Ok - I have to be cruel here - sorry. When you list Flatman (F) (don't even bother looking him up) as having a 'fighting skill rank' (FSR) of '5' but list Thor (T) as having a FSR of '4' that tells me your editors DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MARVEL COMICS! Hercules (H) also has a FSR of '4' - H! The highest FSR is '7' (Shang-Chi, Taskmaster, Hawkeye...). T AND H HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR CENTURIES - THEY WERE RAISED AS WARRIORS - THEY CAN'T HAVE A FSR OF '4' WHILE F HAS A FSR OF '5'! Not in ANY multiverse - 'NUFF SAID!
I am a fan of the MCU and know little to nothing about Marvel comics. Some character stats really made me raise an eyebrow so I'm guessing this guide is more closely aligned with the comics.
It's great for someone like me to learn about all the different characters; however, I'm sure some portrayals/stats enrage some hardcore comic nerds (see other reviews).
I wish this character guide listed the works that each character can be found in if I ever decided that I want to check them out but I suppose that's what the Google is for.
At the end of the day, this is a character guide and it succeeded at giving me every character's one-page resume. D.K. Publishing understood the assignment... 5 stars
Overall, this is a fun book to learn about avengers characters. I found myself desiring a more complete marvel characters book. The detail on each character is about right. But my biggest complaint is in alignment with other reviews: the power ranks are terrible and nonsensical. I had to stop looking at them.
Not as good as I expected. It's heavily weighted toward recent comics, often showing only the latest iterations of characters, which may be the 2nd or 3rd generation of the character. The artwork is almost all recent; only a few images look older than 2000.
The book includes over 200 heroes and villains, many I've never heard of. The book has 1 page for each character, with a few images, a bio, a description of powers, allies, foes, and a power rank in 6 categories.
Notes Hawkeye joined the circus at age 14 and was taught to fight. He decided to become a hero after seeing Iron Man. He became a criminal to impress Black Widow, then reformed and joined Avengers.
Pepper Pots got her nickname from her red hair and freckles. Her real name is Virginia. She married Tony Stark's head of security, Happy Hogan. As Rescue, she wears a suit like Iron Man.
Quicksilver can run so fast he travels up to 12 days into the future. He can move his arms fast enough to fly.
Red Hulk is General Ross.
Red Skull was accidentally put in suspended animation near end of WWII, and later revived. At first his face was a mask, but an accident made his face a real red skull. His body is cloned from Captain America's.
Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara's) costume is based on a Dia de los Muertos costume. His fingers and toes have retractable micro-barbs, and his teeth secrete paralyzing venom. He shoots webbing from his forearms.
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) is an ex-Hydra agent. She can fire "venom blast" energy to stun or kill, and can fly.
Ultron was originally created by Hank Pym.
Vision's body was made from a copy of the original android Human Torch, John Hammond. Vision's brain patterns were taken from Wonder Man.
Adam Warlock was created by the Enclave, power-hungry scientists seeking to create a race of superhumans to conquer the world. Warlock rebelled and became good.
As much of a disappointment as the similar Spider-Man one. This one is slightly better art wise but the profiles are all seriously lacking and there's nothing 'in-depth' about them. None of them are longer than a page with most of the information being limited to a single paragraph and labels that give insights like 'wears a mask to conceal identity' or 'tail is a mutant characteristic'
Syok tengok2 gambar je, cuma bila diorang nak buat kapten Britain? Dan yang paling kelakar "Flatman", gila random superhero dia. Lagu tema Flatman ni ialah Budak Flat Bangun karya Aman Ra.
