Would YOU love a monster girl?

Tony Platz had the respect of his peers, a career on the fast track, and the body of an Olympian. There was only one problem: it was an open secret he carried a torch for his already married partner. When a raid put her in the hospital and finally exposed her husband's ongoing infidelity, Tony got shipped out to Oolytau to keep him from doing something that wouldn't just end his career. As weeks turned into months it became apparent the last person his crush wanted to see was the one man who could say 'I told you so,' and his future prospects with the NHIC looked grim.

Tayra Manes had a dream. She worked hard, graduated the academy, and became the first of her kind to join the Non-Human Investigative Corps. There was only one problem: she was a griffin, and not everyone approved of her being allowed to serve in the previously all-human NHIC. Within twenty-four hours of her assignment to Oolytau she had a bounty on her head, no place to call home, and a new partner.

As a simple apartment hunt turned into a deadly game of cat and mouse, their problems multiplied as Tayra realized Tony might just be the dream she'd come to the city to find, and Tony found himself making the same mistake twice.

This is second in a sci-fantasy romance series where each book is a different couple. The couple from the first book are present here, but not strongly so. You could read out of order, but it's probably better if you read the other book first—not least to establish a bunch of the worldbuilding.

This one was very different from the first, as Tayra has a genetic heritage from her race's creation that gives them something called the "yen" if they find a human they consider the perfect mate. And Tony is a cinnamon roll of the highest order so she fixates on him within the first quarter of the story. So a ton of the middle of this story is them dealing with her open feelings for him and him deciding what to do about it (if anything).

And I'll be honest, the thrash on that gets a little frustrating as the author throws one obstacle after another in the way of their consuming the whole "yen" thing. Not to mention that the ultimate bad guy was kind of obvious after about the second exchange of hostilities and that nobody even suspects what is going on by then strained my credulity a bit.

Still, I really liked Tayra and Tony and they make such a fantastic team. So I'm not even going to hold the against it. So let's call it 3½ stars that I'm rounding up because seriously, Tony is exactly my type and Tayra ended up a great match with him.

A note about Steamy: There are a couple of explicit sex scenes putting this, barely, in the middle of my steam tolerance. As with the first, it's interesting having a male-focused author writing those intimate moments as I think the tone is distinct.

Wild story.... and fun!

Ok. I've enjoyed the author's works, bought the Template series. This, the second of the he Monster Girl books is even better than Velise, and THAT one was very, very good. Great plot, great characters and MC'S. Awesome writing. I've read roughly 5,000 novels in the past 55 years. Cebelius' writing is in the top ten percent for quality.

better than the original

I had trouble relating to Velise but I really felt the horror lust and affection from Taylas bond. This is a fun romance with a spicy monster girl who is different than the usual “imma succubus and act and fell exactly like a human but im misunderstood “ Tayla was real and seemed realistic.

It has been a while since I read the first book. There were so many books on my reading list that I just couldn't get to this one. I am glad I finally got around to it. I really like this author's writing style. This author writes a lot about human men with monster girls. It basically comes down to the human male overlooking the monster aspect of the woman and giving her a chance. She is so happy with being given that chance that she will do anything for that man. She becomes completely loyal to him. That is basically what happened in this one. The story is told from 2 points of view. Tayra is a griffin who just graduated the academy and is one of the first "monsters" on the police force and is assigned to the monster hunter squad. Tony is a corporal in the police force that had an issue with his last partner. He was kind of in love with her and wanted her to leave her abusive husband. He ended up beating her up and they are getting a divorce. The higher ups thought he might do something, so they transferred him to keep him out of trouble. He is partnered with Tayra. Most people on the force hate monsters. Tony isn't really one of those. He seems to be an easy-going guy. He now has a problem since his new partner already has a hit out on her after her first day on the job. She needs a new place to stay, and Tony lets her stay with him. They are somewhat similar. He is very muscular and is almost a body builder. Her being a Griffin means she is even bigger. They also have the same dreams. They both want to be heroes. She wants to be a hero so that she can find a human man to mate with. She knows what she looks like and thinks saving someone is the only way she can find someone. Griffins were genetically engineered and can only reproduce with humans. Tony has a hero complex as well. He wants to be the one to save the day. That is kind of why he fell for his partner. He wanted to save her. They work well together. Things progress between them much quicker than expected, but there is a good reason for that.

Rich and Rewarding

Firstly, as usual, the characters are excellent. The author just doesn’t go for cardboard characters, and it always shows. Done with “flatter” characters the series would still be interesting, but all the characters with their depth really make it something special. Even the side characters shine!

Secondly, the plot outside the prime duo is excellent. We have a world, a history, and political (etc.) forces in it that we haven’t been made fully aware of yet. The slow exposure we get as each book comes out is deftly done and perfectly paced. No up-front expositional glut, yet no blind “leap of faith” either. We get a nice even stride from each character based on what they know and what they perceive - and we haven’t heard from the ones who have lived the serious history. This second book drops a few historical and cultural bombs to shake our calm, and to let us know that there’s a lot more going on in society than we can see.

Lastly, the personal stories are just great. The personalities (characters again) and the events that unfold to push them together are awesome and often wonderfully funny. “Boy meets girl” tales done in a sweet way while walking a film noir set. Seeing how they continue to react with each other later remains a nice source of entertainment also.

So yeah: maybe the ol’ bow-chikka monster girl theme catches your eye and draws you near, but there is a LOT more going on in the stories than just that. There is para-military politics (and the people caught up in it), there’s the personal heroes, villains, and in- between with their *great* personalities, and there is the teeny-bit revealed over plot that has a lot of twists to go yet. It’s really good writing and editing done with style, and it’s definitely recommended (17+)

Great series

Loved this book, and loved the "afterword" thoughts of the author at the end of the book. I'm REALLY loving the monogamous relationships by this author. Please keep writing and making audio books about this universe. The world building is great and the characters have a lot of depth to them. Super curious what the next monster girl will be. Honestly the only critique I have is the title of the series might mislead potential new customers to not realize how seriously you take your projects. This series could easily draw in a swath of paranormal romnce fans if they knew from the get go that its not just wish fullfiment fantasy erotica. That's just an opinion. Please keep writing!

I very much enjoyed the first book but I liked this one even more. Partially because it connects the personal with a larger world. There were some obvious twists but that didn't spoil the ride at all.

This entry was even better than the first. Cebelius knocks it out of the park yet again. I do wish the worldbuilding was coming to us a little more quickly but the slow build up with new MCs with every entry is working well.

I enjoyed Tony and Tayra's personalities and their subsequent relationship more than Andrew and Velise, and that really says something considering how great the first book was. Also, I loved the almost buddy cop turned lovers scenario in the first chapters a lot. If the overall story had not been any more than them simply navigating work and love in a slice of life style story, it would have been just as good.

I was worried I would be turned off by Tayra herself in the first half of the book being that I, like many, draw the line at nonhuman faces when it comes to monster girls. But Cebelius masterfully crafted such a likable character and you could really feel the love and care her and Tony have for each other. Once you're there reading it, her birdlike face was of little consequence. It speaks to Cebelius' ability as a romance writer. For me to set aside such a hard line in the sand was a real testament to the quality of the book and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Anyway, the world is growing and big players are getting into position. I am invested and cannot wait to read what happens next in the story or to our great couples. I'm excited to see Grace the gargoyle find love and see what part she plays moving forward given her past.

Two books into the WYLAMG series I am still enjoying it. A mix of hard-boiled police procedural and fantasy races is working as a world, and here we get more background as to how it came to be. Tayra is a more sympathetic character than Velise, and this one is more at the "working level" than the first book.

I look forward to more, and as it seems we're working up the monster girl food chain (if not the political one) I'm hoping for a dragon next time...

Original Content Alert / This is new & good

Romance / cop drama/ action-thriller/ erotica / fantasy
Monogamy not harem
This is an amazing series with some very good writing. This is so unlike every other monster girl erotica. For one, the writing is much better than most and the content is original and intelligently presented. This is a smart series that just happens to have sex scenes (with monster girls)

An outstanding continuation of the story, although we are no longer following the same characters of book one, we are still well present in the same world, we get an expanded perspective of the world, it working and secret dealings. I never expected that from L... but damn it sure played us all well.

Great Romance in the world of Daytau.

Another great romance from a great author.
The world of Daytau is an interesting one. It started off as our modern world which got invaded by fantasy races. You see folks with human parts like centaurs, griffins, harpies, arachnes etc need to mate with pure humans otherwise they become extinct. Our military was outgunned in the face of dragons...
Geneticists came up with a way to make forced breeding impossible. Unfortunately it reduced our fertility as well.
But that was a long time ago. What is left of humanity is living in a few city states in comfort with high technology.
Fantasy races are forced to life with us peacefully to get what they want.
Of course humans were not very welcoming at first, but the world is slowly changing.
This is the background for would you love a monster girl. I love the world of Daytau as it is very logical - as much as is possible in a fantasy setting.
The pacing of this romance is quite fast. I found it almost to fast -until it was explained why and then I loved it.
The editing and prose is excellent.
I am looking forward to the next one.

Ok, so this might be a thing...

WYLAMG is NOT my usual escape. Hell, it wasn't even on my radar. I picked up Valise, thinking it would be something new, maybe good, and wouldn't be hard to put down so as to not interfere with being a grownup.
Boy, was I in for a surprise! Totally hooked, reading 'till 3am and every chance I got in my day. Tayra was even better - seriously - I am so invested into these characters at this point. IS there a 3rd book? If it isn't yet available, when will it be? And that juicy little bomb of the long-lost dad/enemy thing HAS to be fleshed out. I want to know more of the vampire's story. The succubus is going to be a fun one, I just know it. The dragon... Uggh. I need to know all the stories. There is so much opportunity here, and I have every confidence that this brand new (to me, anyway) furry author has the right kind magic to make it happen.
Done. I'm hooked.

Excellent Story

This turned out to be yet another amazing story by a very talented author. The world he’s building continues to come into focus a little more each novel we get, and the characters continue to be well-rounded and interesting. If I had to pick one small thing I’d like to see more of, it would be “romantic” scenes between the main leads, for instance if they went on a date, or even a few more intimate/spicy scenes. It would have been fun to see them on a hunting trip spending time together and then maybe get to see their wedding and wedding night together. Other than that it was a fantastic read and I encourage anyone who has not yet tried the series to please give it a shot. Don’t let the “monstrous” aspects of the love interests turn you away, it actually adds a very interesting dynamic to the characters navigating their lives and relationships. It will be well worth your time.

So gooood!

This was just phenomenal writing and I absolutely adored this book. We met Tony in book 1 “Velise: Would you love a Monster Girl” he was in love with his married partner. We pick up with him being reassigned to a new precinct because the whole precinct found out his partners husband was cheating and they didn’t want him to do anything stupid. He gets assigned a new partner who just happens to be a griffin who makes an arrest on her first day on the job. Problem is she arrested a mob enforcer and now she has a bounty on her head. They have to figure out who issued the bounty before she ends up dead. And in the process Tony goes from tolerating her to something else entirely. It was just a good read I couldn’t put it down. And there were a good many twists and turns and I can’t wait for book 3

Interesting new series

Fantasy alt history monster girl adult situations
Book 2 in a new series of novels by Cebelius. It is obvious a third novel is planned, and yet more humans who oppose sentient monster-human pairings are hinted at or revealed at the novel's end. Unexpectedly, other new players also emerge. The slow decline of humans and the reciprocal decline of monster races who need humans to perpetuate their races is something Daytau and the other city states will need to address sooner than later. Velise and Tayra have bought themselves and their direct lineages a couple of generations, but the slow decline of all races means a solution needs to be found.

When Cebelius gets on a roll, his stories are absorbing. This is one. Recommended.

A Slight Step Down

I wanted to like this book more. I really did. And it’s because I love the characters—up to a point.

Spoilers ahead…

Having a griffin as the love interest hit me just right. The fact that she was physically imposing and more non-human than most worked. I was even okay with the fact that she became emotionally bonded to the human MC. But when she physically changed to become something more typically human…the author almost lost me.

The story shifted to become all about pleasing the man. It wasn’t about two characters growing together, but one character changing to become something more pleasing to the other. And that sucked, because I enjoyed everything else about this book.

A stellar sequel

I quite enjoy the world that this story takes place in and the way that this book further develops the areas that were briefly touched on in the previous one. There's less intrigue than in the last but that makes sense with the characters involved. I also enjoy the way that each book has focused on different characters thus far, which has given me hope for the future books avoiding bloat which can so frequently happen with monster girl books, not that I felt that way regarding Cebelius's previous works. Great job Ceb!

Excellent second book!

I am loving this series! It has a different feel than Ceb’s other novels but still well written and edited! The world he’s created is a novel take on the modern+w/monsters. Feels fairly possible.. the only big thing so far that is bugging me is the idea that Humanity as knee jerk rejected the idea of magic.. actively working to repress it in fact. It seems like it would be a huge tool to help lift humanity back up… I can’t wait for the next! Fantastic cliffhanger/foreshadowing too!

These two books are not as simple as you think

I thought the first book and then one would be "boring" compared to the epic adventure litrpgs I read, but boy, oh boy, was I wrong. The world Ceb is building is becoming something very interesting. He could keep doing the 2 person romance while also doing some crazy out of city stuff in separate series and then merge them together. The way this series is going it feels like it will become a much bigger story and man I can't wait.

While I enjoyed the first book in this series more, that's not a slight against the quality I jus like Velise slightly more than Tyra, despite her being a great character herself.

This story is pretty much self contained, you do get to see quite a few returning characters, so I'd imagine you can enjoy this book pretty easily even if you haven't read the first volume, but perhaps a little more if you have.

Aside from that if you've read work by this author before you know what your in for.

Branching narrative

By it's very nature this installment differs a fair amount in theme to it's predecessor, the political drama of Velise has been exchanged for more down-to-Earth detective drama and a bit more action.
It's good though for different reasons, and slightly less to my particular preferences. I found the off-screen beatdown of Tayra jarring, especially since that crime wasn't followed up on later. It made it feel a bit contrived towards creating the recovery scene, but I digress.

Well that was fun!

DUDE! I think I've read everything you've written and released through Kindle and have thoroughly enjoyed each story. WYLAMG... Uh probably. :) I found myself wanting more of Velise and Uncle Nick, and it seems others did too., and here we are meeting Tayra, catching up with Tony and waving hello to our old friends all while meeting new friends will probably see again. What can I say other than thank you for another great read.

Intriguing read and just as good as the first!

I'll admit the first book caught my interest despite a bit of a slow start.

But this, the second book in the series continues where book one leaves off, but from another characters point of view.

The books are fun and interesting with their ideas, concepts and relationships, while the villains and conspiracies are well written.

Kind curious to see where this series is going overall.

Another amazing release

I love this new series, Its just the right amount of romance and action. The sex scenes are just the right length relative to the story, which is a surprisingly hard balance to find. On top of all that is the authors attention to detail when it comes to the none human characters. A lot of the books I have read completely fail to mention things like swaying tails and raised feathers. The ending on this one leaves me wondering who the next couple will be.

Good

Second book follows a side character from first book. It is not a sequel, although the book is set after the first and characters from first one are side characters in this book.

Story is good and fun and descriptions are good. Also, monster characteristics are well thought out.

There is also more info about genetic problems from the war. Lack of information annoyed me in the first book

Another great story

This author is one of my favorites and is an awesome writer to boot. While this is a departure from his normal series it is a very well written enjoyable story. And while each story is it own novel, each of those characters in the stories are connected and part of a whole world. So while it’s not necessary to read each one, it does give you a better understanding of the world and the connections between characters.

A interesting cop story with a twist

I enjoyed the story and had a lot of twists and turns and the characters were well developed. The world building was interesting and would like to know a little more of the backstory possibly in the next book. For myself I enjoyed the story but I'm not that into police stories so for those who are you should enjoy this with a little bit of fantasy twist.

Very interesting, love conquers all?

My review of book 1 said that "aliens are alien". Alien motivations, alien outlook, alien passions, alien strengths and alien instincts. Humanity survived the alien invaders and subjugated those that inhabit their cities. In the untamed wilderness powerful alien forces still exist, meanwhile an underground human organization seeks to disrupt the intergration and procreation of humans and aliens. A quite interesting concept.

Pleasantly surprised

I did not think I would enjoy this book and avoided it for years because I wanted a series to stay focused on the power couple from book 1. I broke down because I wanted to read a fantasy series that both had a focus on the two love interests getting together, and also not being a harem. This book not only delivers, but sets up expectations for the series to come.
