A Fabulous Story About Broken Hearts And Unexpected Love! Cyrus And Luna's Journey Will Have You Laugh And Bring Tears To Your Eyes. It Is A Realistic Portrayal Of The Fragile Nature Of Relationships And A Beautiful Example Of Love Conquering In Spite Of The Many Excuses To Give Up And Walk Away.
Luna Willet, twenty-eight, hasn't given up on love despite being duped by losers in the past. The optimistic florist has always dreamed of her own wedding, and she isn't going to let anyone take that dream from her. She has, however, learned some lessons. She won't ever be the sweet and naive girlfriend again. Fiercely independent, Luna depends on nobody. Immersed in her beloved flowers and enriched by her friendship with April and April's seven-year-old daughter, she is happy with the slightly quirky but good life she has made for herself. She isn't ready for another relationship yet, but after much encouragement from April, she isn't entirely opposed to the idea of something with no strings and no emotional attachments.
Cyrus Coning, probably thirty-ish (give or take a few years), enjoys being ruthless. The cocky and cruel billionaire businessman labored away his spare time for years as a nobody before his fortune changed. One investor believed in him and his idea that revolutionized security. He knows it was all lucky timing, but he unapologetically earned his right to be a jerk. Since selling his company, he has diversified his investments by looking for smaller businesses that he believes in and spends his days managing those investments. A recluse, his quiet lifestyle suits him perfectly. He tried marriage once and he won't consider it again. Ironic, considering he is routinely listed as one of New York's most eligible bachelors. There is just one person whose opinion matters to him - his older brother. Peter stood by his side through all the bad times.
When Cyrus agrees to help with planning Peter's wedding, he hadn't imagined just how much work it would be. His first assignment is the florist, and he can't get past the uncomfortable feeling of protectiveness that overcomes him when he meets the whimsical beauty that looks like Snow White. When a strange man steps in to help Luna at her shop, she initially resents the interference, yet she can't help but be grateful for his assistance. Once she learns his task, she immediately offers her assistance with the wedding planning as repayment for his earlier help. She certainly has connections in the business, but it is also a way for her to dream about her own wedding, the one that she expected but never had.
The couple mixes up their new friendship by adding no-strings benefits, which ignites their obvious chemistry. But keeping to their agreement means avoiding complicated conversations or anything that might imply something more. A bad joke and a reexamination of past mistakes easily threaten to shatter the no-strings nature of the couple's relationship, but in the end, the couple gets a beautiful HEA.
Cyrus and Luna's journey will have you laugh and bring tears to your eyes. It is a realistic portrayal of the fragile nature of relationships, where misunderstandings and faulty reasoning have huge consequences, where what we hold to be true about ourselves can suddenly be turned upside down. And it is a beautiful example of love conquering at the end of the day in spite of the many excuses to give up and walk away.
This is a fabulous story about broken hearts and unexpected love. It is beautifully written. The story is realistic but somewhat complex (billionaire status aside). It is character-driven. The characters are wonderfully developed. It is written in first person. The POV alternates between Cyrus and Luna. I rate this book five stars.
FROM: SHE’S MINE NOW, BOOK 2
Chris And April’s Story Is A Sweet Romance That Brings Together A Jaded Single Mother And the Doctor That Treats Her Daughter!
This book is a spin-off of Say You Do, Cyrus and Luna’s beautiful story about a New York florist that never got the wedding she dreamed of and a grouchy billionaire soured on the idea of love. This story is about Luna’s best friend April and her nine-year-old daughter Adi. As the story opens, it is two years after Cyrus and Luna met. The couple is on their honeymoon.
April Adams, roughly thirty, has sworn off men. She works in the hospital as a receptionist and is quite content with the status quo. She’s never had a good relationship, and dealing with her ex-husband Craig is enough to remind her that it isn’t worth the bother. She would never regret having her beautiful daughter Adi, though. Adi is the best thing that ever happened to her, and she is one fierce mama when it comes to her daughter. She hopes to protect Adi from Craig’s shenanigans. Still the master manipulator, he has suddenly shown interest in getting to know Adi, putting April between a rock and a hard place. She allows her deadbeat ex to have a visitation with Adi against her better judgment, but she never imagined where it would lead.
Doctor Chris Mathews, thirty-two, is affectionately called Doctor Sexy amongst the females on the hospital staff. He works in physical therapy, but with chronic understaffing issues at the hospital, he often gets pulled into the Emergency Room. His passion is in physical therapy, though. It led him to design a machine that changed the face of physical therapy for many and made him a billionaire at the same time. He loves his job, and despite rumors to the contrary, he hardly has time to date. It has been months, in fact. This is probably why he cannot keep himself focused on the job when the feisty redhead receptionist rushes into the ER to be with her daughter.
Chris and April’s story is not a love at first sight romance. But once they begin to know one another, the attraction that they feel for one another pushes things to the next level. While the two have worked in the same hospital for years, it takes Adi’s accident to get them beyond the occasional minimal pleasantries. Chris oversees Adi’s physical therapy, which brings them closer on a professional basis but eventually makes them brave enough to date. April has years of baggage, though. She spent years building a fortress to protect herself and Adi from further heartache and manipulation. Learning to trust both herself and Christ takes time, and accepting help goes contrary to all her instincts. Chris is not a typical alpha, which is April’s typical weakness. Chris is confident and quite willing to step up, but his patience, maturity, and generous spirit soften him. While April’s habit of speaking without a filter often gets her into trouble, Chris instinctively understands this trait and doesn’t hold it against her. Instead, he understands her motivations and values her instincts.
Chris and April’s story is a sweet romance that brings together a jaded single mother and the doctor that treats her daughter. The story is nicely written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are somewhat complex. They feel real, billionaire status aside. There are close friendships and a little family involvement. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Chris and April. I rate this book four stars.
IN THIS BOOK:
As the story opens, about one year has passed since little Adi’s injury brought Dr. Chris Matthews and April Adams together. The couple has married. Adi is now ten and in love with her new daddy. Cyrus and Luna continue to be happily married and have a daughter.
Katie Adams, thirty-three, doesn’t believe in love and fairy tale endings. After witnessing her younger sister April’s disastrous relationship with her ex-husband Craig and Katie’s own experience, she had decided that relationships just are not worth the inevitable pain down the road. Although happy for her friend Luna and for April’s new wedded bliss, love just isn’t in the cards for her. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy a casual encounter with a man, but because she had turned all her attention on her career, it has now been years.
Katie has worked her way up the ladder to the position of editor at New Style magazine, a small startup online fashion magazine. She believes in her magazine, but working there isn’t the dream job that she secretly hopes to land. She hopes to become a fashion designer, although she knows it is just a pipe dream. Making it in the fashion world takes more than just talent. It takes money and good luck in a very fickle industry. Working at New Style had been a strategic move, allowing her to network and make connections with key players in the fashion world. She had once hoped to capitalize on those connections, but her lack of confidence and fear of rejection have her being a realist these days.
Katie spends all of her free time on her sewing machine and sketching designs, but it all just sits in a closet. She has other things to worry about now, like losing her job if the magazine’s online clicks don’t increase soon. She won’t be the only person without a paycheck if the magazine fails, and she keenly feels the responsibility on her shoulders. Fortunately, wedding week is coming up. It always grabs the magazine a little extra attention, and Katie sees it as an opportunity. If she can only capitalize on the event, she can save the magazine.
Logan Lewis, thirty-five, was named New York City’s bachelor bad boy of the year. He always moves on before anything gets serious, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves his lifestyle. Models are a dime a dozen, and he is never in short supply. The only child of billionaires Daniel and Elizabeth Lewis, who come from old money, Logan was raised in the spotlight. He doesn’t care about that, though. Real estate is in his blood, and he didn’t give working at Lewis Development with his father a second thought. Although Logan is now CEO, his father is still very actively involved in the business.
His parents have been happily married for decades and they don’t understand Logan’s lifestyle choices. They occasionally try to sell him on the advantages of marriage but to no avail. When the bad boy moniker hits the news, his mother ends up in tears. She doesn’t want him known for his exploits, but rather for his success as a businessman. Logan might be a heartbreaker – his latest victim was up and coming model Nikki Latrell – but he loves his mother and hates to see her so hurt. He agrees to an interview with Grind Magazine so that he can shift the public conversation back to his work in real estate.
When Katie has an opportunity to sneak a word in with the city’s hottest bachelor, she isn’t about to let the chance to save her magazine getaway. Getting him to agree to model at New Style’s wedding week show would be a game-changer. With his name associated with wedding week, the magazine would get the buzz it needs to keep going, attracting new readers and new advertisers alike. Fortunately, her best friend Connie, who works at Grind, a sister publication, happens to be working wardrobe for the photo shoot that accompanies his upcoming interview.
Logan and Katie meet under false pretenses and things don’t exactly go as planned. Soon, however, Logan sees an opportunity of his own. His father is hoping to develop a business relationship with Devi Patel, a traditional Indian businessman who is looking for the perfect fit for a long-term partnership. The relationship would benefit both families, and the only obstacle is apparently Logan’s bachelor status. Devi wants the stability of a family man in a partner, and he can afford to walk away from the deal. With his father’s urging, Logan has an idea.
When Logan and Katie agree to help one another out, it is supposed to be a simple trade. One catwalk for one date. Unfortunately, it becomes a little more complicated than that. Logan needs to make some revisions to their agreement when he unexpectedly introduces her as his fiancée. And when the chemistry that always existed between them begins to surface, their deal begins to become murky. Neither wants a relationship, but as they bide their time, things become all too real. The couple faces obstacles – both personal and professional – as they work their way toward the conclusion of their deal. There are a few ups and downs, but Logan and Katie eventually earn their happy ending.
Wow! Logan and Katie’s sweet fake fiancée romance is packed with steamy chemistry. Logan is quite the player, but something changes for him when he meets Katie. The heartbreaker has a sweet side. Both he and Katie are determined and stubborn, but whereas he has confidence in spades, she cowers from fear in some circumstances. Katie is a complicated character. She is very strong in most ways, but when it comes to personal issues, she freezes up. That would explain why she backs away from relationships and keeps her designs to herself. She is so focused on responsibility that she has forgotten how to live. With her sister married and no man in her life, she has probably spent too much time engrossed in her work, neglecting her personal life. Logan knows a thing or two about pleasure and enjoying life, and with him, she learns to relax. She comes into herself.
Logan learns to slow down and enjoy the simple things through Katie. He might be motivated to keep her happy so she keeps up her end of the deal, but he very soon recognizes that he likes spending time with her. The things that had always excited him lose some of their luster after she enters his life. Still, it takes him time to piece it all together, and the pressure from his father and Devi Patel don’t exactly help matters.
There are a few new characters introduced in this story that could conceivably have a story of their own to tell. Connie, Katie’s best friend, comes to mind. Nash Harris is very likely to have his own story, and he hints about it here if he were to take his own advice. The talent agent works at his parents’ company, and his background and personality are quite similar to Logan’s, just a little more relaxed and informal. Nash, however, isn’t quite as wealthy and comes from new money. At thirty-four, he enjoys playing the field like Logan.
Several characters from the earlier books in the series reappear here. April and Adi are part of the story. Chris appears. Hunter, Chris’s business partner and best friend, also makes a few appearances here. Whether or not the big teddy bear gets his own story remains to be seen. Cyrus and Luna are mentioned but not much more than that.
One would think that the wealthy men of this series might have rubbed elbows previously, and in the end, a small connection is discovered and explained.
There are a few issues that merit mention. First, the introduction of Nash Harris feels forced. His participation in the story, beyond just the cursory that propels the story, feels manufactured and unnecessary. For that reason, I strongly suspect a book about him will be forthcoming. I loved Logan’s character, so I suspect I would like this more relaxed alpha story as well. Even so, his presence in this story feels like a distraction. The other issue I had was with Logan. Some things about him are a little difficult to reconcile. He works long hours and doesn’t care about being seen in the public eye. Later, however, he talks about partying with Cyrus before he decided to settle down. That would have come to a stop for Cyrus three years ago, but not for Logan. Without clarification, the partying mentioned seems like it might have interfered with Logan’s work ethic. Logan loves his lifestyle and doesn’t hint at having slowed down in the last few years, so it is a bit perplexing. This is conceivably explainable, so even though frustrating, it doesn’t ruin the story.
Logan and Katie’s sweet story captures your attention throughout. Fans of Say You Do and She’s Mine Now will love this new addition to the series. It is a fake fiancée story with very strong characters based in NYC’s fashion and real estate worlds. The story is carefully crafted. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are real and three-dimensional. Katie is very relatable, and underneath it all, Logan is a real sweetheart. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Logan and Katie. I rate this book 4.5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
