Lover Man published in 2009 Part V: My synopsis
Wow they are all back!!
~Mildred now known as Karma. Mildred went away to a resort in Seductin. She lost weight at the bootcamp where Chevy found a new job on the island of Barbados. Just so happen that Tony the man who broke her heart was now residing with the money he got away with. Well Karma definitely paid him back in FULL as he did not recognize who she had now become. Well after that in Lover Man Karma returned to New York after her fling expired in Europe. She then comes in contact with another man by the name of C.J. who seems to control her every sense. This has an unusual twist.
~Geneva and Deeka are growing closer and they adore each other...Deeka has a surprise for his lovely lady Geneva only if she would stop being to suspicious :)
~Chevy returned home to her roots to find the good in her that we all know is there, then got a stint in Barbados when Geneva called her on behalf of her friend then Mildred now Karma. Chevy and Mildred bond during and create a friendship.
~Noah finds out that he has a daughter with the fling has had earlier on in Groove. Come to find out God does work in mysterious ways. Noah and his lover embrace their now daughter as the mother has been diagnosed with a disease that would not allow her to raise their daughter. Noah, his partner and their daughter live in London.
~Crystal has returned to New York from Antigua with a man by the name of Claude Justine. He has swooned her into believing many things and she has gladly embraced his lifestyle while not having to work. She is raising her daughter and his. However his neighbor seems to know alot more about this CJ or Claude Justine....

When she meets Claude Justine, a handsome, wealthy, widowed man from the states. They share a long distance courtship, although it is short, they soon realize they can not be without one another. Crystal decides to take a chance on love and finally leaves Antigua and moves to New Jersey where she moves into his mansion. Claude Justine seems to be just a little too good to be true. How well does Crystal really know this man?
Karma Jackson is back in New York, where she secures a position as an assistant to the president of a hedge fund. There she meets an irresistible yet cocky man. She is not sure whether to be angry or turned on by him.
Geneva is now living in Brooklyn and listens attentively to both women as they share their individual stories. Unfortunately she fails to make a connection…secrets will be revealed and it is unlike any you could ever imagine.
LOVER MAN by Geneva Holliday was an excellent read. I love all her novels. The characters will make you laugh and cry. This series is one of those books that you will get attached to the characters. Like old friends coming back to visit, with each new book that drops. Geneva Holliday is a phenomenal author.

I read this book in one sitting, it was so good I couldn't put it down. I don't have words to describe Claude (CJ) Justine. Everytime I think of calling him a sleezy, slimey, cheating dog, the words don't to seem to adequately describe him. To say he was sick is an understatement. He was definitely a character you will love to hate.
It was great to re-visit the characters from the previous books (Noah, Zahn, Geneva,Crystal and Mildred (Karma) Johnson) but I'm ready for Crystal to find a good man. First there was Neville (the male prostitute) and now Claude the louse. Can a sister get a break? I guess it goes to show that you need to be careful of that oh so perfect package. The successful guy who appears to have it all, says all the right things, but who is a little too mysterious. He has a story and he may not be as good as he looks.
I really hope Ms. McFaddin is working on a follow up story. I have so many questions!! Like: Who is Karma pregnant by? What happens when Claude resurfaces in the States?, Will Crystal ever find a good guy? Will Geneva ever get the chance to confront Karma? and last whatever happened to Chevy?
Chevy was mentioned but she never made an appearance. This is truly a page turner that will not disappoint.

It had a beginning, middle, and end. That's how cut and dry it was. I was somewhat disappointed, but on the other hand, I did not have high expectations for the book. In comparing it with the other books by this author, (and I'm cringing as I type this) this was the worst book yet. And for the author to even insert, towards the end of the book, for THIS book to be selected as one of the books for Oprah's book club was laughable. I don't mean to be harsh, because I really do like this author, I just don't like the book.

There are times when you want to sit in people's living rooms and fast(be noisy) in their business. What does their love life and everything that goes with it look like? Geneva Holliday (aka Bernice McFadden) is a master storyteller who gives voices to characters who are highly dramatic, living their lives out to the fullest. The erotic moments and happy ending with a scoundrel getting his come-up-pence, makes every moment spent reading, a Holliday!

July 29, 2011Just finished this last night and it was a quick fun read. I wished Karma wasn't such a coward, but otherwise the story turned out good- now we have to wait to see who the baby daddy is;)!! Claude got off too flipping easy, with his "CJ is a playa's name". Wished they had gotten hold of him. Once again it was fun, and I loved Shelly- she was crazy funny.
