first book. Can’t wait till The Secrets We Keep xx
I thought oh this will be good secret child to mafia boss left to clues to find out her real identity nah, it was a half assed plot to say the lest with weird vibes of an RH and most definitely not age appropriate for the FMC to be 13-14. Although it did feel like it was written by a 14 Yr old most of the time
oh my god i completely devoured this in less than one day i could not put it down i loved the story and the characters - it reminded me so much of agggtm mixed with the hawthorne legacy. i’m a sucker for puzzles and books that involve solving a crime/mystery in real time and this really ticked all the boxes. bring on the next one!!!
This book from start to end is AMAZING!! The plot of the books keeps you from wanting the put it down, the well-thought out characters in the books keeps you wanting to know more and the twists and turns the author throws in keeps you wanting more!! Overall amazing book and can’t wait for more!!!
