Sally was born in Perth in 1951, the eldest of five children. As a child she found school difficult because of questions from other students about her appearance and family background. She understood from her mother that she and her family were from India. However, when Sally was fifteen she learnt that she and her sister were in fact of Aboriginal descent, from the Palku people of the Pilbara.
This experience of her hidden origins, and subsequent quest for identity, was the stimulus for her first book My Place published in 1987. It tells the story of her self discovery through reconnection with her Aboriginal culture and community. The book was an immediate success and has since sold over half a million copies in Australia. It has also been published in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Her second book Wanamurraganya was published in 1989. It is the biography of her grandfather, Jack McPhee. She has also written five books for children.
As well as writing, Sally Morgan has established an international reputation as an artist. She has works in numerous private and public collections in Australia and the United States, including the Australian National Gallery and the Dobell Foundation collection. Her work is particularly popular in the United States. Her work as an artist is excellently described and illustrated in the book Art of Sally Morgan.
She has received many awards, including from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission. As a part of the celebration in 1993 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, her print Outback was selected by international art historians as one of 30 paintings and sculptures for reproduction on a stamp representing an article of the Declaration.
My Place remains her most influential work, not only because of its very wide popularity but also because it provided a new model for other writers, particularly those of indigenous background.
She is currently Director of the Centre for Indigenous History and Arts at The University of Western Australia.

🐰Kto z Was lubi Alicję w Krainie Czarów? Ja przyznam szczerze, że średnio za nią przepadałam w dzieciństwie, a nawet nie pamiętam za bardzo czy obejrzałam ją więcej niż raz🧐 jednakże zaległości zostały już nadrobione i mogę stwierdzić, ze bajka bardzo mi się podoba! Tylko, że czytałam/oglądałam różne jej wersje, a najbardziej w pamięć wryła mi się Alicja z wydawnictwa Vesper - ona jednak zmieniła moje patrzenie na królika i Alicje 😂 i ciężko mi na nowo czerpać radość z klasycznej bajki Disneya 😂
🐰"Alicja w Krainie Czarów" to historia dziewczynki, która pewnego popołudnia spotyka białego królika i widząc, że ten bardzo się spieszy, postanawia zobaczyć dokąd zmierza. Gdy ten wskakuje do ciemnej nory, pech chce, że ziemia pod Alicją naraz się osuwa i dziewczynka wpada do dziury. I tam przeżywa naprawdę ciekawe, a jednocześnie dziwne przygody... Czy to picie popołudniowej herbatki, czy spotkanie latającego kota - wszystko nieprawdopodobne, ale też intrygujące...
🐰 Kolejny piękny klasyk, w przepięknym wydaniu! Tym razem niebieska okładka ze złotymi akcentami, która dosłownie mnie urzekła 😍 Oprócz samej historii Alicji, na końcu książki mamy dodatkowo informacje o twórcach, grafikach i osobach, pracujących przy tworzeniu tego klasyka. Piękne ilustracje, szkice koncepcyjne, czy już kolorowe obrazki - wszystko to jest znakomitym smaczkiem, dla osób lubiących poznawać daną historię od podstaw! A oryginalna szata graficzna, nie pozwala przejść obok tej książki obojętnie!

Większość osób kojarzy dziewczynkę imieniem Alicja, która odbyła podróż przez niezwykły świat. Pomysłodawcą i twórcą głównej bohaterki był autor powieści Alicja w Krainie Czarów i Po drugiej stronie lustra, Lewis Carroll. Potem za robotę wzięło się studio Disney i przedstawiło nam obecnie jeden z najpopularniejszych wizerunków postaci wiodącej.
Alicja jest rezolutna, nie rozumie wielu spraw dorosłych lub uważa je za dziwne i nudne. Wszystko zmienia się, gdy spotyka białego, elegancko ubranego królika, który ciągle się spóźnia. Rusza za nim w pościg i ląduje w Krainie Czarów. Tam co chwila wpada w kłopoty. Natrafia na wiele niezwykłych istot takich jak: Szalony Kapelusznik, Absolem czy Kot z Cheshire. Zostaje zmuszona do gry w krokieta z Czerwoną Królową, skracającą o głowę wszystko, co możliwe.
Książeczka, którą dostałam od wydawnictwa Olesiejuk, pochodzi z serii Animowana Klasyka. Wydanie jest przecudowne. Font zaprojektowano z myślą o najmłodszych. Litery są duże i przejrzyste. Tekst wydrukowano na pożółkłych kartkach. Dodają one nieco stylu vintage. Między niektórymi wersami umieszczone zostały ilustracje rysowników Disney’a, a także różne, niewykorzystane kadry. Wszystko wygląda estetycznie, a dla dzieci — zdecydowanie interesująco. Ponadto na końcu są informacje o pracownikach studia. Jestem również zachwycona prześliczną okładką w stonowanych kolorach.
Książka jest przeznaczona dla najmłodszych, na co zdecydowanie wskazuje jej forma, ale szczerze polecam ją również starszym. Poza tym takie piękne wydanie będzie cieszyło oko na naszej półce i zachęcało do spędzania czasu na lekturze.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my daughter's favorite stories. This is a beautiful book, with amazing art in all different styles. It is a very truncated version of the story, so you miss out on some of the wordplay which makes Alice so fun, as it is too busy just trying to get Alice from place to place in only a few sentences.
I also like how at the end where it describes where each piece of art comes from.

March 8, 2024A very cute, easy read. I received this as a gift for Christmas with the intent of keeping it for my future children, but I could not help myself from having a read in between novels. A lovely book that I look forward to sharing with my children in the future.

August 17, 2025It’s a classic for children so I can’t really complain however I can’t imagine imagining something like this to write as a story so the author is very imaginative!
