His one weakness. One that makes hating him impossible.

He has a daughter.

And he’ll do anything to keep her safe.

Jericho

The Bishops stole what money cannot replace.

A life for a life. Now I’ll take one of theirs.

"Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Drop dead, Jericho St. James. Just drop dead.”

where was this attitude the whole book m? i wanted more of this!!😤

I think NK writes the same stories with same characters. Her H are usually the alpha/possessive/asshole types that for some stupid reason hate the h family even tho that's not her fault and usually that ends in kidnapping or arranged marriage. Her h are either very weak/doormaty or very annoying/sassy. They are also very young. Like 18,20 max.

I think this falls in the first category.
Jericho had a personal vendetta against Isabelle's family so he calls on some ancient law in their secret society group and takes Isabelle to be her guardian? Idk if i got that part right, the society stuff were very confusing😂 he hates her bc of something her brother did that's none of her fault. He also is very attracted to her, makes her do stupid things like strip of her clothes just to humiliate her while she gets wet, he gets hard you know typical mafia stuff. the body betrayal syndrome was real here🙄

“I hate you,” I manage even as I suck in a breath when he kneads my clit.
“But you want me to make you come all the same.”
I should be repelled by his touch. But like the last time I find myself gasping for air. Find my hands not pressing him away but clinging to him, wrapping around his shoulders."

Then he feels annoyed bc he wants to fuck her, she acts like a pushover, doesn't do anything yada yada. I was bored for the most part bc it reminded me so much of one of her other duets that i couldn't help but comparing them both the whole time.

And the highlight for me and my personal fav in romance books : when he switched her birth control pills without her permission so she'll get pregnant😍😍😍

“I think she’s pregnant.”
He doesn’t say anything, just watches me.
“I’ll know for sure in a few days.”
“Is she aware?”
I shake my head. “As far as she knows she’s been taking her daily birth control.”
“But she hasn’t.”
“I swapped the pills out.”

even the cute little girl couldn't save this trainwreck.

Some things aren’t choices at all. Some are destiny. And my destiny is to ruin hers.

Ever since I binge read The Society Trilogy, I've been chomping at the bit to get more in this world. So the second I saw Natasha Knight announce this book, I couldn't get to it quick enough. This is my trope candy, folks. Pure book crack. A secret society, a revenge years in the making, and the innocent young girl who's stuck in the middle and used as a pawn with a marriage of...inconvenience.
“Freedom is just a few feet away.” He smiles wide and steps aside. “You’re considering it. I would too.” He extends his arm, gesturing to the door. “You can try, I suppose. You won’t get far, but you can try.”

I love Knight's brand of anti-heroes. They're broody, tortured, and deliciously cruel. And Jericho? He was all of those things and more. This is a man with demons, and he's not above using an innocent girl as a pawn in his plot for revenge. The innocent girl? The half sister of the man who cost him everything. He'll make him pay, and the first step in his revenge is to take her, force her to marry him, and make her pay for her family's sins. GAH. The delicious pain and and angst of it all.

I love a good age gap, and this one checked all the boxes for me. Isabelle may be sweet and innocent, but she's no pushover. She's a fighter, even when her situation is impossible. She has no idea of the dark and convoluted family history between the St James and the Bishop's. She's not a true Bishop. Not really. She's the half sister, the dirty secret, and there's no love lost between her and her brother. Jericho's cruel treatment of her just cranks it up a notch. I'm so obsessed with the IVI world, and this hit the spot so hard for me.

Devil's Pawn was a page turner full of family secrets, bad blood, archaic society traditions, and revenge. Sweet sweet revenge. Jericho is an anti hero I loved to hate, and hate him I did. You want to jock punch him for some of the things he does. And that cliffhanger? DEAR GOD. I can't wait for the grovel that has to come to follow that because GAH. This woman's words are pure book crack. I couldn't read this book fast enough and will slowly die a slow death in my wait for book two.

If you had read so many of Natasha Knight’s books (like me) then you know her stories have the same theme, the same storyline (mostly) but every time I read one of her books it’s like it’s the first time I’m reading her books. The way she creates her characters… every time it is felt like it's my first experience with her. She’s so talented. The way she creates an alpha who you can’t resist punching and then hugging.

Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the first installment in The Devil’s Pawn duet and ends with a cliffhanger. It’s a bit dark (not that much though) and angsty. It’s well-written and slow-burn. Jericho is an alphahole who is cruel, cold, and unforgiving. He had to be like that to take his revenge, to ruin the one who ruined his life five years ago and sent him into hiding, and due to that, he needs to take Isabelle. She is a pawn in his devil game. She is young and innocent (only 19 years old) but she is not afraid of him and she’s going against him. Their relationship is toxic and dangerous and still addicting. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is because it’s not as dark as I expected it to be. All in all, loved it and hope you enjoy it as well!

Plot Summary :
Jericho Has only one thing on his mind. Revenge. Killing the people responsible for his ruin so that his little daughter can live her life freely and peacefully. The biggest target in his eyes is the Bishops. They ruined him years ago. Took something from him. Almost killed his daughter. And now he is back from his self imposed exile to take from them. Starting with the pretty Isabelle Bishop. He will take her. Ruin her. And make her brother watch as he destroys the very legacy of the bishops. There is no happy ending when it comes to him and her. Only annihilation.

My devil.”

Isabella does not know the scary man who came to take her from her home. He is twice her size with two coloured eyes and he might be the most prettiest and dangerous thing she has ever seen. That does not stop her shivering when she sees the raw hate he has for her. Jericho is what they call him. Her new jailer. The one who says he will break her. Because for him all bishops are the same. Untrustworthy.

Overall Opinion :
Omg Natasha. That cliffhanger, LIKE WHY? 🥲🥲🥲 I need the next book now!!!

I have been reading Natasha for a while now and I always love her books but there was one thing special about this one because it was based on my favorite concept by her,The Society! Jericho was a part of the society so we got to see Santiago and Ivy who starred in her Society trilogy, another top read of mine.

Jericho and Isabella have a unique tale off suffering and pain. They are both suffering but are stuck in a loop. Jericho says he has moved on from his past but that is wrong. All he wants is to avenge the ones who took from him. And he will start with Isabella. No matter how much he loves her tears, her pain and her begging. He will destroy her.

I just need the second so bad because omg, that ending was something else! I just loved it so freaking much. The whole story with Jericho and his scenes with his little daughter just made me swoon so much. Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people. This book has a few triggers like dub con and more so please keep those in mind before picking this one up.

So... my thoughts immediately after  i finished Devil’s Pawn:

1. Jericho, you charming devil, i hate you and I love you
2. Man, you'll need to beg and crawl for forgiveness 😤🙈
3. Isabelle, honey you are too damn naivë!!

And once again here I am wanting more, needing more about Natasha Knight' stories!!
She has a magical talent because, lets be honest, in her books some paths tend to repeat.... sibling rivalry, families at war, young girls used as pawn to get revenge.... yet she is always able to keep me glue to the pages of her books, to make every story unique and special and emotional.

I've been looking forward to reading Jericho' story since Dante.
His need for vengeance rests on valid reasons, but they cloud his judgment. And yeah you gonna see him taking some really stupid decisions 🤦‍♀️
You gonna see an "unforgiving devil"; however he gonna show you from time to time the "gentler beast".
And that's why I hate him as much as love him 🤷‍♀️

And I think Isabelle feels the same toward him. She is a 19 yo too sweet for the world she finds herself involved in after tragedies hit her. She is not made for the games the men in her life are playing.
But she has something that speaks to Jericho' broken soul....
and maybe that gonna save her, or better it gonna save both and lead they to a beautiful HEA 🤞

Obviously the book ends with a cliffhanger, one I can stand for once 😅 but I really can’t wait for the second part of their story  😍

Ps. Thank you so damn much Natasha for giving De la Rosa family a little part in this story 😍😍😍
Santiago and Ivy hold a special place in my heart and seeing them again made me so happy!!

AHHHH!! I knew Natasha Knight was going to kill me with Jericho St. James' story but I couldn't imagine the knockout punch she would deliver!!! Devil's Pawn is magnificent!!!! I loved every powerful and provocative word!!! This story was emotional, angsty, sexy and quite honestly is the dark forced marriage story of your dreams!!!!!

I loved Isabelle and Jericho so much! There is a visceral reaction to seeing Jericho's pain but seeing his relationship with his daughter and his developing feelings for Isabelle despite his inner turmoil had me spellbound!

Overall this story is so intense and one of Knight's best books to date! That cliffhanger was seriously epic! I can't wait for more! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Devilishly good!

Jericho St. James, the sexy, devil incarnate seeks retribution on the Bishop family from which Isabelle is served up as pawn. Jericho institutes IVI secret society privilege called Rite and makes the spunky Isabelle his own to atone for past Bishop family wrongs. A traumatic past and turbulent present, oh the machinations and secrets, who is friend or foe?

Despite feudal differences, Jericho and Isabelle share a burning chemistry, an attraction so strong that Jericho's jealous-possessiveness comes out to play and colors the dynamics of any bachelor in his field of vision. This story had a wonderfully gothic vibe, almost nostalgic of the early great romances and bodice rippers, with a hint of lyrical voice.

Great character development, and aside from the main characters, Jericho's young daughter, his brother, his mother; Isabelle's half-brother and cousin: the side characters were pivotal to drama and twists (and betrayal?). Also featured were Santiago de La Rosa and Ivy from my favorite and the first in this world, The Society series. The story is told is both protagonists' points of view.

A slowish burn yet progressive pace with lots of angst kept me wondering what would happened next. Jericho has a plan, and he intends to carry it out in spite of his unacknowledged feelings. Desire is strong between the main characters; spice level is medium with most of the heat toward the end. By the 65% mark, lots of action, and it’s heart pounding. Not a dark read by my measure, certainly lighter than the first series in which it shared a lot of similarities, so many similarities in fact as to be not especially inventive. Still, I liked the theme and enjoyed the story — Oh and that twist — I'm looking forward to book 2.

The Devil’s Pawn is one of the stories i really needed, badly.
It’s a story in the world of The Society, and i love that world!
With strong men that will do anything for the ones they love….even if it means corrupting innocent girls….
In this case it’s Isabelle that’s going to pay for her halfbrother’s sins.
And Jericho is the one that planned the how and when.
Because not only do their families have a history of bad blood between them,Carlton is responsible for the death of the mother of his child…

Isabelle only found out three years ago her father wasn’t her real father.
After her only remaining family, her brother Christian was killed ,Carlton took her in and told her she was a Bishop.
It did her little good, because he was planning to marry her off when she reached the tender age of 19…
Only things didn’t work out the way he’d planned when his arch-enemy Jericho initiated The Rite.
Leaving her as a pawn in enemy hands….

Jericho lived and breathed revenge for the past 5 years.
After that bastard Bishop had his fiancée killed and him nearly,he was determined to make him suffer.
And what better way than to take the little half-sister that showed up in his life only three years ago?
It would be poetic justice to have her suffer the consequences, just as another Bishop girl had before her….

Now that he has her where he wants her,Jericho makes sure she’s not going anywhere.
Isabelle will be forced to marry him,and once she bares his mark,he can continue with the rest of his plans.
But his little Angelique takes a liking to her,and that might become a problem later….
Not to mention the fact that Isabelle somehow seemed to be imprinted in his mind, and that simply won’t do!

Even though Jericho has done his best to show her she’s nothing more than a pawn in his game of revenge, knowing the reason why he’s doing it makes Isabelle look different at him.
He may act harsh and cold at times, but there’s another side he shows her.
One she doesn’t think he’s even aware he does….and it confuses her.
She knows she’s attracted to him physically,but that’s it….right?

The cliffhanger is one i’ve learned to expect from Natasha,so i made sure i had both parts before starting this duet.
And i’m glad i did because now i can find out the rest of this heartbreaking story in The Devil’s Redemption!

It really pains me to say this - I didn't enjoy much in this story as I hoped I would.

I love Natasha's work, but this just felt like a generic byproduct of something that she wrote before with characters that didn't do nothing for me...on any level, I simply didn't feel the supposed chemistry (other than the physical description of it, cause it's like there, right in your face and you can't escape it, LOL) but that was not enough for me to develop anything more...

and the whole jo-jo effect between them, H has a major case of anger issues, unresolved grief, pain and a whole lot baggage that it could not be possible to deal with in simply one book, I get that...yet, he was just as shallowly portrayed as the heroine was...and that is a whole different set of issues - it bothered me that she was so cliche-ed (innocent, naive, too young with a big heart, forgiving, meek most of the time too...and so on) - simply put, not my favorite kind of heroine, at all...I couldn't get her mindset, she was annoying and I didn't have patience with her character...

*sigh*
the plot was basic, familiar and proven, like in many others with this topic....

***4,5 "Beauty and her devil!!!" stars***

OUT NOW!!!!

"Some things aren't choices at all.
Some are destiny.
And my destiny is to ruin hers."

I just need more of the destruction that Jericho and Isabelle are!!!!
Natasha Knight delivered another one delicious dark and complicated story which was set on my favorite world of The Society!!!! And I was happy that for once again I was lost in this sketchy world that is making my blood bump wildly!!!
Jericho and Isabelle were completely new characters to us and I was intigued by their story and their background!!!
As a bonus, we saw Santiago, Ivy and Judge for once again!!! What more to ask???

"The dead will be avenged."

Jericho St. James is back when he has lived the last five years of his life hiding and biding his time for revenge... Now, he is back and he is living and breathing for the day he will ruin all the Bishops!!! And he will start by sweet and beautiful Isabelle Bishop...
His plans for her is not quite clear in the beginning, but his only goal is to take her from her brother and ruin her irreparable!!!

"You're a Bishop, Isabelle. And you are a pawn. Mine."

Isabelle doesn't really belong to The Society world!!!! Her life changed three years ago when she had found out that was running Bishop's blood into her veins...
Now, she is being a part of a world that she doesn't really want and she has to pay for her family's sins!!!
She is being forced to become a pawn in the hands of Jericho St. James, but she won't let him ruin her, even though he is making her heart sing in a strange tune whenever he is too close to her...

"What I should feel is repulsion at his touch...
This is insanity. He is my enemy. He is a devil, a monster. A cruel jailor."

I love this story very much!!!! I love the Society world!!!
Jericho and Isabelle were so damaged for different reasons... Jericho was stuck to the past in a way and he couldn't appreciate what life brought his way...
His was a loving father, even though his whole being was consumed by the conception of revenge and he was kind of blind because of that!!!
Isabelle was sweet and caring... She was an innocent creature who got stuck in a rival that didn't really concern her...
Jericho was bound to hurt her, but he couldn't stay unmoved by her... even when he was fighting it with everything he had...

"Enemies. Lovers.
No. Not lovers.
Never lovers. It is a betrayal to my own name to ever think of her as lover."

I loved this story very much and after that cliffy, I am waiting like crazy the next part...
I need to take some answers cause I am sensing too many betrayals are running around this couple...
There are too many out there that are wishing their destruction...
I am just wishing that Jericho and Isabelle will realize that if they will stick together, they can become something powerful!!!
Honestly, I can not wait to see how this story will be played out after all!!! The agony is killing me!!!

"I plan to break you slowly, Isabelle Bishop."

Nah. Neither of these MC's are likeable. Jericho is a manbaby picking on a 19 y/o girl because he can't cycle his grief in a mature manner. He not only treats her terribly, he forcibly tattoos her whole back (he's apparently able to do this because - you know, it's easy to tattoo and who needs actual training?) without her consent. His treatment of her and her acceptance of it all is just too hard to believe.

Isabelle is spineless 19 y/o ingénue with absolutely no life skills or self preservation let alone self esteem. This book has the worst and most ludicrous cases of "my body betrays me" I've read in a long time. The virgin is turned on by absolutely anything Jericho does to her within seconds. Even when Jericho puts her pillory to punish her with anal sex she loves it within seconds. Everything he does to her to humiliate her is OK with her because she rationalizes that he is handsome and can't be that bad because he loves his daughter. How nobody seems to connect that everything he had to do to her in the "initiation" BS is going to happen to his daughter, too. How can any father be OK with that?

So, Jericho's big plan is to impregnate Isabelle and steal her baby and kill her. Apparently, his mom and brother are okay with it because they aren't stopping it and they are totally complicit in his plans even they also know he's an immature manbaby. And who cares if his first kid loves Isabelle? He'll just adjust her thinking later (really, this is what he's thinking). We get to the cliffy right as she finds out that he has tricked her into pregnancy. I didn't like this book enough to pay 5.99 to find out how this ends because honestly, I'll never believe he actually loves Isabelle as much as a hero should. This isn't like some of the earlier books that had the same theme. At least in those books, I liked the MC's.

I don't like Jericho or Isabelle. I wanted to shake Isabelle and deck Jericho way too many times in this book to go to the next.

What a captivating welcome back to the intoxicatingly dark and depraved Society world! The Devil's Pawn is deliciously addictive, riveting from start to finish. This book is everything that makes Natasha Knight the queen of dark romantic suspense- the vendettas, the secrets, elite machinations, the gripping suspense and jaw dropping twists, and so much sultry eroticism. All catalyzed by the turbulent romance between two richly captivating characters. Yet another intricately told and deliciously bingeable treat from the dark queen- I am DESPERATE for book 2!

The Society world is just so breathtakingly dark and depraved, so I was elated to be back in this world with a new broody, tortured hero bent on revenge. There is truly no one who writes the elite world-vendetta and age gap arranged marriage trope like Natasha Knight- she so vividly and unapologetically captures all that makes her characters and the world they live in twisted. She mires us in the darkness, creates a relationship chemistry that is toxic and addicting, and then she starts to subtly introduce elements of light and authentic connection, moments that cast new substance on her individual characters, moments that helps us find redemption and healing for our hero and power and freedom for our heroines…all paired with jaw-dropping and action packed romantic suspense that keeps the pages turning. Her books are my literal catnip- I can’t get enough.

Devil’s Pawn gives us the super anti-hero Jericho- and at first he even makes Santiago look like a kitten. Natasha really brought the anger and darkness to this new leading man. He’s tortured, ruthless, and unapologetically cruel, especially to our poor heroine, who finds herself in his clutches thanks to the ancient society rites and a little blackmail. Isabelle is just a pawn in the machinations of elite wealthy men, a seeming casualty in Jericho’s quest for vengeance. Isabella has the makings of a classic Jericho heroine- she’s innocent, sweet, and naive to the ways of the society. She’s also incredibly charismatic and super relatable as a heroine- an “every day” girl who finds herself thrust into a situation that is anything other than normal. She’s palpably lonely and abandoned as a character- which gives her a surprising amount of spine and perseverance. She’s already faced a lot of adversity, so she ends up being a bit more edgy than some Natasha heroines, which makes for a delicious dynamic with the decidedly more dastardly Jericho.

Natasha strikes up some delicious Romeo and Juliet vibes in this one- two neighboring families who have plagued one another for multiple generations. The Bishops and James families have a lot of history, and now the real question is if the current generation will perpetuate the cycle. But of course we have the Natasha Knight spin- she gives us a twisting story full of secrets and veiled motivations. And our couple is so captivating. Jericho doesn’t show much softness of bend in this story, especially as it relates to Belle, so the tension felt more prolonged and immersive- but it just tells me the reward is going to be all the sweeter. He’s horribly cruel to our heroine, who thanks to his family still sees something in him. The chemistry is volatile and complicated, and so very fickle. I was transfixed.

Of course, we have an epic cliffhanger that has me BEGGING for the next in the series. I’m so desperate for these two to get on the same page and to find some peace…but as we know, things in the Society world never go as planned, or are as they seemed, so more drama is coming. And I can’t wait to gobble up every word of it! Another brilliant dark romantic suspense from the dark queen!

Review by Jen Skewes

I must admit that I have been in a book slump lately. I haven't read a book in quite some time, simply because nothing has piqued my interest. But when I saw the Ms. Knight had a new book releasing I jumped at the chance to read it. I was so excited to read it and I am so glad that I did. Once again Ms. Knight completed delivered. I have read many of her books and I love them all. She knows how to write a dark, gritty, and intense story that has you doubting your own insanity. Because you always manage to fall for the monster. You try to find the reasons to justify it as well. And Devil's Pawn was no different.

Jericho is out for revenge against the Bishop family who took something from him. Revenge for Jericho St. James is not to kill the person that took someone from him, no that would be too easy. Instead he will take his sister and make her his. She will be his pawn in his game of revenge. Isabelle will be his in every way, and denying him will only make it worse for her. He hates her simply because of her family name. She hates him for the cruelty she has to endure at his hands, and for taking her away from her life.

Jericho is not the man to fight back against, to say no to. But Isabelle is not one to back down even if it results in punishment. She knows she should hate Jericho and a part of her does. But there are so many sides to this man that she's not sure how she feels about him. The one thing that makes her soft when it comes to Jericho St. James is seeing him with is daughter. His daughter is the one person that he will protect at all costs. Isabelle, herself has taken a liking to his daughter, coming somewhat of a bond. She would never let anything happen to that little girl either. But despite her love for his daughter and softer moments she has with Jericho she knows that his intentions are still not good. will she continue to fight im every set of the way or will she find herself slowly giving in and falling for this monster?

I love the darkness that Ms. Knight creates wishing her characters and the story itself. It is dark and makes you question your morals over and over again, but it is never to the point where it is uncomfortable to read. I loved Jericho, even in his darkest moments, because you could just feel that deep down he does have a conscious and a heart. He us just letting the past overtake the two of them. To him, Isabell has always been nothing more than a pawn, but you see how hard he tries to convince himself of that at times. I loved seeing him with is daughter, the softer side of him. But it wasn't just with his daughter where he became softer. You see the moments with Isabelle as well and that is what makes you love him, despite his very dark flaws.

Isabelle is a fighter and that is what I loved about her. But she is also very caring an when it comes to Jericho's daughter that is exactly what she is. She is falling for that little girl just as much as she is for Jericho. She wants more for her and I love that she has no issues with telling Jericho how she really feels. She knows when to fight and when to back down. I love watching the two of them fight what is right in front of them. And I cannot wait for that moment when they both finally give in and realize exactly what it s between them.

In true Natasha Knight fashion, this one ended with a cliffhanger. I am patiently waiting to see how this goes and how it all ends. Jericho had a secret and at the end Isabelle finds out!! And boy is she pissed. Thankfully I do not have to wait too long to find out what happens.

Delicious, twisty, twisty, drama…

Hate is a very strong word but Jericho was a very strong man with conviction and rage on his side. Isabelle may have started as collateral damage but revenge is rarely so cut and dried. What happened when anger was no longer the only emotion involved…

Well, that’s where things got tricky. When emotions were unexpectedly on the table, what should have been a harsh, feeling-less plan, suddenly was anything but. Oh it was still edgy and jaw-dropping in its intensity. Anger and fear were now also fueled by chemistry and desire. It was highly explosive. Really complicated. And very messy, messy…

Jericho was grasping his original strategy like a life-line as Isabelle’s innocence and naivety poked holes at his resolve. She pushed him to the edge repeatedly and he pushed right back. Whether they won or lost those exchanges wasn’t easy to figure out but I knew someone would most likely lose out in the end. That tension – yeah, it was always there…

This story wasn’t just two characters. Oh no, so many others fit into the puzzle but not everything was revealed. Unanswered questions, half-truths. It all made this story a powder keg just waiting for the next spark. Equal parts heartwarming family, twisty, twisty intrigue and unstoppable heat meant that wild cliffhanger had me catching my breath. And starting the bookshelf stalking right away… I cannot wait! C A N N O T W A I T!! ~Diane, 5 stars

1.5 overall rating: This is a dark story with a H that has no redeeming qualities. Jericho is a man possessed and Isabelle is his victim even though the real perpetrator is her brother. Same ole, same ole.....take your vengeance out on a perfectly innocent woman who had nothing to do with the death of your wife. His daughter is a nice touch in this story, but represents the "hyprocasy" of Jericho's misguided revenge and his dubious nature.

The h is too young, barely 19. I guess younger women make better victims. Why do authors throw girls, not women, into these dark novels? She's spunky but still lacks the maturity of an older heroine.

I had no idea when ordering this book that it was a spin off from the author's earlier releases of the series focused on the "The Society". I would have never ordered it. I love many of this author's books but that series is a "Hard NO" for me. I know that many readers will enjoy this cult-classic theme set in a modern day criminal world. The author is an excellent writer when it comes to the actual writing portion of the book whether you like the theme or not.

I am not a fan that embraces cults, especially home grown cults that involve men who think women are nothing more than vessels for their own sick or twisted needs straddling the fence when it comes to believability. The mental and physical status of women in these books are equivalent to women in "third world countries"; to be used, sold, bartered programed, demeaned and finally broken into nothing more than a programable Stepford Wife. I tried reading Ivy and Dante's story (a character that Isabelle meets later in the book) another sequel in this genre, but did not finish it.

Their is a fine line between entertainment in a novel and one that dives down the rabbit hole of darkness taking it's character's down to the depths that no longer entertain me as a reader. When women are permanently tattooed or branded, mentally and physically tortured due to an organization or the H repeatedly; you lose me. Women are people, not cattle nor are they a wild animal that must be caught and trained and controlled like a caged rabid dog.

Some readers think that these novels are "delicious and dark", which is their opinion. Sex is always the catalyst in these novels as the only connection between the h and the H. Most people realize that sex doesn't equal a love story. There has to be a real story attached to a dark read that goes beyond the darkness of the characters, and focus's on the relationship between the two main characters.

When the heroine starts to have feelings for the man that is systematically destroying her life I have to laugh. Stories done in the 21 century need to have some realism in the story when it comes to uniting the two main characters into a permanent relationship which certainly never guarantees a love match.

The death count in this genre for women is exceptionally high; whether it be by their own hand, or being murdered by their husband's enemies or by the very person that is suppose to love them.

This is a one and done novel.

She can pray all she wants, my Bishop girl. No god will save her from me

Devil Pawn is the first book in the Devil's Pawn Duet, and trust me when i tell you that this one deserved more than five stars.

So, if you've read the previous books by Natasha then you're already familiar with IVI Society and their founding families. As much as i hated their barbaric rules i couldn't help but love them too.

Jericho St. James is a man starved for revenge, and he will do anything to watch his enemies die a painful death. Even if it means using an innocent girl as a pawn, as they say; everything is fair in love and war.

Isabelle Bishop's life turned upside down when she was told that she is a Bishop, one of the founding families in IVI Society. And then the next thing she knows, she was marrying a man who is set on eradicating every last Bishop on earth, including her.

This book was PHENOMENAL!! It checked all the boxes for me:
Age gap, check.
A secret society with barbaric rules, check.
A revenge years in the making, check.
Marriage of inconvenience, check.
A man who's not above using an innocent girl to fulfill his revenge, fudging CHECK!!
This book was literally everything i could ask for and much more, i mean i didn't expect less from Natasha she's my unicorn author for a good reason 😏. Her anti-heroes are to die for and Jericho St. James was the king of anti-heroes. And now, a I'll die a slow death while i wait for the second book.

“Beauty and her devil. She, innocent in that feather dress. Me, cloaked and masked, horns curling to high heaven. A terror to be hold…”

Natasha Knight destroyed me once again with the first book of Devil’s Pawn Duet, I just want to crawl to bed and not get up until the next book, I mean this book has all the emotions; everything you think a mafia romance needs to have in order to be a masterpiece, well this book has it all. You can tell when an author is at the top of their game and just as the rest of her books Natasha never disappoints.

The cherry on top for me in this scenario is that Natasha Knight has decided to make her most recent stories a duet, so you know, we get those freaking amazing cliffhangers while breaking everything in us, but we don’t have to suffer too long, once the finale arrives, she puts back together every single piece and throws something else to the mix, so once again we can feel whole and in need for more!!

Jericho St. James needs revenge for what the Bishop family has done, vengeance is everything for Jericho, no matter what or who gets in the way he will get that revenge, and the best way to destroy the Bishops is to take Isabelle Bishop as a pawn, he will break her until there’s nothing left of her.

Isabelle Bishop has been a pawn since her brother took her in, she has no opinion; so when the Devil himself just takes her and decides her fate, she has no one to turn to, she knows fighting is useless and the reality of everything is just too heartbreaking.

What to expect:
- Mafia romance
- Dub-con
- Troubled anti hero
- Virgin heroine with a backbone
- Age gap
- Sexual tension to the roof
- Scorching hot scenes
- Dual POV
- Trigger Warnings

Revenge plot. Dual POV. Secret society reminiscent to Shantel Tessier’s The Ritual, which is the only other book that I’ve read with this sort of patriarchal secret society/arcane rituals. I wanted more to be revealed in the book. I felt things moved a little slowly, the teasing mystery of what Isabelle’s brother, Carlton, does or doesn’t do… what is Jericho’s revenge… these things are confirmed by Jericho but not by Isabelle. It would have been interesting to have it all out in the open. I felt like Isabelle didn’t have much to do except be a mom. I also don’t like that Isabelle was 19 and Jericho was 10 years older or so. I usually just imagine the heroine is age-appropriate to the hero, in these instances.

Easy to read and enjoyable if you haven’t read this type of story before. This one was just ok for me!

Do you remember Jericho St James, the mysterious man we met in “Stolen- Dante’s Vow”? Well, this is his gripping story. The intriguing man behind the devil mask saves the Bishop girl. You think he is her knight in shining armour, but he has a dark and twisted ulterior motive and Isabelle Bishop has no clue what lies ahead in her predetermined fate. The Ancient Society world is depraved with its customs, rite of passage and rules, and follows them to the T.
Jericho uses this to his advantage and claims Isabelle Bishop as his to mark and torture, while taking revenge against her half-brother.
He is hell-bent on ending her, but his daughter has fallen in love with her. Should he be wary of his own brother, is he aiming for his own revenge or is something more sinister at play where the pretty woman is concerned? Isabelle Bishop knows loss more than you can imagine but she also tries to stand up to the brute of a man who is determined to destroy her. Her innocence gives her away at every turn, and Jericho plays her like a puppet. He is ruthless and cruel but at times he does things that make you question him. Is there a beating heart beneath all that revenge? Training the young woman to be subservient is almost too much fun for him, but he can’t stop the emotions her sounds evoke in him. And just when you think they have formed some sort of routine, a hint of trust, Jericho does the unthinkable to Isabelle. Can this woman survive or will she use this to her advantage? Jericho is all about revenge and Isabelle is the pawn in the middle. But has the pawn just been given the trump card to bring this ruthless villain to his knees? Ms Knight has done it again, she has written a book that is dark, twisted and page-turning. Then she leaves us with a whopping cliffhanger and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Brilliant writing, wonderful characters/villains and a plot that just keeps us intrigued with mystery and suspense.

First book in Natasha Knight's new duet, The Devil's Pawn follows Jericho St James and Isabelle Bishop's story, members of archenemy families.

Out of all the other books set in the IVI Society's world, The Devil's Pawn is my favorite. The atmosphere, as dark and mysterious as always, once again transported me into a maddening and infuriating world. I love to hate this society that challenges my beliefs whe it comes to the place and role of women. In this secret society, the weight of the traditions and laws felt suffocating.

Isabelle and Jericho have an incredible dynamic. The age gap, the difference of status, his power and her naivete were beautifully handled. At turns, they gave me chills, made me scream or fan myself. Jericho's merciless determination was palpable, he is definitely a man you don’t want to cross. He sometimes shows another side of his life though, which I utterly enjoyed, rendering him more human.

Isabelle is young, and not quite familiar with the rules she will be subjected to. However, she proves to be a strong, clever and resilient opponent, choosing her battles when she needed to.

Mrs Knight's new series starts of explosive checking all the cases that I appreciate in her works. If you are in the mood for a thrilling dark romance, forced proximity, dubious consent, age gap, and scorching hot scenes, don't hesitate any longer! Happy reading!

Gahhhhhhh. This is Natasha at her best, dark, griping, angsty. I couldn’t put it down.

After meeting Jericho St. James briefly in Stolen, his back ground story somewhat a mystery, we found out enough to know he is willing to do anything to protect his daughter.

How much he is willing to do Isabelle Bishop is about to find out.

She is the pawn, stuck in the middle of a family feud where she is going to be made to pay no matter what side she stays on.

Lies are being told, but which side is telling them?

Jericho is cold and heartless, he needs to settle a score, revenge is all he requires and he intends to make the Bishop family pay! At Isabelle’s expenses.

However he is getting far more than he bargained. There are secrets waiting to be revealed and ghosts with stories to tell.

Bring on Devil’s Redemption….I need to know.

First off— I hate books where the H’s first plan is to kill the h.This is a recycled secret society feuding families for centuries book. Instead of killing off his real nemesis the H goes after the know nothing innocent 19 yo half sister. His plan is to impregnate her and after she delivers steal her baby and then murder her. Charming— way to Win people over and influence them. For all that ultimate psychotic plan —Jericho really isn’t that dark— we’re told over and over that he is an evil
Devil but he’s just NOT. The innocent virgin Isabelle quickly wins him over. Meh— I’m giving a generous 3 stars because I did keep reading…. But really I’m so done with this trope.
