Harlan Young knows that from personal experience. Walking away from Grace Townsend, even with the best intentions and no other choice, still haunts him to this day.
So when he had the chance to return to Montana, and be part of something as special as the Resting Warrior Ranch , he took it. Here he can help train service and emotional support animals for former soldiers with PTSD.
And maybe, just maybe , convince Grace to give him a second chance.
He never expected that second chance to be in the form of a fake marriage in order to save the land she loves so much. But he’ll do it, as well as help fight the danger closing in on her. She thinks she’s alone, but she’s wrong.
She knew him as a boy, but now he's a man. And real men don’t run.
What is the point of this resting warrior ranch set up when so far none of the books involve any work done on this ranch? It’s a great concept, but I’d actually like to see one of the stories involve what work these men actually do at the ranch. This was book two in the series and less than 1% of the book even took place on this ranch. Anyway setting that aside, this book was sometimes enjoyable but the sheer unbelievable nature of both premise, the denouement or pivotal turning point in the plot, were too problematic for me to really enjoy the story. The premise: a woman may lose the ranch she shared with her deceased husband because she cannot find documents supporting both her marriage, the deed to the land and his will. So she searches her house to no avail.... maybe I might have believed this premise in 1880 but in 2022 all of these documents have been filed either with the state or the city and copies can easily be obtained. As for the will, the lawyer would have the hard copies at their office. I hate it when the author relies on the naivety of their readers instead of building a plausible premise for their book. The denouement: after being harassed and threatened for months by her neighbour, to the point that forces the hero to move into her home and live with her, never leaving her by herself, the heroine finds she is ‘too antsy’ to sit and wait for the hero to go with her to meet the surveyor for the abandoned mine on her property, so she goes by herself..... All this time she is keeping herself safe by carrying a shot gun and having a former seal stay in her house with her, she decides to throw caution to the wind at the last possible moment - when they have said repeatedly that her harasser will strike as his timeline is running out- at this point she’s just going to go unarmed to an abandoned mine that her neighbour and harasser is trying to steal from her....how do you think this works out for her? My god! I’ve seen Scoobie Doo episodes that were more believable. Why do authors do this? This is old 1980s horror film bad. Does the precipice of a story have to depend on the stupidity of a main character? I just felt that so much pivotal information and plot devices in this book were not clever or well thought out. And though there were moments when I enjoyed the story, I can’t rate this book any higher due to idiocy.
With this one we get to see what was up with Grace and Harlan. We knew they had a past, but both of them seemed to be hiding it. When the story came out of what happened my heart broke for them. I hated the choice that Harlan felt he had to make and hated more knowing that Grace grew up around what she did. I think by Harlan sharing what happened, it made it able for them to start new, a good thing too as they were oddly married.
I liked that Grace let Harlan help her with her problem. Sure they came up with an unusual stop measure at first, but it worked. I liked how it gave them enough time to get to know each other again, to figure out what was going on and come up with a plan.
The drama at the end was very crazy! I was worried our couple wouldn't make it through and it close. It's a good thing that the guys at the ranch jumped into help Harlan and wouldn't stop until they found them both.
I loved how this one ended, loved the future that Harlan and Grace face and that they can do it without anything bad hanging over their heads.
I really like this series. The writing is very good. It has everything... Beautiful covers, dual POV, romance, suspense, angst, chemistry, friendships, drama, second chances, ex-soldiers, new opportunities, Montana's landscapes, ranches... The next book is about Cori and Grant, but I really can't wait for Lena and Jude's story.
Similar to the first, we have a hero and heroine who constantly get outsmarted by the bad guy, a hero who doesn’t protect the heroine like he says he will, and a heroine who vastly overestimates her ability to function as an adult and underestimates her level of cluelessness. She keeps saying she can take care of herself when it’s patently clear she cannot. We have no idea what she did with herself for 10 years while her husband kept her out of ranch business, but it appears to be nothing. And she sticks her head in the sand at the first sign of trouble and refuses help she knows she needs. One of my pet peeves is naive heroines who are more jerks than tough/spunky. Note to authors: they are not the same.
And don’t get me started on the plot/storyline holes. But one of the most obvious is when Harlan is trying to get them out of the cave. Newsflash: methane is highly flammable. If the levels were as high as indicated, just the flame on the device would have caused an explosion…but add that Harlan is going after an iron chain with a pick hammer…which creates sparks…yeah…
And the missing documents…did it not dawn on anyone to go to the state/county records office for the marriage license copy or maybe the lawyer they worked with on the will? I get the need for certain plot devices to make the story work, but they shouldn’t be so impractical or make the lead characters look dumb.
Fantastic second chance story and incredible suspense. I started reading last night and kept going until I was finished - way too late AGAIN! I simply could not stop reading. We met Harlan and Grace in Montana Sanctuary, and even then, it was obvious there was something between them; there were so many sparks flying. In this book, we discover why Grace is so rude to Harlan and why he takes it without protest.
Harlan and Grace knew each other in high school and had plans to elope after graduation, getting Grace away from her abusive father. Then one day, Harlan was gone without a word, leaving Grace alone, devastated, and angry. Ten years later, Harlan returned to Montana with his SEAL buddies to start the Resting Warrior Ranch and found Grace married to another man. When her husband dies in an accident, Harlan hopes for a second chance.
Grace is struggling to hang on to her ranch. The documents she needs to prove her right to it are missing, and the state is threatening to take the land. Her creepy neighbor pressures her to sell him the ranch and gets belligerent when she refuses. As the deadline draws near, Grace doesn't know what to do.
Harlan can tell something is eating at Grace and won't give up until he finds out what it is. Despite their animosity, when there is a break-in at her house, Harlan is the first one she calls. Harlan's protective instincts are further aroused when he finds out an archaic law may keep Grace from hanging on to her ranch. So, he offers to marry her to give her the time she needs to find her paperwork.
I loved watching the rekindling of the relationship between Harlan and Grace. Harlan never stopped loving her despite how he walked away. Grace spent many years nursing her anger toward Harlan and convincing herself that she hated him. But there was no denying the way he made her feel. I felt like it wasn't too much of a struggle for her to accept his help. It also gave them a chance to put the past to rest. The story of why Harlan left the way he did broke my heart for both of them. It also opened the opportunity to start again, and I loved seeing them get to know each other as adults. They grew closer as they worked together to discover why her neighbor was so determined to gain control of her ranch.
The story's suspense was complex and kept me glued to the pages as I puzzled out the clues along with Harlan and Grace. Her neighbor, Wayne Gleason, appeared to be pulling every dirty trick in the book to force Grace to sell. The harder he pushed, the more curious Grace and Harlan were about what was driving him. As they closed in on the truth, the intensity of the attacks increased. I did not expect what they found, as my mind was leaning in another direction, and I loved the surprise of it. I liked the plans that Harlan and Grace made to trap Wayne, but they didn't realize that there was another player. I wanted to yell at Grace when she decided to go off on her own. My heart beat double-time when it went wrong, and I felt Harlan's fear when he realized what had happened. Wayne's evil was palpable as he carried out his plan, and things looked really bad when he put the second part in motion. I wasn't sure how Harlan and Grace would get out of trouble, but one can never count out his brothers-in-arms. The capper was Harlan catching up to Wayne, which made me very happy. I loved the ending and seeing Grace and Harlan's love stronger than ever.
I loved seeing more of Lucas and Evelyn from Montana Sanctuary and that they are moving forward from the trauma of that book. I especially loved the realism of the lingering effects of what happened. I also liked getting to know a little more about the other Warriors. The bonds of their brotherhood are strong, and I like how they watch out for each other. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
It’s not bad but… it’s really Sad when a man leaves you and you’re so hurt that for 10 years you don’t live, No sex, no joy no painting… so sad I don’t get it why this is romantic for so many authors and readers, for me is just extremely dad and unreal, at least, here in Spain Anyway, of course, she is celibate for 10 freaking years and H never talk about that so… do your guess We know they met each other again two years ago but the heroine didn’t make it easy on him… Good suspense plot and sex scenes but I was not really invested in the couple, you can feel as H felt sorry and pity for her for all the pain he caused, I really hate that in romance books
Fake marriage No OM/ OW drama Second chance Heroine married to OM, he is dead now and they didn’t love each other

Grace and Harlan's second chance romance hit hard with plenty of powerful feels and deep emotions. I liked these two and enjoyed witnessing them work through their baggage, heartache, pain, regrets, anger and turmoil. I thought they made a great couple, and I quickly found myself fiercely invested in them. The writing here is excellent, and the storyline flows smoothly and reads easily. Along with the moving romance, you also get heaping helpings of suspense, drama, action, tension and twists that will have you eager to keep those pages turning. All in all, a very enjoyable book and another solid entry in a series that always leaves me anxiously awaiting the next couple's story. This is my freely posted frank review.
MONTANA DANGER is the second instalment in the contemporary ,adult RESTING WARRIOR RANCH erotic, romantic suspense series co-authored by Josie Jade and Janie Crouch. This is former US Navy SEAL and co-owner of Resting Warrior Ranch Harlan Young, and rancher/widow Grace Townsend. MONTANA DANGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Harlan and Grace) MONTANA DANGER follows the second chance relationship between thirty something former US Navy SEAL Harlan Young, and rancher Grace Townsend. A little over ten years earlier Harlan Young broke Grace Townsends heart, and in the ensuing years Grace struggled to forgive the man she once loved. Fast forward to present day wherein Harlan Young, co-owner of the Resting Warrior Ranch finds himself face to face with the woman he destroyed, a woman whose ranch has been targeted by the neighbor next door. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Harlan and Grace, and the potential fall-out as greed and vengeance threaten the lives of our story line couple.
Ten years earlier, to protect her life, Harlan Young walked away from the woman he loved, a woman who came to despise the man who broke her heart. In an effort to move on from a dark and dangerous life, Grace married a man she did not love but a man who protected our heroine until the day he died. With the return of Harlan Young, Grace battled between head and heart but threats against Grace, and the ranch that she loved, forced Harlan to become guardian and protector of our story line heroine.
The relationship between Harlan and Grace is one of second chances; a rekindling romance wherein Harlan reveals the truth about what happened years before, a truth that forces Grace to relive the moments that almost destroyed her life. Grace had struggled to forgive the man that broke her heart until the truth acknowledges the painful reality. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, we are re-introduced to Harlan’ s business partners and former US Navy SEALS: Liam, Lucas & Evelyn (Montana Ranch 1), Jude, Grant, Noah and Daniel, Deja Brew cafe owner Lena, and police chief Charlie Garcia. The requisite evil has many faces.
MONTANA DANGER is a story of greed and obsession, power and control, forgiveness and love, acceptance and happily ever after. The fast paced premise is edgy and gripping; the characters are spirited, energetic and determined; the romance is seductive and sensual.
Every single target that the first book managed to hit for me, this one missed... completely.
This irritated me from beginning to end... gawd only knows why I didn't DNF it. I think that I was hoping for a turnaround. It didn't happen.
Liked the set-up.
But... but... I have issues with several things...
Why, if she had such a shitty home life, didn't she just leave?
And on that same point... why didn't she and Harlan just leave together?
Why did it take so many years for the 'truth' to come out... when they had patently been in each other's circles for years?
Why are the villains always way more capable than the leads?
How on earth was the villain able to get away with his behaviour? Oh... see sentence above... silly me!
Why did Harlan keep leaving her alone when he knew that she was in danger and he promised to be there for her? Don't get me wrong, I would've preferred it if she had taken her rifle and sat on her porch and waited for the arsehole... villain not Harlan... 😉
Why did she do what she did? That also really pissed me off.
Why did Harlan keep going on about being a SEAL ( internally if not vocally ) when that never seemed to help him?
How did the whole Charles thing actually come about? And what did Charlie know about it? And, he alluded to this, if he was supposed to look out for her... why didn't he? And why on earth name characters Charles and Charlie... madness, I tells ya!
And then... it ended. Little pointless epilogue.
Thankfully, I checked many reviews for book 3 before I was going to read it.... considering how irritated I am by this... I am grateful not to start book 3, don't think my blood pressure could handle it.
Lastly... I have no idea why... but Daniel really really really really... and it is worth saying once more... really annoyed me... deeply.
This new series is just killing it. Grace is trying to learn to live again after the death of her husband. She’s also trying to keep his ranch alive and out of the hands of her greedy neighbor.
Harlan Young was strong and rugged and rough around the edges. And everything that I felt guilty for wanting.
“Losing you broke me. Do you understand that? I realize it was for a good reason, but that doesn’t mean the pain didn’t happen and that all my pieces are magically glued back together.”
Harlan has been back in Montana for a while. He left her to save her now he wants her back.
For the first time in years, I hadn’t woken to fear or panic or nightmares. I simply…woke up. Came to consciousness knowing that she was here and she was with me. Safe.
This is a second chance at love with danger around every corner. This is the second book in this series and just as good if not better than the first. These Wounded Warriors are to die for.
What a good book!!! Resting Warrior Ranch is a ranch yes but let's be honest those warrior are not resting a lot. Harlan is suffering like all the warriors at the ranch... his guilt run deep and is not linked to the field only. When he is sees his first and only love suffering he can't stay aside even if she reject him he want to be there for her. I loved how he was respectful of Grace's needs , he is a protector but he does not undermine her self estime either. He is also loyal towards his " brothers"
Grace...she is full of anger because she felt deeply hurt . She is focusing on her pain and quite rude toward Harlan no matter how polite he is. She lost her husband, in name, not too lon ago and that and Harlan return are a lot for Grace especially when her ranch is suddenly in danger and she could be homeless in matter of days. However no matter how dire the situation is Grace refuse to ask for help it's only because Harlan knows her so well that he see what she is hiding and she can be glad he did.
Lot of action, tension and great characters this is a wonderful romance suspence! to recommend and can be read as stand alone.
3.5 stars Montana Danger is the 2nd book in the authors’ 8 book Resting Warriors Ranch Series. It has plenty in common with the first book Montana Sanctury beyond its simple self-explanatory two-word title. The series is built around a group of former Navy SEALs whom together purchased a large piece of ranch land in Montana near the small town of Garnett Bend, and opened up a place to rehabilitate and train injured animals to become service animals for people whom like themselves suffer from PTSD. Like the first book our female protagonist Grace is being terrorized by a narcissistic psychopath. And like in the first book one of the former SEALS, in this book “Spoiler Alert” Harlan Young, promises Grace he'll protect her and not allow anything to happen to her. Unfortunately just like the first book with Lucas, he’s unable to keep that promise. But just as Lucas with the help of the rest of his band of brothers saved his now fiancée Evelynn before her stalker Nathan was able to finish the job, Harlan also manages to save Grace. The major difference between the two stories is in the romance. In Montana Sanctuary Evelynn, fleeing from her ex-fiancée is an unknown when she arrives at Resting Warrior Ranch looking for work and finds Lucas. Montana Danger is a second chance at love trope between Harlan and Grace whom we met in the first book. It was obvious in that book that they had a history and that as much as Harlan still longed for Grace, Grace was furious with him and never had a kind word for him. As our story opens Grace after ten years of marriage is now a widow of six months after her much older husband Charles died in a car crash. We learn that theirs was a marriage of convenience. At least for Grace. Grace had a drug addicted abusive father. She and Harlan had been high school sweethearts and lovers. After graduation and a night of passionate love making Harlan disappeared from Grace’s life without a word to her living her shattered. Charles married Grace to protect her from her father. It’s never really explained exactly why, but theirs was a totally platonic, sexless relationship. It would have been nice if the authors had given us some hint as to why. Was Charles gay? Was he impotent? At any rate all we know is the only times Grace had ever had sex it was with Harlan. So neither Grace nor Charles had been getting any for a decade. Grace receives a letter from the state telling her that she must appear in court in two days to prove she has a right to live on the ranch that had been in her husband’s family for generations. Grace knows her neighbor Wayne covets her ranch and suspects he’s behind the short notice court summons. Unfortunately, Grace can’t find any legal documentation to prove she and Charles were married or that he left the ranch to her. For me this was perhaps the weakest part in this story’s plot. I don’t know how they do things in Montana but here in N.Y. and I suspect in most states, legal documents like marriage licenses, wills and land deeds are recorded someplace like the County Clerks office so that there is a legal record and if needed a place to go and get a copy. But that’s the authors’ and by-proxy Grace’s story and they’re sticking to it. So Grace shows up in front of the judge with what little documentation she has. The sympathetic judge is willing to give her more time to find the necessary documentation. But then Wayne shows up citing an archaic law unique to Garnett Bend that says an unmarried woman or widow is not legally allowed to own property. So the judge only gives Grace one week to find the documents. Which is another problem with this plot. Because even if Grace can prove she was married to Charles and he deeded the ranch to her, it doesn’t solve the problem that she’d still be a widow and in violation of the statute. Harlan who had managed to melt some of Grace’s ice by staying at her house when she became fearful Wayne was up to no good, suggests they fly to Las Vegas for a quicky marriage in name only. That should at least buy Grace some more time to look for the needed documentation. Harlan also tells Grace he never wanted to leave her but he did it to save her life without further explanation. That doesn’t come until much later in their story. They get married but spend their wedding night in separate hotel rooms. They fly back to Garnett Bend and appear in court with their marriage license much to the displeasure of Wayne. Now the judge agrees to give Grace 30 days to find proof that she is the rightful owner of Round Ruby Ranch. Harlan continues to live with Grace sleeping on her couch. So if you’re keeping count this is the second sexless marriage for Grace. But you know that’s not going to last. Harlan finally reveal the reason he left Grace without a word which allows her to feel the love she’d always felt for Harlan but had been denying covering it up with her anger and hurt over him abandoning her. So while they haven’t found the necessary documentation and Wayne is becoming more aggressive in his moves to take the ranch, Grace and Harlan find time to make up for all the lost time they’d been apart for the past ten years.
Grace eventually falls into the hands of Wayne. Harlan and company perform a dramatic just in time rescue. Then they find Wayne and bring him to justice. Harlan and Grace share lots of “I love yous” and the story closes with Lena planning a second wedding for the couple to share their joy with all their friends.
That's it - I'm moving to Montana and finding myself a SEAL/rancher and riding off into HEA.
I've said it a few times now but I'm a sucker for second chances. And to say that Harlan and Grace deserved it is such an understatement. They've lost so much time due to bad people in their lives and now when there's a chance for him to help her and maybe clear the air, Harlan is taking his chance. The danger surrounding Grace is very real and it would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. I loved the emotional connection that was there despite her doing her absolute best to deny it. But when they realized just how deep their feelings were it was almost too late.
I'm a Huge fan of Janie Crouch and have been now for a few years but Josie Jade is slowly entering the same stage and I'm here for it.
Another great chapter with Harlan and Grace. We saw a few sparks fly in the first book, and you don't need to read that for this book, but it does give background on the overall new series. Grace has been let down before and she's not willing to open up again to ask for help. She does need it though, and it she finally says something and now Harlan is all in, he was already, but he's ready to show her. There are secrets that are revealed and they are heartbreaking. I loved that he was on a "mission" now to prove his love. It got very intense very fast and the ability of the Resting Warrior guys coming together was spectacular. It was a great relief on how the story came all together. I loved it. Definitely recommend.
This was a huge miss. From the start, the story was ridiculous. Grace is in danger of losing her ranch after her husband passes due to an antiquated law saying a single woman can’t own property (ok fine, that’s reasonable) so that necessitates the marriage of convenience. However all that is brought on because she can’t find her marriage certificate or her husbands will. 🙄Um. Yeah. What?
Harlan and Grace’s second chance romance was so uneventful, so the main focus was the “suspense” plot, but I use that loosely because it was really not surprising or suspenseful. It was predictable from the start and the villain was so silly and OTT. 🙄
I’ll give the next book a try but won’t hesitate to DnF if it doesn’t start out promising
Grace and Harlan reconnect after a hurtful action years ago.
She’s stubborn, grieving and in need of help. Harlan offer is reluctant, but she accepts. The evil neighbor deserves to be shut down.
We get his tricks and damage, as he plots to take her farm, but she’s not willing to allow it, she’ll fight. Harlan is at her side as well as the men from he Resting Warriors Ranch.
The lost love is rekindled.
We get lots of action, the treachery revealed, and the plan is in place. All does not go smoothly.
4 stars with major qualifiers that you have to suspend significant belief in how the legal system and banking actually works, as the entire plot hinges upon legal documents that would be properly filed with the appropriate governing body (so even if they lost the originals, they can still be gotten) and upon the assumption that readers have no idea how actual safe deposit boxes work. If you can overlook those glaring errors of reality, the story itself is a lot of fun and a solid second chance romance/marriage of convenience, both of which are personal favorite tropes.
So this book will take you by surprise. For most of the 60% you'll be wondering where the suspense is as you catch glimpses of it, and then BOOM. A lot of this book I wasn't expecting in the slightest, so much pain tore through the pages, will they be able to work through it all, while working on the current problem, and survive it all? Definitely recommend that you one click to find out. Leaving my review here as talking anymore about characters or plot will give major things away.
Montana Danger book 2 of the Resting Warrior Ranch series by Josie Jade and Janie Crouch will blow you away! This book has some unexpected twists and turns, I love it. Harlan Young and Grace Townsend have a history together, but Harlan walked away and is trying to get Grace back. This story is off the charts good. I give this book 5 stars.
What an exciting, terrorizing, heart racing, steamy, 2nd chance mystery filled with all kinds of surprises, murder and mayhem and more twists and turns that have Harlan and Grace fighting to win another chance at a love of a lifetime. Grab this page turning, spine tingling romance and enjoy the ride. ❤🔥❤🔥❤
This book was non stop action from beginning to end. Harlan and Grace’s story grabs you from the first page and keeps you enthralled to the very end. From a huge misunderstanding when they were younger to enemies to finally lovers it makes for a wonderful read how they eventually get to their HEA.
I fell in love with the first book in this series and was so excited to read this one and YESSSS another 5 star !!! So so good !!! Love Grace and Harlen . I can not wait for the next book in the series ! 100000% recommend this book !
The h saved herself for the H. Why can’t the H ever do that? How can it mean anything if the H is screwing other women when he has only ever loved the h? And, it doesn’t even occur to him to feel bad. NOT romantic.
I kept this book for last because the story line didn't appeal to me as much as the others, and well the second chance trope is not really my favorite. I still enjoyed it! Just not as much as I did the others :)
Harlan and Grace. They were in love and planning to run away together as high school sweet hearts. But, for reasons we find out in the book, he is forced to leave her and join the Navy SEALs. He is back home, and he still loves her.
I am really enjoying the quaintness of a small town romance with added danger. Grace and Harlan sure did deserve their HEA after all the misunderstandings and pain.
Grace and Harlan’s story was one that I wasn’t sure about in the beginning. I felt that there were things very much brushed over when it came to their relationship and how their shared past changed their lives.
Those issues aside, I love this world that these authors have created. The thriller aspects continue to be so well executed. Those moments of danger and high octane leave me breathless.
I enjoyed the story but there were obvious plot holes that I found distracting. Why didn’t he marry her back in the day and then enlist? Why didn’t she request a copy of the marriage certificate from the registrar? Simple resolutions were ignored for the sake of the conflict and it was bothersome.
