The Moretti Family #1

Sasha and the Butcher

Rate this book
Sometimes you fall in love with a killer.

Sasha Mitchell had life figured out. A vivacious thirty-year-old, she owned her own business, shook her more than generous curves with a burlesque troupe, and kept her bed warm with a series of casual partners, not too worried about finding forever.

That is until her one night with Luca Moretti.

That one night was all it took for Luca to know Sasha was someone special. He falls fast and hard and would do anything to keep her—including lie about who he really is and how much danger she faces being by his side.

When Sasha discovers the truth, will she be strong enough to survive the Moretti Family?

Sasha and the Butcher is the first full-length novel in a trilogy in The Moretti Family Series and features a plus-size bisexual heroine and a cinnamon roll mob boss that has no problem ending any threats to the woman he loves. This book contains mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Please check the author's website for CW and TW.

After becoming something of a romance fiend, Stephanie Kazowz decided to try her hand at writing some good old-fashioned love stories. Never one to narrow her focus, she plans to write the banging multiverse, weaving as many tropes and subgenres together as her smut-loving heart can handle—and it can handle a lot.

Stephanie lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband, three bonkers babies, two codependent dogs, and two cats who are perpetually staring at her like she betrayed them by bringing the motley group home.

Apparently this is a new author, though I have to say you wouldn't know it.
The story is well written, though the Hero hiding he's mafia is not particularly original but I enjoyed it on the whole.
There is a warning of violence.

The heroine is very into her ONS with no strings, so that's a bit different to it always being the Hero giving the brush off.
The Hero is pretty much all in from the start.
She also speaks of an ex girlfriend. There is another woman interested in the heroine and they have some chemistry but the heroine shuts it down.
There is other woman drama for the Hero, nothing happens but it's an ex of sorts.

It becomes a bit on/off push/pull.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine though other woman flirts with heroine and both are on dates with other people during separation.
No details if he was physical with anyone else but she isn't during separation.

HFN.
Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
Possibly see this couple living their HEA in other people's books.

4.5⭐

CW violence, gun violence, body shaming, biphobia, woman in peril, loss of a loved one

Luca Moretti, congratulations, you have reached top tier book bf status 👀

So here we have a sweet mafia romance with hidden identity vibes, a super sweet cinnamon roll hero (who's actually a mafia boss), a prickly but loveable heroine, and a great host of side characters.

I'd like to take a moment to praise the fact that we had actual hero tears in here!!! Can we normalize men crying in our book please? What a precious soft angel Luca was (except the whole murderous hidden identity thing), and just so unbelievably in love 😭 we love an head over heels hero.

The chemistry between the characters was great, the friendships were great, the OW drama was at a minimum, we had a diverse side cast, a queer plus size badass heroine, and a super cute kid 😭

I couldn't have asked for more. The only reason this didn't get the full 5 was the volume of push and pull between the hero and heroine. It was very on and off again for a while there. Which was fine, because I was invested in the two getting together, it just might put some readers off. Just keep going, it's worth it!!!!!

Huge thanks to Stephanie for the ARC, and I can't wait to see what happens next 😍

I received and E-Arc of Sasha and the Butcher - my first journey into mafia romance.

Man, was it spicy! The back and forth makes for the perfect chase, igniting sparks and creating such a deep and meaningful connection between the reader and characters. It was so easy to find myself loving the strong heroine, even with her flaws (which she parades - you go girl!), and the ease in which she finds herself sinking into the Hero's life before the big secret drops. You can really feel Sasha's back and forth between what she should do and what we all know we want her to do - the distance she tries to create several times nearly breaks your heart as you read. Finding out who Luca truly is threatens to break them, but we all know what doesn't break us makes us stronger. Spicy scenes are sprinkled throughout keeping it all the more interesting and really placing the reader amongst two partners and their beautiful, blossoming love.

I cannot wait for the books to follow - this is such an awesome first book for Stephanie Kazowz.

DNF almost from the start. Big time jumps, no deep emotions and no explanations. Just not a great experience at all. 🫤

I’ll start by saying, once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The main character, Sasha, is written in such a powerful way— headstrong, confident, and it was refreshing to read about a woman who didn’t play the ‘damsel in distress’ role. Beside her is Luca Moretti, an absolute sweetheart with a ruthless side that he struggles to keep from Sasha. The chase begins from the opening chapter after their first meeting, Luca attempting to change Sasha’s views on love and relationships, while she remained hesitant to see what he saw.

This mafia romance has it all— comedy, drama, great friendships, diversity, and realism. You can almost feel yourself in Sasha’s place, struggling to make the decision between morality and love.

All in all, it was an exciting read and deserves every star that I gave. I can’t wait for book two!

Buckle up this one will have you hold the sides of the seat a wild ride, suspense, dangerous man, alpha personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a delicious story. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Bad boy….check
Bod boy’s crazy brother/friend…check
Bad boy’s Kryptonie…check ….check and check
By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
Two people from two walks of life one never knowing the darkness and the other born of the darkness catches your attention from the start . Sasha is a handful (in a very good way), feisty, strong and really has made a life for herself being an Interior designer, and a Burlesque dancer, she didn’t go looking for love but yet it found her and grabbed hold quick oh and it isn’t letting go. Luca sexy as all get out Property developer and heir to the mafia thrown who does things for the family, really terrible things but it is the way he was raised he isn’t making an excuse just is what it is, and he happily carries his last name so meeting a very interesting lady who draws him in and keeps him there well that wasn’t on the agenda. The attraction was so intense they gave in to one night is all it was supposed to be but neither of them could walk away they were on each other’s minds constantly but underneath it all is hurt from past relationships, promises to never allow anyone to get close and only one night’s stands is all she is willing to get until Luca. Luca on the other hand usually gets who /what he wants, never really hearing NO and he doesn’t mind putting in the work to get his girl and won’t stop at nothing less but is it enough, will she understand loving again is worth taking a chance, can he convince her that he will protect her at all cost, and will it all lead them to one path of happiness?

Sasah Mitchell embraces all the traits many love in their Alpha heroes. She's her own boss, she's successful, she embraces her sexuality, and she knows she's hot shit. But hot dang does she love hard when you deserve it. ALSO: major pluses in my book, she is bi, plus sized, and is part of a burlesque group. 🥰

Luca Moretti is a trained chef, turned CEO to the family property management company. He is the ultimate cinnamon roll except for his one big giant secret: he's the head of his family run mob. He had zero qualms being in touch with his emotions but will also be a stone cold killer when necessary.

Omg you guys. This book has amazing but still tugs on your emotions and heart strings. There are so many twists and turns throughout this and I cannot wait to see what the next 2 books bring. This has a happy ending at the end of the book but it is book 1 of a trilogy about the same couple.

If you're a fan of mafia romances and cinnamon rolls, this has the potential to become one of your shelf staples. The universe Stephanie has started with this novel will keep me coming back for future books. I'm excited to see how these characters and the Moretti Family universe develop.

“Sasha and The Butcher '' by Stephanie Kazowz is a face-paced mafia romance of spice, danger, and love, sure to leave your mind in twists and heart aching.

Interior designer by day.
Burlesque dancer by night.

Property developer by day.
Heir to the mafia by night.

A one-night stand leading to one undeniable attraction.

“Sasha and the Butcher” is a story of lies and deception, lust and love, danger and passion following the fiery red-headed heroine Sasha Mitchell and the intensely passionate hero Luca Moretti. Since her ex, Sasha has pretty much sworn off of anything more than a quick one-and-done lay until she meets Luca, and at the first sign of commitment in the form of a simple lunch, she can’t get away fast enough. Luca is restless as he sets his eyes on her, and little did he know they would cross paths once more in a place none other than the club his friend owns. He is unlike anyone she's ever met, and there is no other girl worth chasing for him.

There are very few mafia romance books and writers I enjoy. To say I was surprised by my enjoyment of this book would be an incredible understatement. I loved everything about this book. From natural feeling representation and spice leaving you feeling everything from butterflies to heartache to a love story with perfect character dynamics, this book had me hooked from the first line. Sasha and Luca's personalities are indescribable, and the love they have for each other had me speechless. I would highly recommend this to anyone unsure about mafia romance or looking for a book that leaves you with a whirlwind feeling.

"Sasha and The Butcher" is the first book in The Moretti Family Trilogy, and I am so excited for what Stephanie Kazowz has in store for the upcoming books. I am, without a doubt, ready to have my hands on the continuation of Luca and Sasha's story.

BE AWARE of content/trigger warnings as the book includes themes such as coarse language, heavy alcohol use, drug use, fat-phobia from a parent, slut shaming, biphobia, explicit sex, graphic violence, and graphic deaths.

This was a fantastic story. By the end of it, I was turning pages, just wanting to see how everything would turn out, not wanting to put it down at all. The beginning was a rough start. Sasha is a very confident woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid of being up front about it. Her last relationship was a toxic one, so she is only interested in casual, no strings relationships. Luca, her one night stand from a wedding, knows what he wants and that's Sasha. This threw a bit of the standard stereotypes in romance on their head. I don't mind my heroines like that, but I'd rather those things be discovered throughout the course of the story but in the beginning it felt slightly forced. However, as you move through the story, those traits feel less forced as she became more of a rounded character and she see some of her vulnerabilities come out. I became incredibly invested in her and seeing what would happen next, and by the end I couldn't put this book down!

I will also note I was delighted to find that even though it is a trilogy, and there are unresolved things occurring within book, this did not at all feel like a cliffhanger. I'm hoping the second book isn't far off - can't wait to read it!

ARC review:

Stephanie is a new author but you couldn't tell by her writing. The story was easy to follow yet full of surprises. There was romance and humor mixed with some violence (no more than you might expect from a Mafia romance). I enjoyed most how the heroine of the story wasn't a cliche Mafia princess but instead a tough outspoken women with a mind of her own. I liked that she felt real to me and not like some untouchable fragile little girl. I am very proud to have been chosen to read this ARC and would recommend it to all readers. The author does give trigger warnings.

This book was absolutely amazing, I couldn't put it down. I read it all in one night! 😍

The FMC, Sasha, is an absolute badass. She is confident, headstrong, and an absolute queen. 👑 It is refreshing to see a FMC not be the "damsel in distress" type. Luca, the main love interest, is an absolute sweetheart and cinnamon roll.

This book has everything; drama, suspense, heart felt moments, and above all spice. 🌶 Oooh the spice in this book is, *chefs kiss*, perfection. 🔥🥵 Luca is an absolute dreamboat of a love interest.

I am so excited to see where this series goes, and what the author puts out next.

A great start to this series! There were twists throughout that kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to put the book down. I enjoyed that Sasha was the one, initially, that had more issues and was the one that had the bigger sex drive. I had figured out that Luca was doing something shady but didn't quite think it was quite like what is was. I also really shocked by the events of Mr Morretti. I definitely can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

This was a really engaging read, especially after the halfway point! I enjoyed reading the prequel novella prior to this one, and I enjoyed getting some background with some of the cross over characters. There isn't a lot of world building, but when the smut is this good I don't mind ONE BIT. The gravity the love interests have was immaculate. I'm curious where the story will go, and hopefully we'll get more mafia dealings in the next book!

This book was amazingly written! The characters were pretty complex and interesting to study. As an asexual person, a lot of the characters' thoughts on relationship needs were not relatable, understandably, but I enjoyed the book greatly otherwise! I appreciate that the main characters were generally respectful of each other's boundaries and worked out their problems, even the big ones eventually.

Sasha and the Butcher is a mafia romance with great representation. It follows the story of - Sasha , our plus sized, bisexual MC who is a total bad ass and Lucas - Mafia leader and a total sweetheart.

From the beginning we get to see that Lucas, who is totally mesmerized by Sasha is hiding the fact that he is a Mafia leader. But truth can't be hidden for long and we get to see how Sasha accepts the fact that the guy who wants her just the way she is, is not just some ordinary man.

I love reading books where the hero is a total sweetheart and who is not afraid to show his emotions. But since the hero is supposed to be a Mafia leader , it took a while for me in the beginning to get used to Lucas being a sweet pie and not broody.
Another thing which I'd like to add which many readers might feel a little off about is the frequent push and pull between the MCs.

This is the first book of the Moretti Family series and I am curious to see how Lucas and Sasha's story is going to be continued.

Kudos to @stephaniekazowz for the amazing representation in her book (being a plus-sized girl myself,I feel so seen!) and also a huge congratulations on her first book with such a gorgeous cover!

The plot was really good but I lost interest somewhere. I felt like the writing was a bit choppy. The scenes didn't transform easily and it irked me because I love reading the scenes when they're connected in a better way.

There's also no clear context onto Sasha's back story.

I love how the roles became reveresed though. Usually the MMC is the one who wants one night stands and the FMC who wants more or can't do them because she catches feelings. It was nice to see the MMC acting differently.
