Every year the boogie man comes out to play and I’ve heard his appetite is insatiable.
Thanks to the selection ceremony, one sacrifice is all it takes to keep his appetite sated.
But this year is different.
As a human in a shifter’s world, I’m unable to stop the Alpha’s son when he offers me up to the monster, forgoing the ceremony and the traditions that go with it.
When the boogieman arrives, none of us were prepared for what we saw.
Little did we all know, the monster that lurks in the night isn’t the monster we should fear.
Insatiable is a monster romance standalone, involving a wendigo-like monster with a human female. With that being said, triggers are teratophilia as the monster doesn't revert into human form during spice scenes, and attempted rape by a human. Read at your own risk as this is intended for mature audiences.
This story had the makings of a 5 star... I loved the setting, the theme, and the very unique idea of a romance novel with a FREAKING WENDIGO. Y'all, I was basically SALIVATING for this. My disappointment was immeasurable and words can't convey how bummed I was that the execution of this fell so short of my expectations 😔.
This story is set in a shifter world. For most of the book, I honestly was not sure if this was an omegaverse book or not, because it mentioned shifting, alphas, mates, knotting, and kept talking about females and being able to scent their arousal. I guess it wasn't though? 🤔
Basically, our heroine, Artemis, is a human female that lives in a wolf shifter tribe in the woods. In this world, humans are basically slaves to shifters. She was raised in this tribe, and is frequently bullied and sexually harassed by the alpha's son (who she grew up with), Rome. Without the book plot summary, you would probably think that her main love interest is Rome... but nope. Honestly, this would have been a darker and more taboo story if he was our hero. Yes, you read that right. Her childhood bully as the villainous romance hero would have been more titillating than the goddamn maneating Wendigo. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. So, there are talks of sacrificing a human for the Wendigo in the forest to eat, since the wolf tribe has a peace arrangement with it so long as they provide a human sacrifice every year. Artemis is convinced she will be chosen next, since Rome keeps picking on her. She's wrong, though, and Rome instead has a different plan for her when he takes her out to the forest, if you know what I mean 👀. But this is interrupted when Artemis runs away right into the Wendigo. The Wendigo then rescues her and takes her back to his home, where their life of calm domesticity begins.
Now, this probably sounds hilarious and awesome. You literally have a Wendigo wearing pants frying up bacon and pancakes for his female sacrifice like they're having a cute breakfast tea party. He's a complete and total gentleman that takes care of Artemis and politely lets her stay with him. In fact, he's so uppity that he even fumes about how RUDE and UNCOUTH his guest is when she gets constantly horny and repeatedly masturbates in his house at night 💀. This is cute and funny, but... the way it's executed was just so domestic and NOT hot or romantic. It felt more like an awkward comedy.
"Sunshine," Our Wendigo Hero: I don't really understand what the author was going for with this guy. He read more like an awkward cute OM love interest, who would be the "wholesome" option for our heroine in a dark taboo romance. He wasn't very alpha, or OTT jealous or possessive, AT ALL. He was basically your sweet, boring neighborhood Wendigo. I found very little sexual chemistry between him and the heroine, which is absolutely insane considering he's a monstrous wendigo that has a huge dick and gets horny from scenting the heroine's arousal. It takes real talent to make that seem unsexy and domestic 💀. There was so much more raw sexual energy and chemistry between Rome (the heroine's bully) and her. I also felt extremely disappointed that we got no deets on his previous sexual experiences. You can't just bring up that this is a wendigo that has a torso sized dick and had CONSENUAL sex with other human women before??? Like wait WHAT?? It's also mentioned in passing he took nonconsenual sex from other women as well, so apparently he's also a rapist???? But he literally never showed any inclination of being one through the entire story, so I'm here just like:
Artemis, Our Heroine: Artemis was a reaaally weird heroine. Again, I don't get her. She's played off as a super innocent, inexperienced virgin. But then she's super horny over everyone and everything 😶. I'm normally all for the trope of a heroine who had an innocent crush on a nice OM before meeting her sexy villainous hero. But this was the complete opposite. Artemis had a huge crush on her rapist harassing bully. Then she got super horny for his evil dad who was sexing up her best friend. Then she started panting after our sweet Wendigo hero and throwing herself at him. I was like, CALM DOWN WOMAN, DAYUM. 😬 I definitely think I could've done without all that OM drama and appreciated it more if she was just letting her freak flag fly with only being attracted to the monstrous Wendigo creature. Also, I'm not sure what to think about the fact that the author wants us to believe that an inexperienced virgin managed to completely take a monster cock the size of an ARM up her vag with no prior stretching... and experienced mostly pleasure from it. AUTHOR, HOW?!! 🥺
There were a ton of unanswered questions that were just left off, and the ending was atrocious. What happened with that jealous OW siren that TRIED TO MURDER AND EAT THE HEROINE? What happened to the heroine's best friend Willow?? Was she really just taken off screen and killed off by Rome's dad for getting pregnant??? What's the hero going to do about not eating humans and not being able to heal???? How can the story just end with the heroine telling the hero she loves him, and him being like, "Really?" AND HE DOESN'T EVER RETURN IT OR SAY IT BACK. Even after she says it multiple times. I NEED ANSWERS, DAMMIT.
Overall, the writing could have used an editor - there were numerous misspellings, and lots of super short paragraphs that could have been combined together to make things less stilted.
All in all, I'd give this an A+ for theme and idea, but the execution was so far off from what one would expect, it detracted from the entire experience. If this was supposed to be a light hearted, OTT comedy with not a lot of taboo darkness, the summary and book cover would have benefited from being changed to look less gritty and serious. The author gives a warning talking about how mature and dark this book is, and I'm like... this read more like a comedy? It's a shame - I really really wanted to love this.
Safety: * Heroine is an inexperienced virgin. * Hero is NOT a virgin - mentions multiple times having sex a long time ago. * Some OM drama - heroine always had a crush on the alpha's son, Rome, when growing up with him. That wore off after he started upping the degree of abuse he did to her. Rome keeps sexually harassing heroine and trying to rape her. Heroine also gets turned on by Rome's dad, the alpha of the tribe. She mentions how handsome he is and masturbates to the sounds of him fucking her friend. * No real OW drama. There's a female shopkeeper that keeps flirting with him and wanting him, but he's not interested. She tries to kill the heroine out of jealousy, but the hero puts a stop to it. * No cheating * SEX SCENES WITH MONSTER / NON HUMAN HERO * HEA I guess? Ending cuts off very abruptly.
I really wanted to see the epilogue, but there was none! Also, the story was interrupted so abruptly, it felt like the author was tired of writing this story.
Alright gather ‘round because this one? This one ate (pun fully intended). Insatiable is a monster romance novella that had me clutching my pumpkin spice latte and whispering, “what in the delicious dark fantasy is happening here?”
Every year, the local werewolves throw a human sacrifice to the Boogeyman except plot twist he’s not some bedtime story creature. He’s a real, growly, horned hybrid monster with a skull for a face and the kind of feral energy that makes your brain short-circuit. And yes, he growls a lot….
Our FMC Artemis ends up being the unlucky sacrifice this year after an altercation with the alpha’s spoiled son (who, by the way, is a walking red flag parade). But instead of being devoured, she meets Ezekiel aka Sunshine, her pet name for the terrifying Wendigo who can snap bones and cook a mean meal. I’m talking apron on, wood-chopping, domestic monster husband material. Like excuse me, where do I sign up for this forest?
The worldbuilding? Insane for only 114 pages. We’ve got lion shifters, sirens, towns ruled by monsters, and humans living as slaves—it’s dark, it’s grim, it’s fascinating. Honestly, I wish it was 200 pages longer just so I could live in this messed-up magical world a bit more.
Ezekiel’s monstrous charm + Artemis’s defiance = perfect Halloween chaos. This novella is brutal, sweet, spooky, and spicy in all the best ways.
Solid 10/10 if you want a short, creepy, monster-filled smut treat for spooky season. Also—Ezekiel in an apron? Yeah. That image will live rent-free in my head forever
Blurb: Every year the boogie man comes out to play and I’ve heard his appetite is insatiable.
Review: Decent read. Although obvi Artemis lacks some common sense in falling for a known human-eater, the resulting relationship is cute, respectful, and mutually empowering However, I also felt the ending was super abrupt and left several lose/unsatisfactory ends. Especially:
That ending was rather abrupt! Definitely would have liked more of a tie up at the end, but all in all a damn good book and I will be looking for more from this author.
I really liked the chemistry between Artemis and Sunshine, that pet name 🤭 I love it! The banter between these two had me grinning, giggling, and kicking my feet.
I love a he doesn’t realize he’s lonely until she comes along trope, also the he doesn’t understand how she could love a monster like him!! 🫠🥰😍
With a name like Artemis, I think I expected more from the FMC. I was hoping there'd be a twist at the end where she ends up being a reincarnation of the Goddess after she ends up sleeping with Sunshine.
The tense kept on switching in some scenes as well as grammar errors in others which kept on pulling me from the story.
I loved that Sunshine was the reluctant hero and I loved their banter.
This has the same issues as the previous book I read by this author, the strangely disjointed way of story telling that feels like it's just not quite finished yet.
The monster sounds interesting, the only thing thing I could really picture was the wendigo from supernatural.
This was a fast and spicy read. I liked how it drops you into the story, it pieces together as you go. It definitely gave me some Beauty and the Beast vibes, but make it a monster romance and spicy. The storyline was satisfying and then it was done, which is exactly what I was looking for in this novella.
I wish the male part wasn't animalistic. I didn't care for that one bit.
I liked the story line though, I wish there was a little more to the book. I feel like there were several options to lead the book into so much more, but none of them happened. Overall it was a decent book. Very quick read.
This was a short story but it was great. I loved how she saw him past his exterior and looked beneath the surface. She fell in love with a monster who saved her! This is like beauty and the beast, except she can leave, and he stays his true monster being. I loved it!
I usually never leave less than 4 stars. But this book, man was it rough. It was like it wasn’t even edited. Or proofread in the slightest. Words where they didn’t belong, weird grammar and errors that are all easily fixed. The story was okay I guess but there was no explanation for anything. No back story on the characters or the world.
This book was so poorly written that it reads like trash AI. There’s no way this book was edited by a professional. There are so many errors and plot holes that it is extremely difficult to read. I only finished it so I could note some of the more ridiculous and egregious errors. ** There’s no way in hell she weighs 50 pounds soaking wet. Give me a freaking break.
I enjoyed the story line and can see where it had potential but, honestly, it was a bit of a struggle to finish. The lack of editing was extensive and the whole thing felt rushed. It wasn’t terrible, but definitely not my favorite shifter romance.
Not all heroes wear form fitting suits and sport a cape. Real heroes see an injustice and act - not react - to right the wrong. I definitely recommend this novella. Maybe your hero is in the last place you’d look!
The idea of the story is ok and you can get over all the unnecessary angst, but... what is with the writing? This wasn't just bad editing, this was wrong words in wrong places and sentences that didn't make sense.
Eu comecei o livro assim: "o que?😯" E terminei assim "o quee?🤩". Enfim, me surpreendeu positivamente, é um monster romance bem desenvolvido, perfeito pra passar o tempo. Os hots são bons e eu não consegui largar enquanto não terminei de ler
This was quite literally the worst thing I’ve read. The plot was weird, nothing really was explained and it left me confused for the entire thing and the writing wasn’t very good.
i liked the lore and the relationship building! quite a few typos and a little hard to read sometimes but that’s to be expected w a short novella i think. i enjoyed it overall ☺️
It was fine. Felt kind of like the poorly edited cousin of the Duskwalker bride series. This book had potential. The characters had a good dynamic it just desperately needs worked on. Misspelled words, grammatical errors, holes in the plot, and the abrupt ending (which gave absolutely no closure on a bunch things within the book) tanked this read for me.
I loved this story but It needed more. I needed more. There’s potential for a bigger story. More plot, more character development, more world building. I loved Ezekiel/Sunshine. I love monster romance, specially when the monster is a sweet gentleman. And I love monsters that look like Elias from the ancient magus bride anime. I wish this book was 600 pages .
This was such a good novella. I loved the story and the creativity in it. Especially the monster. It was super good. I finished it in a short couple of hours. Great quick read
