Manager for Hart’s Horse Rescue, Lucy Lenoir, finally feels she has a handle on life after having worked hard to leave her old one behind. So hard, there are times she almost forgets what she escaped. Memories which suddenly come flooding back when she catches a glimpse of a familiar horseman in town.

What’s worse, he’s in the company of the unlikely cowboy she’s only just beginning to trust.

High Mountain Tracker, Bo Rivera, tries hard never to repeat his mistakes. A huge one changed the course of his life and made him particularly cautious, especially around women. So much so, he almost passed up on the best thing to ever walk into his life; the compact, blonde ballbuster in need of a gentle hand.

However, the more he learns about her, the more he realizes a soft touch alone won’t keep her demons at bay. Those will need a firmer hand…to keep the gun steady.

HIGH IMPACT (High Mountain Trackers Book #4) by Freya Barker is another exciting romantic suspense in the High Mountain Tracker series. This is Lucy and Bo’s story that faithful readers of the series have been waiting for. This book can be read as a standalone, but the characters are all evolving in their relationships throughout the series.

Bo Rivera has been a member of the High Mountain Trackers since his discharge from the service. Unlike the other members of the team, Bo lives in town so that he can keep an eye on his elderly and feisty mother. Bo is a flirt with all the ladies, but he is really interested in Lucy, the prickly assistant to his boss’s wife at the animal rescue down the road. But he feels she is too young, so he keeps his distance. When he discovers her age and realizes she just looks young, he is ready to change their status.

Lucy Lenoir finds more comfort and trust with animals than humans. She has never let anyone know about her true background even her best friend and boss. She is independent and sometimes wishes for the type of relationships she sees happening around her, but she is also afraid to jeopardize anyone else’s safety. After Lucy rescued some abused goats, strange incidents have been happening at the rescue and she begins to feel she is being watched and set up for the murder of the goats’ abusive owner. Bo believes in her innocence and is determined to protect her even as she fights his attention.

Lucy slowly begins to allow Bo into her life and when she tells him about her past, he feels even more protective. But Lucy’s past is closer than anyone knows, and it may destroy her future.

I have been looking forward to this pair coming together after the brief glimpses of their attraction in previous books. Even though I knew Lucy’s past was bad, it was much worse than I expected and broke my heart. Bo had secrets of his own which could have broken up this pair even before they started, but Lucy understood about not being believed. Lucy and Bo’s romance proceeded at a believable pace with honest discussion of triggers during sex scenes. It is great to catch up with the crossover characters from the previous books, also. The suspense plot continues to ramp up the tension at an ever-increasing rate until the climactic confrontation and rescue. This story has everything I was hoping for and more.

I highly recommend this romantic suspense and the entire High Mountain Trackers series!

I could not put this book down! Who knew Lucy was hiding all that?! She's been such a hardened character and this really explains why. Honestly, to go through what she did would break most people.

I'm not much of a fan of resistance but after hearing why Bo was resisting Lucy in the first three books, it really does explain things and I get it. Anyone would be hesitant to go through that again. Sorry, I will leave it there for no spoiling.

Bo was so protective of Lucy and I loved every minute of it. And Bo's mom? lol. That woman is a spitfire!

This was a great read. It has triggers for some readers. What happened to Lucy is what alot of women fear. I was so happy to see her finally get her happily ever after. Both her and Bo deserved to find that kind of love after everything they have both been through.

No one does mature romance like this author. While Bo and Lucy are not as old as some of her characters, they are grown adults dealing with real life issues, although Lucy’s are a bit outside my real life, thank goodness. Both of them had pasts that affected their reactions to each other and that had my mind whirling to try and figure it out before it was revealed.

I absolutely loved Bo and his dedication to supporting Lucy in whatever her decision was at any given time. He was alpha without overpowering her or forcing demands upon her and I loved him for that. Add in the image of him carrying two baby goats and I was a goner.

This storyline had many different levels to it and I never knew which way things were going to go. To say I was pleasantly surprised by the way things turned out, is a huge understatement. I was glued to the pages until the very end where I was left happy and content.

I don’t think this story can be any better. Bo is such a great man, OTT and all! Lucy is a bit difficult to warm up to. Once we learn more of her story, you have a much better understanding of her aloofness.such great descriptions of how the characters felt. I could clearly see their expressions and emotions in my mind. Action and suspense. I’m so curious about Dan.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, suspense, twists & turns, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
High Meadow (High Mountain Trackers #1)
High Stakes (High Mountain Trackers #2)
High Ground (High Mountain Trackers #3)

This is Lucy and Bo’s story. Lucy has been running from her past and knows its just a matter of time before she might have to up and leave again. She likes Bo but she can feel him holding back from her. Bo was burned in the past by a woman, and it takes a lot for him to trust. He wants Lucy but is unsure if he can trust those feelings that he has for her. When danger comes, he knows he can’t fight them anymore. Danger or no danger, he knows Lucy is the one for him. Now he just has to convince her to give him a chance. But just when they think everything is good it turns out oh so bad. Can they really have a future when her past is still after her?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

In true Freya Barker fashion, I was stuck to my chair reading page after page, wanting these characters to find the happiness they deserved, sometimes at the edge of my seat trying to figure out who was causing all this chaos and rooting everyone along as they head out to find the bad guy.

I love watching characters grow throughout a series. We have watched Lucy be there for everyone else but be a quiet bystander, always the listener, eager to help someone else out. Never giving much information about herself in the process, the readers knew there was so much more to her background and always curious. She's happy to run the rescue alone and be in her own company. Sure she craves the attention of a man from time to time, wishes for a love like her friends have found, but her tainted past holds her back from putting herself out there. This strong willed woman who learnt way too early to provide for herself will never let a man take advantage of her again, over her dead body.

Bo is more than happy with his life at the ranch, working with his brothers of arms both on the field and tracking. Being close to his mom and looking out for her is a priority for this big soft hearted man. Watching the guys all finding someone to share their life outside the business has created some longing for more in his life. Being misled and trusting too quickly almost had him burned for life, so he is very careful when it comes to women. But he feels a draw to Lucy that he can't seem to ignore. He can sense that she has much to tell in her life and not pushing too hard will be his strongest play.

The suspense that is behind what is happening around the ranch and who might be trying to scare Lucy is very misleading. I am in awe of Lucy's strength and determination to not let things get the best of her. Her willingness to flee to keep everyone else safe when she realizes the true danger is heartwarming.

I am sad to see this group and series coming to an end. I am secretly hoping for more in some manner as I see a few characters that still need their story told.

I don’t think there is anything this amazing author can’t do. She just grabs you and won’t let go.

Bo Rivera has been holding back because he thinks Lucy is much younger than she is. When he finds out her real age it’s on.

Lucy Lenoir has been hiding so much that no one suspected. Bo is breaking down her barriers one at a time.

“Awww,” Pippa teases. “You’re sweet on her.”

“For a while now,” I admit. “I think we all knew that, Bo. I just wasn’t sure you’d ever get around to doing something about it.”

This is such a wonderful series. I just can’t get enough.

I loved this book. I was really anxious for their story and wasn't disapointed at all. Lucy had been through a lot, not many people cam thrive the way she did after what she went through. One of strongest women I've ever read. I loved her completely, she deserved the world and more. Bo was just fantastic, he was there for her, always, no matter how many times she pushed him away, he was there and that's what's important. He was perfect for her, pantient and a protector, that at the same time lets her be herself. Their were a perfect couple, loved them

I have absolutely loved this series and harbor a secret hope this wasn't the last one. I'm such a huge fan of Ms Barker's writing. Her characters are so relatable and her stories deal with contemporary, timely issues. Lucy is such an independent and capable woman and this book tell us her story. A story fraught with pain and fear. The story of a woman who overcame and continues to do so, hiding the past, and hiding from the past. Bo is a man who's had his own struggles, who had to change his career course early in life and adapt. He also carved out a new life for himself. Retired from the military he joins his former comrades in arms on the High Mountain Trackers unique search and rescue/recovery team. He's the only member who doesn't live on the ranch, to keep an eye on his feisty octogenarian mama. Lucy suddenly becomes the center of threats and someone is trying to frame her for murder and then attacks her beloved rescue animals. The attraction that has simmered between Bo and Lucy for a while keeps growing and Bo appoints himself to watch over Lucy. The story that unfolds is Bo and Lucy's love story and Lucy's past catching up.

Once again, this talented author delivers another winner in her already awesome series.
A series about a group of men who have aged out for Uncle Sam but are still skilled enough to become members of the High Mountain Trackers. The goal of HMT is work as a search and rescue unit for various law enforcement entities.
Bo Rivera is one of the members of HMT who has been enchanted by the Lucy Lenoir, the manager of Hart’s Horse Rescue. But his past and his belief that she is younger than she is , keeps his at a distance.
While Lucy too is attracted to Bo, she keeps her distance since she has been keeping her past a secret.
But as a friendship develops and some of the past is divulged, the bond strengthens. What happens when threats surround Lucy and she is being framed? Can Bo keep her safe?
From the first page , the plot was engaging and the characters perfect in their imperfections.
One of my favorite things about this author’s stories is that her characters are strong mature individuals.
A warning, the story deals with the sensitive situation of abuse to a minor.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Buoni Amici Press. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

The moment I finish Freya Barker's current releases, I realize how lucky I am as a reader to have started reading her, as every last book is perfect in my eyes, and High Impact is no exception. It's so awesome to have romance books that surround older couples who get that chance (sometimes second chance as well) at love no matter what has happened to them previously. Lucy is the manager at Hart's Horse Rescue, and she's been closed off for a cool minute, but finally we get the full backstory, and it's 100% understandable that's for sure. Bo is a High Mountain Tracker, and Lucy has been letting him slowly until she sees something that trashes all the progress she's made learning to trust him. Bo has his own set of demons so his actions are understandable as well since his walls are every bit as high as our girl's are, and yet, I had her back all the way LOL. This story of course had the suspense element that I love so much, but it's the emotional component that really did me in as it's intense, and that's all that I'll say about that. Everyone needs this fantastic author in their lives as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is the story of Bo and Lucy in the High Mountain Trackers series. Although book 4, it is possible to read as a standalone as each book deals with a new couple. The earlier books in the series do give a glimpse into the personality of our characters, though.

A trigger warning. The book does deal with SA of a minor as a significant theme (off-page and a re-telling), but the considerable scars remain.

The book combines Bo's patience in getting to know Lucy better with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense. Lucy is an independent woman, refusing to rely on anyone, while Bo is caring and protective. The two have to learn to navigate their differences as the mysterious happenings at The Rescue escalates.

I appreciate that our main characters are more mature, that diversity is celebrated in this book and that we get great secondary characters.

I strongly recommend the whole series. Enjoy!.

Well, with this book we got to know more about Lucy, who's been around since book #1. You always knew there was something up with her past, she was so prickly, but you also loved her. Learned about her past broke my heart! I hated hearing what we did, but it made how she was so much more understandable.

Bo was interesting, I didn't ever see that he was maybe interested in Lucy. But after hearing about his past, you can see why he was standoffish. With their 2 pasts, these 2 were perfect for each other, because you knew once they allowed themselves to fall that would be it, they would be all in.

I was glad that Bo took things slow with Lucy, she needed to be able to choose what she was going to do. It also allowed them to build a base of friendship before each of them spilled their secrets.

The drama at the end was so crazy! I hated what Lucy went through, but also was glad she got her revenge too, even if the actions would never been seen that way. By clearing the threat from her past Lucy now is free to start living her life out in the open, with Bo by her side.

They all have secrets...

But Lucy's are traumatic, heartbreaking and something she hoped would stay buried forever. Whilst Bo's secrets are difficult to deal with Lucy's bring him to his knees, we know he is big, brooding and dangerous, but he is also devoted, loving, understanding and most of all determined to protect his woman...even when she kicks him out on his ass! He may not be able to protect her from the ghosts of her past, but he will do everything in his power to shield her from the current threats.
Another great visit with the High Mountain team.

This was a great story and a fab finale for the series. I liked Lucy all through the other books and couldn't wait for her to find her happy ending. Same can be said for Bo - there's so much to admire about both of these characters that I was thrilled they were the match for this last book. Action, adventure, danger and smoking hot chemistry wove through the first page to the last. Such a great read and I can't wait for what's next by this author :D

High Impact
(High Mountain Trackers #4)
By Freya Barker

So much in one book and I’m still processing a few things!

I think readers could tell right from Book 1 of High Mountain Trackers that when we got to Lucy’s story it would be huge! Each book has given readers a rollercoaster ride of adventure, suspense and ultimately finding each character their perfect partner.

Bo Rivera is the strong silent type, well ok not so silent when he flirts and he loves to flirt. One Lucy Lenior, manager of Hart’s Horse Rescue and a woman who chooses to stay behind the scenes, prefers not be seen, has held Bo’s attention for awhile now. Lucy may have little to say but she will let you know when she wants you to hear her.

When Lucy and Bo are thrown together after she rescues a momma goat and her babes from a nasty farmer, we readers are stepping into a backstory that is years old and one that Lucy wants to remain behind her. As we know, Author Freya Barker isn’t going to let that happen and she will give us more than just a wild read but an emotional read that will have us cheering for Lucy and Bo throughout this story.

As always this author knows how to use tension and suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats and if you are anything like I was shaking our fists and whisper shouting as this story moves towards its finish.

There is not one series I’ve read by author Freya Barker that hasn’t held me captive while reading it. Each series just gets better and you can’t help but feel that you know these characters. The in each series we get women who are strong willed and not afraid of speaking their minds and men who will always be there at the side of their women when needed. If you haven’t read the first three books in High Mountain Trackers you need to pick them up so you will be ready for Bo and Lucy’s story.

Another 5 star read from an author that I don’t think twice about reading!

****Audio Review****

High Impact
(High Mountain Trackers #4)
By Freya Barker

Lucy Lenior is one tough woman. Her secrets would more than break your heart. She’s run from her past and up until now she hopes she has done a good job, after all it’s been years. So maybe just maybe she can take a chance with the sweet talker from the ranch next door, Bo Rivera! He’s a flirt and right now he’s working on getting Lucy to give him some time.

This book is the last one in Author Freya Barker’s High Mountain Trackers and like she always does, this story is full of suspense, two people with pasts that haunt them and a twist I did not expect. One of the best parts of the audio book is the narrators Ada Sinclair and Jamal Roque. They bring Bo and Lucy to life and you can actually feel the suspense before it arrives. They do an amazing job leading readers through this story! I would listen to this audio book again and again. Perfect for a listen-a-long while turning the pages in the paperback.

Audiobook Review 16 Feb 23

I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was ok. The female narrator was fine. The male narrator took some time for me to get used to his cadence and precision in speaking, for all parts that were not dialogue. The narration became very clipped and stiff sounding to me.

When he read individual characters, the narration was good. I didn't have trouble figuring out which character was speaking.

Just to be clear, this did not take away from the enjoyment of the book. Other listeners may not even notice. After I got used to the cadence and listened to how he smoothly changed voices for the dialogue, I didn't notice the difference as much.

I would not change my initial rating. I ended up being as engrossed in the audio version as I was in the ebook.

Original Review 30 Nov 22
This book can be read as a standalone. I suspect that if it is your first in the series, you will want to start at the beginning with book 1, High Meadow.

I never came close to suspecting all of the secrets Lucy was hiding. Even when suspicions about her past started to come to the forefront, I was still completely off base. I had a suspicion about one thing, but never thought it would turn out like it did.

I appreciated Lucy's independence and strength. The author let me see how difficult it was for Lucy to start to release the control she had on her life. I also appreciated Bo's patience and sensitivity.

Even when he wasn't aware of the details of Lucy's past, he was very careful, protective, and gentle with her. No seemed to have this innate sense of how easy it would be to spook Lucy into running.

I would say that the suspense intensified in the last fourth of the book. There is danger, some action, and a few hold your breath moments.

I have said this in other reviews. I love the maturity of the characters in this author's books. They sometimes have had hard experiences, life may not have been kind to them, but, they manage to find some peace and happiness when it is all said and done.

Another thing I have to say about Freya Barker's books is that I if I pick one up, I try to clear enough time to finish it, because it is hard to put down. I am also looking forward to the release of the audiobook.

WOW! Once again Ms. Barker delivers, in her signature style, a riveting and suspense-filled story that is, in my opinion, the best to date in her High Mountain Trackers series! Lucy and Bo's long-awaited romance definitely did NOT disappoint...

High Impact, which is the fourth (and hopefully not the last) book in this series, tells the sometimes difficult to read story of how Lucy Lenoir came to be in Libby Montana, running a horse rescue and hiding from a past that nobody suspects. As the story unfolds, we learn exactly what Lucy ran from...and the gut-wrenching, chill-inducing facts made me fall head-over-heels in love with her! The strength and determination she has to overcome what she went through and how she eventually lets the persistent Bo Rivera in are a few of the things that make this book one of my TOP FAVE reads from Freya Barker!

As for Bo, he was somewhat of a surprise to me...throughout the other books in this series, the glimpses of him had me thinking a few things; one, he was the quiet, unassuming type. The "still waters run deep" and oh my, with him they DEFINITELY do! The second is that he was a grump and a bit of a loner...but as his back-story is revealed (with the help of the introduction to his feisty, 81 year old spitfire of a Momma!) I started to realize just how deep those waters run! It's always the quiet ones you have to watch! Once Bo figures out there's a whole lot more going on with Lucy than he could imagine, his Alpha-mode is activated and let me just say that it was a thing of beauty to witness! *sigh*

As previously stated, I am so hoping that we haven't seen the last of this AMAZING cast of characters from Libby Montana! Whatever this author has in store, I will gladly accept but I am not ready to let them go just yet! And if you HAVEN'T started this series, I strongly urge you to start with the first book, High Meadow! Yes, you CAN read them as standalones, but the experience of this series is soooooo much better if they are read in order!

Let's just lay it out there - sex and romance don't end at age 40. The current impressive addition to the series, "High Impact" again displays the epic talent of Freya Barker to write steamy novels about realistic, over-40 characters. (Even luckier for her fans, she writes more than one series.)

The High Mountain Tracker series is built around a ranch of horse breeders who also provide horseback search and rescue in Libby, Montana. Lucy Lenoir manages Hart's Horse Rescue, whose owner (Alex Hart) moved in with Jonas Harvey of the nearby High Meadow Ranch. Bo Rivera works at the ranch with Jonas but lives in town to be near his 81-year-old tiny, feisty Momma. Although the petite, youthful blond Lucy draws his notice, he keeps his distance. A seriously disastrous previous relationship made him gun-shy. Although Lucy owns a deeply troubled past, she's attracted to Bo and fighting it. Yet when 40-year -old Bo discovers that Lucy is 38 years old and not the 20-something he thought, all bets are off. Bo considers Lucy's stubborn, hard-nosed tough exterior a challenge. "Bring it on, Lucy Lenoir. Bring it on."

Two baby rescue goats provide Bo the opportunity to wiggle into her life. He offers assistance with their round-the-clock feeding schedule so Alex doesn't burn out with running the rescue and caring for the kids. Everything seems to be moving along nicely until strange events leave Lucy uneasy and the sheriff investigating. All too soon, it seems Lucy's past has caught up to her and she's ready to bolt. But has she waited too late? Another riveting page-turner of a romance will have you reading deep into the night breathless to reach the end. Of this book. Because I'm going to cry if there's not another story and couple soon.

High Impact is the fourth book in this author’s newest romantic suspense series, High Mountain Trackers. As an avid romantic suspense reader since I was probably too young to read romance, I first found this author with her PASS Security Series. After gobbling up the entire series, Freya Barker has cemented herself on my must-read list for romantic suspense authors. You can read it as a standalone title, but as a series fanatic, I feel you’ll get more from the characters and the story if you read them in order. BUT…it’s not necessary to enjoy each book.

I love that this series's main characters are more mature. I’m no longer in my twenties, so this appealed to me and helped me connect with them easier. I’ve been curious about Lucy’s past since the first book, so I gobbled up this book in one sitting. Her story was beyond heartbreaking, and only someone with Bo’s history could truly understand her. They were perfection. And his mom nearly stole the show. You can’t beat the setting, either. Montana is one of my favorite places to visit. The plot ebbed and flowed as you’d expect from good suspense, which is why I keep returning to this author’s works. Add in a bit of a twist, and I honestly couldn’t put it down. This book was the perfect trifecta: great characters, a beautiful, rugged setting, and an ideal pace. The secondary characters are interesting, engaging, and intriguing, as well. I was really looking forward to this story, and Freya Barker did not disappoint. I can’t wait for the next one!

Once I started Lucy and Bo’s story, I could not put it down. “High Impact” is action-packed, heartfelt and a wonderful addition to the “High Mountain Trackers” series.

Lucy has worked hard to rebuild her life in Montana with the rescue she started with her friend, Alex. Lucy had also promised herself no more relationships but she wasn’t counting on Bo to enter her life. Bo is one of the trackers with High Mountain and has had a special spot for Lucy from the moment she came to Montana. But when Lucy’s past starts to come back and haunt her, Bo vows to protect her no matter what.

I loved the instant connection that we get from Bo and Lucy from the first chapters we get of them together. Lucy is independent, strong willed and a survivor who I liked from the very beginning. Her need to succeed on her own is admirable but I loved reading about her embracing this new family she had and accepting help. Bo is an absolute dream and I fell for him right along with Lucy. He’s protective, kind and never rushed Lucy for more than she was ready for. A complete Cowboy gentleman and willing to go at Lucy’s pace was a complete plus. The suspense of Lucy’s past pulled me and I was trying to figure out who was coming for Lucy as much as Bo was. I hope we get more from the High Mountain Trackers in the future.

This is book four in The High Mountain Trackers series and it is Bo and Lucy's story and it is definitely a must read. Bo has now retired from the military and he is now a High Mountain Tracker as he still has his skilled to be able to do search and rescue. Lucy is now manager of harts Horse rescue and she hasn't had a easy life and has kept her past a secret and now trying to move forward with her life. Bo and Lucy are both attracted to each other but neither have done anything about it because of their pasts and what they have gone through but they do have a great friendship that gets stronger the more time that they spend together. When Lucy's past returns and she is framed for something that she didn't do will Bo be able to eliminate the threat and clear Lucy's name before things get out of hand and put her in danger. I absolutely loved Bo and Lucy together are they are perfect for each other and you find yourself hoping that everything works out so they can get the happy ending that they both deserve. I definitely recommend you read this book and series and you will not be disappointed as it is so well written and totally addictive and I can't wait to read more book's in the future.

Scratch the Goose, what a book.
I like all the people at High Meadow Ranch. Lucy we already know a little as Alex's friend, and everybody suspected , that she has a secret,
However, the revealed life story of Lucy totally freaked me out.. Poor girl, , no wonder she wants to live so secluded.
Bo is a total sweetheart in this book, and he tries everything to prove Lucy, that love can be worth living.
Trust in fellow human beings is a big theme in this book, friendship and of course trauma processing. All this, the author has packed in her usual sovereign manner in a straight story and added a huge portion of suspense.
And again a book by Freya Barker of which I must say: It is the best. ( I kind of say that to every book of hers :)
The language style is great, the protagonists all trumendous, and High Meados a unique world with high recognition value.
I really hope Dan will get his story too , he was one of the secret stars of this book for me. Next to Lucy of course. She is so strong and so wonderful.
Just like Bo. I liked the contrasts in the characters. Bo, who is tough on the outside and quite soft on the inside, and in contrast Lucy, who lives only secretly, but is quite tough on the inside.

These two have been dancing around each other for a while and we finally get Bo and Lucy’s story….warning…you will need to hold onto your heart as they two will steal it away.
Bo has been keeping his distance from Lucy, mistaking her age thinking she is a lot younger than him. He has his reasons for the age difference but once he learns the truth…watch out as there is no stopping him from getting HIS woman, he will tear down all her walls piece by piece.
Lucy has her own reasons from not wanting anyone near or get to close, she has built a life and she will protect it with everything she has, no matter what, but Bo is determined and bit by bit she lets him in and when her past finally catches up to her….will Bo be able to save her in time.
What a heartbreaking and emotional read at times, tissues needed to wipe up the mess but when all is said and done….heartbreaking to uplifting as these two meddle their ways into each other’s hearts. The strength and tenacity that is Lucy and the determination and protectiveness of Bo says it all. Add in the suspense and danger that comes to a head, makes it a read that won’t be put down until the ending.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
