One night of lust could turn into an eternity of love. But desperation for vengeance could destroy their chance at happiness.
After a life of poverty and abandonment, Charles Nolan sought normalcy and stability. He controlled every aspect of his life with fine-tuned precision. Everything was orderly. Everything had its place. Then entered a man, during a one-night stand, who shattered his carefully constructed walls and heart with little effort. But there was a darkness surrounding him, bringing out Charlie’s own pain. Could Charlie get over his past? Could he allow this man to get close without crushing his soul? Or will his fears of abandonment take hold?
Brady O’Callaghan survived his father’s abuse, the man who ruled the Irish mob with an iron fist. But that didn’t compare to the loss of his lover. Suffering from grief and PTSD, he lived as an empty shell, alone, until Charlie danced his way into his life. Finally, Brady saw the light at the end of the tunnel. A glimmer of hope. Could he push past his grief and find love again? Would his enemies take away someone he cared about once more? Would he finally get his retribution?
A dark Irish mafia m/m erotic romance with HEA. No cliffhangers.
Each story in this series can be read as a standalone, but it will be better understood and appreciated reading in order. You will get a better feel of the characters starting from the beginning.
Courtney W. Dixon loves to write steamy hurt/comfort romance, giving her characters challenges, struggles, and sometimes trauma... Fine, a LOT of trauma. Her team teases her about charging her for their therapy bills after reading one of her books.
She loves to add variety and multiple tropes in her stories along with different types of dynamics/relationships. And she writes her characters as having flaws, imperfections, and who don't always do the right thing. Humans are sometimes frustrating, never perfect, and make a lot of mistakes in their lives. Courtney enjoys pushing her characters, making their HEAs so much more worth it when they get there. Mental health is a big feature in her books.
She loves her coffee ice cream and popcorn a little too much. And her cat, Olly, is her co-writer, where he sleeps on an ottoman under her desk as her muse. Actually, he's rather useless, but he's adorable.
Brady and Charles's story is one intense and emotional story! From the very first chapter Courtney Dixon had me squirming in my seat from how dark the opening scene was. It did a great job of showing us where Brady is coming from!
The author turns up the overall darkness of this book, and I am HERE FOR IT! 🙌 She also turns up the heat!
These boys hold a special place in my heart. Neither Charles or Brady was looking for love but fate has other plans. It's clear these two are made for each other, but obstacles keep getting in their way, and they both have a lot of things to work through. For the longest time these guys avoid their problems, and it makes things all the more satisfying when they have to confront their issues!
There's a lot of things moving in the mafia world as the guys work on their issues. It keeps the story feeling fast paced and fresh, and keeps me eagerly turning the page! I couldn't get enough of these two!
Overall Brady and Charles have such a satisfying story! Courtney Dixon's first foray into the MM romance world is a delight, and the overall Kings Of Boston story continues to get more and more fascinating. This is a fantastic read from start to finish!
Loved, loved, loved Charles and Brady!! They both had gone through so much and came out stronger for it. Brady had been forced to watch a traumatic event and came out with PTSD. Charles is working as a PA for an O’Callaghan brother, Irish Mafia. The story was charged with emotion, chemistry, heat and steam. The story was fast paced, kept me turning the pages. Overall, a fantastic read! The story was really well written, the fast pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
There was a lot going on here. A lot. I almost feel like we got several stories in one. Charles and Brady were like two forces colliding into one another and leaving no survivors in their wake.
Theirs was a tumultuous road. Both had so much baggage with them. I actually quite enjoyed seeing how each man dealt with their issues. Brady by locking it up tight and never acknowledging it. Charles by making himself into the man he always wanted to be. Their relationship was fiery and sexy. I really liked these two together.
My issue with the book starts with all of the telling and not enough showing. We get told how things transpired instead of being there as it happens. Several plots points were basically just summaries of events we don’t get to see happen. The dialogue was a little stilted at times and I couldn’t connect with the emotion of the moment. The author also chose to use the verbiage “clean” when referring to the STI/STD status and I find it so antiquated. People living with STI/STDs are not “dirty.”
Overall, I enjoyed the book and the relationship that developed between Brady and Charles won me over. All the other filler in the book just fell by the wayside for me. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
*I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This was my second straight MM book. It being in the mafia world was such a new idea. I have not read any MM mafia or heard of any.
These two men are WILD!! 😍 Their love for each other is just so intoxicating. There is so much passion with them and the emotions are just so raw and real.
I cried so many times with these broken men. Poor Brady and Charles both have so much in their past that causes so many insecurities in their present. They both fight so hard for love and each other.
This book was beautiful! It was gut wrenching, funny, dark and so damn sexy! This is book 2 in this Irish mafia world, and it is standalone but reading the 1st book makes this one so much better. Charles and Brady killed me! Their attraction to each other is something else… they’re pasts are getting in the way but I love the way they navigate all their trauma and current feeling. Courtney slayed with this book and I can’t wait to see what’s next!!
*Please check the trigger warning before reading In Retribution. This book includes homophobia, torture, PTSD, childhood molestation, homelessness, violence, Irish mafia, drug abuse, explicit language/content, pro*titution, grief, etc. that may be triggering to some*
In Retribution is book 2 part of the Kings of Boston Series. It is not necessary to read book 1, but I would recommend it for the full experience. For this being Courtney Dixon's first MM book, I can honestly say it was really good. Charlie Nolan and Brady O'Callaghan fit together like two puzzle pieces despite their constant fears invading their hearts and thoughts. Each one and their background stories balanced the other one out perfectly. But thankfully they were able to overcome them, learn to communicate with each other, and finally find their well-deserved HEA.
After Brady is forced to witness a very traumatic and painful event, where he is unable to do anything about it, he is left with debilitating PTSD, a broken heart, an immense amount of grief, and the need for retribution. That grief causes him to isolate himself from those he loves in fear that that haunting night will reoccur. Until one night he feels an inexplicable pull toward a club. Deciding to go with the flow, Brady enters The Vault, where Charlie immediately catches his attention.
Charlie, who has had a harsh past has now finally found stability and is working as a PA to one of the O’Callaghan brothers. Being very well aware that he is working for the head family of the Irish mafia. One night he decides to go out and let the stress of work behind for the night, he enters The Vault. At first, he believes the night will be a fail when no man catches his attention until a certain redhead catches his eye. Deciding to be confident, he approaches the "Red God" aka Brady, who rejects him at first leaving Charlie stunned. Charlie then gets into some trouble, but Brady is there to quickly help him, leading to a night they both are unable to forget, officially marking the beginning of their story filled with lust, fear, inexplicable connections, and love. After that night, both Brady and Charlie must learn to trust and not let their fears ruin the love and connection they feel toward each other.
I must admit, I would have liked to learn a bit more about Brady's past in detail. And for there not to be as much miscommunication between both MCs. I understand they both had legitimate fears of abandonment, but there were times they could have easily communicated and helped strengthen their relationship instead of making empty promises and running. It did make it a bit frustrating to read when one blamed the other for running and not listening, then turned and did the same thing when a new argument took place. Other than that I enjoyed reading Charlie and Brady's story.
In Retribution, the second book in Courtney Dixon’s Kings Of Boston series, was absolutely an unbelievably amazing dive back into the Irish Mafia that I never wanted to end! Dixon hit it out of the park with this deliciously dark mafia story packed full of off the charts chemistry, hot steamy passion, dark vicious violence and of course tons of angst all around! Just be sure to check the trigger warnings before proceeding because there is definitely enough trauma and pain to make this one an emotional ride.
Brady O’Callaghan, the second in line to run the Irish mafia, is still dealing with the trauma of witnessing his fiancés torture and brutal murder 2 years ago and has basically withdrawn into himself—solely focusing on vengeance and destruction. Charles meanwhile is the PA of Ronan, Brady’s brother and the Don, and has his own troubled past that left him with his own emotional damage and issues that he’s dealing with as well. However when the two meet…even their past pain can’t hide their instant connection and attraction or stop their worlds from colliding.
Both men, equally scarred and hesitant to form connections due to their pasts, are reluctant to commit, but one night changes everything…making for a truly emotional journey of growth, acceptance and love. Needless to say Dixon is a master at creating strong demanding characters that captivate the reader right from the start, making you fall in love with each of them. The family bonds, the friendships, the sexual tensions—everything is so well developed and masterfully created with so much depth and emotion they truly feel like they’re your friends and you can’t help but feel everything right along with them.
This book was so unbelievably beautiful and heart wrenching! From one page to the next, this story pulled you in to the dark world of the Irish mafia and never lets you go. Charles and Brady’s story was so gut wrenching and painful at times I thought I was suffering right along with them. Right from the start you know it’s going to be an amazing ride as their attraction to each other was completely off the charts! The question is, will they each be able to overcome their own inhibitions, doubts and traumatic pasts to finally realize that their future is right there waiting for them.
Overall, if you’re a fan of dark mafia m/m romances then this is the one for you! This is the ultimate story of two broken souls coming together, realizing that their “broken” jagged edges aren’t imperfections, but rather perfect for each other. I loved this story so much and cannot wait for book 3! Dixon is a true mafia powerhouse!
Book 2 of Dixon’s Kings of Boston Series is a MM mafia romance. It can be read as a standalone but it would be better preferred if you read book 1- In Silence.
This was my first M/M romance book ever and I really enjoyed it. You are first introduced to Brady and Charles in the action packed book 1 of Dixon’s. But book 2 goes a bit darker- and it’s sooooo good.
Brady’s lover is brutally murdered and has kept those horrific memories pretty close to his heart- basically tearing him apart from the inside out- still fulfilling his job for the Irish Mob as their “Negotiator” Brady still suffers terrible PTSD from that one night. The only thing on his mind is vengeance. Brady is a phenomenal character and you can feel through the pages how much he’s been through and always feeling never good enough for anyone. He’s felt as if he’s met the love of his life and he was taken away from him due to the fact of his ties with the Mafia. And you can see that this life for Brady is something he struggles with. As much as he loves his family and will do anything for them…. He can’t help but want something more.
Charles- works as a PA for Ronan-(older brother of Brady). Never once hiding his sexuality, Charles walks around proud with his nails painted and dressed to the T. But Charles always hasn’t had it easy and his dark past still sneaks up on him from time to time. Charles is a fabulous character- you immediately fall in love with everything about this sassy blonde- and yes I said Sassy because while he’s always got a nice colored manicure and some sexy lingerie- (you’ll see once you read) but even though he’s sassy Charles has a difficult time getting close to those that might be more than a one night stand.
Fate , brings Charles and Brady together and even though they’re opposites… what’s that saying opposites attract!? Well these two men definitely do! And the struggles they go through has a couple will rip your heart out and have you cheering for them throughout the entire book. There’s violence, sex, and more violence. But it’s good. If you’ve never read a MM book and you enjoy mafia reads…. I’d start with this book!
Where do I start with this one? I will start by saying I feel awfully conflicted about In Retribution. Did I enjoy reading this? Yes! Unfortunately though there was several things things that didn't work for me as a reader, the constant use of the Nickname (Red God) just made it a tedious read for me, once or twice sure! But it was in every other sentence Charlie had. Secondly, I felt there wasn't a lot of Character development. I wish the Author had given us a bit more of a connection to the characters, we hear about Charlie's background but I really think a little past/present time hop would have worked wonderfully. Although there were very dark subject matters in In Retribution i feel like it was a very fluffy read, I wish there would have been more action/ dark feel to the book but that is just personal preference, i like dark Mafia Romances. This would be perfect for somebody who wants a mafia romance that's quirky and light read but still has some darkness to it. This book deals with triggering subject matters/most appear off page, the two main characters discuss their past trauma.
Overall I did enjoy this read and like I said I think it's more personal preference that it didn't quite work for me. I would still recommend it. I absolutely loved Charlie and Brady as a couple. I think a bit more story pacing and character development was needed that's all.

Absolutely amazing!!!! Please check the trigger warnings!!! This is not for everyone and i loved it!! Courtney did an amazing job in telling Brady and Charles story.
From the first chapter I swear you will be hooked and turning those pages just as fast as the next. I felt so much for Brady throughout this whole book. And Charles just the same.
Both have such a dark past that they are not looking for love. Will both of their demons come back to haunt them? Will their pasts keep them from being together? Will Brady’s harrowing past keep him from doing his one and only job?
You will not be disappointed in this book! The spice is soooo good but yet not enough. I so wanted more but loved the story as it was. I loved how Courtney did not just write for the spice, this was such an amazing story i would have read it without all of the alpha Red God hotness. Chapter 16 absolutely wrecked me. You will feel all of the angst, emotions, regrets, love and torment in this book!!!!
Best of all it ends in an HEA and I so loved the epilogue!!!
Oh my goodness Courtney do you know how to make a woman cry 😭 From the first chapter…..ugh I could feel the pain in Brady’s words.
We met Brady in book 1. He is known as ‘The Negotiator’ and is the brother of Irish Mafia leader Ronan. He knows how to use peoples emotions against them when he’s extracting information out of them so you wouldn’t think he shows his emotions. However, the unimaginable loss he suffers has him breaking down.
He meets Charlie one night and he’s instantly intrigued. But can he open his heart to love again?
I feel for Brady. He is supposed to be a hard mafia guy while keeping his deepest secret to himself and grieving alone. I’m so glad he trusts Charlie because they are good for each other.
This is book 2 in the Kings of Boston series, whilst it can be read as a standalone I recommend reading book 1 first for the full experience! Brady and Charles lead a story fuelled by lust, trauma and the need for retribution. In Retribution was emotional, funny and intense, which are all things I want to see in a MM romance, especially in a Mafia setting! The connection between Brady and Charles was undeniable, from the minute they laid eyes on each other I was rooting for their HEA. Courtney has done another amazing job with this book and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us!! *Please check trigger warnings*
I did not think that book 2 could be any better than book 1 but boy was I wrong! Brady and Charlie get a rough start and they both have their own issues, but witnessing them break through each others walls is nothing short of inspiring. That these two broken boys can find each other and help to heal each other is a beautiful thing. Retribution is actually in the same time line as In Silence, so you are seeing the same story play out, only from two new perspectives. I think this might be my new favorite thing. Courtney W. Dixon is going to be an author to watch! I am excited to see what comes next!
Brady, who belongs to the Irish Mob was forced to watch his lover from the Italian Mob be tortured and killed in front of him two years ago. He can't move on with his new lover, Charles, until he gets vengeance. This is a book filled with violence (Mafia, duh) but also steamy passion, grief, longing, and love. As part of a series, other's stories run through the background but Courtney handles this well. I really enjoyed this couple and their need for each other. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
This is such a great MM story. Brady is ‘The Negotiator’ for the Boston Irish Mob and is suffering tremendous grief and vengeful thoughts at the loss of his lover. Charlie is an uptight control freak not looking for love. When they see each other at a club they instantly feel a tremendous connection. This is the story of their love, full of heartache and excitement, passion and despair. It has all the ups and downs of their relationship, making you root for their HEA. Not only does it have romance and very spicy times, but it has all the great mafia moments of violence, deals made with other mafia groups and more of the O’Callaghan family.
This book was exactly what I was currently in the mood for – dark but not toxic.
What happened to Brady’s first love Gabriel, was totally heart-breaking and understandably left him wrecked and scared of wanting to go down that path again…💔
Then almost two years later he sees Charles and the two of them have an intense connection the moment they see each other.
Charles is a character I absolutely loved and who also had an extremely traumatic past. His sexy underwear and painted nails was something I really adored... 😘
I really liked how these two were able to help each other overcome their painful pasts…🤗🤗
Charles and Brady were hot and so perfect together from beginning to end…💙🔥💙
I also liked how the basics of book 1 was shown here just so you know what’s happening in their world overall cos I definitely would not have read book 1 since I don’t like MF.
For her first MM, I think this author did a really good job... 💝
“We shared so much pain and trauma, but we came through for each other.”
This was my first ever MM novel (outside of MM scenes in RH books I’ve read). Brady and Charles’ story is filled with pain, heartbreak, angst, and healing. Their road to happiness isn’t an easy one, but they get the HEA they deserve in the end!
This is a unique story as I haven’t come across an MM mafia romance, which was refreshing. There were some aspects of Charlie’s character that kind of irked me, but overall I enjoyed this read. 3.5-4 steamy stars 🌟 🌶
I hadn’t read book 1, which I definitely would recommend reading. However, it didn’t stop me from enjoying or following this story. Really loved the chemistry between the guys and scenes were HOT! With a capital H. Courtney is a new author to me and I’d definitely read more of her books.
I received an ARC of this book, so this is my honest opinion! This was my first time reading a book from Courtney W. Dixon and I loved this story. Honestly, when I started this, it seemed unusual for me because most mafia men act ruthless and unfeeling, so it was definitely a change with Brady. He’s so sweet and caring even though he had a bad a childhood, and adding on to his lover being killed, I almost cried for him. Charlie is so confident and fun, even though he too had a very dark past. I was so excited when they got back together. I loved the connection that instantly sparked within them for each other. Although, I have to say, Jack was my favourite character. He saved Charlie from leading a dark life and didn’t even guilt Charlie for not being able to love him. I hope he gets a happy ending. Overall, this was a very pleasant and sweet read, and if you’re looking for something romantic and cute, with a little twist of darkness, I definitely recommend reading this book. Imma go and read Ronan and Cat’s story now. 🏃♀️🙆🏻♀️
The book turned out to be something I was not expecting! Such a good book!!! I love that Brady was able to find love again! Such a good crime mob book! Would definitely recommend!!!
In Retribution is the second book in the King’s of Boston series and it follows Brady & Charles. We first meet them during Ronan and Cat’s story and you only get a glimpse of their story. I don’t read M/M books that often, but this one was great. The character’s development was fantastic and you follow through their stories of heartbreak and tragedy. Both of their lives come from heart wrenching backgrounds. They are totally different kinds of people but they have such a great connection. Not only do you get to see their relationship but you also get some mafia moments which really adds to the story. This book had it all: funny, intense, violent and HAWT moments. This book does contain a good amount of violence (also torture) so make sure to check the trigger warnings!
This is Dixon’s second book in her Kings of Boston series-Irish Mob- and her first MM novel. The story takes us to Brady and Charles; both struggling with past traumas and the difficulties of being vulnerable in a relationship. This book moves pretty quickly and has a fair amount of action. There are darker themes throughout including murder, homophobia, mentions of child abuse and assault.
The book started right off with Romance and Drama and Dark Mafia stuff. Brady the broody " The Negotiator" for the Irish mob. Not only was lucky enough to find love once but twice in his life. This M/M Irish Mafia Dark romance book was amazing!
Story line 5/5 Spicy scenes 4/5

Love is love! What can we do? We all deserve the right for happiness. This story between Charles and Brady is heartbroken yet beautiful. It shows that you deserve the second chance for love, and at the end everything is right on its place. That was a pleasure to read this book as ARC, and I can't wait for the next one!
This is Courtney’s first mm book in her kings of Boston series. We have met Charles and Brady in book one and I already had a major soft spot for Charles. This book had me smiling crying and wanting to give them both a shake. Both these guys have their past hurt that they carry with them, that stops them committing to each other fully. Seeing them get their hea warmed my heart. I can’t wait for the next book. Both books in the series so far have been the perfect mix of violence despair and passion. I can’t wait to find out more about all these boys.
I received an arc from the author in return for my honest review
HOLY COW COURTNEY YOU DID IT AGAIN!! I was obsessed with Ronan and Cat in In Silence but Brady and Charles are officially my FAVORITE!! Brady the big alpha and Charles a man after my own heart with his love of tequila, margs and carbs lol! I read this in less than 24 hrs I couldn’t put it down!! I’m not normally into M/M books but this one was amazing!! Brady and Charles’ character development was insane!! Mix in the amazing dark mafia content and this was a winner!!! Keep writing amazing things Courtney!!
Ok, I absolutely LOVED Charles's and Brady's story!!! I have been waiting for their story. Courtney Dixon is fast becoming a favorite of mine, with her lovable, broken characters. She loves to break them down before building them back up again! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!
In Retribution is the second book in Courtney Dixon’s #KingsOfBoston series, and it is hot! It’s a great story with strongly written characters, love, angst, mafia violence, and passion.
Brady O’Callaghan is second in line to run the Irish mafia in Boston. His brother Ronan is don, and his younger brothers, twins Callum and Cian, also have leadership roles within the organization.
As the book opens, it’s been nearly two years since Brady’s fiancé was tortured and murdered in front of him, causing him to withdraw into himself and focus by on vengeance. Charles works as Ronan’s PA and has his own troubled past which has left him with abandonment issues. When Brady and Charles meet, the spark is instantaneous and neither can deny their intense attraction to the other. Their problems keep them from being able to commit, though, and future happiness is not guaranteed. They live in a violent world, and when Charles’s life is endangered, it may be too much for Brady to handle.
My favorite thing about this book is the strong character development. She takes the time to write strong, layered characters with depth and passion who must overcome painful obstacles if they are to find happiness. I love the bond among the brothers as well as the fact that they are each so different.
In Retribution can be read as a stand-alone, but is part of an interconnected series and overlaps with the events in the first book, In Silence. I think you’ll enjoy it more if you read from the beginning of the series. I hope you check out this book from new author Dixon. I think you’ll be glad, and be sure to let me know what you think! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In Retribution is Book 2 in the Kings Of Boston series. It is a dark, MM romance. We dive head first back into the Irish mafia. Brady and Charles's story is devilishly dark. It's packed with action, violence, angst, and not a little amount of steamy passion!
Brady O'Callaghan is the second eldest brother. He is second in line to take over after Ronan. Tormented by the memories of witnessing his fiance's brutal torture and murder two years previously, he has become a shell of himself. His only focus is his vengeance.
Charles Nolan, is Ronan's PA. He has his own troubled past that has left him scarred. His mother was a prostitute and he lived on his own for a long time before he was brought into the family to get him off the streets. He is sassy and snarky. He has serious abandonment issues so steers clear of relationships and commitments.
When they finally meet, their connection is so strong that even their past traumas are not enough to keep them apart. They are both hesitant to commit, but one late night, and everything changes. They are taken on an emotional ride where they will learn to open their hearts and embrace the love and acceptance they secretly have longed for.
Brady and Charles have one hell of a ride through this book. Neither of them are looking or are even ready for love when it knocks them both on their asses. They both have to really fight for their relationship as both have multiple obstacles they need to overcome before they can truly be together.
So far this is my favorite book in the series, even though I loved the first book. The relationships between the brothers, the sexual chemistry between our leading men and growth of each character had me riveted throughout. I'm diving into the next book within the hour!
