When I first saw a mutual’s reading thread for Old Injury. I was immediately art-baited. I have read Flying Gulls Never Land and Green Plum Island, both written by the same author, so I had high expectations for it right off the bat.

When I saw the tags from Novel Updates, I knew this would be an angsty read; and it was just what I was looking for. So I pushed back reading Selfish Gene, also from the same author, and decided to read this first.

I have read several omegaverse novels where abo medical technologies were already pretty advanced, so it piqued my interest when the story started with the origin of abo. It was as if I was brought back to the past, yet at the same time, from the future. It was an amazing chapter opening.

I know for a fact that omegaverse is a fantasy and we don’t have alpha, beta, and omega in reality; but the novel was in a way educational, for me. Knowing the origin of omegaverse and the start of medical advances for abo, in the author’s mind and writing, were truly fascinating.

The story began with a lot of angst, foreshadowing, and mystery. It kept me reading, waiting for when the author would unveil the truth. I read the novel in two sittings, and honestly, I could have read it in one sitting if I hadn’t started reading at midnight. Don’t be afraid of the angst because the retribution was so satisfying, I laughed out loud.

The romantic feelings between the alpha and the beta weren’t abrupt. It kind of started as if they didn’t, but at the same time, they did have feelings for each other. Much like how best friends turned into lovers kind of relationship, except they had ‘enemies’ inserted in between. I like how slowly developed, how the beta started expressing his emotions blatantly, and how the alpha started to slowly understand the beta and his actions.

The ending was much more than I expected. Even the extras were truly enjoyable to read. Every chapter sucked me in. Not once did I feel that a chapter was dull. If you ask me if there was anything in the novel, that was just a bit unsatisfying. I would say, there was absolutely none. I love it from start to end. I am just speechless. I have no words to describe the novel. It simply blew me away.

Old Injury is one of the best reads I had for the year 2023. I just have to say, that this novel was truly a wonderful read! I totally recommend it! It made me want to reread it over and over again. That’s how amazing it is.

Well, this was a depressing read. I feel sorry for the characters; so much of their suffering was caused by endless misunderstandings piling one on top of another.

The ML does offer a heartfelt grovel, but the terrible events that happened weren’t entirely his fault. Yes, he was cruel at times, but his actions had a reason behind them. He wasn’t just awful for no purpose, and honestly, if I were betrayed and deceived the way he was, I might have reacted the same way. That’s why, even though the grovel was well-written, it didn’t bring me much comfort. By the end, all I wanted was for the characters to finally stop suffering and just be okay.

It does have a happy ending, but I still feel sad. Maybe I need to avoid ABO danmeis moving forward, I haven’t come across one I genuinely liked yet.

Due to the numerous recommendations, I decided to read this, but I was greatly disappointed. Where was this sweet? It was extremely painful to read!! I endured until the end waiting for the good stuff to happen but things got worse and worse!

MC suffered so much! He technically lived in the hospital after so many incidents. Even then, what angered me the most was that there was no retribution for all that pain. The villains were left mostly untouched. I guess that's life but it didn't stop me from waiting for something to happen to them.

The world setting was interesting, though, and some subjects made me reflect, but it was really necessary to be so cruel? I'm sorry, I found it too dramatic.

Non official english title: Old Injury. Length: 75 chapters + extras. Unofficial manhua title: Bad memories.

It's a solid 4.5 stars. I actually wasn't thinking of reading this yet since I had other novels on hold, but the audio drama launched yesterday and I couldn't resist. It looks like a really great adaptation, very emotional as it should for this type of work.

The beginning of the plot reminded me a bit of Alpha Predator by Shui Qian Cheng, except this one came out earlier and it's a different take on omegaverse, whicn is refreshing. The story is about Ning Yu, a beta who has suffered a lot through his life: being unloved by his mother, bullied in highschool and to this day, was framed twice and this has caused a bad public image and difficulty with jobs. In this world, betas are at the bottom of the pyramid, while alphas are on top and omegas follow. His struggles will only increase when his mother coerces him to marry an alpha from an influencial family for her benefit, Song Bailao, someone who has hurt him in the past. Ning Yu hides a big secret from him as well.

I like melodramatic plots because they're very entertaining to me, and this delivered exactly what it wanted to. Ning Yu was a nice MC, he was easy to follow and feel empathy for, and his character develops even more through the novel, gaining agency for himself and making decissions which he couldn't before. Song Bailao, the ML, was despicable but this was expected since it's a wife chasing crematorium, however there is explanation for his actions. ML's son, Song Mo, was an absolute delight and a good addition, I loved his relationship with Ning Yu from the start.

About the relationship, I was totally on Ning Yu's side all the time, but slowly the novel lets you undestand that ML's behaviour is because he is another victim of manipulation from others. He really put MC through it and I despised him for it, but at certain moment I realized that from his perspective, MC wanted to take advantage of him. I do agree that he was impulsive and should've let MC explain many years ago, but how could he trust anyone at that moment? It was pitiful for both sides, even more so for MC since he endured and beared all the pain.

This novel does a good job on delivering angst. I almost wish it was a bit more painful, which could be something about the writting/translation (note: I read the latest and better MTL version, crossing fingers it'll get licensed someday), but it had some punches that made me wince more than once. The author also does a great job on the worldbuilding and mixing it with real themes such as bullying, discrimination, parental abuse and campaigns for equality.

Going into spoiler territory, the chasing crematorium aspect left me satisfied overall, although I wished ML had been more emotional. But I accept it because . As someone who enjoys misunderstandings when it brings drama and the payoff is good, I can say this novel is a good example of that. The one scene that had me in tears a bit was when . It hurts even more because the dialogue following that is about feeling sorry for his two children and two roses, while he visits ML's kid at the hospital. Such a strong line, it was devastating.

I'm actually glad about the ending here, which doesn't always happen with chasing crematoriums. I loved that . I was also interested in the side couples, the MC's best friend (male omega) x ML's relative (female alpha), I mean how cool is that?!?! The only type of straight couple I like in a/b/o lol. I also wanted more from ML's parents, the tragic alpha/beta couple, but at least there's an open ending for them and in my head they could start over again.

Reading this makes me want to tear someone’s hair out (Zhu Li’s specifically) and the ending makes me so mad it’s so azz. I need to see that bxtxh suffer and go bald, gawd Im so mad SBL and NY should have taken their revenge on him. He ruined them when SBL and NY could have had a sweet, blossoming love story. NY’s mom is also detestable, one of the worst moms ever.

✨spoilers

The ML is a trash, I agree, and he could be really cruel. But the infuriating part is, I couldn’t bring myself to hate him. Just like the MC, Song BaLao is also a victim. I wish he could be someone un redeemable so I could put him easily in my ‘garbage ml list’. However, he was tricked, abused and had no idea that all the horrible shits that happened between him and Nin Yu were planned out by Zhu Li. I couldn’t blame him for his distrust and I think his bond with Nin Yu when they were young wasn’t strong enough to have built an absolute trust between them. Nin Yu having a weak personality didn’t help either like bro is also infuriating. He won’t speak up when it is necessary, he’s too forgiving and he always lied to Song Balao. He didn’t bother to fix any misunderstanding between them and just let them get worsen for the sake of angst. Though I feel bad for him since he’d been through a lot. I know the plot is kinda shitty but damn the angst is a real deal. I got teary eyed when NY, having to cope from losing his son, planted this plant using his unborn child’s ashes. It was heartbreaking. Also when SBL told NY that he won’t love NY’s child because he hated him, told him that he wasn’t fit to be a parent and the worst part, when SBL broke the vase that contained their unborn child’s ashes and even stepped on them. It was the most cruel act and as much as I wanted to curse SBL, he didn’t know they had a child and NY lied to him. You could also understand SBL’s anger at that time since he almost lost his own son. I don’t excuse any of SBL’s horrible actions but you cannot help but empathize with him. SBL’s reaction was satisfying though, when he finally learned about their unborn child and where NY had put him to rest.

I’m not satisfied with the ending. It wasn’t mentioned in the manhwa what happened to Zhu Li like that bxtxh doesn’t deserve to thrive. Same goes with NY’s mom. I understand that the manhwa was dropped but the ending was so rushed and felt incomplete. Might as well just read the novel for a better and more satisfying conclusion

W wyniku manipulacji osoby, której Ning ufał, Song go nienawidzi i uważa za intryganta i zdecydowanie złą osobę.
Mieli raczej skomplikowane relacje 😉

Lovely novel that delved into the problems, social/economic and ethical in the ABO system which was really interesting! It was not the "sucking the fun away" type tho because it was still sexy.
I love the mc so much he's genuinely kind and I'm just fascinated with how the first person perspective managed to convey that and not make him annoying even though I do not prefer first person perspective.
Loved the novel from beginning to end but there are still some loose ends.... was the flirtatious middle aged man ning shi's ex? What was even the significance of that? Same thing for zhu li's reappearance every once in a while (in a real discomforting way for the mc)... is this meant to portray a realistic happy ending where the ppl that defined ning yu's life still have an impact on it?? idk...
Supporting characters were also wonderfully written!
The mc's lack of care for the children (that happened out of no where and so suddenly ?) was so creepy to me. For instance, the mc abandoned song mo even tho he supposedly considered him his son and he didn't even think about him during that month he was away. Plus, the part where ning xi was an NCIU baby was also nonchalantly mentioned? the fact that he apologized to zhu li's kid even tho the kid was the one being mean to his kids?? (I know ning xi threw the first punch but she's so much younger than him lol)). Song Mo was also often forgotten, especially in the middle parts of the novel.

Romance wise, I really like it. The tradition from fiery to quiet love towards the end of the novel was comforting.

This book was really addicting and easy to read! It has the wife chasing crematorium vibes but not as toxic. I liked that the characters were fleshed out and had clear motivations for their actions.

Summary: Ning Yu is blackmailed by his mother into marrying into a rich family. Song Bolao is resentful of Ning Yu because he thinks Ning Yu tricked him 7 years ago and is finally getting what he wants. Ning Yu is only enduring the marriage while happliy being a step mom to Song’s adorable son Momo but eventually Song Bolao learns the truth and love ensues.

read till 77% but i’ll count is as read
this shit wasn’t romance, it was pure abuse. song bai lao treated the mc like crap 75% of the book, then suddenly started acting “nicer” after finding the truth on ning yu’s diary. had to resort to the lamest plot device for redemption. ning yu should’ve just taken momo and left. i’m done with this stupid ass book.
