Pick up a copy of Bound by Silence today and get lost in this world of romance and mystery. * Bound by Truth * Bound by Silence (coming Jan 2020) * Bound by the Stars (coming mid 2020) While the characters overlap, each book tells a different, separate story with a happy ever after ending.
Suzanne Cass has always had a fascination with the tough resilience of people who live in our amazing red-dirt outback country. Much of her adolescence was spent working as a jillaroo in the Snowy Mountains, forming her love of lean, enigmatic, cowboy heroes in wild, passionate, dangerous stories. When not writing about the characters that inhabit her head, Suzanne can be found prowling the Perth beaches with her border collie, or yelling from the sidelines as her two sons play sport. Her debut novel, Island Redemption won the Romance Writers of Australia award for best unpublished romance novel of 2016.
Bound by Silence is book two in the An Island Bound series by Suzanne Cass. Keira Puana through that waking up the eruptions of Kīlauea volcano and her house in danger of the Lava flow. However, she was wrong. Keira became a target for crime syndicate because of her husband and needed to run. Dalton Kealoha found Keira in his shed and became involved in clearing her name and keeping her safe. The readers of Bound by Silence will continue to follow Dalton and Keira to find out what happens.
Bound by Silence is a fantastic addition to the An Island Bound series. I engaged with the plot from the first page, and I was unable to put the book down until the last page. I love Suzanne Cass portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout the book. The description of the settings by Suzanne Cass allowed me to picture Hawaii and the consequences of the eruptions of Kilauea volcano.
The readers of Bound Silence will learn about what happens to women in a relationship that has become abusive. Also, the readers will learn about the beautiful island of Hawaii.
Bound by Silence by Suzanne Cass is book #2 in the Island Bound series and while it can be read as a standalone, the two main characters, Sierra and Reed, from book #1 Bound by Truth, play a pretty big role in this novel and they will continue into the next, so I'd advise you to read book #1 first, saying that, you won't be lost if you don't but the first book was really good and lays some of the backgrounds for our characters.
In Bound by Silence, we meet Keira, who is living in Hawaii and who witnesses a crime, watches her house be consumed by lava and is now on the run from some seriously bad guys. I kept changing my opinion of Keira, I liked her, then I thought she was a spoiled brat, followed by feeling terribly sorry for what she'd been through with her husband and being able to understand where some of her behaviours and thoughts come from, then liking her again. I wanted her to show some of the mettle she'd shown at the beginning of the story when she starts out on the run, but now and again she slipped into complete victim mode, which annoyed me. But at the same time, she'd lived through a lot and now her life was in danger, she was allowed to act like a victim for a while.
The things that Keira went through with her husband were quite hard to read about, she suffered terrible emotional abuse at his and others' hands and that made her trust no one, while at the same time feeling that she was worth nothing. It is hard to fathom how people can blame themselves so completely for the way other people treat them when it is those people who are to blame.
I really liked Dalton, a bounty hunter, who inadvertently ends up rescuing Keira and becomes a target for the bad guys too. He struggled with what was right, morally and by the law, but chose to believe Keira and keep her safe while finding a way to prove she is innocent of a crime she's been set up for in order to flush her out.
Keira's sister Sierra and her now fiance Reed turn up in Hawaii as all this is going down, and using their skills as journalist and police officer, they go about tracking down evidence to help clear Keira's name and prove who the bad guys really are.
There are some pretty hairy moments throughout this novel, where things could go either way for all four of our good guys, and there is a surprising twist, proving you definitely don't always know the people you think you do.
I did enjoy the chemistry between Dalton and Keira and I liked how much restraint and respect Dalton showed towards Keira. Some of the banter was fun too.
An enjoyable sequel in this series, I look forward to book three when Keira and Sierra go looking for their brother who seems to have disappeared.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a digital copy in return for an honest review.
Bound by Silence #2 - This was an OK story, the continuous sexual thoughts in the wrong places and all through the book drove me nuts. Like Hollywood changing a rescue scene into a makeout session instead of beat feet away from danger. Here both are injured, on foot and running from the pursuing Yakuza, yet they notice how sexy the other is; oh, please. So much it became filler distracting from the bits of story.
Kiera continued to be an idiot with her thoughts and some of her actions. I was so bored with chapters 6 - 8, that I started skimming in chapter 9. I stopped skimming when the story improved but it is not on par with BBT. I found this book on Booksprout. 3*
Bound by Truth #1 - This is my first read by this author. I like authors from Down Under so I read this out of curiosity. The storylines were interesting and well done. The characters were also well thought out and realistic.
Emotions ran the gamut on various themes. The sadness of several happenings balanced with the good and happy events. The descriptions placed the reader in the midst of everything, yet nothing was graphic. A good, easy to read writing style. I found this book on Booksprout. 4*
This is the first book I’ve read by Suzanne Cass, but it definitely won’t be my last. This book had me flipping the pages, so I could see what was going to happen next. If you enjoy a side of suspense with your romance books, then you’ll really enjoy this book. Keira has just seen her husband murdered by Yoshio, a member of the Japanese gang, Yakuza. Now, the lava has taken her house, where she’s lived for ten years. If she wants to survive, she needs to make sure Yoshio doesn’t find her. She hitches a ride, but after an hour she gets out. She hides in a machinery shed. Next morning, while talking to her sister, Sierra, she’s discovered. She wasn’t as quite as she thought, lol. Dalton Kealoha is the man that finds her, he’s a bounty hunter. Just what she needs. I’m not going to tell what happens now, but if you like reading romantic suspense books, I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book to read and review. Suzanne sucks the reader in, within the first chapter, where you join the characters in a roller coaster of intrigue, romance, betrayal and desperately trying to stay one step ahead of those after them. Things get very messy when Dalton and Keira realise they are falling for each other and they are then are forced to make a horrendous life-and-death choice. This book is a thoroughly enjoyable, fast-paced read for romantics and action-lovers alike! I have to mention a caveat here: the book contains detailed sexual content, strong language and blasphemy; I personally do not enjoy these in books. I gave the 5-star rating for the story and Suzanne's descriptive narrative with authentic characters, however, as much as I loved the story, the caveat will likely mean I won't be so keen to continue the series.
I absolutely loved reading this book, and stayed up way too late to finish it, because I just could not put it down! The main characters were very interesting, and had enough emotional baggage to make you wonder how they could ever possibly work through it all. The author did a fine job of weaving the plot to bring these two flawed, but likable characters together to compliment and strengthen one another, and to give them a good start towards healing their broken parts. I could really feel their chemistry, as well as their inner struggles with trusting one another as the story progressed. While much of the goings on in the story were a bit unrealistic, that didn’t really matter to me, because it was such an exhilarating ride. I was provided an advanced copy of this book by the author (many thanks!), and am looking forward to reading the next installment of this series.
The opening sentence of Bound by Silence is incredibly dramatic, Keira Puana's house is about to be engulfed by a lava flow from an erupting volcano. Keira and her husband John are hurriedly leaving when murderous criminals appear, clearly knowing John. Managing to hide Keira, John confronts the intruders with horrific consequences. Keira has two choices, stay hidden and be killed by the lava flow or climb through a window and run. She runs.
The following day Dalton Kealoha discovers Keira hiding in his barn where she's spent the night. Although doubting the truth of her story, he decides to help. Soon the criminals are after both Keira and Dalton and anyone else connected to them.
With their lives under threat, Dalton's only choice is to take Keira into deep hiding, leaving their individual family members at a great risk from the criminals.
Set on the Big Island of Hawaii, this gripping thriller is a real page turner with a very hot ending.
ARC supplied by the author, this review is my own honest opinion and completely unbiased.
Keira watches as her husband is killed by a gang member of the Japanese Mafia. She's no time, or even inclination to grieve, as the volcanic lava is flowing towards her home. She rushes out and climbs, reaching a road, she manages to catch a bus. Dalton is home and tired after catching a criminal as that's his job as a bounty hunter. Suddenly his dog, Spike, barks and wants to go out. When Keira and Dalton meet there is a definite chemistry. Unfortunately her face has already been shown on TV as a murder suspect, Dalton, as an officer of the law, has to take her in. And that's when the fun begins! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Well this one had it all - romance, suspense, murder and a woman on the run. Bound by Silence is the second book in the Island Bound series with this one set in Hawaii whilst the first, Bound by Truth was set on Kangaroo Island. This series can be read as a standalone story but I think reading the first book helped as the two main characters Sierra and Reed feature in this novel.
The book opens with Keira watching her house being engulfed by lava from a volcano and we start to get the back story that her husband was not the man she thought he was and as a result of witnessing a mafia like killing she is on the run. Dalton, a Bounty Hunter stumbles across Keira in one of his sheds after his dog finds her hiding out. Determined to take her in to the Police he makes the decision to head to the local station and before he knows it they are both on the run.
I will admit at first when I read about the Japanese Mafia (not normally something I would want to read about) I thought mmmm not sure this will be for me but the book is fast paced and full of action and romance and I was hooked. I also loved that Sierra and Reed featured in the story - Sierra is Keira's sister and that their story continued with their Brother Logan's to come. Will they escape the Yakuza? Will they act on the attraction they are both feeling? You just have to read it.
Highly recommend it - especially if you love a good romantic suspense. Thank you Suzanne for the ARC for an honest review, looking forward to Bound by the Stars - where is Logan?
Keira couldn't be in worse trouble, and being thrust into the middle of the mess she's in was enough to hook me and keep me reading well into the night. When fate brings her to Dalton's door, the stage is set for a daunting attempt to escape the clutches of the Japanese mafia. Complicated by a surprise visit by Keira's sister, Dalton's young son and other precious relatives, and friends that may or may not be trustworthy, the suspense is riveting. With just the right amount of steam, and a realistic dose of honesty and vulnerability, you'll fall in love with these characters. Complex, tense, and highly recommended - but be warned that once you start reading, you won't be able to stop.
This is my first time reading anything by this author and what a book this is! It’s action and drama from start to finish. The plot is very well written, and the characters have depth to them and plenty of emotion. This is a book filled with suspense.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A suspenseful and action packed story with the steam of the Hawaiian jungle lending some heat and passion. The imagery of the volcanic eruption and the lava flowing was spellbinding and added intensity to the drama being played out in the midst of nature's majesty. Suzanne Cass writes very well and creates page turning and gripping plots. I thoroughly enjoyed diving into this one.
This has been a different trope for me, but what an opportunity. I absolutely loved the pace, suspense and plot of this book by Suzanne Cass. The build up in communication and trust between Dalton and Keira was perfect. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
This was a really great book. From the first page I was hooked. This book is very well written and characters are well developed. I found this book really hard to put down. I recommend reading.

I just did not buy the connection between Dalton and Keira and I feel like we didn’t really get to know these characters. It was super slow paced in some parts and the overall story didn’t capture my attention.
This book has it all...romance, danger, intrigue, and an exotic location. We first meet Keira when lava is over taking the house she called home and the body of her murdered husband. Keira is on the run for her life from the Japanese mafia. The mafia thinks she can provide access to the bank accounts her husband used to hide the money he embezzled. Dalton is a bounty hunter, former Navy, and father of a young son. He finds Keira hiding in his shed. He realizes quickly that she is the woman the news broadcast says is wanted for murder of a prostitute. She tells him that the murder claim is meant to lure her out of hiding so the Japanese mafia can find her or corrupt cops can turn her over to the mafia. He doesn’t believe her claims about the mafia until they come under fire. He manages to evade the gunmen, but they have to abandon his totalled vehicle and keep going through the jungle on foot. He takes her to a mountain hut his father once used to hide out in when he was trying to evade the law. Dalton promises that he will do his best protect her. Keira’s sister and her fiancé are on the island and looking for her. They had come to tell Keira about their engagement and the trouble she had recently gone through only to find out Keira’s home has been swallowed by lava, she is wanted for murder, and now she is on the run. It doesn’t take long for Dalton to admit to himself that he admires her strength and determination, not to mention her stunning beauty. Eventually Keira tells him about abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband and the terrible things he made her do. She is ready for his condemnation when Dalton surprises her and tells her that nothing was her fault, and he admires her strength and will to survive. The passionate encounter that follows reassures Keira that Dalton was truthful with her. Together they work with Keira’s sister and her fiancé to clear her name and protect her from the mafia. A betrayal leads to Dalton having to make an agonizing choice...protect his son or Keira. She leaves him out of the choice, and gives herself up to save his son and the boy’s mother. Dalton is determined to find her and rescue her. Will she be found in time? Will they get a chance to explore their attraction and connection?
This book is enthralling, and I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and swearing in frustration. I have empathy for Keira ... her horrible marriage that makes her feel unworthy of a good guy like Dalton. I have empathy for Dalton too, because of the terrible dilemma of having to make a choice between protecting the son he adores, or the woman his heart says could be his “one”. I highly recommend this book book! I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
