I thought he was just a dream. I was wrong… I thought he was a figment of my imagination. He wasn’t….
Nayla and her friends barely made it into the realm of Idia alive, only to discover someone was waiting for them. Someone Nayla has seen in her dreams. Someone she didn’t think was real.
Unable and unwilling to trust him on sight, Nayla reluctantly explores this strange new realm by his side. Even as his touch sparks something deep within her. Something she doesn’t want to face.
But evil lurks around every corner, and there is no rest for the chosen one.
The battle is just beginning.
Evil is running rampant throughout the realm of the banished, with unchecked bloodshed and carnage. Traveling between the realms, Nayla realizes that she must stop an old lover in order to save those she cares about.
With both realms hanging in the balance, tragedy all around, Nayla must stop at nothing to win. Or else she will lose everything.

First off, I want, nay, need to thank the brilliant author, Jennifer Waldrop ( @j.m.waldrop ), for the ARC for both books 1 & 2! This has been a wild and great ride!
Ok, now can we just talk about how brilliant a writer Jennifer is?! I'm still gonna!
This story starts where book 1 leaves off and sucks you right in 🌪 I really couldn't put this down, I HAD to know what happened! I read this in a day and everyone, that doesn't happen often for me, with a book this size. Just sayin'.
Check this out: You want to read a book with sass?Check! 💯 Badassery? Double check!😈 A bit-O-romance (love triangle💋?)? Oooooo yeah!❤️🔥 Phenomenal "side" characters? Absof*ckinlutely!! 💣 Secrecy!??? Mmmmhmmmmm! 🤫 Mind-blowing world building? She got you!🤯 Characters you love to hate and hate to love? Uh, yea! 🙄😂
If you like Fantasy, fighting, funny banter, snarky comments, some angst/brooding mixed with a dash of steam, then I highly recommend this series!

Really, what is stopping you from reading these books!?? Get 👏🏼 On 👏🏼 It! 👏🏼
Book two in the Skyborne series picks up where book one left off - which is perfect. We get enough of a recap to be able to jump right in - or even read this as a stand-alone. I’d definitely recommend starting with book one though, because without it there will be questions.
That aside, so much was packed into this book I don’t even know where to begin! We’ve got creatures, magic, battles, inventors - it’s jam packed! I loved it!
Parts of this were a little slow, but I got sucked in just as easy with this one as I did with book one!
My only complaint (and it could just be in the arc, idk) is that there was no real distinction between which world the chapter was in. While most of them followed Nayla, there were some with Emerson and it took a paragraph or two for me to sort that out.
Overall, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - thanks to the author for the ARC!
Realm of the Skyborne is a solid second entry to this series, and I absolutely cannot wait to see how the story ends when book 3 is released!
If you read Realm of the Banished, then you know what to expect here: cool fantasy worlds to explore, action-packed moments that keep you on the edge of your seat, and a few steamy spicy scenes sprinkled in for flavor. Realm of the Skyborne goes a step further in each of those areas, introducing a new world, bigger battles, and a little more of the "other" kind of action scene. Wink wink.
Realm of the Skyborne picks up right where Realm of the Banished left off, with Nayla & Co. arriving in a new realm called Idia. Nayla is shocked to see the man from her dreams, now in the flesh. She learns his name is Rhijn, and that they share a connection due to them each holding part of the ember. After exploring Idia and having some adventures, Nayla takes Rhijn and the other Skyborne back to her home realm to get the people there ready to travel to Idia so they can rejoin the Skyborne there after a century of banishment. Unfortunately, in the time they've been away, Emerson has not been idle, and the realm of the banished is, shall we say, less than peaceful.
If you enjoyed book 1, then you'll probably enjoy this one even more. It does a great job following through from things that are set up in the first book, while expanding on the worldbuilding in interesting ways. I found the ending very satisfying, while also making me excited for the next book to see how Nayla's story ends.
My only small gripe is that I feel like the big epic battle kind of wraps up too quickly, it feels a little bit "deus ex machina"-y. But only a little bit, and it doesn't ruin the plot for me. Without spoilers, there's a big thing that ends the fight which I felt kind of came out of nowhere. It worked, but I think it could have been better if it felt a little more earned.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and I will definitely be buying the third whenever it comes out.
Many thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC copy of books 1 & 2.
Realm of the Skyborne is ah-mazing. Waldrop seamlessly flows book one into book two while giving even more depth to her characters. Book one ended on a total cliffhanger as Nayla's posse attempted to escape total ruin. I love that she picks up exactly where she left off, I think it pulls the reader right back into the story rather than having us scramble for details from our last read. Nayla's complicated past and emotional scars are fleshed out as the story unfolds and she is faced with new personalities almost as large as her own. One of the best parts of course is the romance (steam alert!). One of my favorite parts of this book is just how complex Nayla is. It is so refreshing to read a female-identifying character that is not just chasing a guy but us trying to understand herself, save the realm, be a better friend, grow etc etc. I think these kinds of character complexities are what make characters in New Adult fiction more addicting than your usual YA. Waldrop's world building continues to thrill with new locations, societies, and magic systems that compliment what what was established in book one. I'm head over heels for Realm of the Skyborne! Loved it even more than Realm of the Banished. Can't wait for more...
Have you ever read a book and thought “that was good, but I want MORE”? And then have you ever read Book Two of that series and say “OMG HES THAT’S WHAT I MEANT”? ‘Cause that’s this book Right. Here. I liked the first book. I was into it and enjoying it but it wasn’t perfect for me. But then this one I devoured because I loved absolutely everything about it. It had the extra romance that I love to read. (And a little bit of steam to go along with it). It had the action and the fast moving storyline, which kept me hooked from the beginning. I loved the new characters that were added and loved seeing some of our already loved ones back. To me, things flowed more effortlessly with this book, and I think it mostly has to do with the history and stuff already have been fished out in Book One, so this one could focus more on the story. Which, I’m obviously here for! Some parts made me cry, which is a good feat when I feel connected enough with the characters to feel their pain. But overall, I loved this one so so so much and it is definitely a fantasy series you will not want to miss! Plus, I am now DYING for Book Three. I need it asap :)
* Come for the hot Idian, stay for the badass plot *
There are few stories that move me. Fewer that makes me cling on to it with my whole heart and soul. Jennifer's Skyborne series is definitely one of it. I was swooning over Nayla last year, and i am swooning over Rjinn this year. (I will not be ashamed huff huff) With a more intricate (and so so gorgeous) world building, fascinating development in terms of story, action that makes you forget that you are reading a book and characters that clutch on to your heart(and you won't care about the pain cause they are just so precious), Realm of the Skyborne is definitely a journey that I can say I enjoyed all the way from the beginning to the end. I can't wait for the magical finale that will be book three.
Please read this book!😭 the first thing that was great was it picked right up where book 1 ended so I could jump straight back in. This book gave everything that I wanted after finishing the first book and that was character/relationship developments. Nayla was still independent and knew what she wanted and was true to herself as she comes to terms with her fate. Also, the addition of some steam is always welcome 😍the attraction between Nayla and Rhijn was amazing to read as you could feel the tension through the pages! I’ll have to wait patiently for book 3 to find out what happens and would recommend this to everyone to pick up, such a good fantasy series!🤩
Sequels are hard to do but this one definitely delivered! I really enjoyed book 1 but this one, this one really had it all. The storyworld is still so interesting, the characters are all layered and keep you hooked. Nayla remains a badass with flaws who you root for even when you want to shake some sense into her.
As things slowly start to unravel, the action and banter (snarky comments are my fave 😍) never stops.
The main thing I wanted more of in book 1 was romance. And boy that I get it in this one. The tension. The pining while avoiding their feelings. The steamy scenes. *chef’s kiss* 🔥
