Art as we know it today could not exist had not the revolutionary work of the Renaissance artists paved the way. Widely considered the most important and influential movement in the history of fine arts, literature, architecture, and science, the Renaissance marked the emergence of Western civilization from the Middle Ages into the modern era. Beginning in the 14th century in Italy, the movement spread throughout Europe by the late 15th century, the main centers of fine art activity being in Florence, the Low Countries, and Germany. For the first time, art became intellectual; influenced by humanism, artists experimented with secular subjects and revived classical antiquity. Advances in anatomy and geometry produced more realistic depictions in terms of space and perspective for the Italians, while new oil painting techniques made their mark in Flemish painting and woodcuts and engravings were the specialties of the Germans.

Manfred Wundram (1925-2015) studied art history, archaeology, music history, and German literature. He taught art history at Ruhr University in Bochum for many years and published widely on the Early and High Renaissance.

Siendo novata en la disciplina de la Historia del Arte, de vez en cuando he tenido algunas dificultades para entender algunos tecnicismos empleados; sin embargo, me ha parecido intuitivo y “seguible”.

Le pongo 3 estrellas por varios motivos: por mi nivel de comprensión, por los tecnicismos empleados, porque creo que dan por sentado que el lector va a entender lo que se explica cuando en realidad pienso que este libro tiene la finalidad de ser un libro introductorio de pintura renacentista. He echado en falta notas a pie o un glosario con breves definiciones o explicaciones un poco más detalladas de conceptos y momentos históricos; y porque entre la cantidad de pintores mencionados, no se ha dado a conocer en ningún momento a ninguna mujer, literalmente ha sido un libro falocéntrico total (tristemente no me sorprende) donde se exaltaban sus técnicas, sus dominios con las pinturas, los maestros y sus fuentes de inspiración, pero no se menciona ninguna pintora. Me ha resultado desalentador.

Si tú que me lees conoces libros de pintura renacentista donde se mencionen e incluyan mujeres artistas, por favor contesta mi comentario porque me encantará descubrir recomendaciones donde exista más diversidad y se las de un espacio.

Por otra parte, he de comentar que gracias a este libro he podido repasar algunos pintores ya conocidos y descubrir otros nuevos.

Me he quedado embelesada con algunas obras porque me ha sorprendido el nivel de detalle con el control de luces, la dimensión y el color hasta crear la composición final. Un ejemplo de esto último ha sido Antonello Da Messina y su obra «San Jerónimo en su estudio» (1474-1475). No lo conocía y me ha marcado muchísimo por todos los niveles de detalle y la combinación de perspectivas. Todo un descubrimiento.

Recomiendo este libro a toda persona que esté familiarizada con conceptos de Historia del Arte y con la Historia pero no tenga un nivel muy avanzado, quiera repasar o saber más sobre este Movimiento.

Sanat tarihine ilgisi olan herkese Taschen’ın Basic Art 2.0 serisini öneririm. Resim/fotoğraf kalitesi çok yüksek, bilgilendirici ve fiyatı da kalitesine göre oldukça iyi.
Kitabın ilk kısmı genel olarak 15 ve 16. yüzyıl Avrupa resim tarihini anlatıyor. Sonrasında ise Rönesans'ın en önemli ressamlarının tablolarının incelemelerine yer veriliyor. Her tablo için yaklaşık bir sayfalık detaylı ve bilgilendirici metinler yer alıyor. Yorumlarda yazarların hayatlarına da kısaca yer verilmiş. Ağırlıklı olarak İtalyan sanatçılara yer verilse de Kuzey Rönesans sanatçılarının da eserleri bulunuyor.
Kitabın baskısı oldukça iyi. Fotoğraflar yüksek çözünürlüklü ve renk kalitesi çok yüksek.
Rönesans'a giriş için güzel bir kitap olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Sanat kitaplarını en basan yayınevi şeklinde ban salmış Taschen Yayınları, Türkiye’de Remzi Kitabevi’yle beraber ortak bir işe kalkışıp, Türkçe edisyonunu da uyarlamışlar. Haberin kötü kısmı şu: serisi pek azı çevrilmiş. 16 eser kadar. Neyse efendim, kitabı dönelim.

Rönesans sözcüğünün kökeni, ilk olarak 1550’de Vasari’nin “Sanatçıların Yaşamı” adlı sanat/biyografisinde “rinascita” sözcüğüyle sanatı yeniden doğuşundan ilk söz eden kişi olmuş. İyi sanatın doğuşunu müjdelemiş. İtalyan sanatı, en başta Giotto ve Donatello gibi isimler tarafından temsil edilmiş. Erkan Rönesans dönemi sanatçıları, doğanın kusursuz bir şekilde taklit edilmesini savunmuş. Giotto ve Masaccio, yeniden doğuşun birinci ve ikinci aşanlarını temsil etmiş. Yüksek Rönesans’ta ise, doğanın kusursuz taklit edilme aşaması sona ermiş, hatta bozma yoluna gitmiştir. Michelangelo’nun “manyerizm” akımı tam da bunu temsil eder. Parmagionino’nun “Uzun Boyunlu Meryem”i buna en güzel örnektir.

Kuzey’de ise Almanya ve Hollanda’da, Erken Rönesans sürecini aynen takip etmişlerdir. Van Eyck kardeşler özellikle önemlidir. Jan Van Eyck, boyaların karışımını daha iyi ve birkaç kat sürerek daha parlak objeleri boyayabilmek için, boyaya yağ ilave ederek “yağlı boyayı” ilk kez kullanan ressam olmuş. Reform Hareketinin ilanı (16. Yüzyılda) Martin Luther tarafından başlatılan bu boykot süreci, coğrafi keşifleri, Rönesansı ve diğer önemli tarihi olayları Avrupa ile izleyen Almanya’yı taşralaştırıp, köylü sınıfı oluşturmuş ve sonrasında gelişen bütün devrimler ve hareketlerde Almanya’yı diğer ortak coğrafya ülkelerince geride bırakmış. Guiseppe Arcimboldo ise, sebze, meyve ve belirli hayvanları kullanarak resmettiği portreleri, zamanının “Kübizm” akımının başlangıcı sayılabilir.

Her sanatseverin okuması gereken, kronolojik sıralanmış, kaliteli baskı şeklinde hazırlanmış. Taschen serisini okumaya devam edeceğim. Rönesans döneminin önemli simalarının eserleri, eser hikayelerini okuyup anlamak için hazırlanmış. Sanatla kalın!
