Heart and Steel: A Warrior Adventure

Rate this book
Max smiled and then his face turned grim. "A warrior. The bad weather, fatigue, loss of freedom, wounds, sickness, bad rations or no rations, short life, too many deaths...never being able to...." Max cut off his thought abruptly. "Why would anyone become a warrior?" She softly laughed. "Because, sometimes, it is the honorable thing to do. Even if one is never able to...."

They had missed the sunset, and stars were ablaze in the heavens when they finally broke their embrace, their bodies warmed with the heat of passion which the prudish night air sought jealously to cool. Max drew a blanket over them. She laughed, "Are you not a warrior?" She pushed the blanket aside and felt the cool evening air settle over her. Max felt her shiver against him and chuckled. "I am a soldier," Max corrected, but he forwent the comfort of the blanket.

Two young soldiers, seasoned in warfare, embark on the adventure of their lifetime where death and love await. They have learned to survive on the battlefield—can they survive away from it? With compassion in their hearts and honor in their steel they are ready to sacrifice all for their ancient enemy, a woman, and a goddess.

This is a story of compassion, of love, and of selflessness. A story of courageous men and courageous women. A story of adventure, intrigue, and romance.
This book is character driven and written in a lyrical style. It is filled with humor and is rife with literary devices, shameless puns, and it spurns clichés with a vengeance (did I mention irony?). At any rate, it is a fun read for those men, women, and young adults looking for action, suspense, and a little romance.

This is a companion book to "Mist and Amethyst", telling the adventures of warriors introduced in that novel. Although linked by characters and theme, each book may be read independently of the other and in any order.

About the author

R. E. Admore is the pen name for the author of adventure fiction. My writing draws on years of international travel, parenting, and some military experience. I enjoy the outdoors, adventure, family, and writing. When writing for young adults, the themes include: the challenges of growing up, interpersonal relations, romance, Nature, social issues, and understanding different cultures. Adult book themes are pretty much the same (perhaps they will change when I grow up).

I think good novels advance our knowledge of ourselves, of life, and the world. I try and structure my novels to accomplish this while being fun and uplifting.

My novels are fast-paced action novels that are suitable for young adults and sophisticated enough for adults. Exciting, slightly flawed characters come alive, telling their own stories while providing enjoyment and surprises for the writer and the reader. Creating art through the use of language adds depth and nuance beyond mere storytelling, making the second reading as entertaining as the first. Classic literature, poetry, history, and fantasy novels feed a word nerdiness.
