Wilde Ways #14

Cross My Heart

Rate this book
There are some cases you never forget.

Former FBI agent Elijah Cross tried to put the past behind him. For years, he spent his days and his nights tracking some of the most brutal killers in the US. Now? He protects the rich and famous while working at Wilde. Less danger, more glamour…and a whole lot more cash. His latest gig has taken him to the sandy beaches of Florida’s Gulf Coast, and it’s on one of those gorgeous beaches where he comes face to face with the woman who haunts his dreams.

There are some people you can’t leave behind.

She was the last victim he saved at the Bureau. Penelope Kostas. The woman who survived a nightmare. He’d carried her out of hell in his arms, and Elijah had sworn to always protect her. But that promise had been given before his job at the Bureau had imploded. Before he’d broken every rule that mattered…for her. Only to have Penelope run from him.

There are some promises you must keep.

The serial killer who targeted Penelope was never apprehended, and Penelope fears that he could be hunting her once more. But this time, she will not be his victim. She wants Elijah to help her hunt him. To help her stop the killer before he can strike again. And she will pay any price for Elijah’s help. He’s the only man she trusts…and, once upon a time, Elijah had offered to do anything for her…even kill to keep her safe.

There are some desires that can’t be controlled.

Elijah still wants her just as badly. Penelope still needs him just as much. Lust, obsession—they always twisted together for them, and the longer that they are together, the more that dark and consuming need just grows and grows. Elijah will do whatever it takes to protect Penelope. She’s not the same woman he knew before. Not lost, not afraid. She’s determined to fight, and he will be at her side every step of the way. The killer won’t escape again. And Elijah will not lose the woman who owns his heart.

Author’s Note: Once upon a time, Elijah saved Penelope, and, though she didn’t realize it, she saved him, too. She stopped him from giving into the darkness that wanted to consume him, and now, he is ready for his second chance with her. Danger, desire—sure, they’re part of the deal, but Elijah can handle any threat that comes their way. He will handle the threats because there is no way that he will ever lose Penelope again. Prepare for action, twists, and a love that will not be denied. Things are going to be Wilde, and that is just Elijah’s style…

Elijah and Penelope met when he saves her from a serial killer. What follows is a romance that tries to survive as the chase for the serial killer moves forward. You'll be constantly trying to figure out who the real killer is while watching this couple navigate their relationship with roadblocks trying to keep them apart. Their love for each other is much stronger than any roadblock thrown at them.

I love these protective, possessive heroes in this series. They have a particular set of skills and they are not afraid to use them to keep their woman safe. It's the kind of couples I just love to read about. This is a second chance, romantic suspense full of all kinds of exciting moments!

Holy fireballs! This was intense, thrilling, and EXPLOSIVE!!!

From the very beginning, Penelope and Elijah captured my heart. Penelope with her tragic experience and her struggle to overcome the trauma and Elijah with his determination to be there for her emotionally even as he fought to keep things platonic. Truly, it was the most perfect beginning.

Elijah lived so much of his life in darkness. The results of that darkness tormented him to such an extent that he questioned his place in Penelope’s life. That brought a level of angst to the story that had my heart breaking. This author once more created a hero that shines when it comes to protecting the heroine. But when I read the following quote, I knew that he was definitely one that would not be easily forgotten.

”I’m your weapon, baby. Always. I will do whatever it takes to protect you.”

He might as well have said, “Point me towards your enemies and I will decimate them.” Forget the abs, it’s talk like this that makes me swoon.

As the story unfolded, the twists and turns, suspicions and revelations had me turning the pages as quickly as I could even as I hated to reach the end. This is filled with a level of action and drama and written in such a manner that it was playing out in my mind like a movie. Definitely a book that could easily be made into one. Come to think of it, all of the Wilde books would make an incredible series! We need to make this happen!!!

SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love a good romance/suspense story and while I pretty much knew from the start who the bad guy was, that is the only thing I found I would have changed about this because there was no “suspense” for me to have me hooked to the point that I couldn’t put it down. BUT, this had everything else to make me a happy camper such as likable characters, a believable romance that actually focused equally on romance as it did on the suspense, an Alpha non-Manho male character that for once could be called Hero-worthy and a strong/kick-ass heroine who was no wallflower!

Backstory:

Penelope (heroine) is an event/wedding planner who was kidnapped by a psycho a year prior but we never get any info on the actual details of her kidnapping such as did he rape or abuse her in any way? All that was revealed was that he had stashed her at a house where Hero rescued her and she had been to hell..

Elijah (Hero) was an FBI agent who had a talent of hunting down killers. From the moment he rescued heroine, he knew she was his “it”. They quickly got together afterwards but heroine did something which got him suspended from the FBI. Feeling guilty that her actions caused him to lose his job, she tries to make it right by leaving him so that she can distance him from her and have his Boss take him back. Only Elijah doesn’t want to go back to work for the FBI and he pursues a job with a Security company where he protects famous models and actresses. However, he keeps tabs on heroine and even provides her secret security (unbeknownst to her) to protect her since they never caught her abductor. Secretly though, he is still hunting the guy.

A year later after heroine has had breakings to her home and scary phone calls, she sees him in the news that he is in town and seeks him out to help protect her. From there it is all about making things right between them since neither one of them have stopped loving the other or moved on from each other.

I loved how they communicated and worked together to catch the bad guy(s). I loved how she had his back at all times and he hers. I loved the side characters too and look forward (hopefully) to get Elijah’s partner, Gideon’s story.

SAFETY: 2nd chance. Safe. Both celibate during 1 year separation. No past history with others given on either character. HEA/HFN.

“I never stopped loving you!” The cry broke from her. Then she wanted to pull it back. This was not the time. Not the place.

She swiped at her cheek. Elijah stared at her in shock.

Really, shock? “Did you truly not think I loved you before? I told you it wasn’t about using you. I slept with you because I wanted you. I fell in love with you because when you looked at me, you always saw me. The woman I’d been before the stories on the evening news. The woman that I could be again if the nightmares would just stop. I liked the way you looked at me. I liked the way I could talk to you for hours and hours. I liked the way you could make me smile when I had been so sure that I would never smile again.” Another step back. “No, I didn’t like things. I loved you. I loved you then, and I love you now, and it breaks my heart that you think love is just some word we can toss out to draw him in. Another part of the trap.”

But no, it was worse than that. A thousand times worse. “You think you can use yourself. That you can get hurt. That you can die. And I’m supposed to be happy because I’m safe? No. No. Understand this. Understand me. I would go back through that hell over and over again if it meant you were safe. I get that you’re the one with the training. I get that you’re the one who knows how those bastards think.” And I get that you’re the one who isn’t saying anything while I cut out my heart in front of you. “But I am the one in love with you. You ran out today to save Shamus—you could have been shot right in front of me. Just how do you think I am supposed to feel if you die?”

He was still not speaking. Probably because he didn’t know what the hell to say. Fantastic. Wonderful.
“What do you think I would do if you died?” Penelope demanded. “Do you think I’d just shed a few tears? Say, ‘oh, well, he was a good guy’ and then move on with my life?”

His mouth opened. Nothing came out.

Seriously? “There would be no moving on. I would miss you for the rest of my life—just like I missed you every single day for the last year. You were in my dreams. In my head. Dammit, I even have a pic of us as my freaking home screen on my phone! I didn’t get over you in all these months, and I won’t get over you if you die. It will gut me, so stop it. Stop using yourself as some kind of lure for a killer. Just…stop.”

-------------------
“I didn’t lie to Haley. There was no need to lie. Every word was the truth. I do love you. I would walk through fire for you a million times, and I would break any rule, any law, if it meant you were safe.”

------------

“The man I love is strong and smart and sexy. And he races to my rescue and braves fire and bullets and anything else because he wants to protect me. He wants me safe. He doesn’t want to kill or destroy. He wants to protect victims. That’s how he’s wired. He might think like a killer…”

Might? There was no might involved.

“But he uses that to help people, not to hurt them.”

“Penelope…” He loved her so much. So much it scares me.

“I’d race to your rescue, too. I’d brave fire and bullets and anything else. Because you matter to me.

Because I know who you are deep inside, and I’m not going to give up on you. Or us. Not ever again.”

“And I know you love me,” she added resolutely after pressing another soft kiss to his lips. “You don’t need to be afraid any longer. I’m safe. You’re safe. I know your dark places, and you know mine.”

“No more trying to be a martyr?”

He’d only had one go of it in him. A man could only try to be good so long. If she didn’t want him to be good…if she wanted all of him…

That is what she’ll get, and I will love her until the day I die. “No more,” he promised.

This is a part of the Wilde Ways series but actually works very well as a stand-alone which I know many prefer. Elijah is an ex FBI agent with quite a lot of baggage but when we meet him he’s just chilling out or is he ? Penelope was the last person he saved whilst working for the Bureau and truth be told she’s the one woman that could bring him to his knees but Elijah has no intention of being a fool again. Yet Penelope is still a target, still a pawn in someone’s sick games and Elijah is the only one who completely understands the dangers she’s facing and this protective man is not leaving her no matter what it costs but what if this time it’s Elijahs life on the line ?
This was fun and twisty with actually quite an explosive plot in more ways than one ! This couple are so hot for each other but neither has been completely honest so yes misunderstandings certainly play a big part in their romance. I found this very quick and easy to read and the storyline was full of surprises and action.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Like all my other reviews, nothing will be said about the plot nor will I regurgitate the back cover of the book. These are my feelings about the book, The authors writing style, and a bit about the characters.

This is the story of Elijah and Penelope. We’ve met Elijah before in past Wilde series. And I was happy to see him in this book looking more in control and with a lot more skill than we had seen him in Pretend You Want Me. It was good to see Gideon and Aspen again in this book looking/acting as bad ass as they were in their book. Elijah in this book was a more fleshed out character (and even tougher and more badass) with this story. I loved seeing the interaction between Gideon and Elijah (who are partners at Wilde) and a friendship that makes the reader feel good.

Now on to the story notes: we see character growth from both H and h which is nice to see. Although miscommunication and trying to save the other person started their issues, I must say I do hate that. Yes it easily provides angst and story intrigue, I just want to smack characters when they do that. But having said that, that all occurs before the story starts so I guess I’ll give it a pass. Though one more rant: if you truly are in love with someone, you talk and work things out. You don’t take away someone’s choice to be in the relationship because you were doing what you think is right. It usually never is. Just saying

Like all Cynthia Eden’s books, this one had real to life sounding conversations, hot hot sex, great interactions/chemistry, true friendships and is a story I can lose myself in because it seems real. I also like that the characters aren’t perfect. They have flaws. They have often been through the wringer and came out the other side with fortitude and honor and like ability.

I must say, whereas Elijah didn’t float my boat in Gideon’s story ( Gideon did that) in this book, he was swoon worthy. His love for Penelope never wavered from his point of view, even when he thought they were over. Sigh. His devotion to her especially when she didn’t know it, rocked me on my heels. Also him knowing that he was obsessed while also in love, showed he was self aware.

And one other thing I love about Cynthia’s books is that although this is classified as a romantic suspense, the suspense and action is in the forefront of the story. Yes there is romance, hot sex, but there is also the story. In other words it’s more than just sex. These characters feel like real people who in the course of their life, found love among the chaos idle their lives and like most people wish, they have hot sex that makes your toes curl and body temps rise

I totally recommend this book. The whole series actually. Hope this review helps you make the smart decision to buy this book.

Getting involved with the victim in your case is never a good idea. Elijah Cross knows better. He also doesn’t care.

Elijah no longer works for the FBI, not after his last case. And Wilde is the perfect place for an ex-FBI agent who needs a change. But something from his past is about to pop into his life again. Or should I say, someone…

Penelope Kostas was the victim of a serial killer. He didn’t get to finish his plans with her though, and she survived. Elijah saved her., but it meant letting the killer go free. Someone has been following her, and that person wants her to know he’s able to get into her house any time he wants. She thinks it’s the same man, come to finish the job he started. After Elijah saved her, he was confident that the FBI would catch the killer. But trails went cold and the killer was still loose.

The only person she trusts is Elijah. But she burned that bridge a year ago.

I loved the second chance romance in this book, and I enjoyed watching Penelope realize that even though Elijah had saved her, she had saved him by pulling him from the edge. When dealing with the worst of humanity, the darkest of the dark, it’s really hard to keep putting yourself in the mind of the monsters without losing a bit of yourself to the darkness. When Elijah left the FBI, Penelope and her case may have been the catalyst, but he left of his own volition. That was something she really needed to hear. She had thought he’d been fired due to something she had done. Elijah was stuck with the blame. I liked watching Elijah come into his own, and really felt that he went from being controlled buttoned up FBI agent, to protective do anything for his heroine type hero, and that’s my favorite type. Not that Penelope was a damsel in distress by any means, she definitely held her own, never giving up on her case, or herself. This couple works really well together when they finally start working together as a team.

I love this series, and this book fits right in. I love the cross-over into the Ice Breakers series, and the Trouble For Hire series. It's clever, and I love the connections. I'm jumping right into the next book.

***I bought this book

4.25 stars-CROSS MY HEART is the fourteenth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult WILDE WAYS romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work and operate Wilde Ways security. This is former FBI agent Elijah Cross, and event planner Penelope Kostas. CROSS MY HEART can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Elijah and Penelope CROSS MY HEART follows approximately one year after FBI agent Elijah Cross rescued event planner Penelope Kostas from an unknown serial killer. A forbidden affair, a broken heart, resulted in Penelope walking away, and Elijah handing in his gun and his badge. Fast forward to present day wherein Elijah Cross, now working for Wilde Ways Security on assignment in Florida, finds himself face to face with the woman he loves, a woman who believes the killer has returned to finish the job. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Elijah and Penelope, and the potential fall-out as a killer sets their sights on our story line couple.

Penelope Kostas is the only known survivor of a serial killer but no one believes Penelope when she claims the killer has returned to finish the job. Hiring Elijah Cross as her personal security forces Elijah to take back control of an investigation that was never far from his mind. Having never stopped loving our story line heroine, Elijah battles between head and heart believing he is just as bad as the monsters he is hired to take down.

The relationship between Elijah and Penelope begins when Elijah rescues Penelope from a serial killer. A short lived, forbidden affair finds Penelope walking away to save Elijah’s job but Elijah refuses to buckle under the pressure of the people in charge. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters play an integral role in the build up of the story line premise. We are introduced to Elijah’s former FBI partner Izaak Jones, Detective Melissa Wright, ask well as Wilde Ways agent Gideon Rainer and his partner, attorney Aspen Gray (Pretend You Want Me 13).

CROSS MY HEART is a story of betrayal and vengeance, jealousy, obsession and rivalry, love and acceptance. The premise is intriguing, engaging and suspenseful; the romance is seductive; the characters are strong, charismatic and edgy.

wow loved this one. Elijah and Penelope were intense, sexy, and cray together. I loved seeing them fighting and loving. Lots of fun suspense, though i figured out the bad guy pretty quick, because he was such an asshole!
Also loved the intro to the new series and can't wait to sink my teeth into that

Pretty much the same as previous books. Still very enjoyable and I liked both Elijah and Penelope so that’s better than the last book. I don’t care for the Detective though. I hope she isn’t going to get her own book.

I'm always happy to read a story by Cynthia Eden. I often find them to be well-written with characters that make me laugh one minute and cry the next. She does a great job at giving us the best damn alpha heroes around. I just love them. They will do anything to keep safe the women they love.

Elijah is a great alpha hero. He's smart and strong and can keep you safe. He's really good at thinking like the bad guys and finding out who they are. You'll also like Penelope too. She's gone through something most people couldn't handle and came out the other end a little stronger.

I felt for Elijah. He loves Penelope and she just leaves him one day with no reason why. For a man that can figure out what a killer is thinking he had no clue what Penelope's reason for leaving.

I think this story has many layers to it. You first have the romance between Elijah and Penelope. They have so much between them that's not good but most of it would have been cleared up if all they did was talk. But what kind of story would it be if they talked and cleared stuff up at the beginning of the book instead of toward the end.

Yep, a quick one.

I would like to mention what she did was horrible. It could have caused so much trouble and she really betrayed him by doing it. You'll have to read it for yourself to know what it is. I forgave her because he did. I don't know if I'd be that nice.

You'll enjoy the plot of this one and I was also glad to see a certain cop from her other series in this one. There are many twists and turns but in the end, it all comes together nicely. They work out their issues and Elijah finally solves the mystery. As a whole, this is a wonderful story that I enjoyed very much. Of course, I'm not shocked because I usually always enjoy her books.

I will tell you that this one can be read as a standalone. There isn't much connection between it and Wilde Ways series. I will mention that if you haven't read the whole series I'll ask you this...why? I promise if you like sexy heroes and a good mystery you'll love it.

😅 I actually meant to read [Chase's book] next but thought it was this one so I was SLIGHTLY lost but it's nice each of these books CAN be read alone.

For this one... oof. OOF. The heroine - her past, and it's so interesting how ... well I thought it was really well written, that she was a victim of a horrific crime - a scary serial killer who was never caught - and/but she's moving on ... and/but also :X she fell in love with the FBI agent who rescued her ... but not BECAUSE of that...
[that was kinda almost the hardest sell for me/like she just SAYS it but ...]

Also the whole ~betrayal thing; I was confused/>.> although more of it is apparently once "all the things" are made clear.

However the OTHER thing is ... I suspected the baddie as soon as they were introduced. And then with the first time our main characters are at the police station I was like "THAT PERSON."
I didn't get ALL of what they did but ... I knew it was them.
Not sure if it's because I'm a very suspicious person by nature <.< or that I'd read a number of Cynthia Eden books in a row but ... I think it's 😬🙃 more the former; which is why I often go hard on RS then stop for a long time cuz way more often than not I guess the baddie from go.

I was slightly annoyed by the heroine all "I'M GOING TO HELP/SAVE YOU" like sure she got ... some "training" ... but also she's an event planner.

Also SO many rules broken. :X heh.
IDEK

So many suspects though! Of course I didn't guess all the moving pieces and parts. I liked this book well enough - not mad I read it ... but ...
it wouldn't be the first Wilde book I choose to re-read.

I think ... C - or C--? :X

Cynthia Eden grabs the reader’s attention from the very first page. And she does not let up on the action and suspense until the end of the book.

Before the story begins, Penelope is kidnapped and held captive by a serial killer. Fortunately, FBI Special Agent Elijah Cross manages to rescue her before her kidnapper was able to kill her.

Because of their unbelievable chemistry, Penelope and Elijah engage in an affair that includes lots of romance and some steamy, hot sex. Unfortunately, FBI agents are not allowed to fraternize with the people they rescue. Therefore, the couple, unhappily, breaks up.

Meanwhile, Penelope discovers that someone is harassing her. Besides constant hang-up calls, someone also seems to be sneaking into her home. He signals this to Penelope by moving things around. Penelope believes the person who is harassing is her is the same man who kidnapped. her. However, no one else believes her. Therefore, she turns to Elijah for help.

The rest of this story is filled with non-stop action. Penelope and Elijah constantly dodge bullets from a menacing, unknown assailant who is trying to kill them.

Dale Mayer keeps the reader on the edge of her seat as she skillfully combines suspense with the love/hate relationship between Penelope and Elijah

Another award winning, sizzling and suspense worthy novel by Cynthia Eden! Cross My Heart is the 14th book in the Wilde Ways series and had even more heart racing action and mind-boggling danger than ever before! Not to mention the addicting sensual romance that made this story so incredible, I wish it went on and on.

Elijah and Penelope have a past that is both rough and touching. Their attraction is still as hot as it was after Elijah first rescued Penelope. Maybe even more so because of how things first ended for them in the past. I really don't believe there are a lot of authors that can pull a reader in like Cynthia Eden does. And there certainly aren't many great romantic suspense authors out there like Miss Eden either. I am ALWAYS excited when I know a new book from Cynthia Eden is coming out because all her books are amazing and addicting and so sexy, I can barely think straight! Cross My Heart had incredible, jaw dropping and hide under the blankets danger that kept me on the EDGE of my seat the whole time I was reading. It was wonderful!

Cross My Heart gets a SINFULLY EXHILARATING FIVE SUSPENSEFUL STARS!

FBI Agent Elijah Cross saved Penelope Kostas from a serial killer, but the killer escaped. He knows the killer will not give up and becomes too close to her, risking “the edge” that makes him so successful at hunting killers. He thinks like them and knows what they will do next. When an action she takes causes trouble for him, he walks away from his career and takes a job with Wilde Security. As he continues searching for the “Flame”, someone is watching her and she hires Elijah for protection. The intimacy between them is hot as they try to find the killer before he strikes again. Elijah is now the target and someone else has become part of the game, but who and why? Surviving an attempt on his life brings the local police into the case and reveals his interest in a cold case group called the Ice Breakers. Will Elijah be able to keep Penelope safe and find the person who wants him dead? A thrilling ride from beginning to end with the amazing characters that you expect from this author! Penelope years later contacts Elijah to help her because the Flame is back the cops won't help they don't believe her he's the only man she can trust to help her.
I loved the journey Elijah & Penelope take you on working together their chemistry it sizzles the sparks fly can they get their HEA & prevent the serial killer Flame from escapeing again.
I definitely recommend to get this very interesting thrilling intense story you'll love the Wilde family the characters were so well developed you could get enough, I'm so looking forward to the next book.

Once again Cynthia has given me a book that had me up all night as I kept on saying one more chapter and at 3am i turned the last page She is one writer that always gives me characters to love even if I don't always understand their reasoning Yes Penelope I am talking about you

This is the story of Penelope Kostas and Elijah Cross he is the member of Wilde security though he is former FBI and it was while working a serial killer case that he met Penelope she was his last victim. Elijah has the ability to get inside the heads of mad men and knows how they think this is why he is so great at his job but he really has no idea about women He is surprised when he reconnects with Penelope as circumstances had driven them apart Now she needs his help to track the man that almost killed her Will they track him down and can they finally have the future together they both wanted You will have to read to see

You can’t help but admire and applaud a person especially a woman who refuses to be a victim. That is the premise of Cross My Heart (Wilde Ways #14) by Cynthia Eden. Boy, is this one explosive story as Penelope Kostas decides to go after the serial killer who had targeted her earlier. Elijah Cross, former FBI agent now working for Wilde Security Agency is the one person she can trust to help her.

I loved how the victim becomes the hunter in this story without losing her humanity or becoming like the one she is hunting. Elijah will do anything to protect Penelope but she is no shirking violet. Together they are a great team and a hot couple to boot. A twist or two in the story makes this even more of a page-turner than it usually is which is saying a lot.

4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cross My Heart is one of those books that has an ending that you didn't see coming. After being rescued by FBI agent Elijah from a serial killer, both of their lives were changed. Penelope moved hoping to escape the killer's clutches, but her new home is being broken into and she is scared. Elijah is still looking for the one that got away. He has been making himself a target so he can finally put the killer in jail. What neither of them know is that things are not what they seem. Not even close.

The two characters are realistic and have been through so much, both together and apart. Penelope is a very strong woman, being able to go back to her life after almost dying the way that she did. She refuses to be a victim and instead demands to help look for the man that changed her life. This book has a lot of twists and turns, and characters that have hot chemistry. Its a must read addition to the Wilde series.

Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review

Each time Cynthia Eden releases a Wilde Ways book, I can’t read it fast enough. This series of standalones is exactly what I want in a book. There is suspense, love, hurts, and of course the HEA. Penelope and Elijah were involved after he saved her from a serial killer. Things happened and Penelope walked away. They both were heartbroken by this act, and neither got over it. But that was not the end. Penelope is having issues, and she seeks out Elijah for help. What follows is a story filled with action, truths, emotions, and growth from both the hero and the heroine. I really enjoyed the relationship between these two, and loved that we got little snippets from past Wilde characters. You do not need to read these all together because they are extremely strong on their own, but you are truly missing out on a great series if you do not read them all. Cynthia Eden has a way with words, and it is what keeps me coming back.

Cross My Heart (Wilde Ways Book 14) by Cynthia Eden
Thank you Cynthia Eden - I love this series and I loved this book. Five stars is not enough for keeping me up all night reading this book. Elijah Cross (Former FBI agent) and Penelope Kostas (the last victim he saved). They are both strong H and h with their own baggage that they have to work through. The serial killer who targeted Penelope was never arrested and she feels he is still hunting her. There is so much suspense (kept me on edge the whole time), evil twisted minds, as well as friendships, some laughs, tears and plenty of steam to get us to a very HEA, I can't wait for her next book,
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Happily Ever After Easy-to-read Entertaining Haunting Page-turner Action-packed Steamy Scary Tear-jerker Unpredictable Romantic Witty Wonderful characters Twisted

What an explosive, intense read! I don't know how Ms. Eden does it, but with every new book she releases in this series, I find myself saying "this is my favorite" -- that is, until she releases another one. These Wilde employees are something else -- swoony, alpha, sweet and sexy -- I loved Elijah. And Penelope is my kind of heroine--she's been through hell and back and yet she's tough and strong and so brave, but her ability to defer to Elijah and let him protect her is what makes her his perfect partner and soulmate. Ms. Eden has a way of involving the secondary characters into the plot and making you wonder, "Will this character get his/her own book?" Let's hope! These books are a thrill ride that pack a punch and I can't wait for the next one! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

Another great read from Cynthia.

Elijah Cross saved Penelope Kostas from a serial killer. The killer was known in the press as Flame because he burned his female captives alive. When Elijah saved her he could have taken out "Flame" but made sure she was safe instead.

After being save Penelope seemed to be being stalked by Flame and Elijah would talk to her in the middle of the night and stay with her. They eventually became involved. She broke his trust by hacking into his FBI computer files. This got him suspended and she left him. He quit the FBI the next day.

Fast forward a year and the two "accidentally" meet up on a beach in Florida. Seems Flame is after her again and she wants to hire Elijah, who currently works for Wild" to keep her safe.

Right from the start the stalker/killer seems to be after her and Elijah.

Great read!

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Cross My Heart through Netgalley . I really enjoyed reading this story . Elijah Cross rescued Penelope Kostas from a killer when he was an FBI Agent . They had a forbidden relationship till she left . He left the bureau . He now works for Wilde Security . Penelope believes the killer is stalking her but no one believes her . The killer is leaving no evidence . Penelope asks Elijah for his help . Elijah cannot refuse Penelope anything . Soon the killer is no longer hiding . As the danger mounts so does their feelings and chemistry . They must catch the killer before it's to late . This story is Suspenseful, hot and sexy and definitely keeps your attention . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

I absolutely love the twisted plots in Cynthia Eden’s romantic suspense books.

A year ago Penelope Kostas was kidnapped and barely survived when she was pulled from a burning building. Now, it seems she is being stalked again, and she’s fairly certain her kidnapper is back to finish the job he failed at before.

Once the best behavioral analyst the FBI ever had, Elijah Cross was forced out after his personal actions with a victim crossed the line. Devastated after Penelope left him, Elijah now works for Wilde Elite Protection and Security Firm in Florida.

Penelope and Elijah have unfinished business, and it isn’t just personal, because Penelope is convinced a mad man is back for revenge, but Elijah isn’t so sure she’s the one in danger.

Four and a half stars

Cynthia Eden brings her trademark balance of heated passion and adrenaline fueled action in Cross My Heart, part of her Wilde Ways series.

Former FBI agent Elijah Cross hasn’t stopped keeping an eye on Penelope Kostas. And despite their year long separation and how they’d parted, he hasn’t stopped loving her either. But a killer is toying with both of them, and that tends to put a damper on things.

Cynthia Eden’s characters are hot and emotional and larger than life. This page-turning read won’t let you put it down!

Cross my heart is the 14th book in the Wilde Ways series but you can read it as a stand-alone.
Like all books by Cynthia Eden I couldn’t put it down! Suspenseful plot and hot romance 🔥
Elijah and Penelope have a history together, FBI agent Elijha saved Penelope from a serial killer but the killer escaped…
Now Elijah will do everything to protect Penelope.
A real page turner!
Suspenseful, twists and turns and unpredictable!
A great addition to the series!
Highly recommended!
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.

4 Cross Stars

Overall Opinion

Cross My Heart By Cynthia Eden
this was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it, it was an absolute page turner and kept me on edge trying to find out who the 'bad guy' was.

I didn't like the h that much, she went through something really traumatic but the way she acted as if everything was about her really got to me in the flashbacks. And she never really trusted the H, to keep her safe and find out who tried to hurt her.

The chemistry between them though was really amazing.

Finding out who was trying to hurt her, was a bit predictable IMO🙈

Good book

This book is pretty good. It took me a bit longer than usual to get into it though. But I think it may be because I’m not a fan of the MC’s already having hooked up and are then back into each other’s lives after some time apart. It took me longer to warm up to Elijah & Penelope. But the book started getting interesting about the 40% mark when they started their physical relationship again and the mystery started developing.
I like how intelligent Elijah is and how great he is at profiling. The leads that he was following intrigued me and had me guessing.

I loved this book and was absorbed from page one. Elijah fell hard for Penelope but she hurts him by leaving. Loved their chemistry. Loved not knowing who his suspects were. Is Penelope in danger? Loved how he had Wilde agents watching her, but is someone else watching her? Loved how shocked I was by a certain obsession I didn’t see coming. Loved their happy ever after. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.

I don't know how but Cynthia Eden always manages to bring something new to the story. I won't say that the ending was totally unpredictable but there was still so much freshness to the story despite it being the 14th book in the series. You still get invested in the characters and their stories. I loved the story-telling and the characters in this book. It's got me really excited for her brand new series!! Really looking forward to reading the Ice breaker series...
