A captured, tortured, and dying Navy SEAL… His mysterious and lethal savior… A soulless oil baron who will stop at nothing to satiate his greed…
When Luck Goes AWOL
Dylan King’s—Lucky to his SEAL brothers—legendary luck has finally run dry. Captured by Amaru rebels during a mission gone FUBAR, he’s facing certain death. His body broken, his eyes blind, he can’t escape on his own, and the rebels have made sure his teammates will never find him. But then he hears a voice. He might be blind, but his ears work just fine. And that’s a woman’s voice. A young, American woman. Exactly the kind of prey the rebels traffic in. Even if she frees him from his chains, she’ll never get him to safety before the rebels return. By trying to save him, she condemns herself to death. He tries to drive her away, knowing that when she leaves, she takes his life with her.
But this is no ordinary woman. And she’s far from helpless.
When life loses meaning
Andressa Almeida is in the rebel camp for one reason, and it isn’t to rescue a broken and dying man. She’s barely staying ahead of the pig who slaughtered her entire family. Freeing this man and taking him to safety could cost her her own life. And she’s not yet ready to join her family on the other side. Her vengeance is not complete. But when he tries to save her life, at the expense of his own, she knows she can’t leave him to such a slow, agonizing death.
At the crossroads of luck and loss, deep in the Amazon Rainforest, love slowly grows. A man with no luck is given his greatest prize of all. A woman with nothing to live for is offered a life worth living.
But a powerful enemy is gathering his forces and hunting them down. He’ll stop at nothing to take what he wants and punish those who defy him.
It started good with a strong/kick-ass heroine who was the one that was rescuing Hero & killing the badies, but it quickly went into my DNF pile.
I read 15% and skimmed the rest before giving up because there was nothing happening in the first 50% other then heroine hunting for food, cleaning/washing him & tending to his wounds - and reading how heroine washed his dick & ass clean, how he needed to poop, peed in a "bowl" (while heroine watched?) and so on. WHY would this be entertaining to read in a "Romance"? *sheesh*.
When they finally hooked up, that was also when I had enough because by then, heroine had become a simpering idiot, Hero was a non-Hero still ,and an asshole on top, and the "suspense" that I would think would happen by now, was not anywhere close. So by chapter 26, I was done.
Get your tissues out because you will need them also, buckle up because there will be so many ups and downs and you will find yourself screaming for them in so many ways. When Dylan alpha through and through, (a.k.a Lucky) is captured by the Amaru rebels enduring torture day in and day out while captured he knows his life will end painfully until fate throws him a lifeline, but that lifeline may cost another life as well and he can’t allow that. Ressa’s life hasn’t been easy, accepting the death of her family stays with her but it also drives her to find who took her family from her and on this journey, she runs into a Special Ops. Alpha who was captured and tortured and she knows she can’t just leave him to die so coming up with a plan to save him and herself is their only option. So, again buckle up there is suspense, hope and love but where will it lead them to happiness with a little peace?

Love this authors books and this one is no exception. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. There's plenty of action, suspense, betrayal and a HEA. Lucky was captured and tortured on their last mission. They were betrayed by one of their own. Ressa ended up at the camp in the Rainforest where he was being held, but she was there for another reason when she found him. They have a long road to freedom. Excellent read. This was a very good story, well done and kept me looking for what happens next. I will definitely read the next book.
Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to give it 5 stars and here is why.
Normally, minor grammar mistake don’t make lower my rating, but the misusage or I should say the over use of the word “Pig(s)” was ridiculous. Specially because it came from someone who is supposedly educated and even went to Harvard. I felt like Ressa did not know any other word on her vocabulary. Nothing wrong with using the word Pig few times in order to compare the disgusting acts of the rebels to those of a filthy animal like a Pig (generally that’s how they are unless unless you have them as pets).
But Ressa only referred to the Rebels as Pigs, rarely calling them the correct word. REBELS. ( I did not count but I think that word “pig” was used at least a hundred times). It is hard to explain how ghetto and low class that sounded without actually reading the book yourself specially because that vocabulary did not go accordingly to the rest of her personality and education.
I can imagine her going to the police and giving her statement. “Well, the pigs did this and that” There are not pigs, they are rebels. It got really irritating and I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes.
The other reason why I give it a 4 stars instead of 5 is because the ending was rushed. I normally don’t like reading a book that is over 300 pages because they tend to give way too much information and repeat the same, or just add drama, drag the story in order to add pages. This book was over 400 and it went surprisingly fast. I did not feel it was dragged. I really enjoyed, but at the end, everything was rushed.
One moment everyone is leaving Sousa house after he gets killed and then next moment, time has passed (weeks , months) since Ressa had her cast off already.
We did not get the moment when Ressa arrived to Virginia, settled on Lucky home, meets his team mates. We were not part of the moment when they said “I love you” to each other for the first time. Those are important moments on a military romance book. And I think on every book. Since he is a SEAL, those other men are his family. It felt like, the author used all of the pages she had planned for this book, and then cut off so many important details, and finished it in a rush. I was disappointed with this.
Overall, the story was really good, and well written. I enjoyed the plot and the characters.
Lucky thought his famous luck had finally run out. On a mission with his SEAL team in the Amazon jungle, he was separated from the rest of the team, captured and tortured. He has been moved from the area he was captured and so many weeks have gone by that he has mostly given up any hope of being rescued. He knows he doesn't have long to live since he hasn't been given much food or water and his wounds has gotten infected. He can't even see any more. The one night it gets very quiet and to his shock a strange woman comes into the hut where he is chained to the wall. She is Andressa and she is trying to free him. He knows it is very dangerous for her to be in the enemy camp since they do horrible things to women so he tries to chase her away . He just wants her to notify his team that there is traitor in their midst. Andressa will not give up and actually frees him and takes him someplace to heal.
Andressa was brought up until she was 12, in an Amazonian indigenous tribe while her dad studied them. At 12, her mom demanded that she should return to the states to get her education. Andressa is truly part of both worlds. A few months ago, she had just gotten her doctorate from Harvard on indigenous medicine which she had learned from her tribe growing up. She returned to the tribe where she grew up only to find a massacre. Her father's video cameras gave her a true picture of what happened. Her father and the natives had been torture and murdered so their land could be stolen. Now Andressa is looking for vengeance and is tracking down the killers. She had arranged for a shipment of posioned liquor be sent to the camp and goes in to ensure that everyone has died. That's when she finds Lucky. She is determined to fee him and help him heal by using jungle medicine. Spending time with Lucky has her falling more in love with him every day. She is going to have to decide whether she will keep killing those responsible for her father and second families death which will probably end up in her death or follow her heart and stay with Lucky if they can ever get out of the jungle.
I read the earlier books in this series ages ago and so had forgotten how good this series was. I happily re-read the previous books leading up to this one which I would recommend but only for enjoyment of the authors books, it’s not necessary to enjoy this book which does stand alone really well.
A good 40% of this book is intensely focused on Ressa and Lucky as part of the rescue and survival from his capture and there are few of any other characters really covered during this time. It’s an intense portion of the book and you can keenly follow them as they begin to fall in love over this period and develop stronger feelings for each other whilst sir boo big in the worst of circumstances. I especially loved how in this environment, Ressa was the master. She absolutely hands down knew more than Lucky and was the reason they survived. Even if he had been 100% she would still have the edge.
The latter part of the book goes a little more how the operation alpha series frames these things - woman in trouble, teams + Rex pull it out of the bag to rescue her. Again a fab read but slightly against the grain as in true style Ressa didn’t really need anyone to rescue her, that girl just goes ahead and rescues herself in any circumstance.
One of my favourite reads in a long while, I’m looking forward to the rest of the team getting theirs.
Tessa finds Lucky (Dylan) near death and chained to a wall in a hut in camp of Armaru fighters deep in the Amazon. He had been tortured for days and she finds him while checking to see if anyone surveyed her gift of poisoned alcohol.
Ressa spends weeks nursing Lucky slowly back to health using native healing remedies and her skill in living in the remote and preserve within the rainforest.
Both of these two characters have experience unusually horrible events in their life. They seem to have been brought together through fate. Lucky is desperate to get in touch with his chain of command to alert them the Seal team having being betrayed by someone from within their sphere. Ressa is enjoying each day she has with Lucky and is storing memories for her lonely future.
Time spent together first brings a deep appreciation and respect, but deeper feelings between Lucky and Ressa develop, but she is hesitant to trust he can look past what she has done for the sake of avenging her family and is hesitant to trust she will be accepted in his life.
The journey these two take is deeply moving, and explores the depths of pain both characters have experienced. The storyline is emotional and intense.
I was engaged from start to finish with these characters and their individual stories, their eventual romance was a gradual shift and progression due to their time together.

Luck Under Fire is the sixth book in Trish McCallan’s amazing, action-packed military romantic suspense series, Operation: Hot Spots. This is a standalone book with no cliffhangers and a fantastic happily ever after. The storyline is extremely interesting, the strength and fortitude of the hero and heroine was unbelievable as was the off the charts chemistry.
Navy SEAL, Dylan “Lucky” King’s luck has run out. Captured and tortured to near death, he has little hope of rescue, until Andressa Almeida stumbles upon him in an Amaru rebel camp. Andressa is seeking revenge for the slaughter of her family when she finds a horribly tortured man in a rebel camp. As they work together to stay one step ahead of the rebels and a powerful enemy, they begin to heal from their loss and injuries. Trust, friendship, passion and love quickly blossom, but will they escape the Amazon Rainforest before they are caught and kill? Read it and find out!
Although I have enjoyed many of McCallan’s books, this was the first book in the Operation: Hot Spots that I have read and it won’t be my last. I look forward to reading the first books in this series and I can’t wait for the next to come out.

Holy wow. I kind of don't even know what to say about this book. I was immediately pulled into the story, and there was no way I was stopping until I knew how it would all turn out. This story kept me glued to the pages, around every corner is a new unexpected surprise. I feel like there is so much more I want to say about this book, but I don't dare for fear of giving away too many of those surprises. The drive and perseverance that both Lucky and Ressa displayed is utterly awe inspiring, as is their ingenuity. I loved these two characters together. They were a partnership in the truest sense of the word. The strength of one only lifted the other higher. I may have only just finished reading this one, but already I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
Lucky is in serious trouble and he has no way out after being captured and beaten that he is at deaths door. Ressa is there for vengeance after the creatin killed her family and she now has nothing to live for except that. A last minute decision has her trying to get the soldier to come with her. In the beginning, they argue so strongly but she is stronger and they leave, with the terror on their trail. The characters are complex and the story grabs you tightly right from the start. The action-packed plot is full of surprises and twists, drama and danger, but also hope and some romance as the two start to trust each other more and more. Loved the group and the bond they have that makes them stronger. Great ending.

During a FUBAR’d rescue mission SEAL Dylan ‘Lucky’ Knight’s luck ran out when he was captured by Amaru rebels and his team was unable to find him. Andressa Almeida vowed vengeance on the rebels on video killing her family. She checked to see if her volley, poisoning the rebel camp worked, Ressa found Lucky, barely breathing, and all the rebels dead.
Ressa notes two rebels on the video aren’t at the camp so she concentrates on rescuing and nursing Lucky. Meanwhile, Amaru leader, Sousa, evades Ressa’s poison and orders a thug to capture her and ‘prepare her for trafficking. Lucky’s anxious to heal and advise his team of a traitor, Ressa wants intimacy between them as shared feelings bud between them. When the bird comes to pick them up, they’re surrounded by rebels, Lucky is injured again and Ressa is left behind. Rating: 4.5stars
Lucky may have been dead if it was not for Ressa, rescuing him from the rebels and the torture he had to endure at their hands. Ressa, not expecting to find him at the rebel camp could not in good conscience leave him behind. Even though she knew he might slow her down in her plight. And as she nursed him back to health she was in awe of the strength and resilience he showed. But she could not let anyone deter her from what she set out to do, not even this man who looked at her if she was a hero. This is a fast paced military suspense story, page turned and well written. Look forward to the next book in the series.

Wow! Trish kept me on edge virtually through this entire book. We've been waiting to find Lucky since Dev and Madeline's book, and this book did not disappoint. I couldn't hardly put it down once I got started. Action, suspense, trial after trial for Lucky and Ressa. Ressa is a strong, independent, fiesty woman, which I love reading about, especially when they find men like Lucky who appreciate and love them for it. This story was full of suspense and emotion with a great HEA. I can't wait to learn about the rest of the team.
If Luck Under Fire is any indication of the SEAL Team Four's addition to the Operation Hot Spot series we are all in for some more great reading. I marveled at how quickly I was caught up in Lucky's plight and how resourceful Ressa was in saving his life. They certainly were both warriors on a mission but for completely different reasons. Merging their two quests was as inevitable as them falling in love and finding their happy ever after.
Bonus...having having familiar faces from the SEAL of Protection series become part of Lucky's mission along with all knowing Tex.
Another operation alpha story and it is so good! Lucky is in a bad situation, but then is rescued by an unlikely source, a woman who knows natural medicines. Their journey to HEA takes a few turns with violence and bloodshed, but their fierce wills and loyalty and yes luck come through at all corners. Abe, Tex and the crew are back and help make a major rescue operation take place. Loved seeing Lucky get his HEA and seeing Tex back! Looking forward to Grumpy and Squish getting their stories!
Part of the Special Forces: Operation Alpha series a well written suspense story that kept me turning pages. Andressa Almeida ends up saving Dylan King/Lucky when he is captured by Amaru rebels. Their story has suspense, drama, danger, villains, twists, turns, kidnapping, and romance. I was not putting this book down until I was finished.I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lucky is his nic because he has always been extremely lucky, but this situation is different. Ressa finds our hero shackled and tortured, near death to his massive amount of wounds all of which are infected. Her grit and determination were about the killers of her family, not to save this man but she uses both to save and heal Lucky.
Lucky and Ressa's path isn't easy, nor is it sweet, but it's an intense ride, one I enjoyed very much.
LUCK UNDER FIRE Hot Spot, Navy Seals in Action Book 6 by Trish McCallan As with every book I have read of Trish McCallan’s this is another EXCELLENT story! I was pulled in from the very first page and could not put it down. Lucky and Ressa’s story is so addictive, so very well written, so angst filled with plenty of suspense. I am not going to give anything away, you should definitely read this for yourself. This is 5 stars.

Have mercy this book is awesome ! Starts right out of the gate with action. Lucky needs saving and it's coming from an unexpected source. Ressa is one tough woman. I love her strength, passion, how she is caught between two different cultures , and how she just wants to be accepted for who she is.

I really enjoyed this book especially Lucky and Ressa. Ressa is my new favorite heroine- intelligent, brave and strong. She brings unique elements to the story. Highly recommend this book. Plus all the talk of the heat/humidity makes it a perfect book for missing warm weather this winter.
Ressa and Lucky…..these two will have you on the edge of your seat and biting your nails!!!!! Downright awesome action and suspense with a healthy dose of emotion and a romance bubbling during a race through the jungle. I loved this story so much!!!! Definitely a five star read!!! Highly recommended!!!
The story is full of suspense, action, and romance that kept me reading the book in one go. The main characters complimented each other well, and I liked how the characters developed throughout the story. I am excited to see what is to come in the next book. I highly recommend this book!

This was my first read from this author. The story had my attention from the start. The only problem I had with it was that it was written in the third person, sorry but this is a deal breaker for me. I will be reading more from this author.

When Luck gets taken by rebels in Fubar he has been tortured and blinded and he knows he will never escape but when he hears a sweet American voice he may have some hope after all. Andressa is seeking revenge from the rebels for the killing of her family and only helps him after he helped her. There is suspense, drama and some twists in this romance with good characters.
Luck Under Fire immediately garnered my attention and held me entrenched in the story at every turn all the way to the end. It is a delight to watch Lucky and Ressa navigate the tough situations and to also navigate their growing feelings for each other. Fantastic book. Very highly recommend.
Omg this book was absolutely fantastic and had me enthralled from the beginning until the end. The storyline flows throughout the book and will keep you hooked and have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I absolutely loved lucky and ressa story.

Drama, danger, tragedy, anger, fear and pain have touched Dylan and Ressa. When she rescues him from his captors, bonds begin to form. Born of necessity their partnership evolves from esteem to attraction, something visceral and rich. I enjoyed this action packed story, that had elements of healing and romance.
