Broken Lovers

Everyone deserves a second chance.

Cassie
Luke Steele was my first love, my first everything. But then he chose the life of a soldier over loving me. Smashing my young heart into a thousand pieces. Leaving me broken. He moved on so easily, I needed to move on, too.
First step was landing a corporate job in Manhattan, second step was moving in with my best friends Jasmine and Lily and third step was dating again.
Until fate had other plans.

Luke
I can never forget the look on Cassie’s face when I left for the Army after graduation. But I had to go. Not once, through all those years did I ever forget her. Her face was the only thing keeping me going, as I lived through the hell of a war that broke me. Now I’m back in civilization running my own cyber security company, in Manhattan and the last person I ever thought I would see again, was her.
One meeting and everything between us comes flashing back, our chemistry burning as brightly as ever.
Fate has given me a second chance and I'll stop at nothing to get her back.

Broken Lovers is book one in the Lovers in the City series. A full length sexy standalone second chance romance with a billionaire damaged ex-military hero and a smart strong heroine. Guaranteed HEA and NO cheating. Adults only.

sorry, but i'm the minority here in terms of the rating...

i don't hate the book, i just feel that it's pretty predictable. and predictable equals to boring in my opinion. too smooth sailing somehow. and repetitive in certain things, like the way the characters keep complimenting on how beautiful or how hot they look.

wouldn't be continuing the series. since i don't enjoy reading it.

Ex-Military. Billionaire. Second chances. Some of my favorite things in a book! I received this book as an ARC and read it all the night it came!
Luke and Cassie were high school sweethearts. Until Luke unexpectedly joined the army throwing their future plans for a loop. As teenagers this was too much a hurdle. Fast forward 10 years and add in some meddling mothers, you get the perfect storm for a second chance at the once in a lifetime connection.
I really, really liked Luke’s character. There was a lot of development and I felt his emotions with him. I was hoping Cassie would be a little stronger lead female character but she was a little less developed with not as many emotions as Luke. Which ended up working in the end for the relationship! I feel like Luke needed someone that would be able to handle his emotions without their own!

Like #2 in this series, the author uses flashbacks to tell their past stories. I really dislike them. 70% in and where's the drama? There is no depth to this story. The writing is juvenile. #1 and #2 tell the same story with different women but the same scenes with Luke and then Blake. The title is "Broken Lovers"; yes, they were broken because Luke broke it off with her, broke her heart. But 8 years later, they meet up a couple of times have a few drinks and dinner, then all is magically forgiven. I highly rated 2 other of her books, so I am very disappointed in #1 and #2 of this series. DNF at 75%.

I liked the concept of the book…. Characters and storylines, I had to put it down a few times because some of the military related scenes hit too close to home (my husband’s unit was ambushed in Afghanistan with RPGs, and sustained injuries. The author did a good job of detailing those scenes.
I give this book four stars because some of the timing felt off. The amount of time they had been out of high school vs. his three tours, plus another five years after he got out of the military. The timing just seems too rushed for that.
Overall, really good book, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

A great debut story. The characters were likeable and certainly brought out my emotions. The events that happened were believable and I could empathise with the reasons for the actions.
Cassie and Luke were obvious soulmates from the start. Their history together was sweet and passionate. Luke really did wear his heart on his sleeve but had a lot of making up to do to Cassie.
I loved their side characters and was invested in their relationship.

Sedinf chance romance

I really enjoyed this book, was really pulled in from the start PTSD is a hard thing to combat and the good love from the right person can do so much to the person suffering. I'm so glad Luke fought for what he truly wanted and so glad Cassie was the strengthe Luke needed. Looking forward to hearing more of their love story in the following books, no doubt they will be involved.

I got to chapter 5 and I couldn’t keep going. The way this book is written feels so elementary. The way the characters think and speak seen unnatural to me. It makes the reader feel like they’re being told the story, not reading from a characters perspective. The quotes below are thoughts the main heroine had. (These aren’t exact quotes but they’re pretty on the nose)

‘Uh oh! My alarm is going off.’

‘I can’t believe my mom passed my phone number off to Luke!’

Broken Lovers is about high school sweetheart Cassie and Luke. They had been dating for 3 years when he broke her heart via letter to enlist in the army after graduating high school. Fast forward 10 years and add in some meddling mothers they both meet again. Cassie has moved to New York to start a new job as a project manager. While Luke co-owns a cyber security company in New York. A second chance romance filled with emotions, passion, PTSD and romance.

Cute

The story is cute and deals with the issues soldiers face when they are in the middle if it and back home. It also deals with the loved ones they leave behind. Luke and a second chance Cassie are lucky that they can. It's a little spicy and a revelation of first love, true love. Enjoy.

Second Chances

What a great story. I love that even though it was hard on both of them, they were able to grow up. Luke's intentions were honorable even if his execution was lacking.

The fact they found each other after so long was kismet. They both needed explanations & closure for them to be able to move forward.

Good

I thought this was a good book. So why the lower score you might ask.

There was very little drama. Which you would think was good but it was about 50% through and they were together and I was like what is in the other 50%.

I thought about DNFing. Not because of the writing or the characters. Just nothing really to hold my interest.

Sweet book second chances can happen

Sweet book showing second chances can happen. A rocky relationship, past hurt and trust issues just in the first few chapters. His PTSD and nightmares and her love and trust in him shows everything can turn out well. Great read standalone and fun storyline.

Enjoyed

It was a story of a couple luke and Cassie and how they found each other again. Past mistakes were forgiven . Then a tragedy for Luke and all his nightmares return. Cassie is one very strong lady determined to get her hero back. Good reading.

Well-written mostly, but I found the writing level too simplistic (?) for my taste. While I liked the book I'm at a loss to understand the raves it seems to have received. Hard to put one's finger on it, exactly, but there's just something lacking here. Likeable characters with some depth. Not much depth for the supporting characters. In sum, it's a nice first effort, I'd like to see how Ms Lane develops, but not at all worthy of 5 stars.

great read

Wow this book got me all in my feels! I love second chance romance books and this one definitely fit the bill. I love the realistic nature of a broken person fighting panic and ptsd and still trying to love and being loved through it. Great read.

"Broken Lovers" was a sentimental novel. The moving page-turning plot was filled with a couple's second chance at love while maneuvering through PTSD and panic attacks which were at the forefront of their relationship. The high school sweetheart protagonists, Cassie and Luke, were ideally suited for each other and emanated chemistry. Consequently, the narrative was touching, and I liked it.

Simply beautiful

How amazing to see these two find their way back to each other. Cannot mess with fate. Left with a smile and belief their love story has really just begun.
