Thanks to the help of Jacob’s Titan Mechs, much of Belldorn survived the battle that ravaged its shores. But the war is far from over. Demands to chase Ballern’s surviving forces across the sea meet more resistance than Jacob could have imagined when Lady Katherine ignores her allies’ protests and shifts her focus to reinforcing the city.
Alice knows they’ll need to grow their numbers if they’re going to stand a chance against Mordair on the other side of the Crystal Sea. Their hopes rest on Furi bringing the Skyborn into the fold. But Samuel has another plan that will take them back to where it all began … behind the towering walls of Ancora.
Whether they await Mordair’s return or bring the fight to him, their survival once more depends on Jacob’s allies. As hope begins to fade … so come the Stormborn.
Eric R. Asher is the author of over 30 titles, including the Vesik urban fantasy series and the YA steampunk series, Steamborn. Look for his upcoming cozy fantasy, The Theme Park at the End of the World, in 2024. He is currently living in St. Louis, Missouri, where the local folklore often finds its way into his Mason Dixon: Monster Hunter rural fantasy series.
Stormborn by Eric R Asher Steamborn series #7. Steampunk NA war between worlds. Best read in series order. Belldorn survived the battles but the war isn’t over. They need to grow their numbers while they wait Mordair, the Skyborn and Stormborn.
War continues but Jacob and crew get to go home temporarily and see family. Jacob is modest in all that he’s done for the cause but Alice makes sure they know how vital he’s been. Hate those worms! Even more than the beatles. Not so fond of Lady Katherine. Two more books in the series. I’ll get to them before the end of the year.
I have found that the books that I am most invested in are the ones with characters that you fall in love with and really care what happens to them and what they're trying to accomplish. While there's not a lot of action in this volume compared to its predecessor, it's a matter of recovery from the events of the previous book and preparation for the war to follow. The characters really shine and you can feel the camaraderie between them. Even some people who had minor roles in the past step up. Now the anticipation of waiting for Stormforged.
Great series! Keeps getting better and better. Jacob and Alice are back with their allies and each are playing their part in the plan to defeat Mordair.
Every now and then I stumble across a series that is just so good that I know nothing else in the genre will ever be able to match it and Eric Asher’s Steamborn series is a perfect example of this for me. I love steampunk as a genre and I think Eric Asher is by far the best author who writes in the genre so I was super excited to see this book released earlier this year. While I’ve loved every book in the series so far I think Stormborn is by far my favorite. The stakes are so much higher in this book that I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it and then I had the exact same experience a few days later when I started listening to the audiobook.
As Stormborn is the first book in the final trilogy of this series I don’t want to say too much and accidentally spoil things for anyone who hasn’t read all the books yet. So I will just say that I loved pretty much every aspect of this book. The characters are all so good that I struggle to decide which is my favorite or whose viewpoint I’m always most excited to read. The story itself is fantastic and I can’t wait to see how things play out over the next two books. It honestly makes me a bit sad that I won’t have any more books in the series to look forward to after this. At least until Eric Asher decides we need a prequel or sequel series!
I also want to take a moment to once again tell people how amazing Saska Maarlevel is as the narrator. I’m always amazed by how much emotion she manages to pack into her narration and how she manages to give every character their own unique voice. She’s easily become one of my favorite narrators and any time I see her name on an audiobook I have to go see what it’s about and whether I would like to read it or not.
I would definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for something to read, especially if they’re looking for some amazing steampunk! Though I would suggest anyone who hasn’t done so yet start off with Steamborn and work through the series from the beginning. While I think this book would stand fairly well on its own I do think it’s much more enjoyable with the full backstory. I can’t wait to read the next book in this trilogy!
Okay, I don’t mean to sound awful, but I’m getting tired of listening to the series now. Perhaps I shouldn’t have binged the whole lot, but I think that, If I hadn’t, I might not remember the main events of the story. Don’t get me wrong, in itself the writing is good, the characters are engaging, I like the settings, the machines and the bugs, but I feel like I’m just waiting for something to happen. It mostly feels like filler and I still have no idea of how much time has elapsed since Skyborn. All the ‘kids’ act and speak like they have the experience of someone who is at least thirty. I wish I could have had their levels of knowledge and confidence at the tender age of fifteen/sixteen, which I believe they are still supposed to be. I’m also starting to wonder if there is a Skyborn recipe book out there. A lot of the recipes sound as though they are Final Fantasy inspired. Grilled pill bug anyone, sweetwing tea? Onwards to book eight.
I definitely fell in love with the characters Impossible as it seems , this book was even better than the last. Kept me intrigued until the very last word. Such intriguing characters that made the story what it was. Don’t miss out.
I feel like I say this every time I review one of Eric Asher’s books, but what an amazing ride! All the gang are back although they are split up as each plays their part in defeating Mordair. If you’re a fan of epic fantasy stories, then you’ll want to reach this series.
This story just keeps getting better and better. Jacob, Alice and allies are back in Ancora where is all began. The action is wild. The allies/friends is growing. Mordiar needs to be defeated but he continues to be one step ahead of them. The audible is amazing.
Old friends and new come together in this book to make a jampacked adventure. War is never pretty and it hasn't been for Jacob, Alice, and all their many friends and allies. But, the "Stormborn" are making their way, one wronged people at a time...truth is coming to light and people are tired.
The constant action and true friendships, determination, and hard work...the vivid picture the author paints and the emotion behind the words keeps this series in my top favorites. Really bad "bad guys" and really amazing "good guys"...and those in the grey areas that may just surprise you. Never a dull moment.
